Weekend with a mysterious device – REVEALED! Say hello to my Nokia Lumia 925.

September 20, 2013 by thejessicat

Remember my weekend spent in darkness?

It was spent in the city after sunset, going to a dimly lit massage & spa centre, eating out late at night, partying at Zouk Club KL. Blog post: here

As expected, I would always never get decent photos of my nightlife with just my mobile phone… but that weekend was different. With my new sidekick, I managed to snap awesome photos to remember my weekend!

Did you manage to guess what new gadget that was?

If you didn’t… allow me to reveal its identity.
Drumroll please.

Say hello to the very special, tiny yet mighty gadget, the: NOKIA LUMIA 9

Yup, this is Nokia’s latest smart phone.
One that prides itself on its low-light photography abilities!

I’ve been with my new Nokia Lumia 925 for more than a month now and I must say I am truly impressed with it.
No matter how much technology has advanced, no matter how many gadget brands come up with crazier and crazier mobile phones and no matter which smartphone is the mainstream favorite now, truth is, I’ll always be a Nokia girl at heart.

Getting a little nostalgic here, but my very first cellphone was a Nokia.
It was the legendary, invincible, meme-popular and crabshell opener (LOL) phone:

NOKIA 3310

After that phone served me for a good few years in primary school, I moved on to something cooler – the Nokia 3315. Then, when everyone at school had coloured screens and polyphonic ringtones which were all the rage back then (Gosh I feel old now), my parents got me the Nokia 3100 – in light pink!

Someone then stole it from me in a shopping mall and I was so heartbroken.

My godmum came to my rescue and since I loved Nokia so much, she bought me the Nokia 3220.

That, to my best memory was really cool! The sides would light up and glow in the dark whenever my phone rang!

My then-boyfriend had a Nokia too; it was the Nokia N-Gage. We spent lotsa time playing music and mobile gaming on his phone! It was top notch in the market for its sound system too at the time.

In college and university, I was bitten by the smartphone bug and switched sides after winning one in a contest.
Who would have known 12 years down the road after my first love Nokia, I would be proudly using a Nokia once more?

I was smitten all over again, I tell ya.

At a glance, the Nokia Lumia 925 has a very pretty display and looks amazingly slim, sleek and stylish.

I loved it smooth metal finish and shiny silver body. The look and feel was just spectacular.

You really should hold one for yourself and feel the difference.

In terms of user experience, its display was sharp, crisp and sported bright and strong colours.

The transition from page to page was smooth and I found myself switching between screens and apps flawlessly.

I use a Windows 8 computer so I was practically soaring through the Nokia Lumia 925 like a breeze.

Everything, including the apps and icons on the homepage are all customizable too!

On to its ground-breaking, jaw-dropping camera capabilities.
Here are some very fascinating facts about Nokia’s camera smartphone capabilities.

It is of no surprise that the Nokia Lumia 925’s wondrous camera can take such captivating photos, especially at night as it has 6 physical lenses and uses Carl Zeiss optics!

In fact, I actually took two photos at the exact same moment and exact same place with: my own smartphone V/S the Nokia Lumia 925 just to compare the two images taken and I was shocked at the difference!
Take a look:

Photo takenwith my own smartphone

(pretty obvious which phone, eh? Clue: you probably have the same phone)

V/S

Photo taken with the Nokia Lumia 925.

Unbelievable, right? No editing done on both photos btw!

How does Nokia Malaysia’s cover photo look? Nice? 😛

It came as a surprise when my friends informed me that two of my photos taken with the Nokia Lumia 925 ended up featured as the cover photo for Nokia Malaysia’s official Facebook page! Squeeee!

Here they are. Thanks for the shout out Nokia!

I guess it really shows how gorgeous the photos taken from the Nokia Lumia 925 can turn out to be!

I’m trying in vain to be subtle here LOL but take a look at this comparison.

Check out this ad which speaks for itself.
I myself own both these phones and I can totally vouch for this.

And don’t get me started on the built-in photo editing apps that comes with it!
It was so much fun playing and experimenting with its revolutionary camera.

I loved how the Nokia Lumia 925 can instantly snap photos with just a tap on the screen too.

That way, it auto-focuses on the tapped spot and brightens & illuminates the photograph sans the grainy noise.
The result? A much clearer and brighter image even under terrible, dim lighting!
I wonder how they come up with such a technology.

With a camera like that on my mobile phone, I wouldn’t need to lug  my heavy camera anymore, eh? 😉

Check out this very interesting and informational video to see how the
Nokia Lumia 925’s camera works and its camera user interface.

Check out some of the other types of photos that I’ve snapped with my Nokia Lumia 925 on very, very dim lighting.

From self-shots, to indoor ones, to food and many more!

More amazing low-light photography I’ve snapped with the Nokia Lumia 925 in my previous blog post: here.

Many of you have been telling me that the only setback of using a Nokia is that you would have to say goodbye to Instagram, as Nokia’s operating system, Windows 8, did not have an app for it.
But guess what?

Windows 8 has just launched its official Instagram client app, 6tag!

Admittedly, I was out of touch for a while. But not only did Nokia’s incredulous progress and change impress me by tenfold, its interface, features and capabilities made me swoon.

Its user-friendliness and remarkable battery life, however,

remained the same – just as I fondly remembered it.

I also used the Nokia Lumia 925 a lot for browsing. The loading time was short and the pages, images and text rendered very smoothly. I did not experience any lag.
Calling and texting was a piece of cake too – the clarity and reception were excellent.
In terms of media playback, like its sound, music and videos, I was very happy with the quality both with and without earphones.

For my tech-savvy readers out there, here are the specifications:

I am so ecstatic to be finally using a non-mainstream phone once again.

One that I daresay is probably better and kicks ass harder than all the other smartphones out there.

Oh by the way, it also charges wirelessly. That’s right, no more messy, tangled wires! Heaven just heard my plea 😉

Can your mobile phone do that?

Overall, it’s powerful, vibrant and smooth on the inside and extremely light and classy on the outside.

For a girl very particular with gadget aesthetics like I am, this Nokia Lumia 925 is certainly more than just a pretty boy that blew me away.

I think I’ve just fallen in love all over again.

Dare you fall sick? EMERGENCY : Dirty Doctors vs Naughty Nurses are operatin’ tonight!

September 23, 2011 by thejessicat

To be honest, I've always been afraid of hospitals, doctors and nurses or any medical procedures.

Always had been since I was a kid.

Looks like I'm living within the shadows of my fear now

Rocking the operating table with a nurse outfit!

Wootwoot 🙂

LOL which nurse wears Converse?

I do. CBF to wear heels; want to dance and shuffle!

My date for the night; none other than le boyfie the evil doctor

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away….

I'd say bring on the apples!

Doctor, would you increase my dosage? Hellyeah

We're out for a brutal operation tonight

My mates and I got ready for the party & camwhored!

Fancy an extra injection of energy, Nurse Kayla? 😀

Yupyup, syringes aplenty! One more injection for Dr. Bardha coming right up!

Injected Military Nurse Deanna's neck till she bled 😛

Naughty, deadly nurses on the loose!

Are we ready to roll, my hot doctor? 😀 😀

As usual, we busted out the drinks and began our pre-party!

Let's get it on!

^_____^ Let it roll!

Broken arm Todd and I 😀

And yes if you're wondering, I always drink straight from the bottle. None of that soft-drink mixer bullshit for me.

To me, if I wanna savour real whiskey, bourbon, liqueur or vodka, I'd rather do it pure.

Bacardi shots with Dr. Greg & Dr. Johnny 😀

I'm getting overdosed by my mates!  Love them heaps

Nurse Olivia X Nurse Jessicat

Drink up, guys! 😀

Guess who got the King's Cup???? Muahahah. You're gonna get smashed tonight, Mossy.

Ohyuck. The mixture from all our drinks made this vile, curdled looking drink

Nurse Laura X Nurse Jessicat

My stethoscope: I can feel your heartbeat now

Matching shoes with  GP Clayton LOL

Nurse Britt X Nurse Jessicat

OMNOMNOMNOM

SMILE!

Coming back HOME to Australia was worth it 🙂

They are worth it.

And even more worthwhile, back in his arms.

LOL I love how our kitchen counter is scattered with ours & everyone else's booze. Wicked!

Naughty, deadly Nurses are out to get you!

Better dead now before we operate on you, I reckon.

Already massively wrecked, it's time to hit the party to get even more smashed & hit the dance floor!

Extra dosages of  mad fun please? 🙂

By the bar

Nurse Jessicat X Nurse Paige

My sexy doctor Kon and I

Guess who spun for us that night? 😀 😀

It's Dr. Rowan! Yay! All the best for your DJ gig

Wootwoot! I  psychedelic colours!

Take me to the Intensive Care Unit please?

Candid photo!

Love is definitely something you can overdose and die happy from :D

Nurse Jessicat X Dr. Bardha

Outside on the decks, more funtimes!

Btw, neither Kayla nor I remember the photo on the bottom left.

But both our boyfriends were like – "THAT'S HOT!" hahahahahaha!

Wonder when will we see them smooching each other? 😛 Not in a million years, methinks!

More drinks for the night!

Music was blasting and pumping so hard. Absolutely fab

Bumped into Nurse Alia in the Ladies'

These are certainly nurses you wouldn't wanna mess with! 😀

Dr. Johnnie X Nurse Jessicat.

ZOMG HE'S SO TALL. Over 6 feet in height – cool as!

Dr. Ian X Nurse Jessicat

I love how similar and cute our Nurse costumes are 😀

Josh and I 🙂 With every party, we never fail to take piccies together!

Hmm…. this looks like the beginning of a lesbian X-Rated movie

*shrugs* Whatever 🙂

Clearly, I'm as straight as ever. No doubt about that

We all got home smashed with memories of fun, wacky, wild times and a hangover the next morning.

But as for me, I came home with a semi-broken foot. Couldn't walk for a few days.

But don't worry, ima tough cookie.  Am still kicking!

When I party, I escalate it to full scale – cos that's how it ought to be! But gawd knows how that happened.

Only photos remind us of our silly, drunk, party shenanigans the night before

Yet another amazing night with you. As always.

Full moon close up shots from Victoria, Australia | Boom boom boom! Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon!

April 19, 2011 by thejessicat

Okay, I know I promised for the full post on the Fancy Dress party but hey, there was a glorious full moon tonight and I couldn't help unleashing my arsenal of camera gear to start shooting it.

Don't worry, all the fancy dress photos have been collaged and batch edited – ready to go! (it's currently halfway written and saved in my blogpost draft at the mo)

Shot at 1925 HRS

It's funny how the sun begins to set at 5.45pm here in Australia, as compared to how it sets at about 7.30pm in Malaysia. Talk about a huge difference!

Goodness gracious, by 6pm the sky is already dark here!

But the moon only begins to appear at approximately 6.30pm

So yes, the moon. Remember how there was so much buzz on the Supermoon roughly 3 weeks ago?

Supposedly a rare occasion where the moon is at its closest point to the earth?

Well, BIG DEAL. *rolls eyes*

To be honest, all I saw was a round full moon that night. Just like any other moon on any full moon night.

But tonight, it was beautiful and huge.

So off I set out from my rez carrying nothing but my camera and a few lenses

I was crawling all over the floor and climbing rooftops just to get the shots I wanted.

Few of the people on rez gave me weird looks and thought I was a drunkard trying to break into houses LOL

As you can see, the clouds were being a bit of a b!tch so I waited and waited

And when the sun has COMPLETELY set on the opposite end of the horizon, all was still, silent and pitch black in the sky.

Finally, my wait is over. Now, let's shoot the moon!

Now, that's more like it.

I shot this one whilst on top of South 8's rooftop.

Don't ask me how I got up there, I just did. Well, blame the extra dosage of hyperactivity.

Shot this on top of a tree branch

Again, don't ask me how I got up there.

I was scratched on the arm in the process. Sigh.

The great lengths photohunters go to just to get their perfect shot.

This was shot while I was lying flat on the grass

I know they all probably look similar to you, but notice the difference in colour and positioning.

Ahh well, I loved how the moon looks tonight. Opalescent, romantic and a tad eerie.

Just the way I like it.

Don't mind me. I have a solid excuse 😛

I was waiting for the moon to peek from those annoying stratus clouds

It took me slightly over an hour to get all my shots together. Heck, it was very windy so all the clouds just kept coming in the way! Oh, bother

But hey, it's all good. I got home safe and sound in the dead of the night… with slightly numb ears and fingertips because the idea of putting on a jacket didn't quite occur to me in the midst of my hype to go mooning.

Silly me!

Hear me ROAAARRRR! Party animals gettin’ down vicious and wild at Jungle Night!

April 4, 2011 by thejessicat

Rawr!!!! So yeah, I know it has been a few days since my last update.

Had been so occupied, you have no idea!

Lotsa things happen and everyday is likened to unfurling, pleasant dreams and memories

But for today, I wanna share the pictures I shot from the Jungle Party which I attended with my mates!

Ya ready to get down wild and vicious animal style? 😀 😀

So we were all getting ready for the event, dressing up, making up, putting on props and taking pictures!

Managed to only take 2 piccies before the party – as everyone else were still busy dolling up

Deanna aka lioness and I

Clayton aka Tarzan and I 😀

Again, it was a rainy and cold night this time.

So off we went in Clayton's car and zoomed off to the party!

Laura aka WWF Panda and I!

The jungle trekkers Josh (and his friend) and I!

It was awesome fun throughout the night.

A different version of a masquerade party, if I do say so myself. Cos so many peeps came in full-fledged make up and masks that it's honestly difficult to recognize who it was!

Check it out :

Who's behind the mask? 😛

2 TIGERS VS. 1 LEOPARD SHOWDOWN!

Leopard vs tiger showdown!

Also, I freakin' love how the culture here in Australia is conditioned in a way that everybody rocks up ACCORDING TO THE THEME of any parties instead of being a spoilsport and not dressing up nor looking the part at all.

Yeah well, back home in Malaysia, only the party heads dress up while the rest doesn't give two hoots to even party along with the theme.

A zebra, leopard and tiger on the loose!

Jungle natives and I!

Here's a piccie with me and my gurls 😀

LOL see the sniper in the bush drinking a can of Smirnoff ahahahaha

Boomboombooom!

Environmentalists going green!? 😀 😀 hahaha

See that creepy guy in the background lolol

Say helloooo to my awesome housie, Milly! 😀

She's looking so fine in her leopard top

One of my best buddies here, Verity the leopard! 😀

Rawrrrr!

More leopard gurls in the house!

OMG SUPER CUTE! Bumped into Laura aka Dora the Explorer!!!

Loves!

With Jade… also a fellow leopard tonight 😀

Rawrrrr

Now this, I swear, is something I will never dare to wear!

It's a really hawt one-piece suit … she has guts 😉

Now, with so many jungle animals around, who's there to catch 'em all?

ASH KETCHUM WITH HIS POKEBALLS OF COURSE!

Gotta catch 'em all

I'm not sure what Jack Gamble is tonight, but my 2 cents tells me it's either a bee or a baby tigga.

But then again bees don't have ears. So, bright yellow baby tigga it is! 😀

snake! For a change, snake skin girl!

Oh and, remind me (and yourself, if you ever go to a Jungle-themed party) to never wear leopard prints.

Because for chrissakes, you'll see like 60% of people rocking up in that and you wouldn't wanna be just another common face in the crowd!

Or unless you do 🙂

See Vanessa's epic make up!

Melikey 😀 😀 Whiskers and look at the nose too!

Here's looking at you!

Blurry piccie but yeah, Abraham the bush and I! 🙂

With Danny the….. Mexican lost soul in the jungle LOLOL

So like all the parties we go too, we let loose, dance the night away and get ourselves so smashed that it's epic!

Phew I had lotsa tequila and vodka shots on this night that by the end of the party, I was getting a tad woozy 🙁

Thankfully, Deanna walked me home though 😀

thanks gurl! xx

Wokay! That's all for tonight.

More updates soon. Also, my apologies to certain prudes if the dress I'm wearing is a little revealing though.

After all, that's how we roll – getting down wild at jungle party! RAWWWRRR!

Look ma, I’m sitting on the grass! | Monash International Exchange student orientation week

March 26, 2011 by thejessicat

Okay this post was actually scheduled to be up 3 weeks ago!

But for some reason, it decided to go bonkers. So just imagine you are reading this like waaaayyyy before today.

You know how advertisements about universities always try to depict some form of "excellence" or "condusive study environment" and the like?

The usual pin-ups of students posing all-so-serious in the library, in the science lab or on the grass?

Looks like they weren't kidding.

Because here in Australia, it really is a real-life scenario

In Malaysia, to be honest, no one sits on the grass to study or even hang out.

Probably there will be a handful of white people doing so occasionally. But apart from that, people usually keep off our grass.

Not that there's anything wrong with our grass or that it is layered with pesticide or something.

It's just not our culture to sit on the grass – I presume. Most of us would just hang out at the uni cafe, uni lounge or even the library.

May the people who never had their asses on university grass before,

come sit and pose for an obligatory photo

Look ma, I'm sitting on the grass!

The university grass!

I gotta admit, we find it pretty queer to do that when there are plenty of vacant seats around.

But as they say – when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Australia, in this case.

During orientation break. Meet my new friend, Anne from Germany.

I can't pronounce her last name so just 'Anne' will do for now 🙂

Fellow Malaysians on exchange!

We were treated to a hot pancake breakfast, giant muffins and hot chocolate/coffee.

Hmm.. anything to make us feel welcome I guess? 🙂

At night, we all headed to the glorious Queen Victoria Market.

We were pretty lucky as it was summer when we arrived.

I hear that there was a night festival of food, culture and music ONLY during the summer nights.

It reminded of our 'pasar malam' back in Malaysia.

Our night markets often comprise food and cheap shopping

Here we are inside the night market!

Fellow exchange students from Malaysia, Canada, Germany and local Ozzies

I loved what I saw.

There were international food all over the place and so many things to buy!

Some form of Mediterranean food

A rather icky pig head on display.

If I didn't love meat so much, I'd turn vegan the moment I saw this photo

Okay here's a cute picture to erase any recollection of the pig head.

MUPPETS ON SALE!!! AWWWWWWWWW

Apart from eating and shopping, we even sampled Yellow Tail wine!

Yup, there was a free tasting session. And I must say, it's pretty damn good.

There were many flavours, but I loved 3 of it only.

They are Moscato, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir

ommmnomnom wine.

The very next day!!

A short city tour – of which I have already explored in this post. Remember? 🙂

Excited exchange students from all over the world

Made some new friends, Lisa and Adam

Went to Federation Square and walked down some steps which I never knew existed beforehand!

Down down down to a scenic riverside bar.

Yarra River!

And the off to Chinatown for dinner!

Was pretty strange that I came all the way to Australia – to eat Asian food.

But hey, there were heaps!!

In most parts of the city or even suburbs like Glen Waverly or Boxhill, there are Asian food aplenty.

But when I'm here, I tend to avoid Asian food like the plague because it would feel so silly to eat something which I can easily have back home in Malaysia for a huge fraction of the price!! Like, one plate of noodles here would cost me 15 $AUD = 45 Ringgit Malaysia when I could pay 5 Ringgit Malaysia for the exact same thing.

YOU TELL ME. MY WALLET PAIN… OR NOT?

After dinner, we chilled out at Emerald Peacock

It's a really pretty rooftop bar! 🙂

Now, if only the view wasn't blocked by so many high-rise buildings, it would be perfect.

With Lina. She bought me this drink! Ommnomnom

On my way back home. I bought a pie from PieFace for supper because I thought the waiter was cute as! And also because I was hungry duh

So! Orientation Week in Monash Clayton campus went pretty swell for the international students.

They made sure we are well-informed of the culture and how to get around town before we all seperated into our campuses.

Oh and… I'M SITTING ON THE GRASS!

(which reminds me, the last time I sat on the grass was when this photograph was taken)
