Sydney VLOG + Lunch at THE over-popularly famous Pancakes on the Rocks!

June 9, 2011 by thejessicat

I have loads of love for pancakes. Do you?

Back home in Malaysia, I used to go to Paddington's House of Pancakes every so often that the waiters automatically acknowledge me with each visit. I was hoping to eat pancakes whilst in Aussie but there aren't any close by.

So when I first came to Sydney, I've asked on Twitter where would anyone recommend me awesome places for food?

The answer was unanimous – Pancakes on the Rocks.

And so I did as I was told 😀

Thanks guys, for the recommendation!

Had some Iced Coffee with Ice Cream on top while we waited for our orders.

Seriously, when I said OVER-POPULARLY FAMOUS Pancakes on the Rocks, I meant it literally.

It was over-populated LOL

We had to queue all the way up the staircase and the line behind us kept growing!

Thankfully we were allowed to order while waiting – saves heaps of time!

As we came in a group of 4, we decided to share some dishes and have some of our own.

The first dish we ordered was ….

the traditional, famous pancake stack!

Served with maple syrup and ice-cream 😀 😀

We reckoned it wouldn't be enough, since it was too yummy!

So we ordered another stack –

Ommmnomnomnomnom

I know some people may not get what the big deal is on pancakes, as it's only made of flour, milk, eggs and other stuff.

But no, I've attempted making pancakes a few times and although it was edible, it took me a while to actually get ALL the ingredients in the right ratio to achieve that fluffy, soft & melt-in-your-mouth pancakes!

Really, it's no easy feat.

Here's what we ordered next –

Chicken and Bacon Gourmet Pancake Pizza!

Couzzie Ken and I shared it, but it proved too much for the both of us so Uncle Shen and Auntie Julie ended up having some too.

I haven't seen this before, Pancake Pizza? Now, that's something new to me.

Also, sundried tomatoes, marinated mushrooms, tomato salsa on a guacamole & mozzarella cheese base

What's not to love? 😀

Auntie Julie ordered some Macademia Madness!!!

It had a nutty twist to the regular pancake stacks… delish

Check out that nutty pancake! 😀

(A quarter eaten, I stopped her midway LOL)

The vanilla ice-cream complemented this combo well. Thumbs up!

Okay, my turn. Here's what I ordered, one of their famous savory pancakes –

the Monte Cristo!

Chicken with smoked ham and cheese, served on a bed of lettuce and topped with chili sour cream & shallots

It was soooo delicious I wanted to have another helping but was already full to the brim!

Can't take it any more even if I wanted to 🙁

Here's a short VLOG I made whilst in Sydney, enjoy watching the entire 1 minute of it –

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6l0ruW95hc

Wheeeeeeee *spins around*

If you missed it, here's the blog-episode on my visit to Sydney Opera House & Harbour Bridge!

So with our stuffed bellies and satiated appetites, we headed back to the car after a short stroll around The Rocks.

Here's a very amused me by the typical Western-looking red postbox!

Why don't we ever have one of these in Malaysia?

Just like Australia, we were colonized by the British too, so… where's our iconic red postbox? 🙁 🙁

Taking a good rest after a good meal

I love the flowerbed behind me! 🙂 🙂

Next up!

Kingsley's Steakhouse, Darling Harbour & Sydney's popular Star City casino (where I won triple my cash!) $$$ Now, who wants to take me for a spin on their next trip to the casino? Muahaha.

Weekend getaway in the middle of the sea: All aboard STAR Pisces cruise ship!

January 12, 2011 by thejessicat

I'm back from Bali with theboyfie! It was such a whirlwind 😀

Never knew so many things about the place before, and picked up some Indonesian slangs too!

Ohwell, always a new experience. Will blog about it soon!

Anyway, here's the story for today!

Remember this post? The sequel is finally here

Chilled out with thefockers at Esplanade 😀

Wanted to kill time as we were about 2 hours earlier before the estimated time of departure.

And that's SO TYPICAL of my family. They're always tip top round the clock early hmm..

Sat around the playground and open field to people watch

before we lugged our baggage up towards Swettenham Pier

Whilst walking there, I caught sight of our iconic clock tower just before the Jelutong Expressway.

Sometimes, I need to be reminded of how beautiful my hometown is, being away from it for too long. 😀

I use to take the 12 o' clock turn at this roundabout every morning back in college!

So after a 10 minute walk under the sweltering afternoon sun, we finally arrived the harbour.

And yes! Our cruise ship is in sight in the near distance

Picha with it! 😀 Fo shure

When I got inside the harbour, a surge of pleasantness arose within me.

Since when did our Swettenham pier turned into such an impressive state?

Newly painted walls, a renovated interior, impeccable cleanliness and new-improved facilities were just staring right back at me. Whoa!

After shutting up my hung-open jaw, I joined the rest checking into the cruise ship

We were getting nearer and nearer!

Can't wait to see what's in store for us inside. Here are some piccies as I was walking along the dock

So pretty! Let's just hope it boasts something similar inside, if not better! 😀

There wasn't much of a queue on the bridge when we arrived. Oh the perks of an early bird!

It's nice how sailors and crewmen would salute and wish this lil missy here an enjoyable cruise, flashing their best service-industry smiles. Ooohyay 😀 Sure I'll have fun.

1700HRS | Boarding boarding!

As I turned my back I was startled to see this

whoaaa. kid. do you really need that huge bolster for just  a one nighter? 😛

It's not a camp you know. LOL

Anyway, guess what was the 1st thing I saw upon entering the lobby!?

How smart. Using mascots to pique the interests of soft-toy maniacs like me 😀

And those of children too. ROFL

And and.. using framed blown-up photographs of very good looking ship engineers.

FILF anyone? hohoho

Beats Ikea's Swedish meatballs anytime. LOL i kid! 😛 😛

Walked up to the 7th deck where the rooms were.

If I ain't wrong, there were 14 decks altogether! Not all are rooms though, they've huge lounges and many entertainment spots

Like.. the *cough* casino *cough* *cough*

The rooms were pretty tiny but cosy all the same

Bunk beds! So old skool 😀

Not for the claustrophobic! Bwahahahaha 😀

After putting our luggage down and freshened up, we were all ushered to dinner.

The corridors and walkway to the dining area were pretty neat and brightly lit 🙂

I wanted to sit at one of these tables but thefockers insisted on sitting inside lol

1800HRS | Dinner!

Dinner was ala buffet style… but its variety and taste leaves a lot to be desired

I only found the decor and food plating (especially the dessert table) presentable enough to be pictured though

Not like I'm expecting anything near 5 Star but this will do for a rather bland and simple meal.

Back from running around taking pictures, I look like a frumpy housewife here I know.

Anyway, we had our family time over dinner and realized that our favorite thing served today was..

FRUITS. Ohyes, loved 'em pineapples! LOL

For after dinner digestion, thefockers took a short walk around the ship to explore its decks and found me by the huge glass window panes. I was admiring the view from the middle of the sea before the sun set.

That's Penang Bridge, farewell Penang! We've set sail 😀

Camwhored in many unimaginable places. The elevator, the bar, the engine, the balcony.. everywhere!

We then decided to venture upstairs to the highest deck!

It was so breezy up there I bet whoever had an open umbrella at that moment would probably have it windswept by now

Crikey. My pink bow almost flew off my head!

Tiny me!!

The sun was beginning to set

Cousin Shaun joined in my camwhore spree

Windier and windier!!

1930HRS | By the sunset with cousin Shaun and cousin Meng

Back in the rooms, we showered and got ourselves ready for the entertainment zones.

Oh and, most of us had difficulty with flushing the toilet.

Expose! 😛

When my uncle and cousins took so long in the bathroom, I asked out loud, "Bet you can't find where to flush ey?? HAHA".

And true enough, I was right! 😛 😛 😛 😛

Wasn't telling until they made me! The flush button was so tiny and hidden I couldn't spot it at 1st sight either.

Aight. Enough of bathroom bedtime stories.

Chillin fo a bit by the lounge over some dodgy gameshow

We left soon after we were done with our drinks

Walking towards Sunset boulevard where the casino was.

That's mom turning her back on me! (pun unintended)

Passed some convenience shops and souvenir outlets on the way but seriously, almost everything was exorbitantly priced.

But karaoke joints, massage parlours, cafes and restaurants were aplenty!

Outside waiting for gramps to buy her shawl

She bought one just like mine but in a shade of violet instead 😀

2200HRS | Casino de Cruise!

So we finally arrived the casino and to our surprise, it was rather huge!

They served hot Milo and coffee to all the stakeholders for the night, much like the casino in Genting Highlands. Once we hit international waters, the casino tables opened and tills of chips, cards and steel balls were running all night.

No photos allowed though. Oh, I won up to 250 bucks in Baccarat and Russian Roulette but lost them all back again. There there, this is where greed does not pay. If I would have left with my winnings, I'd be 250 bucks richer. Bummer! ;(

Felt bored after so many rounds so I went outside for a break.

Spotted the crewmembers fixing up the Christmas tree!

Yes I know it's January now and no, they were not lagging in their festivity awareness, if you were wondering. This cruise trip with thefockers was in late December 😛 Was too caught up with other blogposts to blog this one hehe

And there was another Christmas tree already up!

Now, this was really huge and filled up the entire middle pillar of the ship.

0000HRS | Did not bring my bikini 'cos I couldn't swim at that moment. Just had another new tattoo done few days before (will blog about this too!)

So I was really… really.. REALLY BORED.

Played in the casino for so long, had a few rounds at the arcade, explored almost the entire cruise ship, made friends with random people, took pictures, had some drinks by the bar and really, at 1 o' clock in the morning, there is really nothing to do on a ship, is there? 🙁 🙁

Whatever you do, don't tell me I should be sleeping.

So I walked around all alone to the upper deck again to enjoy the cool night breeze

It was pretty scary aboard a ship in the dead of the night all alone. But then again, it takes you out of the

hustle and bustle of city life and bring about a certain sense of tranquility for the moment.

Just my iPod and I. Nothing else kept me company except the stale moisture of air around me and the mild, salty smell of the sea surrounding me. It was pindrop silence and I could really fall asleep here on this deckchair.

Except I *thankfully* had my camera with me so I had fun taking pictures of random things, myself included.

0200HRS | I was assuming that the rest of thefockers were all asleep by now.

They're all early risers, so I bet they've gone to bed early as well.

But luckily, the couzzies found me chilling by myself on the deckchair!

They were feeling bored to death too so we headed to the cafe for some late night bites

0300HRS | And then it was goodnight.

0800HRS | Breakfast began!

Breakfast, in contrast to dinner, was delish

As the ship was beginning to sail back towards the harbour, thefockers and I went to the back of the ship to catch the waves

Deep blue sea!

1000HRS | Arrival!

So we have arrived back on land. *kisses the ground
And left to Gurney Hotel to continue our holiday soon after

Your typical poser picture.

Was hiding in the shaded area  while thefockers played pingpong LOL

All in all, my verdict is that  the one-day cruise wasn't exactly an exhilarating experience but should you want some quality time off with your family and friends, this is a good idea .

There isn't really much to do but if you could enjoy the casino, breeze, time and relaxation together… in a place away from home, that would be something new.

Heck, there's no data nor cellular transmission for cellphones in the middle of the sea anyway so you can rest assure all of you won't be bugged by work calls or other obligatory bullshit 😀 *grins*

Of classy partying, wine, shiny cars & casino games : 7aste, Monte Carlo @ Ecoba!

October 16, 2010 by thejessicat

Wooohooo!

Can never stop living and breathing parties! 😀

Remember the 7aste Monte Carlo theme party I blogged about previously?

Well, what can I say? The event was really classy, very 'atas' if I do say so myself.

The first thing that greeted me upon entering Ecoba's premises!

Shiny sleek cars are love

Cool maximus numberplate!

I didn't know what to wear being it all Monte Carlo and stuff. Clearly, I can't be wearing like the usual short tube dresses and whatnot. So I dug up my non-Monte Carlo wardrobe and well, managed to find something black, longer and more elegant (I hope!).

Initially I was thinking of wearing the shiny long dress I wore for my college prom but didn't wanna end up overdressed! I doubt I'd be seeing suave looking gentlemen in coats and bow-ties anyway. Although that would be a sight to see! 😀

have always thought shawls make ladies look somewhat classier LOL

Me against the backdrop of 7aste!

Okay time to go in! 😀 Let's get the night started alreadyyyyy

Entrance looks pretty grand too!

Spotlights, camera, action 😀

Ooooh and one of the best parts of an event is always the polaroid or instant photographs. 🙂 I love those! You can hold a really grand scaled event, all hi-fi and whatnot but without these, the event would be less… meaningful. I mean, c'mon!

Brought my good friend, Kelly, along with me to the party

I have a polaroid version of this, blu-tacked onto my wardrobe doors. Thanks 7aste!

Everyone would love something to bring home for memories, whats better than a hardcopy which we all can put on our desks, dressing tables or magnet-ed on even our fridges! In fact, I've a collection of almost 30 polaroids from various events, pasted up on my memory wall!

So from now on, any event which I go devoid of polaroids, I shall deem incomplete and kiamsiap!! 😛 😛

the Penang trio Jerine, Calvin & me sippin' our wine. Thanks fo the pic gurl

White wine courtesy of 7aste! 😀

With them boys Serge & Mike

And the finger food! 🙂 There were chicken, pies and lots more – all bite sized!

Gobble gobble gobble

Apart from wine, there was free flow of Carlsberg beer for us VIPs too. Yay! 😀

We can haz ice-cold beer all night looooooooongggg!

I love how events bring people together 🙂 There's always so much merriment in a party!

With my pals Kelly and Andy!

Bumped into my fellow Penangmates Wen Hoong, Wei Ling & Jie Hu. We went to a scouts & guides Combined Training Camp (CTC) together back in 2004! Pleasant surprise meeting you guys again 🙂

*brainfreeze*

Candid shot of me downing the ice-cold Carlsberg
 thanks Lionel haha!

Other than great drinks, food, company, they pumped it up a notch by putting up Casino-like booths all around. There they were, counters of simulated "gambling" games such as Wheel of Fortune, Baccarat and so on.

The "dealers" were also very professionally dressed and groomed neatly. Just like the ones in the real casinos!

Here we are gaming in a round of Punto Banco, aka Player Banker

I miss Genting's Monte Carlo casino already! 🙁

Unlike the real casinos where you actually lose real  money if you lose a round, the one at 7aste was a good gamble. If you lose, you just… well.. be the loser for that round. LOL but if you win, you actually bring home a prize! 😀 😀

Had lotsa fun playing, to which I won a 2GB Pendrive & a 7 shaped ashtray! Hurraaahhh!

The performances too, were adapted from the real Monte Carlo style

Melikey the whole concept of this event! 😀 Very different, very classy, very… Nevada Las Vegas-ish too.

I had really good fun *hic* and perhaps one too many *hic* before leaving for my good friend, Chee Seng's houseparty to *hic* celebrate his 22nd birthday 😀

More piccies of buddies and I having fun throughout the night!

Sippin on more white wine with the buddy!

With pimp daddy Leonard. LOL Thanks for the pic Kate! 🙂

Haha this photo has 2 watermarks because I ain't putting a heart, Sakura flower or pixelating THERE.

Thanks Simon , for the piccie! 🙂

Gurls just wanna have fun! 😀

And to end the night, I present you a very gangster-lovin player-attitude photo! 😀

Also another random photo taken by Serge hehe! 😀

Great night! :D Two thumbs up

Party in style at 7aste : casinos & luxury at its Monte Carlo themed event @ Ecobar

October 4, 2010 by thejessicat

So I totally missed the previous 7aste party held in Penang! Was already supposed to go for it with my homies after RSVP-ing a "yes". That one was held in 32 The Mansion and I was already looking forward. The whole feel of sophistication of their image makes me feel like living the experience for myself 😀

But remember I had to head down to Singapore for Formula One (F1) Grand Prix?

Yeah. So that was why I had to give this particular installment of 7aste a miss!

But now guess what! Found out that 7aste Monte Carlo is coming to KL instead! Yays!

And its this Friday 8th October 2010 at Ecobar!!

Must.go.totally! 😀 Lucky me, as it's pretty close to where I live.

Oh yeah before I forget., I'd suggest you pre-register yourself at their flashy, dramatic webbie www.7aste.com cos if not, ya gotta pay 77 bucks upon entry. Yikes!

Gotta pick out the outfit first! It's a Monte Carlo theme. Think casinos, luxury, shiny cars and living the fast life.

See you there party peeps!

Taking a 'No Sleep' back-to-back spin at Zouk KL and Genting Highlands with the homies!

August 11, 2010 by thejessicat

After I left Penang to come back to the city KL, I guess the homies and I missed each other's crazy hangout moments, parties, late night suppers and random pillow talking.

SO THEY ALL DECIDED TO MAKE A ROAD TRIP DOWN TO SEEEEE MEEEEEE

and as you already know from this post, we drove up Genting Highlands too for some fun.

Minny snapped this piccie of bestie Joyce and I

All of them crashed at my hood for the night

Not wanting to miss out on the KL party scene, they wanted in. I then brought them to where else but Zouk KL? That's my fave haunt on most weekends

Us getting ready… I begged Christopher to lemme make him up! 😛

and bestie Joyce joined the fun with some shimmery lip gloss!

FHL

We gave him the mirror and ran away. 😛 Needless to say, he cursed my whole house down and disappeared into the bathroom to wash everything off! bwahahhaha.

En route to Zouk KL

So we got there and hit the Mainroom and Barsonic. Our poor boys weren't able to enter Phuture as they were a year short of 23 LOL

(actually can one lahhhhh.)

Caught you red-handed Carter!

Thought you said you didn't smoke? muahahhaahhahahaa

Double Iconography ring by Soak Republic. So pretty right! My fave

My babe Minny and I coincidentally in blue 😀

When Penangites storm Zouk KL

Headed back home pretty damn late into the night. Took turns taking showers and couldn't exactly get to sleep after that.

Before we knew it, dawn broke and we packed out bags and hit the road. No sleeeep tonighttttt!

After a one hour journey, we arrived Genting Highlands!

Pretty damn coincidental that all of us were in hoodies!

Back indoors for a while for some lunch. As expected, we got ripped off! How could an average plate of Zhap Fan cost me 12 bucks?? And a normal bowl of Bak Kut Teh costed Joyce and Chris 42 bucks. RAWWWRRRRRR welcome to Genting.

My favorite girls in the world!

loves

We were talking loosely about the future one fine day and sorta made a pact that we would be each others' bridesmaid on our Big Day. But the question remains, which one of us will end up married first? 😀 😀 Guess only Paul the Octopus knows the answer!

Mirror mirror on the wall

Which girl will be first walking down the aisle?

Back outside.. time for the Pirate Ship! No not the lame ass Pirate Train but the Pirate Ship! I could remember riding this years back and got awfully nauseous! Let's just see if i can stomach it again this year!

Us waiting for the loooooooooong queue

by the time we got closer, we saw this signage.

Looks like we're not tall enough 🙁 Woe!

Kidding! We rode it anyway.

This is bestie Joyce and I

BEFORE

DURING!!!

It's a wonder how my camera didn't get flung 100 meters up in the air!

Played more rides and waited for more…

I'm a certified BB Addict 🙂

Mine was pimped courtesy of Berry Addictions! Go get yours done if you love your BB too!

And we finally reached my favorite ride of all time! The Flying Coaster ala Spiderman!

It's my fave because this is the only ride that didn't give me the butt-away-from-seat feeling which I so despise

because this ride required its patrons to STAND during the rollercoastering

not sit 😀 But we loved it anyway.

Sadly this wasn't the kinda ride where you can sit over and over again like the rest of the rides. This ride costs 10 bucks each time we enter. and I wonder why! 🙁 Maybe it's privately owned.. bah humbug.

Walked around catching a breather in the chilly weather

A short Vlog I did!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T60u2_GA1E

😀 😀

okay where was I?

Yeah. the compulsory spot to take photos

Don't know why I never fail to do so with each visit to Genting!

Took a lil stroll around as some of the rides were closed for maintainence – namely the Corkscrew (damn!) and the Solero Shots. So we ended up in Jurassic Park look-a-like thingy and spotted this very STIM bird who was trying to keep his eyes open  :

Go sleep lah hou sum lei.

Don't need to entertain us one.

Mushroom land!

We kept exploring and arrived at the carnival part of the Outdoor Themepark.

You know how there would be fun fairs where simple games can be played to win big fluffy toys?

I had my eyes glued to this adorable sea horse!

Didn't exactly want to give those ring tosses a shot. Come ON! What are the odds your ring gets hooked onto that tiny stick? The probability of your bouncy tennis ball to nestle quietly into the pail 5 meters away from you are extremely slim anyway.

BUT!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABQt1RjOxoE

IT'S SO FLUFFAAYYE WE'RE GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

We wanted it but Tannie tried…. tested…… and gave up LOL. Told you the odds were close to impossible. heh.

The one that the fat man with skinny pointy legs and equally pointy nose (sorry can't remember his name) aka stepdad managed to win for the adorable Agnes in the movie Despicable Me was just well…. VIOLENT. haha!

Saw lotsa people wearing this woolly hat thing too

Likewise, snowboots and winter jackets.

DOOOOOOD! IT REALLY ISN'T THAAAT COLD IN GENTING HIGHLANDS!

Minny and I even counted how many people were overdressed for winter that afternoon

Our Verdict : Malaysians have no where else to "winter dress" in Malaysia
Genting is plausibly the best excuse to don pretty winter clothing

So as much as I would love to purchase this furry hat, I put it down in the end 🙁

But I will come back and buy it before I jet set to UK next year I swear!!!

*secretly hopes to go in time for winter*

Another Vlog!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAjpnQBivts

😀 😀

Underground at the Rolling Thunder Mine Train

The queue was so long we decided to jump over the ledges and leave midway

Night fell and we kept ourselves (and pockets) busy at the Monte Carlo casino all night long! It's really amazing how time actually STOPS when you're in there, really. I had my rounds at Baccarat, French Boule, Roulette, Big & Small, Casino Wars and the rest.

Not gonna tell you how much I won (and lost) in total! 😛 Simply because.

Compulsory shot again

kthxbai! 😀
