Back from a full day out at Melbourne Zoo + Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Egyptian exhibition!

May 15, 2011 by thejessicat

This is insane! Out from 9am – 11pm and at least 10 hours of non-stop walking has really taken its toll on me.

I'm maxed out tired to the bone now – resting while transferring photos and blogging this post.

Yeahyeah, I know I should probably hit the sack by now but being me, it is imperative that I blog an immediate snippet before the entire blogpost… because who knows, this might take another million years to be up LOL

I love my new prezzie! An adorable, furry, soft tigga hat to keep my head warm

So anyway! I was at the Melbourne Zoo in Royal Park for almost 5 hours; was impossible to cover every nook and cranny

I reckon it would be safe to say that almost the entire animal kingdom reside within the walls of that zoo

From the smallest of insects…..

…to the biggest of animals!

My whole afternoon was spent exploring the entire zoo hunting down the animals to take photos of.

I swear felt like Dora the Explorer LOL! But the fact that I'm lacking the binoculars and knapsack doesn't come in the way for I think I made up for it with a big-ass DSLR camera and a slingbag πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

And… the King of the Jungle! (yes, if you're wondering… I was THAT close to Simba here)

It was incredible, better than any zoo I've ever been! Melbourne Zoo is massive and the entire place was an extremely close-to-real-life makeshift rainforest dessert ocean underground grassland antartic tropics aviary all in one.

Unlike many *cough* places *cough* that my fellow Malaysians know….

There are certain zoos in particular who mistreat their animals, cooping them up in tiny cages with restricted space to exercise, not cleaning their already miserable cages and drugging them to ensure their benevolence during photo-opportunities.

Oh and yes, I know I owe everyone a photo of a kangaroo ever since I set foot in Australia

So… ta-daa! πŸ˜€ Here it is, shot in the zoo earlier today

Plenty more photos of the glorious (and even the unglorious, ugly, often overlooked) members of the animal kingdom to come! I did, as usual, took truckloads of photos.

And the most tedious part is filtering & batch processing them all. Bleh.

Headed to the Tutankhamun exhibition after that for another 3 hours!

On the right: a bag of Egyptian souvenirs I bought. On the left: a replica of Tutankhamun's skull

Verdict? It was magnificent and we were clearly in awe with everything they had to offer. Everyone was clearly enthused with the displays, footages, ancient relics, hieroglyphs, statues, fragile mummified skeletons,  and the like. More to come, I promise!

If you're an avid lover of Egyptian civilization like I am, you'll be star struck.

And now do you still wonder why I had the Eye of Horus tattooed on my left wrist? πŸ˜‰

My defeat at pre-drinks King’s Cup X Toga Party! Let the drunken shenanigans roll…

May 12, 2011 by thejessicat

Sorry I took a while to write this blogpost.

Was laden with assignments (still am!) but here's the post so stop bugging me about it already, rawr!

bring on the Greek goddesses πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

If you remember this preview post I blogged just before I headed to the party, you would kinda remember I had a similar picture to this:

except without Todd photobombing me from behind!

So as usual, my mates and I were having pre-drinks before the party

We decided to play King's Cup tonight.

Here's some of us! The rest had adjourned to the party already

I finished my bottle of Baileys and ran outta drinks in the midst of the party

LOL forcing drinks down Devin's throat and applying eyeshadow on him

Check out his sweet lavender eyeshadow bwahahaha!

Must be a dare or something

Anyway, back to the game.

The whole lot of us played and played, did hilarious stuff and when the final round came… I LOST THE GAME.

and had to drink the entire full King's Cup of the mixture of everyone's different drinks FML

That was NOT good πŸ™

Nasty and it's a one way bottoms up without stopping

down to my last few sips… I hate this game! Ughh

And so I finished. Am actually surprised I didn't pass out or anything, seeing that I finished my own bottle of Baileys and had a few shots of bourbon before King's Cup.

I'm lasting longer than I thought! But my head was already very woozy

All my mates knew I was SO smashed and sub-conscious already

I initially couldn't give a rat's arse about going to Toga Party anymore for I was light headed and all I wanted to do was to sleep.

But then again, we were all dolled up, dressed up and looking our best to go already πŸ™

So how can I just ditch the party?

Bleh. So I went ahead hoping to survive throughout the entire night

goodness gracious if I didn't change the lighting of this picture, I would look even more red and flushed

Hit the party in full swing

Don't remember this picture being taken nor who this person is

Sorry for blurry photos, tipsy photos aren't really the best

The DJs of the night!!! DJ Nick James and his special guest DJ

(blur photo again, I know)

By the drinks bar…. can't believe they still wanna drink some more!

I've clearly surrendered LOL

Make way for more tipsy shots.

Since I don't remember most parts of the night, let's see the drunk shenanigans roll –

With Benny!

He's lookin' all hyper here

With Laura Cook and someone's head popping up behind

She looked like a Chinese monk tonite!

With Kayla πŸ˜€

Two kitty fanatics… purrrr purrr meow!

With Konzy!

Still pissed drunk. Need some zzzzzzzz's

With Rowan!

He's looking all Sparta 300 tonight

With Laura!

Though I still don't get what's with the mouth drawings… but it's pretty cool πŸ˜€

Don't remember this photo! But it looks like we were on the dance floor

Outside on the uni deck with more mates in Togas!

Romans/Greeks in white!

With Cherie, Brittany and Laura

Deanna reminded me of Medusa that night!

Also don't remember this photo… AND WHY AM I HOLDING MY PASSPORT?

Back outside at the deck chilling

FINALLY. I remember this photo! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I think I managed to sober up by the end of the night. Phew!

From the photos, it looked like a fun party had broke free last Wednesday night!

It's a pity my only memories was from the pictures I have. Ohwell… one last themeparty to go next week:

GOOD vs. EVIL Bring it on!

Sigh. I KNEW I should've brought my devilish horns & pitchfork to Aussie with me

My Greek venture on a Sunday afternoon! Hellenic cuisine @ The Olive Grove | Richmond, Melbourne

May 8, 2011 by thejessicat

Just before I headed to Sydney for the Easter holidays, I decided to meet up with a friend of mine for some Greek delights.

If you guys have read my tweets on Twitter, yall would've known where I went for this nomfest already!

One of my new fave delicacies – Greek food!

Also, I can't believe I've never had it ever before I came to Aussie

So the Sunday just before I left for Sydney, Grace and I headed to this restaurant to have our Hellenic cuisine πŸ™‚

Right along Bridge Road in Richmond, lay a very cosy 'The Olive Grove' Greek eatery. Bingo!

In for lunchies we go!

I loved the interior to bits.

It was in pristine condition; elaborately decorated, yet still boasted a minimalistic concept

The table set-up had a tinge of fine dining to it

Chandeliers, large wooden-framed mirrors and wenge-like furniture

We were ushered to a nice lil table for two and given the menu.

The first thing we ordered was some unctuous wine to kick-start our palate πŸ™‚

'

Some red and white wine for us ladies, please? πŸ™‚

Carbonello for me and Chardonay for her πŸ˜€

Although I do prefer white wine to reds, I reckon a slight venture into an acquired  taste would be nice

So we did some catching up and clinking our wine glasses over funny conversations and itsybitsies of our lives πŸ™‚

I vividly remember how we met for the first time though; on the plane. Yup, you read right.

Grace and I met on our flight to Melbourne, some 2 months ago.

And now, we're sitting here together, having a splendid lunch on an Easter Sunday πŸ˜€ What are the odds, ey?

Our food came and it sure looked yummy. Here's what we ate, beginning from the Mezedes:

Skordalia and Melitzana served with Pita Bread

(Greek translation: puree of potatoes, garlic & lemon and roasted smoked eggplant sprea)

They were best served warm. Perfect with the dips

I always love the lemon twang in my food, just like how I enjoy most of my meals extra (black) peppery.

Our mains arrived and oh lookie here, a candid picture of me squeezing the lemon!

Lo and behold, get ready for some food porn! πŸ˜›

Our mains are as follows :

Soutzoukakia,Marithes and Chicken Souvlaki

(Greek translation: tomato salsa meatballs, white bait and marinated chicken skewers)

It was so nommy! I loved the meatballs – it was so juicy and rich in flavour. Massive too!

The white bait was more like Malaysian 'ikan bilis' to us LOL talk about familiarity πŸ˜›

And the chicken skewers was simply fabulous

Reminds me of grilled chicken satay, back in Malaysia – only yummier!

Kalamari, Keftedes & Loukanika

(Greek translation: Calamari, ground beef mince patties & spicy lamb sausages)

The fried calamari was absolute yum and so were the beef patties!

But I didn't really like the sausage, Grace liked it though. She said it tasted like Taiwanese sausages.

Ok since I'm always smiling and readily posed in most of the photos posted up in my blog, below is a rather unglam photo for you to see. Bleh.

It's me nomming – I don't know what it is – looks like the meatball to me.

Also, we had potato crisps served with our meals too. Just the way I like it –

salty crinkle-cut types! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ which is probably why I love Cottage Fries so much.

Hand chopped patates crisps

All's well, end's well.

We had a great catch up lunch and shopping in Melbourne Central followed thereafter πŸ™‚

thanks Olive Grove, for a deliciously good time! πŸ˜€

Now I know where to get good Greek food. Here, in Richmond!

There's more Hellenic cuisines in Melbourne city too… and in Oakleigh. Heaps of them πŸ˜€

Once again, cheers to friendship unexpectedly brewed from an 8 hour plane ride

We click so well that it's not even funny πŸ˜€ Now that's why I love flying…

…for you'll never know who you'll meet during a flight!

Off for Toga Party now – Bring on the Greeks, Romans n’ bottomless drinks!

May 4, 2011 by thejessicat

Wootwoot!! The first themeparty after the long Easter break.

None other than Toga party :)

Some of my friends used their white bedsheets to make their toga outfits (how smart!). A few of us went to Spotlight craft store to buy some fabric and necessities to make our toga outfits instead

But since I've already gotten my toga dress from Sydney, I just tagged along for fun!

Yup yup, bought this in Westpoint mall – can't remember the name of the shop though!

Toga Party, jump up let's get crayyyzeeee As we speak, we're all playing King's Cup drinking game to get really smashed before we adjourn for the party!

I've skulled a few drinks now, let's just hope I don't get too tipsy.

Oh and anyway, here's the full shot of my dress. I freakin hell love it heaps!

Alrightey, I've gotta get back to the drinking game with my fellow Greek and Roman comrades. We're heading off to the party soon! ΕλληνικΞ¬ (Kalinikta) to all of you too! πŸ˜€

Hubba hubba to an endless night of partying tonight!!

'Cos they say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do πŸ˜‰

Pretty gifts n fruity flavours makes me smile! Fresh handmade cosmetics by Lush

May 1, 2011 by thejessicat

As ya’ll would’ve probably known by now, I’ve just got back from my one week Easter holiday in New South Wales yesterday! Was in Sydney with friends & family; away from home in Gippsland.

But I’m so glad to be back now, for I had the warmest welcome-back surprise ever.

Also, thank you heaps for the lovely gifts!

Anyway, I just came out from the bath and smelt so fruity and fresh. Yummy!

Then I realized I totally have to blog about those prezzies which I just used with my steaming-hot shower!

I’ll start with the Summer Pudding soap I’m holding πŸ™‚

I know I am naturally partial towards monochromes in terms of possessions and even fashion sense, but bright colours do make my day at times πŸ˜€ Tried, tested and proven!

So I’m supposed to be working on my assignment now, but got carried away because I was curious to know what my soap was made of :P (You know someone has ran outta excuses to do her assignment when she does random research on soap)

It’s cut up from this mega big, pretty chunk!

And here’s what it says about my Summer Pudding :

Just like a real pudding, it’s brimming with pieces of fruit. It’s a creamy soap that scents your body with its fruity fragrance. We make it with scrubby ground almonds, softening almond oil, and cleansing citrus oil. We’re sure you’ll find it difficult to resist a slice of pudding

After my shower, I kept it in a plastic container to ensure that it stays dry when I’m not using it.

Love it too much! πŸ˜‰

There, there… nice and sitting prettily waiting for me to use it again!

And also, I’ve discovered that Lush is this famous brand of handmade cosmetics originating from the UK since 1995 and to date, they have more than 600 stores across 43 countries!

That’s pretty damn amazing, if you ask me. They also used to be affiliated with The Body Shop a long time ago, back in the 1970’s.

Okay, on to the next lovelies!

Here’s my new Each Peach; a massage bar .

It smells so invigorating I can’t wait to use it

It even has a plant/flower carved on it too πŸ˜€

Schweet!

I love what its made of, take a look!

The one to brighten, lighten and throw off the gloom with a concentrated citrus fix. We make the Each Peach bar with fruity avocado and mango butters, mixed with our cocoa butter and shea butter base for an extra nutritious, softening treat. Essential oils of Persian lime, grapefruit, wild orange and mandarin help to encourage a sunny disposition. Very reviving: best for mornings.

Holybejeebus. I SO wanna use it now. I’m very stressed from my assignments and ultra-merciless deadlines.

Nothing could be better than a massage fix, I swear.

Finally, my last soap bar came in 2 adorable cubes.

If you can see from the photo above, its the Miranda ones placed beside the LUSH tin container πŸ™‚

I didn’t wanna open it yet, so here’s how it looks like

We make Miranda with kiwi fruits because they are full to bursting with vitamin C and gently astringent on your skin. We add bergamot oil, which is said to be good for some skin conditions, because it smells of oranges. There’s toning ylang ylang and juniper berry oil to brighten up congested skin.

I used to dread showers/baths because it’s freezing cold here in Australia, especially during Autumn at the mo!.

But now, I can look forward to showertime even more and smelling like a zest of fruity goodness.

Sniff me, would you? πŸ˜› πŸ˜›
