Finally! In this very 1st entry, I would like to welcome all my dearest readers – be it new readers, occasional readers and also the loyal readers who have been with me since 2005. Thank you all for reading, following my humble blog and watching my growth throughout the years.
Now and then
(is the header that you see different from the one in the picture above?
Hint : Refresh this page again!)
In fact, substantial plans of shifting to this new domain has been lying dormant in my mind for about a year. For personal reasons I will not elaborate (though I reckon long-time readers would already know), I have made up my mind to officially launch thejessicat.com in 2010.
The old will always have to make way for new ones!
And after many months of setting up this site, configuring and basically getting everything done gradually from the beginning, I'm glad I managed to keep to my word of launching this right here right now 🙂 As promised! New blog domain but fear not, I'm the same ol' me. That girl who you've been reading all this while? Yup, she's still here
Ohhhhhhmm
Congratulations, you've just achieved the red nirvana
But then again, I wouldn't have been able to do it all by myself, if it wasn't thanks to my awesomest webmaster Spinzer and designer FongMei who never failed to help me out so much along the way. Much gratitude and appreciation goes to them! Putting up with my crazy demands and specifications, kudos!
*big hugs & kisses*
We did it!
😀
p/s Actually it's only 90% done. Beta stage yo! 🙂 We ain't done with some of the sidebar content yet, and the 'About Me' page is also 90% done. So come back tomorrow! Then it'll be 100% done by then. woots! Can't wait already! *Squeee*
Meanwhile, CHANGE YOUR LINKS! You can now re-link me as
High Definition at the comfort of your home. I’d never imagine that will happen! Now, we hear so much yabber-jabber on HD videos and even HD contact lenses (!) but now.. watching your favorite channels in High Definition on Astro, Cable TV just got better.
Thanks to Nuffnang who invited me for this evening’s launch, I made my way to Modestos along with many other familiar faces. We were among the 1st 150+ people who had the privilege to watch the Astro Byond HD commercial. It was phenomenal! 🙂
All the guests were asked to sign and write their New Year Resolutions
Okay, Imma share with you the full commercial of the newly launched Astro Byond in High Definition! Do watch it.. it’s so ingenious and very well done 🙂
Greeted by the emcee, he shared with us what the Astro B.yond had in stall for its subscribers
Given a warm welcome by the Mix.FM radio announcer!
Among the channels available in HD are these 5, Astro Supersport, ESPN, HBO, National Geographic and The History Channel. Not bad for a start! They will be adding more channels in HD, who knows? Our kids of kids would prolly watch Disney Channel in HD as well.
There was something which caught our attention though.
It was pretty fun as all of us were observing the set-up of the crime scene, wondering what part it will play as the evening ensued. Lotsa people started to climb in and sat on the armchair, totally disregarding the yellow signage of ‘CRIME SCENE : DO NOT ENTER’
Loots like someone has been murdered!
In the end, we found out that it was the crime scene we had to investigate in the game. Soon enough, many groups of 5 were formed and we were all ready to solve the mystery!
I didn’t know that many people wanted to be their very own private eye OR do we just want to win the Astro B.yond? 😛
We were given magnifiying glasses and asked to roam about in Modestos/Supperclub/Rain in search for the clues as to WHO could possibly be the murderer of the crime.
We discovered the very fine print of clues hidden within the photo
Amongst the clues
I remembered were that the culprit was at the exact place where we were, wore red, had a band-aid and I can’t recall what else. But the last clue was almost impossible to find! It was supposedly under a chair/table and gawd knows how many of them they were in this club-cum-restaurant!
My team mates and I We searched like crazy too and I hope we won’t be mistaken as perverts for looking under people’s chairs!
But unfortunately, we guessed the murderer incorrectly. *bursts into tears* Gone was our chance of winning the Astro B.yond HD subscription! But cheers to the other group who won! They were then supposed to compete AGAINST each other to win the grand prize, a 32” LG High Definition TV, Astro B.yond box, new remote control and new outdoor dish along with free subscription to Astro B.yond channels.
And who emerged victorious? Okay.. suspense a bit bit
Throughout our buffet dinner, we were entertained by a mind-blowing performance by some Drumcorp KL. They were amazing, making a very harmonious cacophony of drums and other percussion instruments! But sorry! No piccies of them as I was busy omnomnom-ing the buffet with Vivien and Joshua at our table.
There was awesome woodfire-oven baked pizza, eggplant with something which I can’t recognize but tastes awessum-possum, fresh mushrooms and other delicacies. Including pastries too! 🙂 Camwhore time with the rest – woots!
Like I promised, here’s the winner! He’s Eric Yong who answered most of the corrections correctly about Astro B.yond HD. Congratulations! Hope you become a couch potato watching your sports matches and movies on High Definition. hahahaha kidding! 🙂
One thing I know, I definitely have to return to Modestos for the food and ambience. The after party of this event was fabulous! Lotsa people stayed even waaaay till the end even when some others have adjourned.
Let’s partay!
Hmmm.. just a thought. The 2 people on the left side look like they’re totally making out. Are they? 🙂 hmmmm.. Sorry, I couldn’t paparazzi-video it on high definition 😛
Amongst hordes of emails we people have to reply everyday, one particular friendly-introduction-turned-plight caught my attention. You know how similarly in an entry where I blogged about a moron who wanted to befriend and impress me (as well as a few of my other friends) by sending me a pathetic message on Facebook?
But this time, it’s slightly different. It’s an email from a girl residing all the way in Liberia, West Africa. Apparently a victim of war and wants to escape yet has access to the internet to contact me all the way here in Malaysia.
Oh, how tragic. *rolls eyes* Let’s hold hands and have a moment of silence.
Funny how she wants to ‘get to know me if I have the desire for her’ and will ‘send me her picture’ after I reply… for crying out loud! The atrocious photograph above was what she attached in her 2nd email by the way.It goes like this :
In case I accidentally offend anyone, of course, I have no qualms with anyone being homosexual. Their sexual preference is entirely their choice and will, which has nothing to do with me. I only called her a lesbian to emphasize the fact that the person she just contacted happens to be a female – me.
But this is what she replied :
I totally felt like truncating her grandmother story -_- and THE LAST SENTENCE IS SO CLICHE. GOSH!
Yes yes, distance, age or color doesn’t matter… hmm… But do clothes? Nice cropped denim jacket by the way. And how did you get a wonder-ass like that? More bootylicious than Beyonce LOL! But I don’t see her sending me an email asking for friendship. Hmm..
So here comes my very short reply :
But she never understood, did she? I’d give her 5 gold stars for her perseverance and determination. It’s just hilarious how she thinks she can be so close with a person after a brief exchange of emails over the internet and trusts me with her family’s financial legacy!
Oh how sad. I’d donate 2 pails of sympathy to her, wonder if that’s enough. Come, let’s all shed a tear for her?
Why don’t I give her a finger too? It comes together with my sympathy in this case. Take it or leave it, woman!
Or better, I could run off with her non-existent 3.8 million US dollars worth of cash and create a money dam and swim in the sea of her cold hard cash just like ol’ Uncle Scrooge always does. How would that sound? 🙂
Whoaaaaaaaaaaa trying to turn me on summore!
*bursts own bubble* But this was what I replied instead :
So guess what happened after that? What could she be capable of? *thinks*
Just came back after a weekend getaway in Singapore. Perfect remedy for weekday stress! But very very… very BAD strain on the pockets. Spent a bomb on shopping again. Sigh.
It’s really ironic how I told myself that this year’s Chinese New Year clothes shopping is only going to be on a miniscule level.
But just when I thought I could stick to that, I completely blew it when I touched down in Singapore – Double sigh. Bought a pair of stone-washed skinny jeans from Topshop, not the usual blue denim tones but black instead. Walked into River Island for the 1st time and discovered it was quite a big hit in Singapore!
Walked out with more purchases ouch!
I bought meself a high-waisted skirt in Topshop simply because I fell in love with the colors. No shades of red this time but one with a deep purple and blue contrasts. Pretty!
Yes I know the price tags are dangling -_-
Cotton On was next, bought myself a bodycon print skirt from there.
Walked PAST Forever 21 and withstood the temptation of entering as I knew it was my danger zone. Completely off limits for me unless I want to fall in a pool of debt or end up stripped for cash. No sirree! But I failed big time in Somerset 313.
There was 4 levels of Forever 21 goodies there! pic from rockthetrend
4 levels of Forever 21 4 levels of Forever 21 4 levels of Forever 21 4 levels of Forever 21 4 levels of Forever 21 Imagine, 4 storeys of lovelies suited for the fashionista in you. Gosh!
But what was SO MUCH BETTER was the rooftop garden at Orchard Central! Baby brought me up there all the way to the *can’t remember which floor* but it was the highest one. From there, we overlooked Orchard and all the high-rise condominiums around its vicinity
This is us trying to snap a decent picture at the balcony overlooking the city. Angle’s perfect, color is fine and whatnot but look what ruined the photo completely :
I became a man with a macho moustache -_-
As we wandered deeper and around the rooftop garden, we came by a wall which reminds me of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The entire wall was enveloped with lush greeneries and potted flowers and other plants!
Us by the not-so-concrete-anymore wall
There were lotsa restaurants there and some which I reckon is fine dining, considering the impeccable setup as well. Indoor water features include mini fountains with lillies inside! There was also a playground at the rooftop garden with bright colorful statues:
Trying to squeeze ourselves into the picture with the playground!
Other days of the week was spent baking cookies. Yup! I’ve got a keen interest in baking cookies already. In fact, I’ve begun to harbour the love for baking delicious morsels last year. The only setback was that I never owned an oven to burn down the house nor experiment with.
See the gingerbread man wannabe? *coughs*
The recipe we used was the one I looked up on Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, sans the pecans as YingZi’s pre-braces condition disallowed her to crunch on hard bites. Anyway, it was long and grueling to mix the entire batch of batter together – thanks to the oatmeal & semi-melted chocolate!
We didn’t have a blender in the house so no blended oatmeal! It just adds the extra crunch to it once it’s fully baked 🙂
I buttered the baking tray and off we put it into the oven. The smell was extremely invigorating! Ya know, that chocolatey fresh-from-the-oven smell you get whenever someone’s baking?
Yup that’s the one 🙂 But let’s just hope it tastes as good as it smells!
We couldn’t wait to sink our teeth in those loves!
After less than 20 minutes and laid down to cool, it was ready to be eaten!
Yes I know, it doesn’t look too fancy-pancy or neatly rounded with perfectly proportioned corners. It’s irregular, lop-sided, mishapen but call it whatever you want, it’s your TASTEBUDS that takes control 🙂
So shut your eyes and open your mouth wide
we loved it! So did YingZi’s mom 🙂
I had it for the next morning’s breakfast, the following day’s breakfast and even during the journey back to Malaysia!Wanted to bring some for my friends to try ’em but it was all swarmed by ants the very next morning as I stole some for midnight snacks but forgot to shut the lid FML
Anyway, I had a fab time in Singapore! Loves 🙂
Didn’t bring my DSLR this time because the luggage was enough to drag a horse down. So this is technically my 1st holiday without bringing a camera.
But no sweat, baby bought me this very novel Nikon camera necklace-charm with blings on it! Love it lots, really special (although it can’t take real photos) ! Never seen it anywhere before.
Now I can still lug a DSLR around even when I’m not carrying my real DSLR with me 🙂
Funny how I kept hearing Chinese New Year songs even waaaay before the year 2009 was over. I guess the Chinese folks are pretty enthusiastic about the year of the Tiger!
Anyways, the 1st and earliest Chinese New Year event which I was invited for as a start to 2010 was the Tiger Beer’s Year of the Tiger. Like most events, I had my signature on the photowall. But this one was slightly different
It required all the guests to sign their New Years’ Winning Wishes As I’ve tweeted a picture before [here]
I considered my ‘winning wishes’ a tad too general 🙂 Well after all, it IS for public display. But I spotted some really hilarious ones like ‘Pretty girls on my bed tonight’ and heck, check out the rest yourselves!
My CNY wishes was rather generic in comparison 🙂 Guess I was influenced by dad. hee
Me amongst everyone elses’ signatures & wishes
Surprisingly, a few of my friends and I arrived rather early. We were expecting a huge traffic snarl but the highways and roads to KL Live, Life Center was extremely clear! 🙂 Hurrah for that!
Quite empty as we were early!
The bare wall
And soon, more and more people began to fill the place and crowd the photowall!
(FYI group photos & pics of me are credited to jackie , joshua & wilson)
We were all served free-flow of ice-cold Tiger Beer throughout the night. They were all so generous! Even when we were full to the brim, the Tigers won’t stop coming 🙂
…as in, the beer bottles
It was very novel as it was the 1st time I’ve seen a Tiger Dance instead of the usual year-in-year out of a Lion Dance. Tecnically it’s the same routine, but well, they were ingenious enough to replace it with a tiger head.
The audio went a lil wonky but at least you can still see it 🙂
Awww how cute. I remember as a child of 6, I used to pat/stroke the Lion and told mom I wanted to keep it as a pet. Delusional childhood, I know.
More food was served during the Tiger video presentation. I loved it! It showed us a brief history of how Tiger beer was first brewed and then imported all around the world, it’s gradual branding changes, it’s achievements to what it is today
Congrats!
Moving on to the food, I was amused how everything was served in miniature bite sizes. So tiny and adorable. There was pasta, fish fillets, prawns, chicken & capsicums and that’s as far as my memory can take me.
Pasta in a mini glass!
We all had quite a bit 🙂 Yummy, no doubt
We had a Feng Shui Master Joey Yap in the house as well. He gave a talk on which directional guidelines to use in our houses this year of the Tiger as well as how to identify facial features which indicates luck, prosperity and whatnot.
Apparently, if you’re a female with a high forehead, you’re a gold digger. But if you’re a male with a high forehead, you’re bound to be very successful. Hey, what’s with the double standards here! hahaaha 🙂
As usual, I had fun chatting, eating and drinking with some pals
And before we knew it, it was time for games. I was asked to join as well, but considering the fact that I know nuts about the Chinese culture nor have the ability to name all the animals in the Chinese zodiac cycle and what-year-is-for-which-animal, I decided not to make a monkey outta myself on stage.
But I soon realized that it was for 4 in a group. Hmm.. that ain’t so bad! 🙂 A few buddies were called upon to participate in the games too. One thing all of us noticed about the groups though – ALL WERE MALE!
Group 1
Group 2
Group 3 (LOL)
Group 4
In the end, Group 2 won the grand prize. They beatboxed really well. Can’t exactly remember what it is, but it sure is gooooooood stuff. But the rest of them took home lotsa beer crates too! Gonna throw our very own Tiger Beer housepartay yo! Can’t wait 🙂
