I came. I raved. I loved. Swedish House Mafia : ‘One Last Tour’ LIVE in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia @ Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach

January 22, 2013 by thejessicat

Last Friday was a night of mayhem! Actually, my whole weekend was pretty much a radical one.

But wait, let's talk about Friday first, hey?

Just one look and it's no guessing who they are!

As we all know and having also said in this post, our favourite EDM juggernaut trio Swedish House Mafia have decided to go their separate ways to concentrate on their solo careers.

Embarking on a farewell around the world to personally bid their fans a heart-warming goodbye, they have, among a few other countries, chosen Malaysia to perform for one last time at their aptly named, One Last Tour.

Thanks for the ticket, XPAX! I was all geared up and excited to go already!

I'm sure you can tell. I was impatiently bounding up and down while waiting for some friends!

We got there pretty early, just before 9PM.

It was a long walk towards the Surf Beach, as though hyping us up all month isn't enough already!

En route to the Surf Beach!

We were getting closer and closer to the party zone

Took some photos with the mascots of Greyhound!

Some photos with the fellow partymates.

I figured we ought to grab a few shots first before we all disappeared into the crowd so here they some of them!

Remember this post I wrote which included something about the death of my friend, Elizabeth?

She clearly didn't make it for this Swedish House Mafia's gig that she wanted to attend so badly. So, her friends and family alike gathered in her name tonight and had it all planned to make this her little tribute.

Some of the heart-shaped helium balloons they had brought along to release into the night sky

the moment her favourite song 'Don't You Worry Child' came up.

Are we ready to see Swedish House Mafia LIVE before us for the first and last time?

And so, after all the opening acts, DJ Nikki, Mr. Fluff and DJ Eclipse (Singapore), had finished their set, Swedish House Mafia made their grand appearance half an hour before their scheduled time at 9.30PM sharp.

Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell opened their two-hour set with 'We Came, We Raved, We Loved'

Their opening drove us on high suspense with drumming bass and lightplay on the white veil, before finally dropping those curtains to unveil our favorite Swedish progressive house trio.

The laser show was nothing short of amazing!

Laser beams comprising a psychedelic fusion of colours shone haphazardly into the sky and back throughout their set.

Here are the blue and green ones

Some of the skinnier laser streaks

They had lots of LED animation in the background too. I liked the skull best!

The boys playing one of my favourite songs, 'Antidote' for us!

Anyone knows what those Japanese words say?

They performed a powerful two-hour set for us.

A perfect blend of remixes and various original tracks as individuals and from their two albums (as Swedish House Mafia), Until One and Until Now.

They climbed onto the DJ console to rave with us!

In the first half of their set, they performed 'Nothing But Love' by Axwell, 'KNAS', 'Lights' and 'Show Me Love' by Steve Angello, a remix of 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' by Kanye West, 'The Island' by Pendulum, and their original singles 'Leave the World Behind', 'Calling (Lose My Mind), 'Greyhound' and 'The Island'.

Sebastian Ingrosso playing LIVE drums while 'Resurrection' played

Can you spot me in this rowdy crowd?

"It's good to be here together for the first time with you in Malaysia.

What a beautiful place! Are you having a good time?"

As if things couldn't turn up any higher, Swedish House Mafia began playing a remix of Coldplay's 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' and surprised us with a massive thank you to our country, Malaysia, for hosting them and their One Last Tour here.

What's behind the blast of sparks?

Ta-daa! It's our very own Malaysian flag, the Jalur Gemilang!

The boys began waving it in the air throughout that track

That moment itself was truly a wondrous sight.

Needless to say, patriotism ignited within me and I felt a certain sense of pride for my country all over again.

Thousands and thousands of Malaysians screamed in unison

Another touching, poignant moment for some of us was when the progressive powerhouses began playing the beautiful track, 'Don't You Worry Child', the forth single off their latest album, Until Now.

Yes, Elizabeth…it's time.

This is for you, Eli.

Letting go a pink heart-shaped helium balloon with the words

'RIP Elizabeth with ♥, you're heaven sent'

What really made me burst into tears while singing along to 'Don't You Worry Child' was when that ONE pink balloon didn't make its way up into the sky like the rest of the balloons, but floated directly to Swedish House Mafia during this song.

It was almost as if Eli wanted to be closer to her idols and get the best view of all of her friends gathering there on her behalf.

Steve Angello releasing her into the sky

Even after Steve Angello caught that pink balloon, held it and let it go into the sky again, that pink balloon wasn't ready to leave us all just yet. Guess she still wanted to enjoy herself partying with us all and Swedish House Mafia.

The pink balloon refused to go anywhere and stayed on top of the DJ console.

I recall crying like an emotional wreck. Dang! During a rave? That's a first!

Look at my mascara all smeared. Argh!

Anyway, I soon cheered up again when Swedish House Mafia continued taking the party to the next level with harder, progressive tracks in the second half of their set.

Here's a video I made encapsulating my night.

httpv://youtu.be/rcOC5JGu9eM

Enjoy! I took a while to make this :D

Make sure you watch till the end to catch them performing all their best songs, fireworks blasting, amazing pyrotechnics (fire), crazy laser shows, helium balloons floating in the air and ONE very special pink heart-shaped helium balloon that floated its way directly to Swedish House Mafia when they were performing.

More laser lights shot through the party, fireworks burst out at the stage and into the sky!

The show came complete with pyrotechnics, descending sparks of fire and combustions of flame shots in perfect sync with the heavy beats and bass drops too.

The blue and yellow flames literally turned up the heat where I was standing!

The second half of their set saw them dropping tracks like 'Sweet Disposition' by The Temper Trap, 'Sunrise' by The Aston Shuffle, 'Resurrection' by Michael Calfan, Axwell's remix of 'In My Mind' by Ivan Gough as well as their originals, 'Miami 2Ibiza', 'One (Your Name)', 'Save the World' and yes, again..'Don't You Worry Child'.

An estimated number of more than 22,000 fans were given a spectacular one last show tonight.

We sang along, jumped, danced and partied long and hard despite the sporadic downpour.

Yup, no amount of rain can dampen our spirits.

Certainly not in the name of Swedish House Mafia.

Dear Angello, Ingrosso and Axwell, are you proud of us?

And thanks for the confetti burst.

I had to spend a while getting all the coloured paper off me as I was soaked to the core.

The paper somehow was a chore to peel out LOL

Thank you for choosing Malaysia as one of the few countries to perform your One Last Tour.

If there ever was another chance to party and rave with you boys – even in the rain – I would do it all over again. The show was marvellous, you guys did not disappoint, not even one bit!

Ending the night with a blast!

I wish you well in your solo careers!

A possible collaboration or reunion in the future would be nice. Just saying. Heh. Heh. Heh.

Goodbye Swedish House Mafia, I love you! :kiss

Future Music Festival Asia 2013 returns on an epic scale! Pre-party + First line-up of artistes!

January 19, 2013 by thejessicat

It could've passed off as a regular Wednesday night for anyone, but no… not when Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA) 2013 is concerned.

Last Wednesday night brought down the house with FMFA 2013's first pre-party, comprising a solid line-up whose music and wicked bass resonated the walls of The Butter Factory, KL!

Brought along the other half to enjoy the night with me

Courtesy of Livescape Asia, I was pleased to be invited to the Future Music Festival 2013's first pre-party of the year; it's never too early to hype yourself up!

Not even a weekday night could stop me from saying heck yeah, let's do this.

The peeps behind FMFA 2013 even brought down AN21 and Max Vangeli to spin tonight!

When I arrived, what caught my attention wasn't only the booming sounds by DJ Eva T, but it was also the platoon of face-painted partyrockers dancing right in the middle of the dance floor!

They were congregating just beneath the stage to showcase a pretty epic dance-off amongst each other.

A few of them even beckoned me to join! I totally would have, but as I was carrying my DSLR and few lenses on me, I had to decline. Bummer!

Wouldn't wanna risk dropping my gadgets or losing them in the crowd, would I?

DJ Eva T – dubbed Malaysia's Electronic Dance Music Queen

Watching her tonight and recalling my previous time watching her spin at Hennessy Artistry Halo, she definitely lived up to her title!

Her set was a brilliant fusion of the finest mash-up of electronic dance tracks coupled with with the upbeat & contemporary sounds of electro house.

Watching them dance with their uniquely-painted faces would certainly make anyone do a double take!

Battling it down with some breakdancing, popping, shuffling, locking and dropping!

My view from the VIP deck upstairs

Despite being on the upper deck, I could already feel the dance floor burning up. Good job, guys!

Cooled myself down with the free-flow of Asahi beer after raving along with them

 *hic*

The next artiste on the line up was none other than fast-rising nu-breeds, B.A.T.E.

Duo Wai Hong & Ethan heating up the dance floor even more!

I've also watched them during the Heineken Progressive Party in Penang and during the final instalment of Hennessy Artistry late last year and I'm loving what I'm hearing so far.

Being relatively new in the DJ scene did not stop them from being a popular favourite already!

Turning up the volume with their set of disco, techno, big room and electro tracks tonight.

The face-painted party rockers took to the stage and boogied something that reminded me of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' music video.

Don't stop, take it higher!

On the upper deck, the party was just as crazy, if not crazier!

We were all enjoying the music over the free-flow and finest selection of drinks

Bottles and bottles of Moet & Chandon champagne were being popped at almost every table

Time for the few party photos I snapped with my friends tonight!

With Jo, Konzy and Leng Yein

Kev and I

Konzy and I (yeah I know my face is red already, the Asian flush LOL)

Leng Yein and I

We were projected on the walls of the party too!

Escalating the party to the skies were the main acts of the night, duo AN21 and Max Vangeli.

Their big sounds got the party headbanging with influences of progressive house, electro house and tech house beats, among other EDM sub-genres.

It was fun watching the two best friends play LIVE before me!

You must be wondering… why does AN21 look familiar?

Doesn't he resemble Steve Angello (of Swedish House Mafia) a little?

Well, that's because AN21 is Steve Angello's brother!

The party went on all night till the wee hours of the morning

It's not everyday you get to watch AN21 and Max Vangeli spin ya'know!

Tonight's pre-party sure as hell got me all fired up for Future Music Festival Asia 2013.

Two days back-to-back of the most epic Asian instalment of an international music festival yet!

Are you going?

I couldn't hear what you just said, but I'm sure it's a YES

I can't wait to relive the party again… last year's Future Music Festival Asia 2012 was a blast.

Swedish House Mafia is coming to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for their ONE LAST TOUR!

January 7, 2013 by thejessicat

When recurrent rumours of Swedish House Mafia's 'One Last Tour' concert LIVE in Malaysia were proven true and confirmed to be held in early January 2013,  I was over the moon!

The world's biggest electronica trio will be performing for us in Malaysia for the very first time (and the last!)

These incredibly talented progressive-house DJs and producers from Sweden has announced that they will making their final tour around the world as a way of saying goodbye before disbanding and going their separate ways.

It must be our lucky day! Malaysia was one of the chosen countries!

Being a massive fan of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and one who often blog about gigs, raves and parties revolving around the EDM scene, I absolutely cannot wait to give them the biggest send-off of their lives at the biggest farewell tour in concert history!

The boys behind Swedish House Mafia – Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell & Steve Angello

During the countdown launch of the confirmed gig, something out of the ordinary happened.

Doesn't this remind you of the Bat signal shone into the sky? :D

Swedish House Mafia logo was seen on KL Tower that night!

No better way to kick off the year's entertainment scene than a mind-blowing rave party, ey?

Thank you so much XPAX, for bringing them down to Malaysia

I'm certain you've put a big, wide smile on thousands of fellow EDM fans across Malaysia (and even those in the neighbouring regions!) for giving us the chance to say our last goodbyes!

Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge Race Party Great Britain @ Penang Turf Club

January 5, 2013 by thejessicat

I know, I know! Don't chastise me. This blogpost is late, tell me something I don't know LOL

Many of you have been asking me about my Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Great Britain post.

Nadia & I at the official photowall, flanked by the usherettes

Guests and A-listers were in for a treat once again, at Johnnie Walker's VIP race party, as they threw their signature Black Circuit Lounge event – with a distinctly British twist this time!

I was excited to be flown to Penang again to attend Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Great Britain :D

Read my previous adventures at Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Brazil & Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Penang

The flight was pleasant, with a slight turbulence but it felt like I traversed two different universes altogether.

I was sweating buckets whilst boarding the plane from KL due to its sweltering heatwave, blistering sun and humidity. But as I alighted the plane 45 minutes later in Penang, it was unbelievably, very cold as the heavy downpour soaked our backs and shoes :/

That's Malaysian weather for you. Unpredictable. Tsktsktsk.

Anyway, no matter. I was buzzing with excitement for tonight nonetheless! :D:D

Arriving Penang International Airport & met the chauffeur.

As the dress code for tonight's event was 'British Glamour' I wanted to (as always!) stick as closely to the theme as possible. The event was aptly held simultaneously during the London Olympics hype as well!

So after some research…

I came dressed in a velvet red bowler hat, a trenchcoat, a classy long asymmetrical dress,

dark blue nailpolish, two floral rings, laced-up boots & a Union Jack handbag

Hope that worked! :D

We were treated to international & local cuisine during the buffet dinner at Gurney Hotel.

Here are some of the dishes at the buffet spread!

There was also a carving station for grilled meat. Hello chefs!

After a fulfilling meal, guests were driven to Penang Turf Club – a historical racecourse built by the British – where the party was at.

I was quite thrilled to see how the equestrian club as transformed into a party scene just for one night!

This way please

As expected, there were door greeters dressed as traditional London royal palace guards.

Men in uniforms never fail to make an impression on me. Hubba-hubba!

Salute!

Took some piccies at the Johnnie Walker photowall with some friends!

Bumped into buddy Ren at the entrance

One of the many suave ushers of the party

Whilst mingling at the entrance, I was asked to speak in front of the camera for the video footage of the event. I think I spoke about what I thought of the event thus far, what I see/feel and what I'm expecting from the party by the end of the night! :D

Yadda yadda I go for the camera :P

((STYLESHOT OF THE DAY))

Jessicat wears : Beige asymmetrical dress & Union Jack handbag from online stores |

Accessories by Diva | Velvet Bowler Hat in red by Deeper & Harder | Boots from a bazaar in Australia

Stepping inside the Black Circuit, I caught sight of many Formula 1 related merchandise, ones by their corporate partners McLaren Mercedes & Vodafone to be exact.

Some of the stuff on display!

Being essentially a race party, there were F1 racing sound effects accompanying us along the corridor.

With every step I took, sharp-but-not-too-piercing sounds of BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! VROOOOOOOOOOM! of race-cars followed thereafter.

Watch out! The race-cars are hot on your heels!

Finally made my way into the arena.

It was really huge, quite an elaborately decorated interior & was already packed with guests!

The color scheme of the lighting changed periodically from almost all the colours of the rainbow!

The walls were also plastered with interesting visuals of Great Britain and its landmarks

Photobooths were in abundance everywhere.

This is just one of them –

Photoception. Took a photo of the photobooth taking a photo of me taking a photo of this moment LOL

Bumped into buddy Minny whilst I was inside.

She was working as one of the usherettes for the event and collected my signature to Join the Pact.

Minny & I

Join the Pact? What's that?

As Johnnie Walker advocates responsible drinking, their worldwide social initiative was built around the message of : Winners Always Stay in Control.

Consumers were encouraged to pledge their signatures to Join the Pact to Never Drink & Drive.

I've given my pledge!  :D

Kenny & I have JOINED THE PACT – what about you? Never Drink and Drive

because Winners Always Stay in Control

Getting my drinks at the bar. Johnnie Walker's wide variety of cocktails surely kept me coming back for more

Kenny, Hui Wen and I at our table

Cindy & I. She kept getting more and more cocktails even before I could finish mine!

Ringo & I. Cheers!

After a while, I found out that I had missed DJ DIrect's set. He came all the way from the USA and I didn't get to watch him? ;(

Nnnnnnooooooooooooo! S'alright, I guess. Bet he got the partyball rolling pretty well

DJane Geri on the decks

I managed to party to homegrown Malaysian spin artist DJane Geri.

One of our rising female DJs in the country elevated our moods with popular electro and hip hop tracks.

Spin it, babeh! :D

She posed for the camera when I snapped! :D

After DJane Geri's set, it was time for Taiwanese DJ RayRay.

She spun herself into the music scene when she was only 15 years old. Not bad!

Today, she is one of Taiwan's most popular DJs

London-themed visuals flashed across the backdrop screen as she tore up the dancefloor

Tonight, she dropped a mix of old skool, funk, disco & electro tracks

Cindy, Jane, Ringo & I. We girls enjoyed DJ RayRay's set!

Charles and I by the bar

Adjacent to my table was David, one of my friends from Penang, along with Sheena & Michelle :)

Buddy Kate came by my table to say hi!

Eclectic stage dancers entertained us with their sexy dance routines

Bumped into more homies from Penang!

One of the reasons why I love attending parties back on my little island

– my schoolmates and the people I grew up with!

Jason and I with our drinks

Before I knew it, popular Taiwan-based emcee, MC Royal came over & made a toast with me and we chugged our smooth, fine Black Label whiskey.

He then challenged me to a three second slug of the bottle – to which, I had no problems with.

I upstaged his challenge at 5 seconds! :D

Over the years, slugging directly from the bottle has become quite a routine for me at parties.

I am notorious with my drinks like that. Heh.heh.heh. :P:P

But ever since I've joined the pact at the previous Johnnie Walker Black Label Circuit party, I only skull my drinks neat when I AM NOT THE DESIGNATED DRIVER.

Always stay safe on the road, peeps!

Apart from hard liquor, I fancy my exotic cocktails as well. Extra points if I've not heard/tasted it before

This time round, I was served British tea-inspired whiskey cocktails

Johnnie Walker mixologist Josh Ivanovic showed me how it was intricately done

Fusing the powerful, bold flavours of Johnnie Walker Black Label with the sweet, aromatic taste of tea, it was the best of both worlds in my glass.

The method of preparation was complex and was served in style!

This gave me an excellent idea for a unique tea party. Teehee! :D

When the lighting changed into bright golden yellow beams and the visuals warped from Johnnie Walker Black Label montages to animated graphics of Johnnie Walker Gold Label

Classy.

Johnnie Walker models paraded onstage with the Gold Label and sparklers fizzled & gleamed from the top of the bottles they had in their hands.

This was probably the apex of the night! :D

Shiny golden confetti soon burst out and cloaked the arena with shimmery gold!

I was practically covered in them, my bag and drinks included LOL

See what I mean? haha! :D

Jane and I when the confetti showers were ongoing

Behold, the dazzling, extravagant Johnnie Walker Gold Label in all its glory

Hui Wen and I sipping on our Johnnie Walker Gold Labels

(Yes I know I look a tad buzzed & flushed by now. It was 2AM already mind you! LOL)

Leng Yein jiejie and I by the bar

To save the best for last, headlining act DJ Benji Boko was flown in all the way from the United Kingdom to raise the temperature of the party even further!

He was dropping us some nasty, booming tracks from a decidedly British set list!

Instantly recognizable with his huge Afro & his monkey alter-ego,

Benji Boko certainly injected heaps of fun to party

Don't stop the music, Benji!

Check out the video of the night! (You can spot me at 0.23secs & 1.56secs whee!)

We partied till the wee hours of the morning – which ended with a bang!

It was truly wonderful to have reunited and partied with so many of my long lost friends, friends from the industry and of course, made many new ones too

Friends friends friends… everywhere! What's a party without good company of your buddies? :D

Thank you for a marvellous and a very "English" weekend! I enjoyed the party to the core

See you at the next Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge party!

ELEVATE Ipoh! The finale rocks Perak’s brand new hotspot – Sensation of Sound (SOS)

December 4, 2012 by thejessicat

When a party is set to hit a small town you spent your childhood in, you know it will only spell a whole new experience.

I accepted the invitation with full anticipation when Ipoh, Perak was the chosen destination of ELEVATE’s finale of its nation-wide series of events.

My plus one & I

It’s the last ELEVATE party of the year – already?

Throughout the year, partygoers from all over the country didn’t need to travel all the way to KL city to partyrock the night away. ELEVATE brought the party to the revellers instead.

I’ve personally attended a couple of ELEVATE events – ELEVATE Penang & ELEVATE KL.

Two out of the total number of six parties which was also held in Malacca, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Kuching… and tonight, it’s time for ELEVATE Ipoh to wrap it all up with a fantastic closure

The latest dance club in Ipoh was the chosen partyzone

Growing up in this little quaint state, one would quite naturally assume that I know everything there is to know about it.

Before you request I point you in the right direction of Ipoh’s best clubbing scene… Sorry to break it to you, I can’t LOL. It is rather surprising (even to me!) that I’ve never once partied within the grounds of Ipoh’s townscape before.

You can’t ever miss the neon prism-like hotspot that is

Sensation of Sound (SOS) located along Jalan Raja Ekram!

We arrived in all shades of blue, adhering to ELEVATE’s colour theme.

The venue was already packed with guests as early as 9.30pm! Hmm.. that’s something vastly different from the KL club scene where partygoers would only begin to flock the venue just before midnight.

Soaking in everything Ipoh’s partyscene has to offer

To warm-up the party before it set off, we were first entertained by SOS’s very own in-house entertainment.

Their DJ was spinning us electronic & RnB tunes

And their nine-piece Filipino live band

They belted various renditions of popular songs ranging from the classics, alternative rock, rap, to the latest chart-topping pop hits.

We enjoyed the free-flow of Carlsberg for the night. There was plenty to go around!

Us with some local Ipoh friends!

Girls decked in blue & our boys in grey

The other half & I

Chillin’ on one of the many comfy, velvety red lounge seats in SOS!

Suddenly, the lights dimmed and we were shrouded in darkness

The music took us by storm and local dance crew Elecoldxhot, fully clad in robotic LED gear appeared before us!

They worked their tight & well-synchronized routines on stage

Some of them were breakdancing, while others were shuffling, popping & locking!

They ended their first performance bearing ELEVATE’s logo in a creative formation of their arms!

After a short interval, the next performance gave us something to jump right outta our seats to dance and sing along with.

Any guesses? There was no surprise when the band belted out the ever-contagious, annoyingly amusing song of the year, Gangnam Style! :D:D

The lead singer was even dressed to mimic Psy!

Heeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy! Sexy lady!

All of us, myself included, went on a frenzy and galloped along to the rhythmic horse-riding moves that made the song hilariously popular in the first place.

It was certainly a sight to see! Partygoers, both young and old were seen doing the exact same dance moves. Gangnam Style is no doubt, a phenomenon that is here to stay!

Elecoldxhot joined the fun and gangnam-styled on stage too

We had so much fun! That certainly cranked up the mood of the party.

Really, now… what’s a party without Gangnam Style nowadays, huh? ;)

Just being silly

More party pictures ensued. It was lovely catching up with familiar faces that night!

Elecoldxhot took to the stage again – this time, in a different apparel.

They were donning their signature vibrant & colourful streetwear this time

How smooth can these boys move?

Sparks lit up the stage and fizzled for a good few minutes

Their closing dance was certainly a bang!

Confetti burst out in the open and engulfed the dance floor with shimmery tinsels of blue and silver.

Some of the shiny paper even landed on our faces and got into our glasses of beer, from where we were standing!  No matter, all in the name of good fun!

We had to fetch ourselves new drinks though, just before the free-flow ended at midnight.

DJ Yasmin raises the temperature!

We needn’t have to wait long before our final act stole the limelight & took full control of the night.

It was great to have this petite beauty hailing all the way from Jakarta, Indonesia, right here with us!

Tonight, she not only played uplifting trance beats but also house, techno and dubstep as well

Such a paparazzi shot, no? :P:P

The party kept going for what felt like all night long! However, all good things must come to an end.

ELEVATE officially ended when the doors swung open to the public just after midnight, but this can only mean the more the merrier!

As expected, the venue got even more packed with people than it already is, all in the name of a hectic, buzzing Saturday night.

Thank you, once again, ELEVATE, for having me at your train of parties throughout Malaysia!

Check out KL and Penang’s ELEVATE previous events respectively for more!
