NEW HAIR FOR THE NEW YEAR AT A CUT ABOVE!

February 28, 2014 by thejessicat

 Hiya dearest readers!

Today’s feature will be about my new hairdo done by my amazing sponsors, A Cut Above.

They’re the one and only hair salon I’d go and trust to get anything hair-related done!

From simple things like hair trimming and hair dying to chemically altering procedures like hair rebonding & perming, all the way to total makeovers, A Cut Above is the only place I’d recommend.

Trust me on this, they’re so capable that they’ve even rescued me from an atrocious hair disaster by a hair salon I was previously affiliated to.

Anyway, let’s see what hairdo they surprised me with today.

Hi there! Yes, it’s me in both photos –  three hours apart.

BEFORE VS AFTER

I adjourned to A Cut Above in Mid Valley Megamall directly after work to get my hair done.

Yes, yes. I got it just before I left for the Chinese New Year holidays! Pretty last minute, I know, but work has been hectic and that Tuesday night at 7PM was the only slot available on my schedule! Phew. Undecided

The moment I got there after a long day, it was nice to have my stylist Raymond greet me with a smile and usher me to my seat. Feeling Good

Without wasting any time, we got started immediately.

He began examining my hair before deciding what was best to do with it in under 3 hours.

He advised me to get my red hair recoloured (clearly it was fading off!), a hair treatment and a hair trim. Could everything possibly be done under three hours? Wow. Okay, hit me!

Raymond preparing my hair for the dying process.

As I loved the ombre red (pic above) that the talented Datin Winnie dear gave me on my previous visit, he decided to stick with the ombre red too this time round.

But first, selfies! Raymond and I.

Ombre red process in motion.

I’ve been a red-head all my life. Well technically not ALL MY LIFE as I wasn’t born with red hair (How I wish! Damn, those rangas) Yell

But the moment I graduated from high school back in 2006 and was no longer bound by rules of acceptable hair colour, I turned it bright red the very next day. Many a time I’ve contemplated giving myself a different colour  but no… it really has grown on me after all these years, till a point that it is now recognized as a trademark!

Who else is known as the red headed blogger for the longest time ever? No one but me.

So the red head blogger I shall remain – till the day I die! Ha Ha

It was fascinating to see so many hands work on my hair at the same time.

Looks like many hands do not spoil the broth in this case, but make light work instead!

After all the aluminium foil and dye have been set, they put me under this ring of doom.

Nah, just kidding! It was  a heat ring that rotates on an axis to ensure the heat is dispersed evenly to every section of the hair.

While I was getting my red hair done, buddy Shannon got her hair dark purple.

T’was fun having her around with me tonight as I’m usually all alone when I get my hair done.

Thanks for this awesome photo, girl! I like this top-down shot of me getting my hair washed.

After the hair wash, they wrapped my head in a towel like this.

Now I know how I would possibly look like if I was donning modern Muslimah fashion!

To keep my hair shiny and healthy, my stylist Raymond applied a hair treatment for me.

It helps to lock in my new hair colour too! My hair was wrapped up again and placed inside a steamer.

Treatment is over! They unbundled my hair and gave it a wash.

Raymond then began to blow-dry my hair.

I was thrilled when I saw my bright red ombre hair in the mirror!

The red head is back again yay!

Evidently,  I was already way too excited seeing myself with red hair again.

After blow-drying my hair, Raymond then decided to re-shape my hair and started to trim it. This was because my hair was cut into an asymmetrical bob on my previous visit as I had really short hair back then.

I was so insecure and self-conscious about the length of my hair as it was my first time having such a short cut but Datin Winnie created that look for me and I loved it instantly!

Love how it’s longer on one side and short on the other. She’s super creative!

Another funky short bob that she created for me.

Master craftwizard of the scizzors, is what I think of when I see her.

Look at this #GetSassooned daring, choppy and angular bob she did for supermodel Amber Chia!

I can imagine what a challenge it was for Datin Winnie as extremely short hair that suits the model perfectly isn’t easy to create.

Anyway, after almost 2 years of having short hair, I decided to have my waist-long hair again.

So Raymond had to give me a new cut so it wouldn’t look odd when it gets long.

He moved on to my fringe. I wanted my sharp bangs back but slightly longer this time.

Layering the top part of my fringe.

 And Raymond goes snip snip!

I’m very particular about my fringe but A Cut Above has never failed me nor given me a bad haircut. So I was very assured!

And he’s done! Now moving on to the back of my hair to give it a straighter cut that will last till my hair grows long.

Here’s the back before Raymond worked on it.

Obviously I can’t see how it looks like when this photo was being taken! 😀

Ooooh what’s happening? Raymond working his magic.

After about half an hour or so…

I’m done! 😀 Yipppeee!

I began snapping selfies of my new hairdo immediately. Was so excited to show you guys the before and after!

Since buddy Shannon was done as well, we decided to share our selfie fun together too.

Me in my red ombre + Shannon in her dark purplish tone.

It’s a little difficult to see any colour on her as it was a really dark shade. But it’s more obvious in real life! 😀

Take One, Take Two!

Another one from us. Thanks for the photos, girl!

Another selfie just before we left.

I know, I know… you’re probably wondering where the before and after is.

Here it is again:

Yes, it’s the same person – only with a different hairdo!

There’s more! I figured that the full frontal view wouldn’t suffice for my curious readers. 😀 😀 So for easier comparison, I snapped it from all angles – left, right, back & front to put in a collage.

 BEFORE

 AFTER

I love it and enjoyed my session.

Thanks Raymond, for a beautiful haircut and a very nicely done colour!

If you want a friendly, helpful and informative stylist like mine, look for Raymond.

As always, thank you very much, to the team at A Cut Above!

Rest assured your hair will always be treated with utmost care and precision.

You’ll certainly be in good hands of these professionals with each visit.

Need a home tutor or tutoring jobs? Try hometuitionjob.com

February 20, 2014 by thejessicat

To much disbelief (unless you knew me since I was a kid/teenager), I’ve always been the studious, geeky, academically-driven girl.

Education was vital to me, not because I liked conforming to Asian stereotypes of getting string of As in every subject and every year, but I find it a personal virtue to strive to be the best in everything I do – studies included.

I remember being an Additional Mathematics tutor back in high school.

This trait still remains in me till today.

I too, used to go for tuition classes after school and my parents would hire home tutors for me, especially during those crucial years of national examinations such as PTS, UPSR, PMR and SPM (Malaysian equivalent of the GCE O-levels).

Yes, this is me. This ridiculously young 16 year old with her History textbook.

(Please tell me I haven’t aged a day? I still look the same, right? Right right right?) Tongue Out

Acknowledgement for my Biology distinction back in school.

Couldn’t do it without teachers and tuition classes!  Wink

A few hours of extra classes will really do your grades good; I attribute my distinctions to my teachers and tutors.

Tuition classes, especially home tutoring, can really do wonders in helping you to fully grasp the curriculum, understand the concepts in your syllabus and improve exam preparations.

Big Smile Now, how about that?

Imagine this  scenario.

It’s a hub that connects local tutors with students! Cool

Amazing, right? Speaking of academics, I’d definitely recommend this site for home tutoring for both, students and home-tutors.

Hometuitionjob.com is the top tuition job website in Malaysia created to find both tutors and jobs for tutors for yourself or your children.

Wow. Should I go back to tutoring English and Additional Mathematics. Sounds like a good idea. Big Smile

My classmates and I. Not a single one of us didn’t go for tuition classes.

Yes because we want flawless distinctions like that Tongue Out

Yeah, yeah, Asians and their thirst for success.

On the ‘Find Tutor’ tab, you can search your local area for tutors tailored to your needs.

Just enter your location, your subject matter, and how close to your area you wish to search, and a list of registered tutors will show you the available tutors in your area.

Are you good in academics or ace n a certain subject/field? Don’t let your interest and skills go to waste. Go impart your knowledge and teach someone! Smile

If you want to be a tutor or if you’re a tutor looking for a job, you can search the ‘Find Job’ tab to look for advertised jobs in your area.

Good luck in searching for your potential student/potential tutor!  Feeling Good

More importantly, all the best in your exams.

Presenting the House of Guinness – Phat Barrels KL @ Publika Shopping Gallery

January 25, 2014 by thejessicat

With the walls of this brand new tavern plastered with interesting beer-oriented decor and teeming with all things Guinness, it is no wonder why Phat Barrels KL is heralded the ‘House of Guinness’.

This latest addition to Publika’s line-up of watering holes had a seemingly cosy your-local-neighbourhood-pub setting to it, with dark wooden furnishings, exposed brickwork, bare granite walls, tall beer barrel-shaped tables and olden-day, monochrome artwork illuminated by dim spotlighting.

By the bar of Phat Barrels! Cool

Yes, you peeps totally should. Why? Read on. 😀

Last Thursday, I was invited to the soft launch of Phat Barrels for a night of live music, delicious pub grub, imported/micro-brews/hand-crafted beers and an engaging atmosphere.

New kid on the block is looking packed on the first day!

Let’s give this new watering hole a little tour, shall we? Big Smile

Celebrations always seem synonymous with balloons, streamers and bright colours!

(( Outfit of the day)) Jessicat wears:

Dress by Miss Selfridge |Black pumps a gift from dearest Uncle Mike

| Accessories by Diva | Bag from a bazaar in Singapore

 Gorgeous usherettes serving us canapes!

The overall look and feel of Phat Barrels KL

Patrons enjoying their beer towers and munchies!

Sephia Guinness-themed artwork framed on the walls.

Here’s my favorite! Cheers, Obama! 😀 Drink up!

The barrel-like tables of Phat Barrels.

The popcorn machine  piqued my interest!

And we only know good things can pop out of that machine!

 A night’s treat of Guinness-flavoured popcorn.

Most people flock to Phat Barrels for three main things – to dine, tap and chill!

And that’s exactly what we did all night.

On to the first – DINING!

Here are some of the European pub grub we had for dinner, courtesy of Phat Barrels.

 Lamb Shank

The portion was of a sizable wonder! This was tender, delicious and definitely marinaded very well too.

 Spaghetti Aglio Olio

I didn’t taste it but my buddies who did had no complaints!

 The Bavarian Platter

Strictly for sharing unless you have a the appetite of the whole African continent

It probably doesn’t look huge from the photo but trust me, it is! Several of us shared this with delight.

It consisted of chicken fillets, beef back ribs, beef short ribs,

two different kinds of sausages, and a serving of fries.

Beef Sirloin Steak

This was done medium. Loved how juicy this was! The sauce complimented the meat superbly.

Second – TAPPING!

We had free-flow of Guinness towers and other beers by the Guinness-Anchor group.

What I’m sipping on is a tall glass of Tiger Radler!

Check out what Guinness did later in the year at their AMPLIFY Live Tour here if you’re into soulful music and good beer!

On to the third – CHILLING.

Cue the party pictures for the night with some of my fave girls and boys. Enjoy!

We dined, tapped and chilled the night away over live entertainment by local band 9 Lives.

I had fun singing along to their crooning of popular R&B, soothing Blues and contemporary Pop Rock numbers!

Band set up by the raised platform of Phat Barrels.

Lead singer Joy’s melodic voice and the band’s instrumental skills

was the perfect musical accompaniment of our evening.

Thank you Phat Barrels, for having me on a fantastic night of celebration and weekday evening escape!

Now do you know why you totally should’ve been here?Big Smile

Like violinists and quartets? Check out String Musicians.

First Christmas party of the year – The Remedy KL x WeChat!

December 23, 2013 by thejessicat

The Christmas joy was in the air as early as last week!

Well actually, the moment it turned December, malls, restaurants & retail outlets were already decked in the season’s festive cheer and Christmas songs could be heard in every building.

Huge Christmas tree at the event!

But it was not until I received an invitation to attend a mini Christmas party last Wednesday, that celebrations of Yuletide finally decided to sink in. Tongue Out

So I made my way to The Scott Garden in Old Klang Road that night.

With my girls at The Remedy Plus.

Giant flashy Christmas tree greeting us at the entrance.

It was my first time at The Scott Garden, despite hearing so much about it. I was rather impressed with the entire zone!

It was beautifully lit in the night and the water feature at the zen-garden added a wonderful touch of nature to the otherwise concrete enclave of bars, retail spaces and restaurants. Surprised

This Christmas party was thrown to celebrate the latest collaboration between WeChat and The Remedy KL!

The Remedy KL is now on WeChat and this means that all WeChat users will be in for great deals and promotions, the latest deal being a BUY 1 FREE 1 Guinness and Killkenny beer offer during this Christmas and New Year period.

Exclusive only to WeChat users, follow the instructions and redeem your deal!

It was only Day One of the promo period but the crowd could be seen fiddling with their phones and scanning the QR code on the WeChat promoters, who were walking from table to table at The Remedy KL.

It was full-house, despite being a weekday! Cool

Geez, we sure love our beers, don’t we? 😛

Catching up with the girlfriends

There was also a buffet line-up of thin-crust pizzas, sauteed vegetables, grilled chicken, sweet corn-on-the-cob, mushroom spaghetti and a fruit platter. We enjoyed several helpings of it over countless pints of Guiness and Killkenny draft beers. Smile

I got myself a pair of cute Santa headband from the event! Thanks WeChat!

As well as this flashy Santa wristband. It glows!

So get scanning, fellow WeChat users… and Enjoy your pints! *hic* Still Dreaming

Get your geek on! Dear web developers, this is how to ensure you pass your Oracle Certification Exam.

December 19, 2013 by thejessicat

Fun fact: Being both in a direct circle of friends and working closely with a particular group of people will indirectly lead to an increased interest in what they do.

This is something no one can debunk… as psychologically, we humans do function in that strange way.

Similarly, having many close tech-oriented friends plus working in a digital advertising agency full of web developers and web programmers somehow made me somewhat more interested in programming languages than I already am.

What jargon do you speak of? Does this programming script confuse you?

Hello World, welcome to the codes of JAVA.

This interest is earnest as I have personally taken multimedia, web development and programming courses in college. Though rather basic, I learnt quite a fair deal and possess enough knowledge to hold a tech conversation.Kiss

I have even tweaked and coded my old blog layout back in 2009 when I was less rusty than I am now!

JAVA (not the coffee, mind you) is one of the many, many

computer programming languages that I’ve learnt previously.

Recently, I’ve heard many of my programmer friends speaking about wanting to get an Oracle Certification and I got evidently curious.

Most of them even told me they aim to pass that exam to get to ‘next-level’ programmer status LOL.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ORACLE CERTIFICATION?

The Oracle Certification Program are IT Professional certifications for Oracle and Sun Microsystems products.
There are three levels of Oracle Certification in several disciplines: Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), and Oracle Certified Master (OCM).

These certification are particularly designated for administrators and developers.

Oracle’s Certified Professional SE Programmer (OCPJP) exam is the fundamental exam required to demonstrate solid understanding of Java and is a prerequisite to a number of the other Java certificates.

It is designed as a fairly detailed test of knowledge of the core features and constructs of the Java programming language. Alien

It tests a wide range of Java’s APIs and core features, starting from basics such as looping constructs and variables, to more complex topics such as Threads, Collections and Generics.

To put it in layman’s terms, the exam is basically a test of how well a

programmer has understood the language constructs and mechanisms.

Anyone who has ever taken a professional certification exam knows it can be a very stressful process.

There is a lot riding on successful completion of an Oracle certification exam. You will need to invest time, money and energy in the exam preparation process and you’ll also need to find the right resources for helping you reach your goals.

What are your goals? Surprised

Just like all other exams, an Oracle certification exam requires you to set up and maintain a consistent study schedule.Smile

Most exams take at least a couple of months to learn all of the necessary materials and the more advanced and expert level exams can take six months or more to truly master the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary for successfully passing the exam.

You’ll need to set a reasonable and realistic study schedule for learning the materials and make sure you stick with the schedule regardless of what other commitments you may have in your life.

Trying to master the materials too quickly will only lead to subpar learning.

Unless well… you’re born with it.

You may be able to skim the surface of the materials in just a few weeks, but most people need significantly more time to really master the details for an Oracle certification exam.

For this reason, you should allot ample time for learning and not try to rush the process.Cool

Being a serious person in academics myself, I would seize the best I can should I decide to take an Oracle cert one day.

You will require some prep resources and tutorial services when studying for an Oracle certification exam. But lucky us, there are many resources available online for self study and that offer practice exams for Oracle as well! So I guess it shouldn’t be too hard anymore, eh? Laughing

One of the ones I would strongly recommend is ExamTrace.com (Click here) as it is among the most affordable and best resources to check out.

With ExamTrace, passing your Oracle Certification will be a breeze now. Good luck and all the best!

Treat me a cup of JAVA coffee when you score good grades for the test, aight? Tongue Out
