Throwback: Thailand holiweek! My shopping haul in Bangkok… rescued by my credit card!

June 29, 2013 by thejessicat

Exactly last year today, Konzy and I were in Thailand for a week-long holiday.

We covered two places – Phuket and Bangkok. As far as I can remember, it was perfect yet relatively agonizing towards the end. You shall see why in a bit!

I was re-organizing my photo albums in my computer just yesterday and found that I haven’t blogged anything about our Thailand trip.

There were so many things we did, but here are the five things we did in Thailand as a start!

1. Phang Nga Bay

We went kayaking at the famed Phang Nga Bay included in our island-hopping tour,

did some cave canoeing and swam in the Andaman Sea.

Got to see James Bond island in Phuket with our very own eyes there!

2. Phuket Safari Tour

We got driven on a ox cart around the villages, checked out rice farming, rode buffalos,

watched monkeys perform for us and also rode on top of elephants!

3. Baiyoke Tower

We had drinks at the skybar of Baiyoke Skybar, atop Thailand’s tallest, most scenic hotel in Bangkok!

I couldn’t stop enthusing over the marvellous view of the city at night.

4. Wat Saket

We hiked more than 318 steps up the Golden Mountain Temple to the rooftop of Wat Saket!

And of course, we also headed to the very, very popular Chatuchak Weekend Market.

Recognized as the world’s largest weekend market, I made sure we didn’t give this a miss! wink

5. Chatuchak Weekend Market

Getting there was difficult as there were hoards and hoards of people; even spilling out to the main roads!

Speaking of shopping at Chatchak Weekend Market, here’s an agonizing story I’d like to share.

surpriseKonzy and I completely ran out of cash on our final two days in Bangkoksurprise

Why? Here’s the problem. We didn’t want to over-exchange our money neither did we want to under-exchange so we exchanged what we estimated would be enough for a week in Thailand for the both of us.

Evidently, we were wrong.. as we didn’t change enough local currency!crying

Silly us didn’t think of bringing extra Ringgits along and neither did we bring our ATM cards.

We just went with all the Thai baht we thought would suffice – well it did, until our last two days. Bah.

Blame it on the innumerable massages we went for per day, everyday!

Our last two days in Bangkok were so tough! cryingcrying

Not only were we limited in our options on what to do and where to go, as most of the activities we wanted to do only accepted cash, we were strapped for cash in hand and lived like a pauper with the meagre Thai Baht we had remaining.

Chatuchak Weekend Market obviously, only accepted cash!

On the final day, I could no longer take not enjoying our holiday the way we should, so I did what I had to do to enjoy our last day to the maximum.

I used to my credit card to cash out Thai baht from my hotel.

That was the only way we could have access to any Thai baht! Thank goodness for credit cards.

WIth the help of my credit card, I was able to *finally* have the local currency that we needed so badly. Needless to say, we had a fantastic time in Chatuchak street-marketplace. laugh

I got to buy a lot of bikinis!

I got to have my favorite homemade, coconut ice cream!

I was a happy girl that afternoon. Yum!

Some gadgets that Konzy got to buy!

I got myself a manicure!

I think we bought something from this cowboy-inspired store. A hat, perhaps?

He played a song for us! With cash-in-hand now, we managed to spare him some loose change as a tip too!

I got to buy some cute souvenirs for my buddies back home (and one for myself!).

I got to eat street food just before we left to the airport!

Watching as he makes my Siamese egg-pancake delicacy.

It was cool how he cooked and rolled them all so swiftly!

What’s Asia without its street food, eh? laugh

Clearly, having a credit card was so useful in our sticky situation and I was thankful that I owned a one. I had no idea my credit card would be used to “rescue” me in emergencies like this! yes

On other days and non-emergency situations, like using my credit card for my daily expenditure, I even get rewards, cashback and privileges by spending with my credit card! Such a bang for a buck, no?

At least, you’re getting lots of things out of it when you swipe or spend with your credit card.

Though I’m not much of a fan of credit cards, with the right discipline in money matters, owning a credit card gave me all the convenience I needed.

Half of my shopping haul from Thailand! And I paid all of them by cash on the last day. Phew!

The golden question. Now, which credit card suits your lifestyle best?

Trust me, there are gazillions out there offering so many different perks! I used to be spoilt for choice wondering which credit card would benefit me the most and at times when I didn’t want to resort to asking annoying credit card salesmen for opinions, I had about ten different tabs open on my internet browser trying to compare the credit cards offered by different banks.

Thankfully, I was recently introduced to a really useful site to help me find out the answers I need!

Enter: www.iMoney.my

Use iMoney to find out which credit card best befits the nature of your spending and lifestyle, expenditure-wise.

It gathers information across the web which then allows you to know your options and compare them before you spend your money.

Ergo, you get to see things from a broader perspective! With iMoney, you get to compare and contrast all credit cards so you are much wiser in picking the best one for yourself.

This way, you will know exactly what you will be in for when you apply for a credit card.

iMoney does all the work in giving you a wide overview on what’s available and presents an objective comparison between all your plausible options.

Why didn’t anybody tell me this earlier? angryangry

Hope it helps you just as much as it did me. wink

Before I go, always remember to spend less, save more, and don’t get ripped off!

Will continue blogging about my Thailand holiweek trip soon! heart

Rocking the runway with punk and never-seen-before Avant-garde fashion! Amazing 34 Hair Party by A Cut Above @ Mid Valley Megamall KL

May 3, 2013 by thejessicat

It was a night of never-seen-before fashion taken to jaw-dropping wonder and extreme measures.

I gladly accepted the invitation when I received Winnie’s text message one evening. It is my utmost pleasure to be at another one of her marvellous events!

Brought my other half to the party with me.

Celebrating over three decades (34 years, to be exact!) of prominence in the hair industry, A Cut Above threw an out of this world hair X fashion show in conjunction with Mid Valley Megamall Fashion Week 2013.

The party was aptly named Amazing 34.

She told me that it was going to be an avant-garde and punk inspired evening. So being me, I stuck to the theme as closely as possible. smiley

Just a little snippet of what I wore (I know my manicure should be black instead of red though!)

Here is my top-to-toe lookbook for the event. I decided to adopt a glam-rock look tonight.

Jessicat wears:

Leopard print corset by Supre | Asymmetrical skirt from a fashion bazaar |

Acessories by Diva | Studded wedges by Vincci+ | Knuckle ring clutch by Nose

We got there just in time! cool

The host for the evening, Chui Ling, had just started to give us guests a warm welcome.

Chui Ling looking classy on stage

She then called upon Winnie, founder of A Cut Above Group, to join her on stage to make an appearance.

I was so glad to see her out and about already and making a seemingly good recovery progress (from her recent car injuries). Her speech was short and sweet – as always. smiley

Looking fine as ever, Winnie thanked us guests for being here tonight and

promised that we will be wowed by what we were about to see.

And oh yes, I believe her! laugh

I was excited and rushed to the front of the stage

(with my significant other in tow!) to get the best view.

Tonight featured three distinct themes: punk, edgy runway trends with a twist, and the avant-garde.

Let’s take a look at the first one, shall we? PUNK – here we go! cool

Local band An Honest Mistake looking mighty punk-ish tonight!

They rocked their original tracks including their latest ‘Giddy Up Horsie, This Chase Ain’t Waiting for You’

I almost couldn’t recognize buddy Leonard, as I’ve never seen him looking like that before blush

And with the blue mohawk (wig) hairdo? It goes pretty well on him!

Darren and Leonard rocking the stage on electric guitars!

I’ve always been a fan of punk, alternative rock and easycore music since high school.

Had fun headbanging with them with the crowd! laugh

While they were performing, a bevy of models began to sashay down the stage showcasing trendy runway coordinates with an edgy twist and attitude to boot! How often would you see a band playing their songs with a fashion show happening in unison?

Yup, definitely not the typical hair/fashion show you would expect.yes

—————————————–

Oh and if stylish pieces and latest outfits are your thing, do check out www.enni.net.au.

It’s a online apparel store based in Australia. Yup, that’s your doman of fashion right there! Wink

—————————————–

This was one of my favorites! On top of the very unique make-up and silvery mohawk, I

totally love her spiked bralet, the studded leather jacket and the grafitti-print pants heart

Awesome combination of dangling chains, paper-frills and blue ringlets in her hair

Another hair-raising glam punk fashion in view! Quite literally too.

With a red-black mohawk, this model featured heavily tattooed arms,

a neon coloured mesh strapped in belts and black liquid leggings with fishnet stockings

Watch the short video we made

Once that was over and done with, a series of avant-garde collection stole the limelight the moment models adorned in experimental fashion strutted the catwalk. laugh

I managed to shoot each and every style paraded on the runway. Let’s have a look at them, shall we?

This reminded me of a prison inspired uniform with a cushioned overcoat!

A giant velvet bow adorned his collar. His lips were of powdery white, and so was his hair.

This model showcased a side-shaven buzzcut with shimmery silver and black coordinate

(I used to sport this hairstyle too, but in red!)

 Bold and stylishly edgy.

I’ve seen some fashionistas donning this look lately!

This model portrayed a very metro-modern look with

side-combed hair and sci-fi inspired glasses

This model had a dual coloured trojan-mohawk.

Brown on his left and bright red when he turned to reveal his right!

He was draped in brown and black fur, fish net sleeves with marble designs on his tightpants

This model (with an impressive physique no less!) came out in a skin-tight spandex outfit,

long flowing “hair” and looking like a dangerous cross betwen Darth Vader X skull face.

I honestly don’t know how he can see while catwalking!

This model featured a semi-formal look with a daring twist. Huge ruffles of black frills

adorned his shoulder and netting were binded around his legs

Covered fully in a black cloak, the blonde dip-dyed mohawk

stood out boldly from this look

Can anyone say Avatar with a warm, bronze twist? These ‘conjoined twins’ walked

with an aura of Red Indian braves, the kind that would instil fear and respect from their tribe

In her very high platforms and metallic silver outfit, this model walked precariously

on stage and I even held my breath with every step she took!

Mysterious and clandestine, this model walked up slowly but steadily on stage

dressed fully in shiny black and large circular tubes in tow

Adapting science fiction fantasy into fashion, this outer space-like model

catwalked on the runway on stilts and threw a few stunts too!

Doesn’t this look like a giant optical illusion? devil

The final performance was a very dainty and sophisticated one.

It was interesting to see how ballet and hair were fused together.

While ballet dancing, this nimble and quick artist transformed her white hair almost entirely to red!

Amazing 34 was indeed a visually arresting showcase of both radical hair and fashion works of art.

I was wowed over completely. It may have taken only a few minutes for each model to exhibit each fashion statement, but the amount of effort, designing and styling by the creative minds at work behind everything we saw tonight certainly deserved a standing ovation.yes

It is with such creativity and innovation in the hair and fashion industry that commanded a

humongous crowd witnessing the unique display at Amazing 34 that night.

Just when you thought the show was over, A Cut Above had another surprise in store for us all.

The larger-than-life sized red centrepiece which we all thought was just a prop started to move about.

And the final model of the evening emerged!

Everyone, myself included, was startled but pleasantly surprised! laugh

She reminded me of Queen ‘Padme’ Amidala from Star Wars.

Although appearing mildly menacing, her moves were graceful, and her gestures, elegant.

Check out the runway video we made featuring the avant-garde collection

This wasn’t in the day’s agenda, but looks like the surprise element came from someone else this time.

Guess who decided to surprise our dear Winnie instead?

Her adorable god daughter Crystal Lee crooning Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb’ and Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’ to all of us

My favorite part was when she rapped. Although I’ve heard her sing this song many times,

I can never get enough of listening to her rap that verse

Winnie giving her speech of gratitude for a successful night.

It’s always beautiful to see the mother-daughter love between them; so sweet and moving! heart

The event came to a closure with the fashion designers and stylists making their way on stage.

A thunderous applause followed thereafter, for without the entire creative team behind this brainchild, we would not be able to even catch a glimpse of such challenging and meticulously-crafted masterpieces of fashion! yes

Winnie was extremely busy buzzing about everywhere but I managed to catch her after the show!

She still looked so gorgeous and glowing even by the end of the day. surprise

I would be so stressed, frazzled and sweating buckets if I was the one hosting a show as huge as this!

Back to back with my favorite hair personality of all time, Winnie! heart

Thank you for a wonderful Tuesday night of a spectacular, out-of-this-world fashion and hair party.

A Cut Above never fails to impact their guests with of the most eye-catching and trend-setting that ever existed.

With the beau, who was my date for this exclusive event

With Edmund of A Cut Above. Thank you too, for the invite!

I’ve known him for a while too, Ed’s such a nice and patient person to deal with

Ohai! Bumped into Josh and Olivia at the party too.

We were standing beside each other during this entire time and I didn’t even realize till after!

With sweet and stunning Amber after the show

We have a funny story. Also, I cannot count the number of times Paul and I

bump into each other whenever we shoot events. Expect a collabo soon! wink

Ben and I catching up. It’s been a while! Also, he coaches amazing

catwalks by the way, thus hailing him as the catwalk guru! wink

Winnie with the creative team gathering on stage for a final appearance

To me, this party was more than just a celebration of 34 years of excellence. It was no doubt, a hallmark and pinnacle of modernism in the domain of fashion and hair. yes

Breaching boundaries and departing from practical guidelines of fashion as well as society’s usual expectations of style and appearance, tonight was hands down, a cut above the rest of all the other fashion week events I’ve attended this year!

Kudos to the mastermind of the entire concept behind A Cut Above’s Amazing 34!

You’ve outdone yourself again, Winnie dear yes

One more thing, most of you always ask me where I usually get my hair done.

I have only one answer – where else but A Cut Above? wink

Out of all the hair salons that I’ve tried, I only recommend and trust A Cut Above to give you only the best of anything hair-related. From hair cuts,  hair treatments, to hair makeovers or anything at all, rest assured it’s handled by the experts!

June 26, 2012 by thejessicat

Being the shopaholic I am, I'm always on the prowl to sniff out good shopping buys and bargains.

Some time back, I chanced upon this online retailer-marketplace-community driven website which has that and so much more!

FRIENDLYFASHION.MY

The name speaks for itself, this online marketplace really IS friendly! :D

You sell, swap or give away your preloved clothes, shoes, accessories and make friends with similar fashionistas & shopaholics in the community as well!

When you enter their website, this is what you will see before you begin your shopping spree!

So much awesome stuff on sale! :D:D

To see more, you can sign up to be a member by creating an account.

For me, I took the easy way and signed in via Facebook 🙂 No hassle!

I've added these to my 'favorites' list before I make my final decision!

Can you guess which 3 items I made mine? 😀

The purchasing process was easy peasy lemon squeezy!

All you have to do is click on the item you want and hit the 'I WANT IT!' button and you will be taken to the page where you can send a message the owner of the item.

Just tell her/him that you want it and if it's still available, you can be sure it'll be yours 😀

My experience with them was a very prompt response towards my queries and a smooth, fast transaction.

In less than a week, Mr. Postman rang my doorbell and I received 3 parcels!

I came back inside all excited! Can't wait to open 'em.

And thank you buddy Pammy for helping me take photos of me unwrapping the parcels 😀

Who doesn't love presents? 😀

Now, let's check out parcel #1:

A sheer, rock n' roll skull-motif sleeveless tee from Topshop!

Unboxing!

Love it!

Wore it yesterday on a dinner date and shopping sesh with theboyfriend at Paradigm Mall!

Putting on my rockstar face for the day 😛 😛

Yeah, I had a haircut. Don't ask.

Shall blog about my nightmarish hair experience soon!

Now, let's check out parcel #2:

A fuschia heart-shaped pair of sunglasses!

Unwrapping….

Unboxing…..

Yay! How'd you like it? 😀

It's absolutely gorgeous… I love it heaps. So chic!

The journey towards Straits Quay in Penang to attend Hennessy Artistry Penang 2012 was rather sunny.

So… what could be better than wearing your newest, funky pair of shades? 😉

They match my hair in some ways too 😀 😀

Now, let's check out parcel #3:

A multi-coloured leopard short dress/long top!

Unwrapping….

Oooh wow! A lovely thank you note too 😀

I wore it during the press conference I attended in Penang

Although it was more of a summer beach colourful dress kinda thing, all I had to do to give it a corporate-trendy look was to slap on a chic blazer, pair it with a dark grey denim & a matching pair of kicks.

Lovin' the get-up!

Those are only 3 items out of the amount of items the peeps on FriendlyFashion has got to offer!

How about you boys who keep whining about how there are so many online blogshops selling girls clothing/shoes/accessories but not mens? Well look no further, FriendlyFashion has a category for guys too.

Watch out, lads! I will be selling off an entire suitcase full of mens

clothing & accessories there soon!

So you know what to do. JOM let's go shopping on a great budget $$$$$$$$

All the other kids with their pumped up kicks! Ya better run, better run, outrun my gun!

November 30, 2011 by thejessicat

Like many of my fellow girls, I love my high heels.

Sky high, if I may add. The sexier, the higher, the better.

However, as I am blessed to stand at a height of 1.70m, (5 feet 7 inches), I don't usually wear high heels as I despise sticking out like a sore thumb amongst my Asian friends.

If you didn't already know, Asians, in general, aren't really known for their height or stature.

For Asian guys, if you manage to hit 1.75m, you are already considered lucky to be "tall"

For Asian girls, if you hit 1.65m, you are considered "tall" as well.

So more often than not, my high heel collection are put aside just to sit there and look pretty.

Which is why I need my pumped-up kicks for all occasions.

Now, who's got some sexy pair of kicks on yo? 😀 😀

My gurls and I were at the Royal Sporting House mega sale just the other day and we sure know how to rock ourselves some wicked pair of kicks.

And I meant that in plural form; we left with 9 pairs altogether – which you shall be seeing soon.

Us girls with our matching neon pink kicks!

Best part is, check out the rainbow-neaths!

You don't see everyday sneakers like these hey

Slap on more neon stuff and let's get ready to rock Barsonic babeh!

Okay last photo of the same variant, I promise haha! 😛

Pam & I

She bought 4 sneakers while I bought 3 sneakers + 2 trucker caps

WANNA SEE OUR STASH AT HOME?? 🙂

Get ready…

Wait for it……….

Ta-daa! We'd be rockin' the awesome kicks, you bet!

Okay, lemme show you a close up of each of the ones that belong to me

Firstly, here's my stash 🙂

1. Puma cap in neon yellow

……and my babyChivas sitting prettily

2. Adidas trucker cap in neon green

(try to ignore those awesome blue kicks first!)

2

3. Adidas mesh sneakers in neon yellow-green

I wear this to gym everyday!

4. Ermmm………….. excuse me, kitteh

I know it's too striking that even my cat can't get enough of it

4. My favorite pair of Nike kicks in neon pink with rainbow-neaths

Yup, kick-ass without a doubt

5. Nike ghetto kicks in blue

TBH, I was never a fan of blue. Don't know what got into me. I guess this pair was too irresistible too!

This girl loves her new pairs of kicks!

Well, today marks another extra 3 to add to the collection of my sneaker-family

Apart from us girls, housie Darryl also bought himself a new pair of footwear!

It's this durable, ironman, boots of steel LOL

His new pair of CAT…. with my cat beside it.

So…. would the REAL cat please stand up?

For casual Sundays or during weekday blues, you'd see me kicking back with these sneakers.

I demand a rest from my skyhigh heels!

After all, a girl could always do with her fave pair of pumped up kicks
