The Sunday Times XXIX: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

June 30, 2013 by thejessicat

I'm back from Penang! Yes, again. LOL

And no, I don't travel back and forth every week. It just so happens that I did again this weekend.

My Superman says hello.

Also, I'm so thankful that the haze epidemic has finally subsided!

It was beginning to take a toll on everyone (especially Singaporeans) and I even experienced a little shortage of breathing.

Woke up one Sunday morning to this.

Konzy bought a mask for us just in case. Made a Keek video about the haze too!

Jun 24, 2013 | The #haze in KL #Malaysia is getting from bad to worse! I'm smelling #smoke, dust and ashes even indoors! by imthejessicat on Keek.com

I don't know what got into us, but we decided to go to Port Klang to celebrate my cousin's birthday.

For those not in the know, Port Klang was officially the suburb with the worst haze condition, according to the Air Pollutant Index (API). Couzzie Colin returned from New Zealand and was adamant on having Klang seafood no mater what LOL. surprise

Oh well. *shrugs*

No matter, at least I got to reunite with couzzie Colin whom I've not seen since I was a kid of nine.

Briefly meeting each other when we were both drop dead drunk two years ago does not count as a reunion!

And ultimately, we got to eat delicious, fresh seafood too.

Klang is touted as THE MUST-GO PLACE for seafood here. It was my first time that night!

Don't even get me started on what we ordered at Restoran Ah Lee!

Ok, fine, I'll try.

I think, to my best memory, we had two different types of giant crabs (marmite and spicy), hot Grouper fish soup, prawns, two different types of clams (garlic and marmite), yam and dried chili frogs (also known as "spring chicken' to the Chinese).

Came home to see my furkid perched on the kitchen counter.

That ass, son. That ass.

Saturday saw me attending the finale of the UBER DJ competition by UBER.MEN at Zouk Club KL.

The final four contestants!

I was so blown away by DJ Marshall (left).  He had the talent, the attitude and versatility to boot!

After the event was over (DJ Marshall and DJ Wicked proceeded to the grand finals!), I realized that I was so glad to be invited that night. smiley

Half expecting to watch a bunch of newbies work the turntables with mediocre skills, I was proven so, so wrong. Attending tonight's event made me see that there was really so much more to DJing than just standing there "posing with headphones", "pressing some buttons" and "looking cool".

So many technicalities, sequencing, effects, mixing, vibe and actual skills were required to emerge as tonight's winner. I learnt about techniques like beat balancing and scratching.

The term "anybody can be a DJ" coined by people who don't know the field of expertise any better must be exiled! LOL

Allow me to digress.

Likewise, the similar verbal diarrhoea by the uninformed saying "anybody can be a photographer", "anybody can be a blogger" and "anybody can be a model". Why don't you try think of it in a strictly professional sense, put it into practice and see how you fare?blush

Anybody can be a janitor? No, I absolutely cannot. Can you?

With your logic, it's just like saying aybody can be an astronaut. What? All they have to do is to put on a funny suit with a fishbowl on their heads and walk on foreign planets, float around the milkyway and probably say hello to aliens. What? Sounds easy, doesn't it?

Call me a spaceman then.

So, no. Not simply "anybody" can be "anything". There's always more to a profession that is unbeknownst to people outside of a given industry and there are always people who are bad at the job and others who are thriving in the career ladder; superceding others.

My thoughts and seriousness aside, here are some photos of my friends and I at the event! laugh

Us again. Girls' night out!

Bought new sunglasses. Loved them to bits! heartheart

'

Isn't it pretty? But guess what? I lost them over the weekend in Penang. BUMMER.

Potong stim, tau? Dahlah beli spek baru mahal sangat, manatau, belum sempat nak gunakan puas2 hilang pulak.

Time for another party! Samsung Malaysia and Manoah threw a splendid dinner party at The Pool KL.

I was glad to be invited, and did not hesitate to join in the fun! smiley

Arrived!

Greeted to such a lovely table setting!

There was this really cool instant photobooth by InstaMedia

Check out all the awesome photos it printed out for me! heart

I loved them so much.

A closer look laugh

Everyone was busy mingling around and catching up over the delicious buffet spread!

It was lovely to meet up with most of my blogger and social media buddies again.

Gym face Wednesday.

With Ash at the gym on Thursday! Nail that T-Bar row.

Extra hours of TRX suspension training this week!

Ready for some post-workout meals? laugh

Tuna chunks and scrambled egg with onions, garden peas, thyme and coarse black pepper on wholemeal toast.

Garden pasta: Organice centellini, flax, brocolli, scrambled eggs, beans and cauliflower

My adapted version of Ronnie Coleman's breakfast

Scrambled eggs (whites to yolk ratio 3:1) with chia seeds, flax,

organic tofu and tuna fish with a dash of balsamic vinegar!

Lunch to-go! Brought tuna mashed with kidney beans, cabbage, grapefruit and wholemeal bread.

Simple quick fix one afternoon – Garden peas, scrambled eggs, flax, quinoa, onions, black pepper and tuna

This doesn't qualify but I thought it looked funny cheeky

Attended Club Asahi Miami in Soju Room, Penang Times Square too.

Full blog coverage – here!

I took some time to soak up the sun by the pool in my hotel at Northam All-Suites Penang.

And had delicious, Penang food!

I've always been so proud of my little island and its gastronomic pleasures!

We're in the second half of the year now, are you halfway achieving your new year resolutions that you made with such raging spirit at the beginning of the year? If not, this is your wake up call! cheeky

Oh and, it's my birthday tomorrow wheee!

Much love,

kissJessicat

Who on earth is Amber Brown? Samsung unveils the mystery – a limited edition GALAXY Note II!

June 5, 2013 by thejessicat

When asked of my favorite colour, I never fail to answer that my most preferred colour, is red.

Nevertheless, my attraction to brown comes as no surprise, as brown is made up mostly of red pigments!

Did you know that brown is actually a composite colour made up of red, yellow and black?

Well now you do. Here are some of my favorite things, and they are coincidentally all in BROWN!

One of my favorite pairs of heels

Nutella Martinis

Pancakes and chocolate ice-cream heart

The wooden chalets I stayed whilst in Malacca

Coffee and cookies

Last year's giant chocolate birthday cake

One of my favorite hangout spots, Starbucks' interior

More chocolate cakes cheeky

The Samsung GALAXY Note 2

Wait – WHAT? The Samsung GALAXY Note 2 now comes in brown?

Precisely. Adding yet another out-of-the-ordinary colour choice for gadgets to their current portfolio of pink and wine red (apart from the usual white and black ones), the latest colour introduced to the market is……… AMBER BROWN!

Such a beauty, isn't it?

Father's Day is coming so this might be just the right thing to give daddykins

I did a colour personality test recently and found out that brown is honest, genuine and sincere.

It relates to the hardworking, the industrious and reliable, with both feet planted firmly on the ground.

This video shows how brown depicts friendship, timeless values and loyalty

Brown is also a colour symbolizing security, simplicity, down-to-earth and practicality.

A close-up of the Amber Brown Samsung Galaxy Note II

A long time ago, I used to think that brown was an "old person" colour. blush

But as I grew up, I knew how gravely wrong I was. Now, quite a number of my belongings are brown.

If I look around the room now, I realize that my shoes are brown, my contact lenses are brown, my organizer is brown, my eyeshadow is brown, my satchel is brown… and the list goes on.

If I owned a Samsung GALAXY Note II, it will be brown too!laugh

Get the all-new limited edition Samsung GALAXY Note II Amber Brown is in stores now.

The Sunday Times XXVI: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

June 2, 2013 by thejessicat

Oh hey! It's the month of June already.

If you ask me, this year flew by really swiftly. Before I knew it, we're already almost halfway into the year 2013.

Where did all the time go?

Hmmm… maybe getting starting my new job made me feel like time had fleeted by so fast.

Cold days at work. When the advertising industry debilitates me whole by the end of the day, all I can do is to curl up with my fave mug of hot chocolate

As keeping busy takes up most of my time, my days aren't as dreary and long as it would probably feel if I were to be jobless or bored at home with absolutely nothing to do. To be honest, I do miss being bored sometimes.

I could only wish for more hours in my day. blush

My life is so fast-paced, especially this year, that I don't even have the time to feel bored anymore!

Ahhh, wishful thinking at best.

Anyway, this week was relatively mundane with a sprinkle of colour towards the weekend. Okay, recap! wink

Daily trainings and awesome post-workout meals.

It was upper body: chest, shoulders, back and arm day

Made organic fusilli pasta bake with honey glazed eggplant, carrots & tomato,

tossed with grapeseed oil, basil and cottage cheese.

Rolled wholegrain oats with soy milk, banana slices and golden kiwi

Organic brown rice with chicken chunks, button mushrooms & flax seeds,

steamed in spring onion, garlic-ginger-onion-herb paste made from scratch!

Tonight's outfit of the day.

Was invited to Longchamp Paris' Exclusive Preview of their Fall/Winter collection.

Full blog feature soon!

May 29, 2013 | Amazing new release by #Longchamp #Paris! Here are my favorites from their 2013 Fall/Winter collection! ❤ by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Randomly, just randomly, I'm vaguely aware of how my sense of dressing has mellowed so much. Ugh.

Although sexy tops, tight skirts, mini dresses and belly bearing tops still appeal to me, I noticed a paradigm shift in my taste in clothing as of late – probably since the beginning of the year. I have to admit, this "change" scares me a little.

I think this means I'm succumbing to the ravages of time and age. OH NO.

Nowadays, classy high-cut tops, demure outfits, long dresses, classic, elegant pieces and the corporate OL (office lady) look strikes my fancy. Umm. really Jess, since when?

What happened to that wild, partygirl look you often portray? surprise

Date night out in the city. We chose El Cerdo KL Spanish Restaurant, Changkat Bukit Bintang

We had tapas. Gambas Al AjilloCalamares (above) and A La Plancha (below)

Loved its freshness and mild but delightful flavours!

★★★★★

May 30, 2013 | #Night outs! #Dinner in the #city. Drinks by the #bar ❤ by imthejessicat on Keek.com

We also met up with some friends for a bit of Wednesday night partying

One person is missing from the picture! I guess I'll have to photoshop bestiePam's head in LOL

Bumped into an old friend, Anu, from Penang!

We were squash players back in high school

Excuse my vanity. I don't usually have the time to doll up laugh

Take two.

I have a new addition to my arsenal of gadgets now. Say hello to my new sexy white thing.

The SAMSUNG Galaxy Camera heart

Fancy some cat pictures for the start of the week?

What you are about to see is my furkid, Chivas, in compromising positions cheeky

The weekends finally loomed closer; about time it did!

Friday night saw me packing my bags and heading up to Ipoh to spend some time with the family for the weekend.

We had a sumptous family feast. Japanese dinner at

Zento Sushi @ Festival Walk which left us full to the brim and beyond satisfied.

★★★★★

Full blog feature/review coming soon!

Being away for the weekend didn't deter me from carrying out my routines.

Here's a makeshift circuit I did at the porch of my home.

Oh, this Ipoh trip marked my first time boarding the Electric Train Service (ETS) from KL Sentral Railway Station.

I came to a conclusion that I didn't want to drive two hours to Ipoh and another two hours back. I just can't be bothered, really.

The train ride was incredibly smooth and gave me a pleasant experience!

It was punctual – arriving on the dot! yes

The carriages/coaches were clean, spacious, comfortable and had on-board entertainment (hurray for Mr. Bean!) to boot.

Instead of spending a taxing two hours squinting into the distance when I drive at night and speeding (being me, admittedly) down the highway at 140km/h, all I had to do was to get to the railway station, board the train, pop up my laptop and do my work or leisure for the entire two hours.

Arriving with zero stress.

Sounds like a much better option, no doubt! yes

Thumbs up to Malaysian public transportation!

Architecture-wise, I was pretty impressed by how the railway station looked.

Fringing the railway tracks were high-rise horseshoe and orgee arches plastered in white. It had this British heritage look and feel to it.

You know the concept of crisp-looking whitewashed buildings of moorish designs, pairs of columned porches, symmetrical windows flanking the main, arched entrances?

Yeah the whole train station boasted that entire notion; and I loved it.

It felt as though I was stepping out of the Hogwarts Express train into London's King's Cross railway station.

Before I got too carried away in my reverie, I stopped myself from running into the wall in hopes of traversing into a secret, hidden platform to Hogwarts HAHAHA.

I'm deluded like that.

On our way to the Ipoh Railway Station

Jun 2, 2013 | Whilst on our way to the #Ipoh railway station to head back to #KL #city! by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Farewell, Ipoh Railway Station. I'll be back!

The sunset on the way back was breathtaking

This photo does no justice to the deep vermillion, purple and crimson hues that illuminated the evening sky

Theboyf and I decided to pig out and grab some Mexican cuisine for dinner upon arriving KL.

Actually, it was his idea. We were starving by the time we arrived the city.

Chilis Grill & Bar Restaurant, Bangsar Shopping Centre

★★★★★

The Chicken Club Tacos were superb!

Wrapped inside the tacos were grilled mesquite chicken breast, ancho-chile ranch dressing, diced tomatoes, mixed cheeses and lettuce served with chopped beef bacon and black beans.yes

Eating it left me wanting more. It came so juicy, the chicken was tender and it was a perfect burst of Tex-Mex flavour with every bite.

We also tried their new starter, the Spinach Queso.

Those tostada chips were warm and crisp, to be dipped into a spinach-cheese dip and house-made salsa. Just heavenly! yes

So that's a wrap! Here's to hoping your weekend was just as eventful as mine.

Have a good seven days ahead heart

I'm going to leave you with a song that's been stuck in my head for as long as ever. Sharing is caring wink

Much love,

kissJessicat

Super street carnival ushering the official arrival of the SAMSUNG Galaxy S4 in Malaysia!

April 29, 2013 by thejessicat

It's finally here! After months and months of speculation and anticipation, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has officially hit our Malaysian tech market.

So yes… in the palm of my hand right now, lies the latest smartphone of them all.

The SAMSUNG Galaxy S4 : Life companion

kini di pasaran!

It was a sunny Saturday last weekend. cool I made sure theboyfie and I dressed up in blue in spirit of a huge function set to take the entire Klang Valley by storm.

Jessicat wears:

Grafitti skull tank in blue by Radioactive |  Denim skirt in white by Padini | Accessories by Nichii |

Supernova Check Hearts (limited edition) in Berry Red by Burberry | Classic Suede in blue by PUMA

All decked in shades of blue. So.. where were we going? And why blue?

This explains everything.

Check out the amount of people celebrating the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4!

The convoy of vehicles has just arrived one of the destinations – Sunway Pyramid!

Guess what came out of these Galaxy S4 vehicles?

It was a mass parade of performers! devildevil

Cheerleaders going hard with their stunts and tight routines!

Big bands performing thumping rhythms!

Their outfits somehow reminded me of American alternative rock band, My Chemical Romance cheeky

The celebration at Sunway Pyramid saw heaps of people jostling to be part of the action

What's not to be excited about? It was the launch of the most anticipated phone and not forgetting…

FREE ICE-CREEEEEAAM!! Awwwwyeah! yesdevil

The party didn't end right there.

The troop of Galaxy S4 vehicles convoyed to the city and made its final stop at Low Yat Plaza KL.

There was more in store for us in this gigantic Galaxy S4 truck

No celebration is EVER complete without brightly-coloured helium balloons and bursts of shimmery confetti!

It was a total Disney 'UP' moment right there devil

Music and more acts were performed back-to-back

Throngs of people gathered at the location to join the fun.

It was no surprise that merriment filled the air instantly.

WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE GALAXY S4'S CELEBRATION JOURNEY FROM MALL TO MALL!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMJ1SAnGNR8&feature=youtu.be

Pretty epic video! The launch day was really a success yes

Once the joyous occasion at the entrance of Low Yat Plaza was over, people hurriedly made their way inside to catch the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S4 at the Celcom Blue Cube outlet. I followed suit.

Big guns of Samsung holding up the Galaxy S4

I stepped in soon after to check out the famed Galaxy S4 for myself.

After briefly playing and exploring the Galaxy S4, the amount of mind-blowing and interactive features definitely surpasses most of its competitors in the market, while maintaining its simplicity.

Among all, here are the top 3 things I fancy most about the Samsung Galaxy S4.heart

It was undeniably thin and feather-light weight for a smartphone – 130 grams only!

I loved its bright, clear, super-sharp and optimized full HD super AMOLED display. The colours were vibrant but not glaring to the eye too; which works best for me, as I always use my phone under the covers late at night before I sleep.

Built at 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, the size was just the perfect fit for my palm

Just a pic of the basic homescreen

The Air View/Air Gesture feature

But no, I'm not casting a magic spell, but I was actually scrolling through images in the gallery! laugh

Without even touching the screen and smudging fingerprint stains on it, the Galaxy S4 performs my commands according to the motion of my hand.

It enlarges photos, previews emails, speed dials and much more with the slightest hover of your hand or finger.

Pasti seronok. Memang ghairah sungguh! Aku tak henti-henti main dengan fon baru nih haritu.

Kalo main kat tengah-tengah malam hitam pita tentu nampak macam bomoh kan? Hahahaha.

The Smart Pause/Smart Scroll feature

Just when you thought telekinesis will never be possible with technology, you're wrong. surprise

The Galaxy S4 knows what you're doing and adapts accordingly to what you want. by automatically scrolling down when you're reading. When you're watching something, say, a movie or a video clip, it automatically pauses when you look away (or yawn!) or when somebody interrupts you.

This is so that you won't miss anything! It also automatically resumes when you want to watch it again by looking at the screen.

Might consider switching sides soon. This beauty is truly one wicked gadget!

Macam-macam kelebihanye! Skarang, sape nak beli? Hehe.yes laugh

Samsung Galaxy S4 will be launched VERY SOON! Are you ready 4 the next Galaxy?

April 22, 2013 by thejessicat

I don't recall how excited everyone can get over a smartphone.

The very moment I posted about being at the Samsung Galaxy S4's teaser event at The Curve, my phone was ringing off the hook!

Geez, guys! I know you're excited, but hold your horses, will you? Haha! devil

I've got neverending questions like, "When will it be launched?", "Is this phone good?", "How much will it be?", "Will there be a plan/telco package for it?", "Where will it be launched?", "Exact location and map of the launch please?", "Do you recommend this phone?", "What are the new features of this phone?" and the list goes on. smiley

But don't worry, you guys were not the only ones anticipating the Samsung Galaxy S4

The crowd began to build up just to watch the sporadic mini orchestral peformance last Friday

Bumped into buddySam! smiley

Four amazing vocalists (I could hear the alto, soprano and vocal sound effects being sung in harmony!) were belting out latest chart-topping hits; with a twist.

What twist? Well, I'll let you judge for yourself… whether or not you recognize this tune. cool

Galaxy S4 is coming! So get ready for your mind to be blown!

Yup, it's Lady Gaga – Edge of Glory devil

Not to forget the amazing string quartet as well.

The violinists and cello player  were so melodiously in sync!

Everyone was buzzing about to take photos of them and to

catch a glimpse of what was going on in the crowd

It was a hive of activity at the open space of The Curve that evening

Everyone was so amused when they heard the choir-orchestra band sing and play songs that they recognize but incorporating Galaxy S4 into the lyrics.

Rather clever, I reckon! Quite a jingle, they've achieved.yes  That song has been stuck in my head all weekend LOL

I also went home with a whole bunch of colourful balloons! devil

For those of you who were asking me anxiously about the phone, check out the official Samsung Galaxy S4 introduction video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2LHv1FPd1Ec

Such an amazing video highlighting the key features of the Samsung S4

Such an amazing smartphone, right? It's so revolutionary and magnificent. I'm almost sold! surprise

Looking at my clammy iPhone 4S, I can't help but to think… perhaps its time to switch sides? Heh. Heh. Heh.

I'm happy to be invited to attend to the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 – something I wouldn't miss for the world.

Can't wait to hold the Samsung S4 in my very own hands and explore/play around with its incredible new features for myself.

All details regarding the phone and happenings of the launch party will be posted up on my blog after the event! smiley

But if you want to get real-time updates during the event itself, I will be posting it LIVE on:

My Twitter page at – @imthejessicat

Photos from the launch will be posted LIVE on:

But for now, all I can say is…
