I have moved. Disturbed by strange occurrences in the house + my bedroom tour!

March 3, 2013 by thejessicat

Today’s post is going to be slightly out of the ordinary… and odd.

As the title says, I’m moving.. AGAIN.

This kinda explains my disappearance from my blog for several days.

I’ve been too busy with my new job, and all the moving to my new house.

Plus, my blog was actually down for 2-3 days – I had no idea! Major thanks to my friends and readers alike who informed me the very morning it was down.

Actually, by the time you’re reading this, I’ll probably still be shifting all my furniture to my new crib.

Looks like I’ll be tearing down my display cabinet & pack it all up for moving AGAIN :/

Firstly, no, I’m neither any sort of gypsy nor do I enjoy living a nomadic and itinerant lifestyle.

Secondly, I’m not one to be superstitious nor remotely close to believing that ghosts exist.

And thirdly, I believe that trust binds a friendship together.

But throughout the past year or so, my second and third stance has come into direct contradiction.

I have been experiencing rather strange occurrences that always seems to conclude as a case that will remain inexplicable, for as long as there is no form of evidence.

How strange, you ask? Let me list out what I remember, you judge.

1. My favourite pair of boots was gone from the house & was hidden at my condominium elevator

2. My milk (carton) sometimes gets mysteriously drank & emptied

3. Almost 20 missing items of mine (clothes, accessories and other paraphernalia)

were found in a housemate’s room. Three times.

4. My Milo supplies (unopened packets) went mysteriously missing from my food box

5. A housemate’s AUD500$ disappeared from his wardrobe

5. My expensive Aldo, Pedro, Charles & Keith and Nike shoes disappeared from my shoe shelves

& found some thrown into the communal garbage chute of my condominium.

Altogether, FIVE more were never to be found ;(

(A crime that I deem heinous, considering how much I adore my shoe collection,

I swear your unborn child will bring you misery as he/she grows up, for doing this to me!)

6. My four boxes of chocolate milk ended up in a housemate’s clothes box

7. Food goes missing (sometimes, but frequent enough)

8. A housemate’s toothbrush was found wet (in a dry bathroom),

with several fine hairs and sticky dirt in its bristles

…. the list goes on.

A ghost burglar, unseen pranker or any one of my housemates? Thoughts?

P/S : These things did not happen within the SAME house.

It happened in House A which I desperately moved out and away to escape from, hence moving into House B – *hopefully* ending the strange happenings once and for all.

BUT similar mishaps happened again, in House B.

I’m way in over my head here! :/

No doubt, I would be out of my bloody mind if I continue with the same living settings/condition.

This has gotta stop. So here I am, all ready to pack my things once more, to relocate again.

I miss my permanent residence back home in Penang.

Really, I’m quite sick of moving in and out here so often after every few months.

Is it so hard to just want a comfy, secure place to call home? :/

Hopefully, this will be the last time I’m moving for a long time.

Because… guess what? :D

When we were 19, bestieJoyce and I told ourselves that IF we were to be in the same place at the same time in the future, we would live together.

(We eventually went separate ways to the UK and Australia respectively to pursue our education)

BUT five years down the road, who would’ve thought

that our little pinky promise would come true? :D

We’ll be staying in the premium township of Mont Kiara, upper west side of the KL city centre!

Our dream home is just perfect! A cosy crib for the four of us.

Looks like I’m gonna miss my old place :/

Then again, I’m so used to moving that I’ve lost any strain of emotional attachment to properties.

Oh which reminds me, some of you have been requesting to see my room since last year so, here it is!

I admit I can be quite excessive in decoration, as you shall see :P

Welcome, welcome!

My room during the day

My room during the night

I’m a sentimental person by nature, so all the cards that were given to me by wonderful people

that I have been blessed to have in my life, are hung above my bed-head.

Some of my decorative items & bottle collection

Room interior aside, what I truly miss about my previous home was the spectacular view.

If you’ve been following my tweets, you would know that I often wake up just to catch the sunrise.

(and go back to sleep after that, duh!) :P

I wake up to this every morning. How could such a splendid start of the day not be worth remembering? :)

And as dusk descends, I watch the sun setting in the horizon too.

Glorious, glorious golden rays of the sunset amidst the vermilion skies,

framed with the silhouettes of nearby buildings & hills in the distance

One of the rare solar eclipses I managed to shoot one evening in 2012

Well, let’s just say that despite having nostalgic memories of my previous rooms & the previous houses I used to live in, I simply cannot wait to move to Mont Kiara with bestieJoyce and the boys.

*UPDATE*

Something went awry, and bestieJoyce and I (plus the boys) will not be moving in together anymore. There were some issues between the house owner and us. Thus, we rejected the place and pulled out from the contract.

I am now living with 3 awesome housies in a condominium situated uphill with an amazing view of the whole suburb and the sunset! Simply love my new crib and the neighbourhood is amazing – peaceful, cooling and surrounded by lush, landscaped greenery.

/END UPDATE

Back to the issue, what really is the solution to end this indefinite move from one place to another?

I now declare that my next big investment/asset in the near future will be buying a property of my own… for good.

Wish me luck! I’m a girl with big dreams :D

The Sunday Times XVII: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

January 13, 2013 by thejessicat

I've just returned from my weekend trip in Malacca and feeling really exhausted now!

This entire week had been a really busy, eventful and a nerve-wrecking one (you'll see why)

Managed to snap a quick photo whilst out!

Had been caught up, back-to-back, with heaps of errands, appointments and meetings.

Apart from all the boring jizz, here are some other stuff that made my last seven days.

Sampled a new product : NBrew!

I watched, as Malaysia's first Liquid Nitrogen ice-cream was prepared on the spot for me

Unlike some stingy ice-cream parlours which charge a pricey amount for the tiny scoop of ice-cream, N-Brew's portion of ice-cream was a lot more generous! I took my time enjoying it.

As a health advocate, I'd definitely recommend this. It's low in sugar & fat, and does not contain any preservatives, food colouring and stabilizers!

Had the Aglio Olio Fish Fillet in The Apartment @ The Curve over a brief meeting on Monday

Despite the pretty decent food presentation & garnishing, it lacked in the taste department.

Took my little one out for a cat spa – showering, grooming, nail-clipping, fur-trimming, powdering & detangling.

He was pretty edgy that afternoon, for reasons unbeknownst to me

Frolicking at the back of my car. I hate his afternoon eyes. They're beady and menacing.

Much prefer how it looks like at night, I'm sure you've seen some other photos I've posted!

As babyChivas was busy for about an hour or so, Konzy and I had some time to kill.

We decided to check out a Chinese restaurant called Annie 1 @ Damansara Uptown.

Recommendations: the Chicken Curry Egg Noodles were delicious and the Pork Rib Stew was to die for!

It was so cheap too, under 10 bucks

Mid-week saw me darting back and forth to Mont Kiara and back home several times a day.

Can you guess why? You'll find out soon  It's quite obvious, but I'll announce it once it's confirmed!

Had dinner with bestieJoyce, Jo and Konzy.

I'm beginning to love the food in my *cough* new *cough* neighbourhood already

Highly recommended : Kin San Kichi Japanese Restaurant @ Desa Sri Hartamas

I absolutely love their Salmon Sashimi; it's touted the best in KL too!

For only 36 bucks, nine pieces of freshly sliced, EXTREMELY THICK AND BIG CHUNKS of raw salmon were served to us (as you can see in the picture above)

The Salmon Teppanyaki was unbelievably good too. Portions were huge and it was rich in flavour!

Another night of dinner with the fantastic four at Chow Yang Kitchen (潮阳美食店) @ Desa Sri Hartamas

I had a steamed Red Snapper (Tilapia fish) with ground ginger & lots and lots of Chicken Satay!

Again, a more-than-satisifying meal, I must say. Where was I all this while?

How could I not know how good the food was around Mont Kiara & Sri Hartamas?

This week's self-manicured nails! O.P.I's Bastille My Heart and Revlon's Silver Dollar

Some of my simple and quick whips in the kitchen!

This might come as a surprise but I was struck by the motivation bug and started job-hunting!

I know, how random. I'm still so busy being a full-time blogger as it is.

They must've liked my resume, as I received a call to come into the office.

After tedious written tests, evaluation tests and whatnot, I got selected amongst many and was short-listed to go for the next round of interviews!

In the end, I got the job offer!

Feeling very thankful to be given the opportunity to be a part of this esteemed, prestigious publication company with an impressive portfolio of top magazines under their belt!

More about this piece of good news if I feel like divulging more information next time.

For now, I'm one step closer to being the best that they've ever had.

At least, that's what I aim to be!

Off down south on a weekend trip to Malacca. Thanks, Papulex Asia!

This was my pine-log chalet. It's enormous!

I stayed in Philea Resort & Spa, a breathtaking 5 star eco-resort surrounded by nature

Just some quick snaps of the interior. So rustic and cosy, I don't even!

Apart from being occupied with the sharing sessions, meeting, discussions and activities organized by Papulex Asia,

I had some time to myself and did not hesitate to dive into the pool by the waterfall!

I should swim more often, just despise having chlorine in my hair. :/

More about my weekend trip in a full blog post soon!

Konzy picked me up after I arrived back in KL. We headed for dinner at DIB Coffees of Hawaii.

Little did I know that this outlet tucked away in the deeper part of Damansara Perdana was actually operated by the deaf! DIB here means, Deaf in Business.

The coffee was strong and aromatic! (I don't know about the food because that burger was Konzy's,

but he sure looked like he enjoyed it haha!)

I initially wondered why the waiter was so rude not to greet nor welcome us to the restaurant (I didn't know he was hearing impaired and mute at first, obviously!)

But I soon discovered after I noticed the sign language and gestures he used.

Eventually, we spoke It was so easy to "communicate" to the deaf and mute!

He understood my food orders so easily and we even had a brief conversation with each other.

Hmmm… I forsee myself working with the deaf some time in the near future.

I was impressed with their resourcefulness, determination and dedication to their work!

The most devastating highlight of this week was the death of a friend of mine from Penang

She was the innocent passenger & the driver is now in critical condition in the ICU.

The wrecked Porsche 911 Turbo which crashed into a tree at Kelawai Road (estimated at 4-6AM)

on the 13th January 2013 after they were both clubbing at Nueve, Precinct 10 @ Tanjung Bungah

We were from the same hometown, same gym, same Guides & Scouts camp and have the same passion for electronic music & raves.

My heart goes out to you and your family. Rest in Peace, Eli. I'll always remember you.

It is a hefty price to pay – with one's own life. We don't need another loss to remind ourselves that we should all NEVER drink and drive, do we?

Good times, I know. But what happens after?

Never attempt to drive while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance.

What really affected me was that she wasn't only my friend, she lived a similar lifestyle as I did.

It could have easily been me

I shall end this on a very sombre note. Cherish your loved ones and live a life that makes you happy, for you'll never know which day will be the last.

Have a good week peeps. Party responsibly!

Much love,

Jessicat

My favorite place to chill! Shisha Lounge at Solaris Mont Kiara, KL

March 11, 2011 by thejessicat

You know how annoying it is when you are in a mamak food store, suddenly a whole whoosh of pungent smoke comes directly towards your meal and into your face?

Well honestly, I find it utterly rude and unhygienic.

Blow it vertically, because smoke travels upwards! 🙂

Sorry, I don’t look forward to having other people’s gunk of smoke and respiratory particles into my dinner thank you very much. I know how it’s like on the receiving end; hence I certainly do try to avoid blowing in people’s direction.

Another reason why I despise shisha-ing at mamak stores, it’s super uncomfy sitting on stiff chairs or stools anyway.

One night, my prayers were answered.

I found an awesome chilling place to shisha!

What’s also fab is that it has really nice view (especially at night!) behind you as you chill.

Pretty damn windy up here too, as it is located on the higher floor

It’s so comfy!

Ya get to lean back or lie down enjoying your hookah all to yourself or with your friends.

No more sitting upright on steel chairs with your food in mamak stores

Teaching buddy Kelly how to shisha 🙂

She’s a real fast learner. Good on ya!

We drank some cocktails and fruit juices but our tummies were growling as the night went on

Time for food!

We were served Chicken and Beef Kebab

I’m pretty big on kebabs so I was really looking forward to how this one tastes like.

Middle Eastern food FTW!

My verdict? I loved it… and so did Kelly. The meat was really tender and flavorful 🙂

You can have it with rice or with bread, we picked the latter. It was warm and yummeh

On the menu, it is either Chicken Kebab or Beef Kebab 🙂

Don’t be afraid to ask for a 2-in-1 like we did if you can’t decide which satisfies your tastebuds better

Whilst eating, I spotted a familiar face. Bumped into a hometown friend, Arvind 🙂

He was with a group of friends and apparently there were a lot of pubs/bars in this building too.

No wonder it’s so happening!

He used to date my best friend and we happened to go to the same college 🙂

Having our all our drinks finished, we were then recommended to try some Iranian Tea.

Tea directly imported from Iran! Hmm… I’ve only had Chinese, Darjeeling, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Peppermint, Chamomile and Green tea before though.

No harm trying this Iranian tea for the 1st time 🙂

(I like this photo! I somehow look excruciatingly thin here LOL)

when the tray came, we were somewhat impressed

I like the set-up of the tiny tea-pot with the candle beneath it, miniature cup and saucers, sugar pot and the authentic design of the glassware in general. The dude looking all regal in the portrait?

Must be an Iranian big-shot or some perennial general, I guess 🙂

Sip sip! Tastes very different from ANY of the tea I’ve listed above.

It has some kind of Chai-cum-Bittersweet flavour to it

It wasn’t long before I got used to the after-taste 🙂

Eventually, we had more. Now, this was a really unique tea to me!

Lemme introduce you to the lady boss *ahem* of this Shisha Lounge

Her name is Newsha and she comes from Iran!

Awesome, share some Iranian goodness with us here in Malaysia

Her lovely joint has been operating for roughly 3 months now

It’s fairly new but beginning to pick up already

Just one visit and it became my instant favorite already 🙂

I cannot wait to come back to Malaysia and patronize this hang out spot with my mates again!

With some new friends at Shisha Lounge 🙂

Newsha’s mates are pretty cool too!

They also introduced me to something new to eat…

Ta-daaaa! In your face! 😀 😀

What is it? It’s one of Iran’s traditional food called the ‘Nimroo’.

Some form of an omelette wrapped with veggies in soft, freshly baked warm bread.

Here’s a close up of Nimroo

(and a close up of his face too haha!)

Kelly and I continued shisha-ing the night away and played with the Iranian chess/checker board game for a bit.

We eventually gave up because we had no clue how to play it LOL

When smoke gets in your eyes~

I had a fantastic night and a “getaway” to Iran this evening. They really give you a true taste of Iran 🙂

With the impeccable service you get, it’s hard not to enjoy yourselves there!

They open till late too, around 3AM so it’s perfect for after-hours session.

So round up your shisha-mates for a great night out and thank me later!

Envy Club | Solaris Mont Kiara

August 10, 2009 by thejessicat

What happens when you’re in the mood for some buckets of ice-cold beer with your buddies or a night out partying hard to infectious Gaga + Timberland remixes and booming bass beats? You hit the clubs.

But what if your lazybones refuse to take you all the way to KL City where the mainstream clubs are located? You go to Envy in Solaris Mont Kiara.

Image00004
Dance performances during the opening

As everyone knows, Solaris is home to some pretty awesome F&B eateries and its suburban nightlife. In that square itself, there are many places to choose from various fine dining restaurants, clubs & bars and abundant cafes.

Image00024
GRRRRRRRRRR

When gurls go wild with good food and even better music.

Image00008

A group of bloggers were invited by the management of Envy Club to attend a media&bloggers tour of the premise itself on a Wednesday night. Buffet dinner was served to us and there was a free-flow of beer too!

6500_239538700303_761055303_7960989_5296715_n
At the entrance

When I got inside, I was actually impressed with the large and spacious layout of the double-storey club plus its state-of-the-art interior design. Can anyone see the pole in the middle? LOL that’s for the aspriring pole dancers out there to do their thang!

Image00003

Here’s a shot I managed to get which shows you both the floors of Envy. Captured this in a very awkward position, of having myself doubled over the stage floor right below the DJ Console.

Image00023

Photos captured with the camera pointed
180degrees apart from the same position

Image00002

Speaking of DJs, we had a very talented combo of a DJ and a beatboxer too on the night of the launch. Believe or not, the latter is only 18 years old and is ranked #9 in the recent beatboxing competition held in Berlin!

Image00001

Music was relatively good, as most AT40 R&B clubhits were playing as well as some popular trance & house beats. A blend that never fails to work at any given party!

Image00007
The DJs used Scratch Live on his laptop too

When we had enough of downstairs, we then went upstairs to check out what it has in store for us all.

5734_142266171264_692086264_3649084_3205180_n_thumb[2]
Just before we adjourned upstairs

Wow! I especially liked how it looked all more comfy upstairs. There were plenty of sofas and it was likened to a lounge – a very large area occupying the entire row.

Image00018
I like!

Image00014
Myself, SarChan, Shawn’s friend & Shawn

What I also found rather ingenious, albeit a very sneaky idea was to build a glass bridge connecting the two sections of the 2nd floor.
Watch out ladies! Don’t wear your fave dresses or miniskirts and accidentally walk right through it.

Image00005
… for I forsee a heightened level of noise under the
transparent bridge each time you walk by.

Anyhow, I was lucky enough to be coincidentally wearing my pair of baggy pants on that night. So I stood on the glass bridge comfortably with the rest of the dudes. Heh.

Image00028
Shot this from upstairs. I think I’m addicted to lightplay now
Whoops!

And the best part of the 2nd floor just has to be their Nintendo Wii. There are 2 flat screen monitors for you to play Wii Sports and the rest of the games installed inside.

Image00019

My fave game was Tennis on Wii Sports. Melody, Kristine and I were challenging each other. LOL That’s me on the left and Kris on the right… jengjengjeng guess who won?

Image00012
Pwn-ed joo, Kristine!

The special part of Envy is that it had a seperate section for VVIPs. And I mean, a really seperate section where cigars and wine bottles rule.

Image00025
Casa Envidia

It was so exclusive that it even had a private staircase leading right to the center of this room. However, there is a side door (if you’re smart enough to find it) which will give you access directly from the club into the room.

Image00026

These VVIPs even have their very own wine room all to themselves. Pretty cool for the creme of people who appreciate the finer things in life. Champagne, cigars, wine and tapas. Check out this other Shisha place nearby.

Image00027

I can’t help to think that this place reminds me of the 1st class seats on an aeroplane.

Image00001

It was brightly lit and extremely spacious
with leather upholstery for their armchairs.

Image00006
I think I spotted a GH Mum premium wine bottle on display

In a very short while, I exited this seperate I-feel-so-royal-and-important place to head back to the mainroom of the club.

Image00010

We helped ourselves to more free-flow of drinks. There was much merry-making in the club! By the time it struck midnight, more and more people started to roll in.

Image00011

We bloggers had fun messing around with our cams to produce crazy lightplays from the laser lighting of Envy and of course camwhoring in the vicinity.

Image00013

Image00022
Kudos to
Leonard, Event Manager & Zai, Communications Manager
and the rest of the Envy team for making this evening a blast

If you think you’ve had enough of the club atmosphere and want to opt for something more relaxing and breeezy, Envy’s got just the right thing for you too.

Image00002

It’s their outdoor lounge just beside the club, again with my ideal picture of comfy sofas and fluffy cushions there at your disposal. The ventilation here is just perfect, with huge-ass oscillating fans and of course the natural breeze.

pix00001
Just perfect to sit down with your buddies
or loved ones and down some Corona

Sometimes I stiffle the urge to fall directly asleep on those sofas. Really now, things can get so comfortable and cosy that I could just catch my 40 winks on the spot.

Oh and randomly,

Image00009
Yes I steal Fedoras when I’m being fed with some rad drinks.
In the mood for some Envy yet?
It’s the total package in the heart of Solaris
