Scream! FREEDOM freaky-spooky-horror rave party feat. Dutch DJs Ummet Ozcan + Leon Bolier

December 4, 2011 by thejessicat

I live and breathe parties, especially rave ones of booming electronic dance music with wicked basslines

And FREEDOM, proved to be one of the most stellar series of rave parties yet again.

The previous FREEDOM event I attended was the one 4 months ago in the lovely island of Penang

The party had a blue theme, but this time round, the theme was one of my faves ever!

FREEDOM rave – with a spooky twist!

As you might've already known if you're a loyal reader, I simply adore costume parties – or fancy dress parties – or whatever you call it, cos it's so much for fun. Just as long as there's a theme to adhere to, count me in!

The more extreme or outrageous, the better

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

When I arrived the venue, I had a tremendous – albeit pleasant – shock of my life!

Not only haven't I stepped foot in KL Live for as long as I can remember (as I was abroad most of the year), but FREEDOM has certainly transformed the place into a dungeon of horor!

Greeted by the Count Dracula + stone gargoyles + tombstones + cobwebs at the entrance

Stepped inside to see an extensive graveyard barricaded by spiked fencing + ghouls dangling from the ceiling

I could even hear (pre-recorded) eerie screams & laughter from the corners!

There was a smoke machine in motion too.

Aye, foggy foggy, misty graveyard!

So what am I? A devilish, flesh-eating zombie with Freddy Krueger claws haha!

When I brought my clan to party with me, I implored that they ALL dress up for the occasion.

I know it's the Malaysian party-culture to get lazy/uninvolved in such active participation of themeparties whatsoever but no, I shall not condone going to a themeparty in a pair of jeans & tshirt.

And neither will my friends!

It's time to up the freak factor!

Darryl and I bleeds it out!

Vic and I, bloodthirsty vamps for more of your blood

So…. who says Malaysians don't dress up according to the theme?

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

I'll kickstart the revolution if I had to 😉

Say hello to one (amongst many others) that will!

So as I said before, about how FREEDOM's Scream Your Choice party set-up was really impressive, check out more of what they've got done up. The entire stage was adapted into a giant tombstone!

With loads of spooks roaming around everywhere!

Just as you thought Halloween was over, yeah? 😉

No. Not quite over, methinks.

I liked the 2 giant gargoyles mounted atop the stage which flanked the DJ spinning for the night

Dutch DJ Ummet Ozcan was one of the DJs spinning for the night

I checked out his tracks on Youtube. My faves are Arcadia and Timewave Zero!

He's pretty damn good. Could see the crowd tearing up the dance floor already

My buddies and I

What really got me going, apart from the deep, dark trance/electro/house beats of course, was the fact that this terror dungeon was full of party mascots mingling with the crowd! They were the side-acts of the night.

Here are a few which I managed to catch for a photo :

The Mummy!

A Pontianak (Malay vampire)

Guess who? It's my all-time favorite bad-ass villain!

None other than…….. Chucky the murderdoll!

And heaps more 🙂

Now that's such an awesome way to freak the shizz outta partygoers

We were treated to a freeflow of bloody cocktail, Cranberry Vodka for the night

T'was yummy… and the lychee reminded me of floating eyeballs haha!

Anyway, more random party photos of ze clan and I from the horror rave night!

Ze clan and I

Before we knew it, the next Dutch DJ of the night, Leon Bolier took to the stage!

He was just as electrifiying as the previous DJ if not better  Summernight Confessions was cosmic!

GOGOGOGOGOGO Leon Bolier!

Neon, colorful laser lights were bounding all around the walls in sync with his wicked beat drops

RAWWRRRRR!!!

Another one of my rave kakis Reze!

My entire party entourage of the night, altogether in one group photo!

Major loves and scares!

Thank you, once again, FREEDOM, for bringing down kick-ass electronica DJs and for an amzing party experience!

I got home just as bruised, battered and bleeding as I was when I first stepped into the party! 😉

Alls well, end's well.

It's never too late for a spooky thrill!

Week Recap : GLOBAL presents electro-pop Brazilian DJ ‘The Twelves’ + NSFW presents ‘Don’t Believe the Hype’ featuring electro German DJs Beens n YKEL

November 25, 2011 by thejessicat

Hola! A snippet of what I've been up to this week thus far.

Been busy with workies and of course, rave parties!

If you missed it, check out the wicked parties that has been happening throughout this week

GLOBAL presents 'The Twelve' @ Zouk Club KL

One of my rave-kakis, Pinpin!

The Twelves are an electro-pop duo that hit our Malaysian shores all the way from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 🙂

Dubbed the Daft Punk of Brazil, The Twelves comprise Luciano Oliveira and João Miguel

Ready to watch them play?

Luciano Oliveira of The Twelves takes the turntables!

Work it, work it!

Bumped into so many pals I couldn't keep hold of everyone for a group photo!

So here we are again, just by the DJ decks

Next event is one of the famed NSFW raves we have in our local party scene

Don't Believe the Hype featuring DJ Rob 'Beens' & YKEL @ The Gardens Rooftop

They're hot, they play kick-ass electro beats and they sure know how to demolish the dance floor!

I'd just like to put it out there. Rob and Ykel are such warm & friendly lads to hang out with!

Rob and I was chatting in the afternoon and asked me to join them for drinks before their set – to which I did.

The boys DJ Rob 'Beens' and DJ YKEL

Hung out with the boys for a bit and we talked about heaps of stuff despite the loud music that was booming through the speakers! 🙂 YKEL taught me some simple German words haha!

As I *might* be in Europe for a week, Rob told me to check out their fave clubs in Germany 🙂

DJ Blink and Xu of LapSap, my local fave homeboy DJs were the opening act for the night

Was given heaps of Jagermeister shots too, thanks Rob!

Shotshotshots everybuddy!

At 1am, it was DJ Rob 'Beens' turn to tear up the DJ decks. His set was simply wicked!

His electro tracks boomed through the speakers and those infectious beats really got me going

Can youuuu feeeeeeeeeeeeeeel the paaartay escalate? 😀

An hour later, at 2am, DJ YKEL took to the decks and played alongside DJ Beens.

It turned up the party dial even harder. Double the DJs, double the fun!

Awesome shizz you guys had going!

They made my night truly spectacular.

Also, what made my day was that when I was shuffling and raving on the dance floor, a reader recognized me and was gracious enough to offer to buy me a drink! That was so nice of him 🙂

With reader Keem 🙂 Thanks again for the drink, my fave Baileys on the rocks

Dearest DJ Rob 'Beens' and YKEL, t'was a pleasure to get to know the both of you.

All the best for your gig this Friday & Saturday in Germany and haben einen sicheren flug!

Paul Van Dyk LIVE in Malaysia 2011 | Evolution World Tour @ Helipad, Sepang International Circuit

October 27, 2011 by thejessicat

Two raves in two consecutive days!!? Geez. I must be insane.

Paul Van Dyk's EVOLUTION World Tour is arguably one of the biggest rave parties I've ever been to!

Got there at 9PM

As we were there early, there were other DJ opening acts before Paul Van Dyk's set at midnight.

3 homeboy DJs MisterAriffin, Ian Ross & Phil K Lee (Darkroom Tales) Terrence C and Italian DJ Giuseppe Ottaviani. They hyped up the crowd from 7PM till 12AM.

Still early! The crowd was beginning to build up

With my fellow ravers! Meng, Kerynne, Abel & Shaun 😀

Edwin & I

Homeboys Phil K Lee and Ian Ross!

So while the other DJs played, I kept moving around trying to find a perfect spot to stand.

The DJ console was placed up so high that standing directly beneath it would only allow me to see the tip of the DJ's nose LOL. Hmm.. I kept fidgeting around for a perfect spot with a good view to rave and take photos.

Found my spot. A diagonal left from Paul Van Dyk's DJ console

While waiting for PvD to begin, I chilled with my friends by the cabana

Italian DJ and producer Giuseppe Ottaviani came on scene next

He's produced many tracks and quite a few under Paul Van Dyk's label before too!

Woohoo!

Psychedelic!

He's pretty damn good

Hey Ed what happened to your glowsticks? haha

The couzzies and I 😀

Keep going! You're amazing

DJ Terrence C was next

Finally, when all the opening acts were over and done with, the clock struck midnight. it was time for the star of the show, Paul Van Dyk to take over the decks for a night of mayhem!

Just a wee bit excited. Or maybe a whole lot? 😛

A bit of camwhoring just before PvD's set!

And another one! 😀 Teehee

And suddenly my night has came to life even more than it already has.

Our legendary Trance DJ-producer took to the stage!! I've been waiting all week for this!

All hail Paul Van Dyk!

Let's get the party started, shall we? 😀

Here's a video of his grand entrance. Better watch it! It's worth your 5 minutes or so

It starts out slowly, but gradually builds the momentum & blasts off! 😀 😀

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf1ACFH_vnI

He was beyond amazing

The stage lighting and  its bass syncing was very impressive!

Crazy!

the lights boomed with every bass drop!

Lightplay was magnificent

The visuals kept changing every few seconds!

Must've cost heaps to make it happen!

World No. 1 DJ, Paul Van Dyk in the flesh. Again, my life is complete :D

He played the all-time favorite and famous track of 1998, 'For an Angel' as well as others like 'Crush', 'Time of Our Lives', 'Let Go', 'Cream' and his other summer mixes and played a remix of Tritonal track too.

I swear if he plays for any less than 1 hour, imma scream for an encore!

Gogogo PvD!!

T'was awesome how PvD jumped along with us and raved too!

I could see the crew members preparing a canon-lookalike thing that was expected to shoot or explode mid-way of PvD's set. I was so worried that it was going to be flames, fireworks or dry ice!

As I was directly beside the canon, I didn't want to get charcoal burnt or injured in the process LOL

BUT GUESS WHAT SHOT OUT FROM THE CANONS INSTEAD??

 😀 😀

It was streamers and confetti!

Heaps of it! The canon fired 4 shots of it altogether!

It was raving mad; without a doubt.

The party didn't end till almost 3AM!

With the couzzies by the cabana towards the end of the gig

Thank you Celcom XPAX for bringing Paul Van Dyk down to Malaysia at the XPLAY Future Sound System!

It was an incredible rave

Photos by Edwin & I.

I had an amazing time. Many thanks to Celcom XPAX and Nuffnang for sponsoring my ticket :)

As Paul Van Dyk would say, "this is the time of our lives" and I couldn't agree more!

Headed home fully exhausted yet ecstatic from the trippin' weekend!

Need I say more? 😀

Global presents Laidback Luke LIVE in Malaysia @ Zouk Club KL! We welcome this Dutch hottie on the decks!

October 22, 2011 by thejessicat

Last night was fabulous! I zoomed off early to catch Laidback Luke's gig in my 2nd home, Zouk KL.

Although this isn't the first time I'm watching this kick-ass House/Electro-House DJ spin – my 1st time raving to him was in Zouk Out 2010 in Singapore – I couldn't contain my excitement all week to catch him live in my very own city!

Off to partayy, babeh! 😀

So we got there pretty early, the crowd was beginning to build up.

Our homeboys DJ Blink &Goldfish as well as Holland's DJ Sandro Silva were the opening acts for Dutch DJ Laidback Luke. No pictures because I wasn't exactly inside the Zouk mainroom yet.

Was outside chilling but I could hear their beats!

When Laidback Luke finally appeared to begin playing his set, the crowd went insane.

It was announced that it was his birthday!

Tequila shots were served by Luke, courtesy of Luke himself!

He personally prepared them too!!! :D

(I could see him doing it at the back while Sandro Silva was spinning)

Thanks for the picture Edwin!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUKE, YOU HOTTIE!

Another year, another mad-awesome series of rave parties hey?

He kickstarted his party with pretty freakin' awesome tracks and remixes.

Everyone had their hands in the air!

Atta boy!

His deft skills on the turntables were impressive!

Yo DJ spin that shit! 😀 😀

It's a turbulence in the house!

I totally fell in love with his set last night! I had expected it to be some one-long set, but no…

Laidback Luke spun for 2 hours! Wooohoooo!!!!

What song next Luke? 😀

Confession : I couldn't keep my eyes off him during his entire set! *shy*

During one of his tracks, I made eye contact with him OMG! I stretched my hand towards him spontaneously

And and and and!!

HE REACHED OUT TOO, TOUCHED MY HAND, SHOOK IT AND SMILED AT ME!!!

I swear I died for 5 seconds and resurrected.

He's amazing!

It was truly poppin'!

The energy reverberating within the walls of Zouk Mainroom was like no other!

The crowd was raving hard, long, and wild… both upstairs and downstairs to Laidback Luke's wicked beats

Don't stop! Let the party rock!

Horrid photo of me because I was sweating buckets after all that jumping, raving and headbanging!!

But I didn't have the heart to delete it cos it's my only photo with Laidback Luke  Teeehee.

A very disheveled me with Laidback Luke spinning in the background 😀

Champagne, anyone? 😀

Keep it rockin, DJ!

He played all my fave songs of his – Heartbreaker, Natural Disaster, Timebomb and Turbulence. Luke also remixed a few other artists' songs such as ones by Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Daft Punk, Benny Benassi and more.

But what really got me thrilled was when he played heavy dubstep beats!

Plus, he's ssssssssoooooo cuuute! 😀

*swoons*

With pals Pamela and Edwin 😀

During the set there were some idiotic baboons who waved 1 buck and 2 bucks cash towards Luke and tried shoving it to him. Like WTF?

Excuse me you moron, do you think Laidback Luke is playing for charity? Or busking to put food on his table?

He was gracious enough to politely decline the money. I felt so insulted for him it's ridiculous!

Luke's an internationally recognized DJ. Your "donation" is prolly worth 2 cents to him -__-"

We gonna partay all night!

Oh and I video-ed some footages to show you how it was LIVE.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idh8Os-JsGg

Here's a short montage of him spinning last night!

Sorry I couldn't video more, was too busy partying with Laidback Luke!! 😀

Oh and to save the best for last…

Remember when he served his party people tequila shots in conjunction with his birthday?

I kept his shotglass

*euphoric skips*
