My Thoughts On The Next James Bond

April 1, 2019 by thejessicat

We’re in a little bit of a lull between Bond movies, aren’t we?

So I’ve heard that the latest Bond movie has been delayed to 2020 instead. 🙁

But hey, isn’t Daniel Craig worth the wait? Pretty sure we’ve all watched him in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and of course, Spectre.

We know that Danny Boyle, best known for Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire, is directing and writing, as well as that it’s almost definitely Daniel Craig’s last go as 007. But guess what?

Due to the former’s departure, we’ve got a new director now – Cary Fukunaga.

Related image

Really, it could make or break Craig’s tenure when we look back. So far, Casino Royale and Skyfall have been regarded as two of the finest Bond films ever made – but Quantum Of Solace and Spectre were seen as at least mild disappointments.

Which was your fave? Mine was Skyfall. 😎

“Bond 25” as the next instalment is temporarily being called, can break the tie, so to speak.

Right now we really don’t know much about the movie though.

We can guess at its style, and Boyle has said that the #TimesUp movement will inspire aspects of the film. Otherwise, though, we have no idea what we’re going to get. And that almost makes it more fun to go ahead and start kicking off speculation about who might play 007 when Craig is gone.

I have some thoughts about this…

A Black Or Female Bond?

For a while, one of the hottest rumours on the internet was that we’d be seeing our first black James Bond.

We can all agree minorities need more representation in major Hollywood films, so it would be a positive step. However, it’s starting to seem less likely. Idris Elba was the name typically attached to the idea, and he’s now 45 years old.

By the time Bond 25 comes out, a new casting decision is made, and Bond 26 is in the works, he’ll be a little old to be starting a run as the world’s greatest secret agent.

The idea of a female Bond has caused a similar stir, and may actually be more alive. Just this April, betting sites on the internet slashed the odds of a female lead to follow Craig, indicating that a lot of people were betting on the possibility.

Whether or not that ultimately means anything remains to be seen, but if you look around you’ll see actresses like Emily Blunt and Gillian Anderson listed right alongside some of the hottest male contenders.

Tom Hardy’s Role To Lose?

The odds on the next Bond actually fluctuate quite a bit, but for the most part, Tom Hardy has appeared to be in the lead. He’s extremely popular, tends to earn critical acclaim, and perhaps most importantly is a little on the rugged side.

That is to say, he could be a natural follow-up to Craig’s Bond, who does as much with his legs and fists as with guns and gadgets. The only issue here may be that Hardy just signed on to what could become a major franchise. He’s playing the role of Marvel’s Venom, and judging by the trailer views people are pretty excited about it.

I personally think Hardy would be wonderful for the role,

but I can’t help feeling it’s not his cup of tea.

Dark Horse Favorites

The idea of a “dark horse favourite” is something of a contradiction, but it’s certainly one way to phrase things looking at the latest lists. Aside from Tom Hardy, two of the actors who are receiving the best odds to act as the next Bond are James Norton and Jack Huston.

Norton is a 32-year-old British actor best known for working on shows like Happy Valley and McMafia, while Huston is known primarily for appearing in the HBO drama Boardwalk Empire. Neither would be high on the average fan’s list of guesses, but both appear to have a real chance.

It’s always nice to give unexpected actors a chance to shine, so for that reason, I’m curious about these two. But I can’t say either would excite me and Huston, in particular, doesn’t even look the part.

Other Famous Figures Aside from all of the men and women listed above, there are a few more major figures who tend to come up in Bond conversations.

One is Henry Cavill, who plays Superman for DC and Warner Bros. With no disrespect to Cavill, this is one of my least favourite possibilities; he’s an incredibly good-looking man, but a rather stiff, stern actor, lacking the 007 charisma.

Image result for tom hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston is another name that comes up frequently, and he would seem to be a fine choice.

(I honestly really hope he would act with his British accent LOLOL ) 😛

And then there’s the weirdest idea out there: Harry Styles, who made his acting debut in last summer’s Dunkirk. Styles did a fine job in the film (and even Christopher Nolan was impressed by him), but his casting might almost be too distracting given his pop star career.

All in all I’m hoping this comes down to Hardy or Hiddleston, but across the board there are some interesting ideas. Now, let’s all countdown to 2020 for #Bond25 to be out. *squeals

Gods of Egypt – from an Egyptian culture fangirl

May 8, 2016 by thejessicat

This won’t be your typical movie review. The reason why I’m even talking about this movie today is because I’ve always been particularly captivated by Egyptian culture. So here you go, dedicated to ancient Egypt.

Anyone who’s been a long-time reader of my blog would definitely know!

19 year old Jessicat at Universal Studios, Singapore.

I’m not very sure how I acquired this interest in everything related to ancient Egypt and it’s hieroglyphic designs but I think it could’ve possibly grown from constant exposure to my Uncle Mike’s Egyptian-themed living room.

From there, I began to harbour curiosity & fascination at this civilization of wonder that I started to read up several encyclopaedias (yes, I could’ve Googled it but Google’s search engine didn’t exist when I was 10 years old) about the Pyramids of Giza and The Great Sphinx.

Read on for more of my love for Egypt!

Girls, guns and top speed on the roads. What’s not to love? My thoughts on ‘Fast & Furious 6’.

June 4, 2013 by thejessicat

Last week, I managed to catch Fast & Furious 6 with my buddies.

I could remember munching on popcorn furiously during death-defying scenes and laughing myself silly at witty, snark remarks often made.  Here are my thoughts on the movie that I thought I'd share.

Cast-wise, I was stoked to watch Vin Diesel and Dwane Johnson a.k.a The Rock perform together.

Heck, I’ve been a fan of these two manly studs for as long as I can remember!

I liked how Diesel’s overtly masculine character was balanced by several romatically-inclined and “touching” love scenes with his female co-star – to which I must admit, had a body to die for. Gal Gadot who plays Giselle was such a pretty face that I wondered what a picture-perfect, delicate lass like her was doing in this rough and tough action-packed movie.

Oh and… Ludacris was cast as well!

The villains were pretty bad-ass. Luke Evans who plays Shaw was the epitome of it all.

Heist-gang leader, Shaw

Diesel with Michelle Rodriguez who plays Letty

Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock

Politically? Fast 6 has got itself covered.

Typically, the Whites dominated the movie followed by an almost-equal balance of Asians, Latinos and Africans.

Inter-racial romatic relationships spawned in this instalment as well.

Filming locations were also superb!

We were taken on a visual adventure to Canary Islands, Spain, London, Scotland, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and more. I had fun trying to identify which country they were moving here and there too.

The London Bridge in the background

The verdict?

Just like its prequels and sequels, Fast and Furious 6 was superbly action-packed with explosive, fighting, speeding and nail-biting scenes. Think planes on fire, race-cars catapulting over road dividers & bridges, army tanks speeding down the highway crushing oncoming vehicles to nothing but metal scrap, firing of bullet-to-the-chest shots, dangling from speeding cars and more.

Most of the scenes will leave you holding my breath and gripping the edge of your seat.

Despite boasting such heart-stopping scenes, this movie had its fair share of poignant and rib-tickling parts to dissolve the adrenalin rush it shot upon us.

There were several touching, moral lessons revolving around themes of family, friendship, loyalty and teamwork embedded into the storyline. Fast and Furious 6 also delivered excellent punch-lines and funny one-liners so frequently; bound to leave one shedding tears of laughter for.

If you’re one to fancy girls oozing with sexiness (legit, brutal girl fights included!), guns and fast cars, this might be just the movie for you. However, be prepared to leave your logic outside the cinema hall as a couple of plot holes and scenes hardly made any sense, neither were they scientifically nor logically accurate.

LOLOLOLOL

Before I go, here's the trailer get your speed on if you haven't watched it! cool

Like it? I watched the trailer four times before watching the actual movie LOL

I was THAT excited for the show.

Don't forget to catch the movie in cinemas! cool You'll love it just as much as I do

Heads being ripped off & vampire sex scenes in slow-motion? Twilight : Breaking Dawn Part 2

November 22, 2012 by thejessicat

So the Twilight saga has finally come to an end.

That means goodbye to sparkly vampires, expressionless actresses and hunky werewolves.

I was invited to the premiere screening of Twilight : Breaking Dawn Part 2 last night in TGV Cinemas, Sunway Pyramid when it was released in Malaysia (Thanks Josh!)

Brought along buddy Pamela as my plus one for the movie premier

If you remember from Part 1, leading vampire couple Edward Cullen and Bella Swan bore themselves a beautiful daughter, a girl who is half-vampire and half-mortal.

In Part 2, a significant chunk of the storyline revolves around their hybrid offspring, Renesmee, the consequences of her existence, gathering vamp troops to defend themselves from the Volturi.

Bella, Edward and their daughter, Renesmee

What really intrigued me was how the Cullens managed to hunt down vamps from all corners of the globe; they had such a racially diverse & multi-ethnic troop with heavy, distinguishable accents!

Our familiar Northern American and Italian vampires were cast alongside Middle Eastern vamps, Indian vamps, Japanese vamps, tribesfolk vamps, Amazonian vamps, Russian vamps, Eastern European vamps, and Icelandic vamps slathered with face-powder so thick they look like an aftermath of Botox gone wrong

My favorite part of the movie was the bloodshed and war between the Cullens VS the Volturi. There was so much action, gore and violence!

Think decapitations, ripping of limbs, tearing open mouths and more.

The Cullens gather against the Volturi

However, a mind blowing twist in the plot happened towards the end of said action-packed scene which left us viewers frustrated and shell-shocked. Everyone in the cinema was speechless and burst into laughter.

I too, was flabbergasted and could only manage a as I felt so tricked!

The photo above is a hint

Also, is it just me or is Alice Cullen really drop dead gorgeous in the movie? She has this aura of mystery engulfing her dark, gothic look whenever she speaks! Love her. My fave Cullen of all
Ultimately, I managed to watch my hunky Jacob Black in action

There was one hilarious part in the woods where he stripped for an elderly man (Not in a sexual way, don’t worry… but I won’t tell you who!) which got the whole theatre giggling.

Jacob, oh, you sexy beast!

Despite taking his shirt off only once to reveal his rippling muscles and his body of a tank – much to many Team Jacob girls’ disappointment – watching him in character was good enough for me.

Can you turn into a werewolf one more time for me, please? ;)

Apart from Jacob & Alice Cullen, my favorite parts were Aro’s dramatic expressions.

Though I’m not a fan, I found Twilight : Breaking Dawn Part 2 to be a wonderful conclusion to the whole Twilight saga  It was great to see all the characters again for one last time.

But its sappy dialogue, hyperbolic expressions and unnecessary vampire romance sex scenes (in slow motion, no less!) upstaged the touching storyline, cryptic scenes, family values, action-packed parts and funny punchlines. I give this movie a 3 out of 5.

An epic finale to the never-ending Twilight hype (finally, ey?), you’d be a fool not to watch – yes, even if you dislike the series
For the rest of you who do, enjoy the show, Twi-hard fans & sparkly vamps!

My take on Shrek 4 : Forever After movie review with screenshots! At the premier screening in GSC Mid Valley

May 21, 2010 by thejessicat

So it was one rainy morning that I made my way to Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) in Mid Valley. Who would've thought I'd go shopping so early in the morning? Haha no I didn't. Courtesy of United International Pictures (UIP) and The Star, I got to catch the media screening of Shrek 4 : Forever After.

It's the final chapter yo!

Me with my complimentary 3D glasses!

Key & Ring Brass necklace by Soak Republic

So here's my take on the movie

It started off with an ungrateful Shrek, discontented with his life's splendours. His wife, his babies and his position as a 'tame' domestic and family Shrek. He was never thankful for everything he had! Now, everyone knows they should count their blessings and be satisfied with their lives….

But not Shrek.

He just wanted to be the ferocious Shrek feared by all again

He wanted everything to never happen at all

and signed a Promise with wrinkly annoying ol' Rumpelstiltskin longing to feel like a 'real ogre' again

pffft. This fella wa on an ego trip. Men. tsk tsk tsk 😛

Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met.  Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.

Watch out for the bold heroine-like Fiona

Her entrance was made ala Xena the Warrior Princess!

No. Sorry. IDK who you are. leave me alone

kthxbai

One of my favorite parts of the movie was watching Puss in Boots' antics! The fast-paced and brave kitty was now a… fat slobby piece of lard. I've always had a thing for fat cats hahaha. They're so cuddly and well.. fat. LOL

Puss, what happened to you?

You need to go on a diet, oh yes you do!

FUNNY PARTS!!

Won't tell you what they are, but ya better pay attention to these scenes  😀

#1 Take note of how Puss navigates himself

#2 Watch how the ogres move.

CONFIRM YOU WILL KNOW WHAT MOVES ONE!

and no, it's not MJ's signature crotch-thrust pose

#3 angry wig! happy wig! announcement wig! magic wig!

Wah, this fellow doesn't need no Yun Nam.

I personally felt this movie was very touching, hilarious and bursting with moral values! This coming from a non-Shrek fan FYI. If you're a follower of the other Shrek prequels, you definitely must never give this a miss 😀 You'll love it just like I do… or maybe even more! 😀

Perfect movie to watch with your family, kids or with your significant other.

Come on Fiona, let's bust our way outta here!

Where are they going? Well, that's for you to find out 😀

Go be one of the first few to catch this movie, loves! 🙂 🙂 Shrek : Forever After hits the big screen today. Are you a fan of Shrek's? hehe. Better watch it before you get whisked to the alternate and grotesque Far Far Away by Rumpelstiltskin! 😀 In his world, EVERY fine print matters!

it ain't over till the fat lady sings!

Or rather in this context, till Donkey sings! 😀

Just don't be too annoyed by his out-of-tune renditions throughout the movie hahaha

Taking the train can be rather fascinating as well. When you hear OTHER PEOPLE’S MUSIC through their earphones, it’s like the radio where you’re just hoping your favorite song comes on. #publictransport
