Enter the foodies chain!

March 20, 2008 by thejessicat

Fancy cookin up a storm? Or just playing around with tha food yo’ mama always told you not to do? Either way, de gang had an awesome combined cookout over at my crib the whole afternoon

=)

We met up over around lunch and shopped about for the groceries we each needed to make our own signature dish!

The bill went up to a massive amount of RM100 – which my dad generously sponsored. *winks* Oh well, imagine the effort & the labour we have to put in, not walking into some swanky restaurant and leave the fun to the chefs. In my crib, on this day, we ARE the chefs.

Our specialties? YOU HAVEN’T SEEN NUTHIN’ YET!

Saliva for an ingredient? I THINK I’LL PASS. Each of us made something by ourselves and chipped in some help to one another. It’s a mutual process you see, we are to each other like pollen is to bees. If I see you grimacing, fugg off. =P Wakakkakakaa

I made Japanese potato salad with an extra twist; infused with one of our favourite booze- Chivas Regal. Now, that’s more like it. *grins*

The chef de cuisine, chef departie, sous chef kept our hands busy and kakak helped! =) It sure was good to have someone domesticated around We played around and were silly as usual. Oh what am I to do when I have a dudu like you? LOL

By 3-4hours of preps, playing around & cooking, I guess we were done and all set to dine!

Guys, you peeps were awesome!!! I wuvv you guys!!
Silly motley crew incomplete with the butts of two other peeps in KL

For butter or for cheese??

March 8, 2008 by thejessicat

In regards to my previous post, imagine if these were made with cheese.. pure concentrated cheese like nothing but good ol blocks of cheese???

Yes, see the effect of being cheesed? You get autistic & retarded faces
Look! It looks halfway melted and hideously crafted.
The face, I mean. not the sculpture.
No hard feelings, ey? =P

Like I mentioned here my obsession for cheese is over. But I’m still lovin’ it, only a lil less =P

So just imagine, if you ate them all for breakfast, lunch and dinner and if it were to be made of nothing but pure cheese, you’ll prolly end up cheesie-fied, collapsing to the ground impregnanted with partly digested milk curds. UGH.

I AM ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH TO CHEESE.
help. call the paramedics!

LOL. Truth be told, it ain’t made of cheese. It’s all butter – which is obviously even worse!!! Because it’ll be made of , hydrogenated oils, fattyfats and lards
okfine, here’s the complete truth. It ain’t meant to be eaten =P

Those were actually butter sculpture projects made by the Chef students of my campus. =) They are such a fun bunch, never regretted knowing them…. the motley crew, one of them being my Babyboo, other wacky peeps(you know who you are), GAVIN THE NOOBOOB : Exhibit A

Washing his hands after the butter sculpture… and checking himself out in the mirror! Caught in action. “aiyah, hemsem ady lahhh” LOL

Cupids Arrow

February 15, 2008 by thejessicat

Cupid has struck again! Happy Vals to all my dear readers and friends

Valentines Day originated all because of Saint Valentine. Google him if you feel like it.
Three cheers to him!

Yesterday was my 4th Valentine spent with Dubby. No, he did not take me to the Eiffel Tower neither did he buy me a 24-carat diamond ring. Hearts have always been simple and personal. Nothing to boast about. Valentine’s Day has indeed been overrated; just like Christmas Day has. Instead of the spirit of such celebrations increasing, such occasions have been enormously elaborate and it has become a means of showing off.

The below was a slightly edited conversation adapted from a few conversations that I heard today. Hmm.. to think of it, I pity those dudes.

——————————–

What did your boyfriend buy for you this year?
Oh, he only bought me a SONY Vaio laptop! What about yours?
I can’t believe it man… it was so lame. He only bought me a platinum pendant and a gold necklace, which only costed RM300.
Just like that? OMG.
Last year was even worse. He bought me this Chanel perfume, which I am very sure is NOT an original product!
Mine was total shit too. He took me to a Chiles, but all my friends’ boyfriends took them to hotels!
What a cheapskate, just like mine.
Yeah, I know.

——————————–

Money can’t buy love? Money can’t buy happiness?
As of now, those two sentences are highly doubted

.. because happiness and it’s degree of it is subjective. What constitutes happiness? =) That’s for each individual to decide. What’s your defination of happiness?

What we did together yesterday on Valentines may not be the best Valentine he has given me yet, but it certainly was happiness in its own way. We even celebrated it for two days! We went to the movies and had a good dinner together at FoodLoft, Gurney.

The next was spent at RedBox and in the beginning it was pretty awesome when we got the huge room with the dance floor in the middle. LOL. Just the both of us; having a good time singing most of the songs we both could never get to sing with our friends. Hmm.. reason being? Most of his pals hardly listen to English numbers and mine dislikes rock, punk or emo rock. So, it was our time to shine!!

Woo-hoo! Singing almost everything we could search for, and laughing ourselves silly at the times we went too high and got outta tune. =P
The most coincidental and sweetest part was when he picked Westlife – Queen of my Heart just at the right moment to be the last song of our session. That song was the very first ‘our song’ together… and he remembered! Back in 2004 was when he first sang it to me.
iluvyew boo~ ♥

After almost 4 hours of fun and laughter, it was grocery shopping hand-in-hand at Cold Storage for us. Muahahahhaa… Mexican Food and Minestrone soup for the dinner menu! (which we also never get to eat when the others are around). We even bought a bottle of wine, a symbol of toast. Once we shopped for all the stuff we needed, we went home and started to prepare our dinner together, hmm.. I shocked you, didn’t I darl? =P (Yes, I have gathered some culinary interest if you hadn’t noticed.)
Lookie! A Valentine’s tomato!

I laid the table.. and he finished preparing the rest.

We had dinner in the cosy living room and cuddled in front of the telly.
Went to whitebow, pinkbow and blackbow all at once hmm boo? *winks* Spending the entire afternoon, evening and night together was indeed lovely.

Oh and Baby, thanks for making up to me when I got all emo over some stuff. It was really sweet of you. You made me feel like a princess! Hmm… I wonder if I should be emo all the time in order for you to treat me like that everyday? =)

Oh, and to complement our vday plans, we gave each other simple gifts =) Oh yes, and two matching tribal wooden necklaces – the letter ‘B’ and the letter ‘J’. (we’re wearing them in the first three pics of this post) The two wonderful days were already the Vday gifts. *hugs&kisses*

Plunging into domestication

February 4, 2008 by thejessicat

Talk about being domesticated. One of my besties Rachel and I are concocting our very own improvised potato salad! Yay!

I shall let yall in on an embarrassing fact about myself – I’ve never practically stepped into the kitchen before. Well, ‘cept to peek at what Dubby is doing. LOL. Not to that extent of course. I exaggerated, but the truth is more or less embedded within that sentence. I can have Dubby to vouch for that.  oh yes.

Wow is the word. I never thought I’d lived to hear myself say, “Hey! MY cut-up carrots looks so nice.” Thing is, I couldn’t care less about how I cut it up, using what method whatsoever. Certain cut-ups are called ‘Julienne’ and so on and so forth. Earth to carrots??? Look, there are even names of how to cut you puny little things up. How grand can you be?

I’d also never thought I’d hold a carrot the way I held it just now, let alone cut it up into lil unsymmetrical cubes all by myself. Omigosh. Kitchens can be awfully warm too.

Shut up Dubby. Shut up Franz. Shut up Anthony Bourdain.

I know I look ridiculous doing this. In orange, I even resemble a carrot myself. =(

But hey, it turned out alright. (TO ME)
Again, shut up, three of you. I know, they are all pieces of jagged whatnots to you. Nothing like your perfect diced-cubes, matchsticks, paper-thin slices, parallel shreds or the work of your deft hands that upstages mine anytime.

At the end of the day, they are still edible.

Potatoes, Japanese cucumber, Japanese mayo, my lovelylovely carrots and other nonsense too. The boiling potatoes look so adorable gurgling haphazardly while bobbing up and down (inset). Eggs voluntarily jumped into the pot of boiling water after the potatoes, waiting to be hardboiled.

After lots of smashing, mixing, tasting, improvising and mashing… here we are, standing proud with our fruits of labour

Our Japanese Potato Salad. Recipe courtesy of: Tsuruya’s Japanese Chef.

Tried, tested, and most importantly,
MADE IT.
verdict? we love it!!

cooking’s not that bad after all. *giggles in silent*
