End of the world? I died but I’m back – survivor of the apocalypse! Nope, it’s Halloween 2012 at Skull Island @ Zouk Club KL!

December 24, 2012 by thejessicat

One of the most memorable (yet highly nonsensical!) things I'll never forget about 2012 is the incessant, unnecessary buzz about how the world will come to an end on the 21st of December 2012.

Who are you fooling, really?

Believe it, if you must. The end-of-the-world apocalypse was torturous… but I made it out alive.

How about you?

It is beyond me how moronic the world can be, for taking the prediction of the Mayans so seriously, spreading this prophecy like wildfire, sharing sappy posts on every social media channel possible about their impending last day on earth

Doomsday you say? I shrugged it off the moment I first heard a breath of it.

Anyway, the point of this post today isn't about the ridiculous end-of-the-world shebang, but rather… to share how I celebrated Halloween 2012.

Decorations came in abundance by the week of Halloween!

This enormous pumpkin was taken at one of the concourses of 1 Utama, while I was waiting for Konzy to buy his Halloween outfit :D:D

Lot's of choices at costume/party shops It was pretty last minute, but turned out great!

My gym, Celebrity Fitness had their fair share of fun doing up Halloween decor at the towel shelves too

The moment we got home in the evening, I got straight down to business.

Dressing up and giving myself a bloody, ghoulish makeover  The result?

Since this is an incredibly rare occasion I managed to finish getting ready before he does, I had some extra time to selca until he was done.  ;)

Wore a wig & stabbed myself in the head with a kitchen knife too

LOL How do you like it?

I'm that girl from your nightmares.

You might have seen this on my Facebook & Instagram

After almost an hour, he's finally finished preparing for the night! :D

Took longer than I expected, since he had to cut open his robe, slash it and stitch it back.

Hello! Meet Ghostface and the Fallen Angel. How do you do?

When the rest of our partycrew for the night were ready, we took a one way trip down to Zouk Club KL!

Let's tear up the bloody night!

With bestiePam during the ride

Three of us at the back!

We arrived Skull Island @ Zouk Club KL by midnight

Great how they went all out with the decorations!

Almost all the ground staff of Zouk were dressed as pirates. :D

There were fire-twirlers, fire-eaters, fire-breathers & snake enchanters dressed in pirate gear too!

One of the pyromaniacs in action

Mingled outside at the patio with many fellow partygoers who were all dressed up as various characters.

Photos soon ensued. Being strangers doesn't quite stop us from taking photos with one another!

Extremely tall pirate men in stilts and I!

Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro (I think?), werewolf in chains with Konzy and I

The said fire-breather and I!

And of course, my one and only date for the Halloween night. Mr Ghostface LOLOL

So are we ready to ravage Halloween like never before?

Kon and I wanted to bar-hop around all 5 of the party-chambers of Zouk.

First stop: Phuture!

Us girlies!

The boys!

It was extremely crowded, which proved impossible for us to dance nor even squeeze through the sardine-packed crowd. For those not in the know, Phuture plays mainstream, contemporary pop, RnB and the American Top 40 chart toppers.

Not exactly up my alley anymore, but hey, I used to be a fan of those genres in my late teens LOL

Next stop : Mainroom!

Our resident DJs were dressed up too! I think they were: a nun, jesus and a friar

The music was a lot more to my cup of tea. Mainroom plays a mix of electronic dance music, such as trance, house, electro, dubstep, big room, progressive and more.

I had heaps of fun there headbanging and jumping non-stop! To those that accidentally got their clothes caught on the feathers of my wings, I'm sorry! :D

Our partycrew for the night!

That's also when my date and someone else's date of the

same kind found each other and "cheated" on us HAHA

Third stop: Velvet Underground!

This room plays mambo jambo, contemporary and good remixes of blasts from the past

Thanks for the photo, Jaz!

Didn't take much photos, as we were too busy partying on an equally packed dancefloor!

Next stop: Barsonic!

One of my two most favourite rooms of Zouk, Barsonic plays more underground, harder bass, techno, hardstyle, drum and bass, jumpstyle and more.

Mr. Nasty and GanjaGuru (dressed as Jigsaw from SAW)!

The room saw Halloween revellers dressed to impress! Or should I say, to scare, in this context?

We made plenty of new friends and captured some more memories!

Anyone wants their hedges trimmed? We have Edward Scizzorhands in the house :P

We partied hard with some Japanese kimono girls and a chef with a severed hand!

Didn't make it to the final room, Aristo

It was already 4AM and we were beginning to feel a tad too woozy for our own good.

Another great night to add to the crazy Halloween parties I celebrate every year!

Till next year, all you ghouls, vampires, draculas, demons, zombies, souls, devils & monsters!

May the undead arise from the underworld to party once again!

A fashion fast-forward evening at KLCC Fashion Week – witnessing the latest Spring/Summer collection!

July 13, 2012 by thejessicat

Lights! Camera! Action!

A new season begins! Looks like it's time for every fashion apparel to showcase their elaborate new designs; marking the start of a new look they bring to their pretty display windows.

In the 1st quarter of the year, I had the pleasure of attending Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC)'s Fashion Week. Watched models strut down the runway donning new Spring/Summer collections of various brands!

My plus one and I

We adjourned to the city on a rainy Thursday night to witness KLCC Fashion Week: Spring/Summer edition!

When we arrived, the entire concourse was filled with guests and other shoppers/passers-by congregating around the concourse & even on all the floors above us!

Looks like everyone's all ready to watch this season's new collection from various high street brands!

Invited to enthral invited guests, the very first Malaysia idol,

Jaclyn Victor took to the stage and belted out some fabulous renditions of popular songs

She ended her session with her winning song off Malaysian Idol, 'Gemilang'.

For my non-Malaysian readers, this translates to 'Glory', 'victory' of that sort. How apt, ey?

The bevy of models made their appearance; and sashayed to the top of the stage

They the disappeared behind the stage and soon began their catwalk.

Ready for some swagger? 😀

Couldn't help gushing about how adorable this looked 😀

AWWWWWWWWWWWW!

One final photo op! 😀

Tonight was a delightful display of various brands in KLCC for Spring/Summer season

I had a wonderful time checking out what each brand had to offer. Bought some of my favorites too!

Was ushered to 'The Apartment' KLCC for some delicious refreshments after the fashion show

Thank you KLCC for a lovely evening!

Keep up the spirit of bringing fashion-forward apparels

Sorry for the tardiness of this post!

It was stuck in my drafts for a couple of months now

My jeans got slashed and ripped apart at 4 A.M by theboyfriend.

June 18, 2012 by thejessicat

Two people. A random night of spontaneity.

Swatches of my favourite denim jeans shredded to pieces all over the floor.

LOL did I catch you right there with the suggestive title and teaser line?

Well, in my defence, my jeans really did get torn off by theboyfriend. But I did not mean it in the :

Mr. Bean kind of way

So it was 4 in the morning and both of us were bored with nothing much to do.

I started lamenting to him about how my favourite pair of MNG jeans isn't really my style anymore.

I still love it, don't get me wrong.

But I find myself more into skinny jeans now instead of straight-cut and boot-leg cut jeans. That, and also the fact that I don't own a pair of ripped/slashed denim shorts.

LIKE THOSE LOVELY ONES I KEEP SEEING ON SUPRE AND ASOS! 🙁

So we decided to get creative with a pair of blunt scissors, a knife, our thinking caps & of course, my jeans.

Looked up what designs I liked and what designs I disliked before deciding on our own design.

Step 1 : Cutting up my jeans to my desired length

Snip snip snip!

We decided to cut it a bit longer just in case we made any mistakes

Ta-daaa! Well, this is what it'll look like if sewn into place

But I wasn't looking for demure, boring ol' denim shorts like the myriads I have in my wardrobe.

I was seeking something more…. wild. One that boasts a Slashed-Ripped-Torn look

So with my knife and his blunt scizzors, we started to pick at it furiously!

Kept hacking and slashing at it to create a rugged look with jaggered edges

Step 2 : Slash & rip at it in no particular order. No rigidity whatsoever!

He attacked the front of my (now) denim shorts while I attacked the back.

I wanted claw-marks too at the front of my shorts, beneath both pockets but I didn't want them to look alike.

We ended up giving it horizontal claw marks beneath my right pocket & diagonal claw marks beneath my left

Hack hack hack. slash slash slash. rip rip rip. And here's the result :

Nice? What do you think?

I love it to shreds. LOL quite literally too! 😛

Worn them out only once but already getting quite comfy with them already

Major credits to theboyfie for being my partner in this DIY project in the wee hours of the morning!

My way of saying thank you : a surprise breakfast in bed of omelette with diced potatoes & cherry tomatoes

Girl, you got Skrillex hair! I know. NEW HAIRDO : The side-shaven buzzcut!

January 31, 2012 by thejessicat

As many of you would know, I am generally known as that red-head blogger girl.

I wouldn't expect anything else, considering the fact that I have donned red hair since 2006.

Including having a blog category of 'Hair Escapades' which documents bits & pieces of all things hair-related.
Anyway….new year, new look!

Imma be sporting a side-shaven buzzcut now!

Byebye to an entire chunk of long red hair

Still debating whether or not I should do it at that time

But hey, why not take the plunge? ;)

Apart from that, I'm still that same ol' redhead that you know me as.

How can I not be? Not gonna change my signature look/colour for the world! 😀

To be honest, I have yet to get used to this hipster hairstyle. 🙁

Prior to this, I would always just smile & love the camera at any angle thrown at me.

But after having this hairdo, I couldn't help but to fidget irritably at the way it swept sometimes wrongly to the side, or ruffled in an awkward position.

Hence I wouldn't stop taking test-photos to determine which angle suits this hairdo best

Even my mom and the boyfie noticed. They asked me why I seem to be camwhoring so much more now.

Truth is, I wasn't exactly camwhoring for fun; more of trying miserably to identify what works with the new cut.

Sigh. Just Paranoid Parrot getting the better of me ;(

Less buzzcut showing

More buzzcut showing

These photos today are some of the angles or expressions that *actually* work.

I realized that other angles really made me look like a boy or a dyke 🙁 🙁

So I guess it's this angle for now until my undercut grows back

To my surprise, when I tweeted and Facebook-ed the photo of my new hairstyle, so many people commented how awesome it looks, how it really suits me and my character as well as my having this hairdo was "just so very you Jess!".

Wow, I'm so relieved 🙂 Thanks so much everyone!!

It really made me feel better. Perhaps I'm just not used to actually walking around with it for the 1st time

Diagonal side view

Candid bottom view

Oh and speaking of which, the other half had an undercut done too 🙂

Here's a real close-up and side view of how it really looks like

Who's this new Skrillette in the block?

If you're wondering who inspired my hairstyle, it's none other than Dubstep artiste SKRILLEX!

Skrillex aka Sonny Moore

After having my Skrillex-haircut, I googled up to see which other celebrity has had the same do done.

I found heaps!

British singer Cher Lloyd

Progressive House & Trance vocalist Emma Hewitt

Even pop singer Ke$ha has it

Gradually, taking heaps of photos and eventually finding my best angle that complements my new haircut made me fall in love with my new side-shaven undercut buzz even more and more.

Also, throughout the past few days when I was back in Penang for Chinese New Year, I was somewhat pleased to have random people stopping me in the mall or in the streets telling me things along the lines of :

To which I replied…

I know, right? 😀

… and loving it by the day!

Scream! FREEDOM freaky-spooky-horror rave party feat. Dutch DJs Ummet Ozcan + Leon Bolier

December 4, 2011 by thejessicat

I live and breathe parties, especially rave ones of booming electronic dance music with wicked basslines

And FREEDOM, proved to be one of the most stellar series of rave parties yet again.

The previous FREEDOM event I attended was the one 4 months ago in the lovely island of Penang

The party had a blue theme, but this time round, the theme was one of my faves ever!

FREEDOM rave – with a spooky twist!

As you might've already known if you're a loyal reader, I simply adore costume parties – or fancy dress parties – or whatever you call it, cos it's so much for fun. Just as long as there's a theme to adhere to, count me in!

The more extreme or outrageous, the better

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

When I arrived the venue, I had a tremendous – albeit pleasant – shock of my life!

Not only haven't I stepped foot in KL Live for as long as I can remember (as I was abroad most of the year), but FREEDOM has certainly transformed the place into a dungeon of horor!

Greeted by the Count Dracula + stone gargoyles + tombstones + cobwebs at the entrance

Stepped inside to see an extensive graveyard barricaded by spiked fencing + ghouls dangling from the ceiling

I could even hear (pre-recorded) eerie screams & laughter from the corners!

There was a smoke machine in motion too.

Aye, foggy foggy, misty graveyard!

So what am I? A devilish, flesh-eating zombie with Freddy Krueger claws haha!

When I brought my clan to party with me, I implored that they ALL dress up for the occasion.

I know it's the Malaysian party-culture to get lazy/uninvolved in such active participation of themeparties whatsoever but no, I shall not condone going to a themeparty in a pair of jeans & tshirt.

And neither will my friends!

It's time to up the freak factor!

Darryl and I bleeds it out!

Vic and I, bloodthirsty vamps for more of your blood

So…. who says Malaysians don't dress up according to the theme?

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

I'll kickstart the revolution if I had to 😉

Say hello to one (amongst many others) that will!

So as I said before, about how FREEDOM's Scream Your Choice party set-up was really impressive, check out more of what they've got done up. The entire stage was adapted into a giant tombstone!

With loads of spooks roaming around everywhere!

Just as you thought Halloween was over, yeah? 😉

No. Not quite over, methinks.

I liked the 2 giant gargoyles mounted atop the stage which flanked the DJ spinning for the night

Dutch DJ Ummet Ozcan was one of the DJs spinning for the night

I checked out his tracks on Youtube. My faves are Arcadia and Timewave Zero!

He's pretty damn good. Could see the crowd tearing up the dance floor already

My buddies and I

What really got me going, apart from the deep, dark trance/electro/house beats of course, was the fact that this terror dungeon was full of party mascots mingling with the crowd! They were the side-acts of the night.

Here are a few which I managed to catch for a photo :

The Mummy!

A Pontianak (Malay vampire)

Guess who? It's my all-time favorite bad-ass villain!

None other than…….. Chucky the murderdoll!

And heaps more 🙂

Now that's such an awesome way to freak the shizz outta partygoers

We were treated to a freeflow of bloody cocktail, Cranberry Vodka for the night

T'was yummy… and the lychee reminded me of floating eyeballs haha!

Anyway, more random party photos of ze clan and I from the horror rave night!

Ze clan and I

Before we knew it, the next Dutch DJ of the night, Leon Bolier took to the stage!

He was just as electrifiying as the previous DJ if not better  Summernight Confessions was cosmic!

GOGOGOGOGOGO Leon Bolier!

Neon, colorful laser lights were bounding all around the walls in sync with his wicked beat drops

RAWWRRRRR!!!

Another one of my rave kakis Reze!

My entire party entourage of the night, altogether in one group photo!

Major loves and scares!

Thank you, once again, FREEDOM, for bringing down kick-ass electronica DJs and for an amzing party experience!

I got home just as bruised, battered and bleeding as I was when I first stepped into the party! 😉

Alls well, end's well.

It's never too late for a spooky thrill!
