How dope is this poppy den? Opium KL: Eat Drink Man Woman | Changkat Bukit Bintang

March 6, 2015 by thejessicat

Disclaimer: Opium KL does not deal nor supply Opium in any way, shape or form.

You need to get those somewhere else 😉

Right after its grand opening mid last year, I was invited to the latest establishment along the vibrant Changkat Bukit Bintang, Opium KL.

And no, as mentioned above, it doesn’t supply the illegal substance, contrary to its name.

Located at the corner of the bustling street, its brick walls boast a deep, crimson red hue

with framed modern portraiture of young Chinese maidens.

First impression: Opium KL’s oriental theme and relaxed al-fresco atmosphere

is a sure pull-factor for all patrons and party-goers of the city (especially Caucasian tourists!)

 Eat. Drink. Man. Woman.

Can’t wait to see what this new kid on the block has to offer! Big Smile

Walking into Opium KL, I was spellbound by such authentic interior decor, perfectly capturing 17th century China within its four walls.

It was complete with the opium pipes, opium chests and other opium equipments, as well as the ‘lounge-bed’ chairs akin to those of opium dens!

Whoa. No seriously, WHOA. And that’s not even all of it.

Beautiful. Really a work of art in its class! I felt like I was walking into the Forbidden City

or a museum of illegal artifacts.

They offer separate rooms too, for private dining!

I was ushered to my table upon arriving.

Beautifully-dressed waitresses began to serve us our soup & appetizers.

Boy, they really look the part too!

Peppery Lamb Soup

I loved this! Two of my favorite ingredients were made out of it – pepper and lamb!

Its combination of lamb cubes, carrots, potatos, spices, coriander and fried shallots worked well as a starter, to warm my tummy up for the courses ahead.

Not too peppery nor spicy too.

Fern Leaf Salad with Grilled Prawns

The next starter was a unique one. Wild fern leaves were prepared with huge prawns and tossed in ginger, sambal, flower shallots, coconut and lime juice.
It was slightly spicy, but juicy and delicious all the same.

Vinegar was given for us to self-sprinkle onto our dish.

Crab Cakes

These were such delightful bites! Real crab meat is made into tiny balls and infused with herb & sambal. It was indeed as juicy as it looks, with fillings oozing out of every bite.

Chicken or Beef Satay

You really can’t go wrong with satay. Opium KL nailed it perfectly too.

Assembled with the standard fare of peanut sauce-cucumber-onion-rice cake combo, there was however, one VERY note-worthy thing.

Each skewer contained little to no fats! If you’re a fitness junkie like I am, you’d appreciate that fact just as much as I did. 😉

Check out how water was served here!

Like the way they traditionally drank rice wine back in ancient China,

it was served in a porcelain bowl too.

Took a stroll around the restaurant while waiting  for my drinks and main course to arrive.

Yes, I found the lavatory signs very amusing and creative.

When I got back to the table, voila! It was filled with Opium KL’s signature house cocktails and twisted classics. Let’s take a closer look at them one-by-one, shall we?

5 fragrance mojito

This refreshing concoction comprises rum, lime, mint, 5 spices & soda.

It’s not your average mojito, I’m tellin’ ya. 😉

50 years storm

A bit of an acquired taste, this consists of cognac, sweet vermouth, angostura bitters, peychauds bitters & sugar

 Shanghailander

For the bold whiskey lovers, enjoy this whiskey, smokey whiskey, honey water, ginger & lemon juice combo!

Silk road martini

A simple yet strong pair of Gin or vodka and Noilly Prat – now served with diced caviar too!

Teatrader

Turn up the heat with this frothy shake of rum, grand marnier,

lime juice, orange juice & 5 spiced syrup!

After the cocktail tasting, I stepped outside to take a breather before the main course.

Dusk slowly easing in.

With Sascha, the outlet manager of Opium KL!

P/S: To all single ladies out there, he’s newly single now 😉

Angus Beef Rendang paired with Lotus Leaf Buns

This Angus beef was tender to taste, simmered to perfection with spices, santan, tumeric leaves and kaffir lime leaves.
Tastey and relatively spicy (but bearable!) the beef rendang was definitely worth coming back for. Laughing

Just sandwich it in the lotus leaf bun and eat it as a whole.

Spicy Prawn Noodles

This dish reminded me a lot of Penang Hokkien Mee. Click here for more Penang goodness!
It had a similar combination of yellow noodles & rice vermicelli, served with scallops, eggs, prawns, water spinach (kangkung) and beansprouts, all steeped in hearty prawn broth.

This Penang girl definitely approves!

We were full to the brim and adjourned to the al-fresco deck to have desserts and a few more drinks, we saw that the patio was booked out with Opium KL’s dinner crowd.

Moo and I just before dessert time.

(At that point, little did we know that we would end up officially together!)

Eat. Drink….. Man. Woman!

Cheesy Banana Fritters

Talk about a strong banana boost! Boyfie and I loved this heaps – we almost went for seconds but unfortunately we couldn’t stomach any more food. Who can resist fried banana and aged cheddar, topped with banana ice-cream?

Unless you aren’t a banana fan, but that’s besides the point.

Last but not least – Melon Ice to wash everything down. 😀

Honeydew melon, sago pearls & coconut milk combo was a great end to a fantastic oriental meal

Thank you so much, Sascha and Opium KL for having me tonight – I had a superb feast!

Beautiful AND hardcore: Otterbox Symmetry is my new tough love!

October 9, 2014 by thejessicat

Go ahead, let your phone slip right out of your hand carelessly or let it fall off your lap absent-mindedly. Drop your phone on the ground or lose your grip accidentally before watching it fall prey to gravity.

I worry not about your phone… for I worry more about the concrete floor instead! WHY?

Allow me to introduce my stylish new iPhone case from OtterBox’s Symmetry Series in Dreamy Pink. Say hi! She’s pretty, isn’t she? Kiss

OtterBox, the #1 Most trusted smartphone case protection in the US and Canada, has recently created one of the slimmest and most protective smartphone case in its class.

If you haven’t heard of OtterBox, you must be living under a rock… far, far away from the tech world, for Otterbox is a global leader and award-winner in protection for smartphones, gadgets and mobile devices since the year 1998!

Needless to say, I was truly delighted when I received a surprise parcel addressed to me from OtterBox themselves! Laughing

Check it out:

Opened the parcel to find the latest Symmetry Series in Dreamy Pink,

alongside a beauty-fashion survival kit and a lovely handwritten note. Also check out the time I went to Celcom’s launch of the iPhone 5 here.

OtterBox’s picks in their fashion survival kit:

Travel-sized Sephora beauty/cosmetic/vanity goodies to keep me looking good at all times!

What has a beauty-fashion survival kit got to do with a smartphone case protection, you ask? Because style matters! Wink

Compared to its other hardcore predecessors, such as the Armor Series, Defender Series and Commuter Series, the Symmetry Series takes style and fashion seriously.

 [youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQH2fZCMzrY” width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

If style & personality didn’t matter, you could just wrap your phone in a plastic shell and call it a day, right? I know that I simply cannot. Admittedly, I am one who loves everything to be aesthetically pleasing on top of its practicality. Tongue Out

My gadgets, tools of trade, apparel, footwear, accessories or heck, even the furniture & walls around me has to look pretty. (Geez  I can’t wait to own my first house. It’s gonna look like the best of an IKEA showroom – I swear)

Yes, I do go out colour coordinated. Last Wednesday’s theme was white.

I actually love how versatile my dreamy pink Symmetry iPhone case is.

It is simple, pretty, mildly funky yet has this touch of femininity – something I would definitely take to every business meeting, every party, every dinner date, every music festival and every outdoor activity! Cool

Here’s some pictures of me going out with it:

Another day in the office – jives effortlessly on casual Fridays!

Contrasted well with my vibrant outfit on regular outings and spontaneous meetings

Hello from the fitting room!

Matches well with my eccentric wear on outings and rave parties!

And yet goes seamlessly well with my corporate attire for business meetings!

My iPhone and iPad tag-team also dresses up in matching pastel pink shades!

Now you see how style matters to me so much? Big Smile

OtterBox must’ve granted my wishes in my sleep. The new Symmetry Series lets us choose from a wide array of colours and graphics, so we can protect our precious smartphones yet strut our style and stand out from the rest at the same time.

Look at some of the designs they have!

Having a dull boring colour on hardcore gadget protection is so yesterday – unless you’re a person who likes monotonous &  monochromatic colours, then I guess that’s fine by you. Shocked

But for the ones sitting on the opposing spectrum of design, you can continue to revel in delight. Symmetry does come in a full range of both bright & breezy colours (RM169) as well as the solid single-coloured ones (RM149). Laughing

I know all you’re seeing is about the iPhone. It’s also available for the iPhone 6 now too! Talk about being quick, eh? Tongue Out

But fret not. For those of you non-Apple iWorshippers, the Symmetry Series is also available for the Samsung Galaxy S4/S4 and the HTC One M8.

Moving on…

I haven’t even come to the BEST PART of the Symmetry Series yet. Ha Ha

Aside from it’s pretty sight, it is specially made to protect your phone from heart-stopping drops, without doing any damage to you or your phone’s pristine state.

So yes, go ahead and drop it in style; tough smartphone protection just got prettier.

I’m sure nothing makes us happier than getting protection from a brand we can trust. And I mean this in more ways than one… 😛 *coughs*

Featuring a streamlined design that delivers tough protection from drops and shock, this stylish OtterBox case gives you something no one else can — confidence knowing your device is well protected by a shockproof, drop-proof and scratchproof (pretty!) armour.

My iPhone all pretty & protected every single day at all times!

Its internal synthetic ruber means its ready for the hardest of bumps and the specially designed, raised beveled edge keeps your touchscreen safe from harm too. Say goodbye to unsightly scratches on your screen.

Mine was badly slashed up before OtterBox saved my (phone’s) life! I Surrender!

[youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0BJQWSh-i4″ width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

As illustrated in the video above, its dual material construction absorbs shock and withstands drops with ease. Watch it; it will give you a better understanding of how the shockproof feature works in your favour.

The style you want, the protection you need… is now all yours. Go get it and thank me later!

So hardcore that I have no worries bringing it to the gym!

Let my barbells drop on it for all I care. Whooops. Sorry. Are you hurt? I guess not. 😛

I have to honestly acknowledge that Symmetry is a God sent gift by OtterBox!

For a person that is rather lackadaisical with the protection of my belongings, most of my gadgets are often scratched and dented due to my nonchalance. Undecided

I also tend to multitask by taking pictures & selfies, texting and catching up with my social media feeds all while walking and running my errands. Frown

You can see how my iPhone is always snug in the palm of my hands – never leaving my sight. I don’t put it in my handbag nor my pockets ever. Therefore, I tend to drop it a lot 🙁

Speaking of dropping phones, watch this funny and cute ad for the Symmetry Series!

[youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zgxKH36VMQ” width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

HAHHAAHAH. Yup, doesn’t hurt at all!

OtterBox Symmetry in dreamy pink amongst my notes and work scribbles

OtterBox even has a built-in powerbank case called the Resurgence Series. Surprised

Imagine a heavy user like me trying to efficiently use my iPhone without draining its battery before midday – don’t even get me started.

Hey, I work in social media 24/7, what do you expect? Hit with Brick

I will be sharing all about my new Resurgence iPhone case with you soon! Definitely another God-sent gift to Generation Y.

Thank you OtterBox, for Symmetry – a revolutionary invention!

Now that’s what I call beauty with a purpose.

Getting classy & fabulous with Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eye Shadow – 208 Tisse Gabrielle!

September 18, 2014 by thejessicat

Chanel has always been known to be a timeless and classic icon of beauty, style and of course, luxury at its finest.

Needless to say, Coco Chanel has established an empire (or should I say, cult?) for herself with a strong  following of fashionistas aka ‘slaves’. And admittedly, I am one of them.

Introducing the Chanel Les 4 Ombre Eyeshadow from its Spring 2014 cosmetic collection.

Many thanks to Clozette Malaysia for hooking me up!

—————————————

Also, a shoutout to my accessories sponsors – The Wild Things – for the lovely Aztec earrings and the daisy chain necklace that you see in this post! Kiss Go get your pretty accessories (especially their Pandora-inspired charmbracelets!) from them!Much love.

—————————————–

Arguably every urban city girl’s (material, I must add) dream – Chanel.

Speaking of which, I recently got myself my very first Chanel handbag. Laughing It made me happy; worked hard for it! Actually, I do *somewhat* feel a pinch of regret, as that money I worked hard for could very well be used for something more feasible. Frown

Because, to be entirely honest, many non-material things make me happy. But then again…

As bad and guilty I feel about, I remind myself… look – it’s a Chanel – and mine is vintage. Put these two words together and that’s enough of a justification or an answer you need; which marks the end of discussion.

Mom, I hope you’re not reading this… heh. heh. If you are then – *gulp* I won’t hear the end of it! Yell

MOVING ON…. Big Smile

So what’s this new collection about?

CHANEL writes a new chapter in the story of its cult palette Les 4 Ombres originally created in 1982. It’s new formula guarantees an even more creative make up result in a new collection inspired by tweed, the iconic fabric of the House.

Based on a selection of House tweeds, the CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio composes eight unprecedented LES 4 OMBRES harmonies. Smile Here they are!

Any favorites? I can spot mine from a mile away!

The four shadows are like the coloured threads of the fabric weave.

They match perfectly and each one redefines a new variation on the theme of elegance! 😀

Like the tweed jacket, which can be worn in so many different ways,

the LES 4 OMBRES palette is the most adaptable fashion accessory.

This is where colours, contrasts and effects come together in endless combinations for an infinite variety of looks based on a unique style.
An essence of chic elegance and pleasure for women who like to have as much fun with makeup as they do with fashion – much like I do! Cool I believe a majority of you are too. (Of course if you’re a dude and you’re reading this then it wouldn’t exactly apply to you…)

What’s so special about this range, you ask?

The new formula of LES 4 OMBRES is a new, soft and long-lasting texture facilitates application, offers new colour effects and expresses all the intensity of the shades, whilst capturing the subtlety of the nuances and playing with textures.

In short, it just makes you runway ready – at all times! Laughing

Exceptionally concentrated with pure pigments, its soft, fine and

silky texture glides over the eyelid like a caress.

This comfortable shadow easily dresses eyes in lasting, luminous and even-toned colours that adapt and blend together to perfection. Applying it was a breeze and goodness me, blending it with one another complemented each shadow and highlight so well!Surprised

FYI, their radiance and translucency are heightened by the complete absence of talc.

Within a single palette, a harmony of colours comes in diverse effects with an intense, even, luminous and long-lasting finish. And believe me when I say long-lasting.

I’m usually out for hours at social functions and events and when I come home, the makeup stays on like its ready for another round of rockin’! Cool (Please, can we go home already?)

Amongst the harmonies, LES 4 OMBRES guarantees that every woman will find the one that will enhance her eyes. I would know, because I definitely found mine.

4 eyeshadows, 4 shades, 4 precise functions for a combination of unique colours and countless makeup results.

Unboxing the palette of my choice – Tisse Gabrielle 208

How it looks on human skin.

Love how this is a palette that spells revisited classics for an unmatched smoky effect! It may look the same from afar but if you take individual swatches of it like I’ve pictured it above, the four shades are a brilliant combination of delicate grey, iridescent white gold, velvet black grey and lastly, greyish mauve.

So glad I chose this palette because as I mentioned before in my previous makeup/beauty blog articles, I prefer darker/smokier and edgier colours instead of plain pastel light colours. Electric Shock

Love how it looks on my eyelids!

The intense shadows reveal all the depth of dark shades. The satiny ones make a statement while remaining sheer and the iridescent or metallic colours sparkle with elegance.

Each harmony is composed of two contrasting shades to blend in a gradation or apply in contrast: one dark shade to intensify, sculpt and add depth, and one light shade to illuminate and give the eyes a wide-open effect.

See how shimmery yet bold and rich these colours are? Each function has its own place on the contours of your eye for different looks.

I had this eyeshadow on for at least 8 hours and it didn’t end up smudging everywhere or dusting off loosely like some of the other brands I’ve used before!

Here’s another look at it, in its full glory of a classy, compact palette case and packaging.

Available in all Chanel cosmetic stores and selected retail outlets for RM200++

(will get the exact price for you soonest!)

Thank you Chanel Malaysia and Clozette Malaysia for this classy and fabulous opportunity.

For in the words of the late Coco Chanel…

Raving to Mysterious Asia: Journey to the Sound @ Club Platinum 21, The Icon KL!

June 14, 2014 by thejessicat

It’s such a shame to learn that ‘Blasterjaxx in Mysteriousland’ ended up postponed after so much buzzing drama-rama revolving around the utterly sensitive situation of the Malaysian rave scene.

I really was looking forward to raving my head off to Blasterjaxx!

The tracks and remixes of this Dutch big room-electrohouse duo has been on loop on my iPod for the past couple of months.

We can only look forward to September as Mysterious is set to present DVBBS, Vinai and Bounce Generation. – if it doesn’t get cancelled at the eleventh hour again, that is. *crosses fingers*

All dressed up and ready to tear up the town!

Here’s what turned up the heat in Platinum 21 KL when Mysterious Asia brought down international EDM superstars like Sandro Silva, Nari & Milani, Jacob Van Hage, Tony Romera, 2 Faced Funks and Reece Low as well as Trance headliners from the likes of Tenishia, Bobina and Susana.

Today’s post is a sequel to this blog article!

Tonight’s get up! Jessicat wears:

Cropped top by Kitschen | KItty skater skirt by H&M | High tops in purple by PUMA

Accessories by The Wild Things | Spiked snapback from a fashion bazaar

Having being cancelled by authorities at the very last minute from taking place in MINES International Exhibition and Convention Centre, Mysterious Asia fought hard to make it happen for us fans and insisted that the show must go on!

And it did Big Smile

Making my way down to the rooftop club, Platinum 21, atop The Icon in KL city

Brought childhood buddy Ed along to party it up!

As I arrived a little late, here are the local acts I missed out on.

The event started with ArfixQ & FyeQ, followed by Fahmi Azlan & Hiroshi, Bobby Bangers & Hidetoski, Pafko & La Short and LissaQash.

A wonderful medley of sounds can be heard, from House to Electro, and Progressive House to Trance booming through the speakers in the club. Cool

The event continued with its first international guest act at about 740pm.

All the way from down under, Reece Low slams his signature sound – the Melbourne bounce!

Reece Low in action.

The pink masked and covert duo –

2 Faced Funks kicked off after Reece Low with massive tunes!

I heard their latest release ‘Underdog’ got the crowd way too excited!

It definitely should; I love that track too!

This progressed perfectly with Tony Romera’s upbeat progressive house set.

Throwing in some evergreen remix of Eurythmic’s Sweet Dream, the crowd responded insanely to this French powerhouse’s refreshing, funky beats!

I was so glad not to miss his set!

Tony Romera set the pace for my night as I arrived right smack in the middle of his eclectic performance.

Arriving Club Platinum 21.

Look ma, I’m glowing (with euphoria)!

Tony Romera interacted with his crowd so well!

We went totally nuts with Tony Romera himself as he dropped his popular track ‘Go Nuts’

His twisted, elasticated synths and a massive thumping drops, bounces along with the intense energy the crowd fed off from.

The night got a lot heavier with his deep club banger of a track. Ahh!

I took a breather from the incredulous amount of jumping for a sip by the bar

But his electro house set was so good that I had to go onto the dance floor again!

 Watch him go!

Before I knew it, it was time for the next act.

The transition of artistes were so smooth as Tony Romera thanked his raving audience before Jacob Van Hage took to the stage.

The transition: Tony Romera and Jacob Van Hage!

With buddy Edwin by the bar waiting for Jacob’s set to kick-off!

I was checking out Jacob’s tracks throughout the week leading up to Mysterious and I really fancied his experimental sounds!

I can’t quite put my finger on the genre that describes him most as he seems to alternate between different styles in his mashups and productions but if I would, the closest would be varying sub-genres of house.

Welcoming Jacob Van Hage on the decks!

Jacob turning it up!

He’s known to be very energetic in his performances.

Seeing him tonight, I can totally vouch for that!

His inexhaustible drive throughout his entire set shot the crowd to even higher waves.

It was a definite havoc on all corners of the dance floor!

From Krewella, to Chuckie and Bingo Players to W&W, keep it going, Jacob!

The Dutch DJ-Producer also included slower, uplifting numbers,

like Armin Van Buuren’s ‘This is What It Feels Like’. Perfect, we need a rest too!

The many expressions of Jacob Van Hage when he dropped his original track, ‘Spotfire’

Jacob whipped out his phone and took a picture of his party peeps mid performance.

One for Jacob’s Instagram album, guys!

Even I tried to take a picture with Jacob during his performance! Haha.

But to my surprise, he was beside me on the dance floor right after his performance!

I excitedly said hi and grabbed him for a photo. Pardon my awkward smile.

 Thanks, Jacob! You were wonderful!

Our next entertainment of the night was Italian house duo, Nari & Milani.

They continued to pump the crowd up with their energetic electro set!

I was raving up high in the sky throughout but they particularly stole my attention when they slipped in some old skool and classic rock into their progressive set.

Wow! That was unexpected. But a little plot twist never gets old. Surprised

In fact, it always works! Such was the case for Nari & Milani tonight.

They also played various tracks from the likes of Calvin Harris, Alesso, Nicky Romero and more. Nari & Milani remix of One Republic’s ‘If I Lose Myself’ was a good club banger right there! Laughing

 Put your hands up!

Buddy Audrey and I getting our groove on!

Selfie time!

We both had one common aim that night –

to wait for Sandro Silva’s set in anticipation!

I went to the back of the crowd again to the bar as all that jumping got me real thirsty.

It was that good!

Pretty sure everyone else agrees with me!

Thank you, Nari & Milani for turning up our night to the next level!

Sandro Silva was next and the total dance floor destroyer  took over with a high note.

At this hour, the club was already at full capacity and even overflowing to the outdoor balcony area. All the party punters were going beserk with one massive Beatport chart-topper one after another.

 Hello, Sandro Silva!

When he dropped his track collab with Quintino ‘Epic’, the night catapulted to an even more epic one in an instant!

I personally recall myself screaming and jumping ala trampoline right beneath my feet.

I wasn’t alone in my world though!

Imagine all the thrashing about on the dance floor when

Sandro Silva dropped Showtek & Noisecontroller’s ‘Get Loose’!

Random pic of buddy Ed and I mid raving!

The young Dutch DJ-Producer smashin’ the dancefloor once again

with his remix of  DVBBS & Borgeous’ famed track Tsunami!

After his performance, I bolted to the balcony outside to catch a breath.

A few minutes later, who else do I least expect to see sipping on his drink right behind me?

Such a pleasure to meet you in person, Sandro!

He is based in Amsterdam now as we had a quick chat before I went back inside.

With no time to waste, Tenishia took to the deck and pushed the beats off the roof with their medley of uplifting and tech trance.

Welcoming Joven Grech & Cyprian Cassar from Malta to Malaysia!

Tenishia blasted tracks and remixes from Armin Van Buuren, Showtek, Tiesto, Jorn Van Deynhoven. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t drop ‘Benedictus’ which was a staple in my playlist! 🙁

But the #1 DJs of Malta more than made up for it with their ridiculously sick set!

Tenishia dropping their original track – Where Do We Begin

Scheduled to perform together with them, trance vocalist Susana could not do so due to technical issues but regardless, she came onto the decks to rock out with the duo.

World ranked #50 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Tenishia also played Ramelia, a track which Susana collaborated with RAM and other tunes which had her powerful vocals resonating from its depths.

So we got to hear her voice after all, albeit not live! 😀

 Hi Susana!

Heart hands! We love you too!

Drinks by the bar again! We also got ourselves mineral water, which were reasonably priced thankfully (you know what I’m insinuating)

Fellow partyrockers were still buzzing with energy despite the wee hours of the morning!

The force is strong in this one 😀

SO EXCITED when I bumped into Cyprian of Tenishia.

That’s the goodness of hosting raves in small locations, ya know? Ha Ha

Fans get the chance to meet all their favorite DJs personally instead of only seeing them from afar at more massive music festivals.

I mean, of course the latter has its merits; I wouldn’t discount the fact that music fests and large-scale rave parties are way more mind-blowing due to aesthetics like lighting, pyros, LCD backdrop effects, laser beams and more.

But hey, once in a while, going to smaller rave parties held at clubs has its plus points too!

Went to the front of the DJ console to see Bobina’s head peeking out from under

the decks as he prepared for the transition to his performance. How cute 😛

Sippin’ on an ice cold beer while waiting.

 Buddy Ed and I!

A name all too familiar with trance music, DJ Mag Top 100’s #47 Bobina takes care of the last set with grace.

This globetrotting DJ-Producer managed to keep the crowd raising their hands in the air with chart topper tracks like his collabo track with Andrew Rayel ‘Sacramentum’ and his latest number (a collabo with Susana too!) ‘Play Fire with Fire.’

Bobina dropping an uplifting one by Armin Van Buuren  ‘Sound of the Drums’

His progressive house & trance set gave exhausted party people that extra jab of boost we needed!

Moomoo and I (LOLOLOL inside joke!)

Pardon the dishevelled look as we only remembered to take selfies at the end of the night

after we danced like two psychomaniac-lunatics on acid-tripping fire.

Check out the BOBINA flag a fan made for him!

(His manager holding it up)

That’s the fan who made it. Can you spot him taking a pic in the background?

Eat sleep rave repeat! Spot me raving in the front! Muahaha.

Bobina surprised us with a trance classic by Tiesto, ‘Traffic’ before turning up a notch

to one of the latest track of this quarter, EIFORYA by Armin & Andrew Rayel.

I went into a frenzy when Bobina dropped his very own remix of Armin’s ‘Ping Pong’ with W&W’s ‘Bigfoot’

That was brilliant! You should take a listen. Very tastefully done!

Despite it being way past 3 in the morning, Bobina kept his infectious beats and deep basslines on a steady rise.

Bobina interacting with his crowd with the arm wave as we followed suit.

Spot me in the crowd again 😀 😀

We were more than tired and I could feel my feet starting to give way LOLOL

But still, a set as energy-driven as Bobina’s didn’t stop me from mustering my last fumes of rave power!

Managed to grab a selfie with Dmitry ‘Bobina’ Almazov before I adjourned home to crash.

Thank you, Mysterious, for a spectacular rave party!

Needless to say, I enjoyed myself so very much!

So glad the peeps of Mysterious endeavoured for the show to go on despite complications surrounding our local rave scene.

Let’s save the rave… together! Furious

Let no one stop us. Peace Love Unity and Respect to all fellow EDM fans!

PLUR babeh, let’s rave this the right way with Mysterious.

Can’t wait for the next Mysterious rave! Two more to go for 2014 😀

Healthy dining at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC)!

May 30, 2014 by thejessicat

Being a health food junkie known for fastidiousness and a hard-to-please demeanor when it comes to food criticism, it usually would take a lot for me to approve or recommend food marketed as ‘healthy’.

As long as it is not made with my bare hands or by the hands of a fellow fit food/health food enthusiast, I tend to raise an eyebrow when labels on pre-packaged foods and menus proclaim themselves to be ‘healthy’, ‘sugar-free’, ‘fat-free’, ‘low calorie’ and other drivel.

My initial skeptical face. Looking forward to unveil KLGCC’s new Healthy Menu regardless!

But when Malaysia’s premiere golf and country club invited me for a food tasting and review session of the newly-launched healthy menu of their Golfer’s Terrace, something tells me that this has gotta be the real deal. Surprised

Arriving at the entrance.

Bestowed with prestigious awards over the years, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) is an exquisite clubhouse nestled on Bukit Kiara hilltop with a golf course to die for and exclusive VIP lifestyle facilities for its members.Smile

Just a little background info (and to blow their trumpet a little!), here are some of their notable honours they’ve been recognized for:

  • 2014 Best Golf Course in Malaysia by US Golf Digest
  • Best Golf Experience in Malaysia by Expatriate Lifestyle
  • Best Clubhouse in Asia Pacific and #1 Gold Course in Malaysia Asian Golf Monthly Awards 2013 and 2012
  • The BrandLaureate Awards 2012-2013 Best Brand in Sport-Golf Course.
  • Golf Course of the Year by Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards Regional Series 2011-2013

Pulling up into the driveway of KLGCC.

Today’s fashion get-up. Jessicat wears:

Lace button-down blouse in white by H&M / Skater skirt in blue by Topshop /

Tessuto Vitello Daino tote bag by Prada /Jeffrey Campbell inspired boots by Forever 21

Accessories by DIVA.

More often than not, meals at golf clubs and terraces usually comprise selections of club sandwiches, sinful finger food (read chicken drummets, sausages, potato chips, nuggets) and all the other typical snacks that would appease an average golfer’s palate.

However, the exclusive Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC)’s culinary team took a step ahead of its competition to create an additional menu armed with one objective in mind, that is to take our tastebuds around the globe… but with a healthy twist! Laughing

The new menu features a variety of entrees, salads, desserts and more.

Prepared and cooked with the freshest of ingredients by in-house culinary team, this menu is the brainchild of Executive Chef Arnold Kwok, who ingeniously crafted it with good health in mind.

Take a look at some of the masterpieces we were served with that evening. Wink

From long business lunches to express lunches on-the-go, patrons can savour the light Chicken Romaine Salad from the Western palate to Thailand’s famous and exotic, Green Curry Chicken.

I had the pleasure of indulging in the latter – which you will see in a bit!

Other around-the-world choices are Salmon with Warm Tomato relish, Steamed Sea Bass with baby Bok Choy and Slow Cooked Beef Brisket.

As all healthy main meals would not seem quite complete without an equally healthy drink, diners can opt between 4 of their healthy fruit & vegetable smoothies.

Check out the refreshing (and rather unique, I might add!) blend of smoothies and juices that will tantalize any health junkie.

Clearly I chugged it all down with glee!

To introduce this menu to the public, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club hosted a group of media, lifestyle bloggers and health food enthusiasts to savour and review the new line-up.

Can anyone say, first dibs on all the food? Ha Ha

I  too, had the good fortune of receiving an invitation to tonight’s dining.

Thanks, KLGCC!

Executive Chef Arnold Kwok welcoming us and introducing his healthy menu.

With society becoming more health conscious, we also want to serve healthy meals of a good variety that will appeal to all age groups.

We want to encourage patrons to make healthier choices when it comes to food

– Arnold Kwok

In this menu, a variety of healthier alternatives are used to substitute regular ingredients.

For instance, coconut oil replaces the usual cooking oil (high  in cholesterol and saturated fats by the way!), coconut flour replaces white flour and strictly no preservatives or processed food are used.

Instead, Chef Kwok uses ingredients such as  lean chicken, sea salt, unsalted butter and Omega 3 eggs, to name a few.

Fairly convincing, right?
Let’s enter the dining area of the KLGCC’s Golf Terrace now. Adore

A sneak peak of the interior.

Tables were reserved for us that evening.

Let’s begin with the first meal of the day!

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up fresh in the morning? A big, hearty breakfast is what gets me fueled up for the day.

No breakfast, and all you’ll get is a grumpy Jessicat with depleted energy levels throughout the day. Approach with caution. Doubt it!

For sufficient calories to begin your day, KLGCC’s breakfast is available from 7.30-10.30am. Golfers, start your tee off with these! 😉

Tuna Guacamole Salad

Calorie Counter: 661 Calories

Departing from the standard fare of the usual garden salad or caesar salad,

this meal certainly stands out.

The Tuna Guacamole Salad consists of tuna chunks, guacamole, Omega-3 eggs, tomato, black olives, onion and seasonal salad, topped with creamy pine nut dressing.

The tuna chunks are mashed with guacamole and wrapped up with seaweed lining – just like how sushi rolls would look like! Laughing

This well-seasoned and colourful dish was sprinkled with balsamic vinegar while the slight hint of spiciness from the black pepper in the creamy pine nut dressing is sure to perk you up!

 Moving on…

If salad isn’t up your alley, why don’t you take a look at this oven-baked dish and pastry combination instead?

Chicken Broccoli Frittata
Calorie Counter: 411 Calories

Care to have a bite?

The frittata really got my nod of approval. Big Boss

Bursting with flavours from its fresh vegetable ingredients like broccoli, capsicums, eggplants, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions, as well as Omega-3 eggs and herbs, this well-balanced dish had just the perfect light, fluffiness from the baked eggs.

This contrasts well with that crunch you would least expect from the veggies.

Accompanying the frittata, the side dishes of soft and moist zucchini bread and banana nut muffin made this meal a really wholesome and filling one!

Almond Zucchini Bread  & Banana Nut Muffin
Calorie Counter: 109 Calories  & 155 Calories respectively

Baked with almond flour, the Almond Zucchini Bread felt like a perfect breakfast bread in comparison to other breads and pastries laden with butter, bleached white flour and whatnot.

Good to bite into an infused bread which isn’t overly moist and mushy – such is the case for most banana breads, I must point out.

Similarly, the Banana Nut Muffin is baked with coconut flour and no refined sugar. Thus, it did not contain that cloyingly sweet taste like regular muffins (which is kinda the reason I never fancy muffins). Undecided

Loved that hint of banana and mild nut taste in these fluffy and well-risen muffins.

Vegetarians would be delighted to know that the three dishes above – the frittata, bread and muffin – are suitable for them too!

Now that breakfast is over, what would be your healthy accompaniment? I’d usually whirl up a breakfast shake or smoothie.

KLGCC’s  healthy blended juices available are the:

(L-R) Citrus Kiwi, Tumeric Veggie Blend, Mango Berries & Apple Spinach

I’ve always been a fruit smoothie drinker instead of a fruit juice drinker as the former retains the fruits’ pulp and fibre instead of only allowing the consumption of water and fructose (fruit) sugar. Yup, I prefer my drink 100% pure, with every nutrient intact.

Only then the true benefits of the fruit are maximized!

Let’s put them to test!

Citrus Kiwi

The is a zesty, tangy one with natural mild sweetness. Yum!

Tumeric Veggie Blend

Definitely an acquired taste. This contains tumeric root, carrots, romaine lettuce, cucumber and lemon. Pretty odd concoction but magically works!

Mango Berries

This combo was a tad too sour for me but if you’re a massive berry fan then this would be your cup of tea.

Apple Spinach

Considering the fact that I drink my smoothies with spinach almost every morning, this one was a familiar taste for me.

All in all, I would go for another shot of Apple Spinach and the Citrus Kiwi.

Now… moving on to the mains!

Salmon with Warm Tomato Relish

Calorie Counter: 275 Calories

The buttery pan-seared Norwegian salmon rests atop a sea of interesting Mediterranean styled gravy and bites, namely tomato, black olives, onions, vinegar, capers and basil.

I’m a strong believer of that crispy golden crust with a pinkish surprise centre for every salmon dish I cut open.

And guess what? This one by KLGCC nailed it right down the middle.

With its tasty, soft tender flakes bursting into a symphony of flavours onto my tastebuds, each bite can only attest to its freshness and divine perfection.

Jessicat loves her fish. Always my first choice in any menu!

Moving onto something from the exotic east…Well actually, not so exotic for us Malaysians, as Thailand practically is our next-door brethren towards the north.

But for my expat or non-local readers, this one’s an exotic gem from the land of smiles.

 Thai Green Curry Chicken

Calorie Counter: 562 Calories

Here’s something most people didn’t know. I absolutely love spicy food – but unfortunately, my tastebuds and stomach feel otherwise.
They somehow do not seem to agree that I actually fancy it, much less see the need to cooperate. 🙁
Fortunately, this Thai Green Curry isn’t as menacingly spicy as the rest of the curries from the Thai cuisine (i.e Tom Yam).
This was mild and led to a rare occasion where my tastebuds and stomach were both nodding in agreement to finally accommodate my love for spicy food. Yay for me! Big Smile

Thai Green Curry purists might find it bland, but I thought it was just fine. This healthy alternative of regular Thai Green Curry, was less creamy, less spicy, less thick and came served with an option of brown rice or caul-rice.
Wait – what is caul-rice? It is a medley of finely grated cauliflower, onion, sweet potato, chili flakes and herbs.

Should opt out of eating rice or on a low-carb diet, select from the 3 tasty alternatives above.

Cauliflower Rice, Mashed Sweet Potato and Brown Rice.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t eat regular rice at all. Not for health purposes – but I just absolutely do not fancy it.

So you bet I loved these 3 alternatives! I often make the first two at home as well.

Moving on to a dish meat-lovin’ fanatics would kill for! Ahh!

Seared Beef Strip Loin
Calorie Counter: 488 Calories

This well-done beef steak comes served with steamed vegetables and sits atop a bed of mashed sweet potato.

Yes, the sides are nothing of those nasty deep fried potato chips/wedges/fries and typical ketchup aka pub food (Some might call it comfort food but all I see is junk) 🙁

The mushrooms were large and juicy too!

I always prefer my steaks medium well, but to each their own. You can always tell the waiter how cooked/uncooked you want it to be.

This dish is very fragrant as I could smell it the moment it arrived my table. The Chimichurri sauce was a refreshing note to the otherwise heavy flavour of this delicious, grilled Australian Grain-fed slab of meat.

Alright… now that the mains are over and done with, still have space for dessert?

You’d better. 😛 😛

Here’s a mixture of seasonal fruits, sweet potato pie, warm mixed berries and coconut ice cream to induce the first drops of salivation. Heehee.

I was served a mini platter of all the desserts available.

Take your pick!

Warm Mixed Berries served with a dollop of hand-churned coconut ice-cream

This dessert was a sautee  of a variety of berries like strawberries, raspberries and more, with honey and mint.

For the berry sauce, maple syrup and honey are used in replacement of sugar.

The coconut ice cream that came in accompaniment was unlike any other! Dribble

It was smooth with an apparent hints of true coconut taste, yet light and mild – sorbet style! Made with pure coconut milk, this complemented the sourness and sharp taste of the berries so well.

When served together, the pair was a match made in heaven.

Sweet Potato Pie with a dollop of hand-churned coconut ice-cream

The sweet potato pie had a firm yet soft-to-the-bite crust and made without wheat flour.

It wasn’t the crumbly kind which annoyingly disintegrates with a mere prod of a fork.

The filling was smooth and an excellent combination of almond milk, spices and whipped coconut cream.

Bravo to KLGCC’s culinary team and masterminds, Executive Arnold Kwok and his sous chef.

Bear in mind that all dishes in KLGCC’s new healthy menu are cooked without processed foods/ingredients.

So if you’re thinking of indulging in some mouth-watering. exquisite food while watching your waistline, you can finally do so!

I would fully recommend this for any weight-watchers, fitness freaks, fellow health-junkies or any discerning health food enthusiast to relish. Who says healthy food are bland, boring and aesthetically displeasing? Not in a million years.

Being a self-taught clean eating & Paleo chef-at-home myself, I can totally vouch for that.

Always remember, healthy eating is NOT  a fad diet. It’s an active choice, a kind of lifestyle which you choose (or choose not!) to lead.

You are what you eat! It definitely shows.

So what’s my final verdict on the menu, you ask?

Tried, tested and approved with my seal of healthiness.

GIVE ME MORE OF THAT!  Big Smile
