The Sunday Times V : Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

September 23, 2012 by thejessicat

Hellooooo dear readers! How's your week been so far?

7 days of sweat and toil at your workplace? Or 7 days of hard-pressed studying & assignments?

Whatever it is, hope you guys tackled it with a big wide smile!

This week has been pretty intense for me; I've had back-to-back trainings everyday to prepare me physically and mentally for my very first marathon!

Did my routine of strength, endurance and high intensity interval running at Celebrity Fitness

The ground WILL tremor beneath your strength, people! So push your boundaries and work that body!

A good friend of mine, Ken, shared this quote with me and I took an instant liking to it!

Decided to make it my motto of the week

On lazy days or rainy days (LOL excuses) I'd just go to the gym at my condominium pool!

Since I'm back in Penang for the weekend, I dragged mom & kakak to Bukit Dumbar to accompany me

And obviously to get them up and going too! No life is sedentary with me around :D:D

Ran 7KM in 45 minutes. I wonder how long tomorrow's session will take?

Got the latest Adipure 360 Born for the Gym sports sneakers!

Thanks Adidas Malaysia for these lovely pair of versatile gym shoes

Decked in Adidas from top to toe on the day of their official launch party!

(Full blogpost coming soon!)

Found this on Tumblr and couldn't agree more :)

Outfit of the day. Feeling a tad sporty one afternoon!

Anyway, apart from my vigorous trainings and running practices, I've been up to heaps of other stuff.

I gotta eat, too! I can now afford to eat like a starving pig – believe me, I have a voracious appetite! – because I constantly burn almost 500 calories everytime I work out. So, no worries!

One I'd always recommend, time and time again –

The Dragon Roll from Sushi Zanmai is my absolute fave. Made with tempura prawns, avocado & roe!

Made a healthy dinner of Chicken & Vegetable Stew!

All the protein & fibre I need to get me going

My current favorite morning bites which always gets me on the move!

A hot cuppa coffee + cornflakes with all natural yoghurt & a dollop of honey

Caught up with my Greek friend Jason as he is transiting/visiting KL before he goes back to Australia!

Why not bring the two Greek boys out for dinner + shisha at Herris @ Damansara Perdana

Had a great time catching up with Jason. Talked about everything and anything under the sun!

When we were eating, a filming crew shot footages of us eating, for a local program called 'Jalan-jalan Cari Makan'. So you might see me on TV when its aired LOL!

Sent my car for a thorough carwash, polish & vacuum (finally!) at the neighbourhood petrol station

Now, even a single piece of litter in my car gets me in a frenzy. OCD time haha

Amazing how these petrol station/carwash boys only charge 4 bucks per car wash and an additional 2 bucks for interior vacuuming. That's real cheap, seriously. I know it's not rocket science to wash a car, but surely it isn't only worth 4 bucks?

They do a pretty good job too though!

Not going to tell you which petrol station, because the queue is long enough hahahahaha!

Don't wanna recommend and have to wait even longer ;(;(

(But if you really, really wanna know you can always ask me la)

I can't wait to watch Hotel Transylvania!

Had always been a fan of freaky cartoons & Tim Burton-ish kinda movies

Found this and got so enamoured by the progress humankind has made over the years!

The shopaholic in me strikes again! Love this rugged pair of brass-buckled leather heels from Pedro.

I know I can always trust Pedro for their exquisite quality of shoes

As crazy as I am over high-heels (I have 35 pairs altogether, no, I cannot believe myself either LOL!), my love for pumped-up kicks & sneakers alike knows no bounds.

I turn to the casual, street-style when I feel like kicking back on lazy afternoons!

My new pair of Playboy high-top sneakers!

Major, major love for them. It's studded and the Playboy Bunny has diamante blings for its eyes

And no, just so you know, I'm not a crazy shoe lady

I'm just a caterpillar with too many feet, hence needing many, many shoes

Updated my iPhone software the all-new iOS6! Go update yours too!

It's heaps smoother & I can't stop listening to all the new podcasts I've downloaded

Oooh I'm back in Penang for the weekend!

It's daddy's birthday so yes, here I am back at home to celebrate with the family.

Happy 52nd Birthday, daddy-o!

Mom ordered giant freshly baked crabs during the birthday dinner!

I recommend Teluk Kumbar Seafood place for amazingly fresh & quality seafood

Randomly, I just noticed how "unskilled" I am in eating crabs – that's the only reason why I don't eat crabs often! I will often end up wasting a good crab all because I'm dreadful at peeling the crab or knowing just where all the hidden meat are. :/

Watching mom's sleight of hand while cracking, breaking and twisting out the crab meat from the crab made my jaw drop. I guess she's a more pro seafood person than I am hahaha!

Thanks boyfieKon for sending me a piccie of babyChivas whilst I'm away!

Was beginning to miss my mischievous little ball of fluff

That's all for this week! Will be back in KL on Tuesday for a meeting and to continue the rest of my week.

Have a wonderful seven days ahead. Don't forget to ALWAYS stay fit & eat healthy too!

That being said, remember to drink 7 litres of water everyday

Listen to your body, it is powerful

Much love,

Jessicat

A new Greek tattoo on my ribcage! A story of my tattoo journey and I throughout the years

January 19, 2012 by thejessicat

Okay this is it.

Some of you have been requesting to see my tattoos (since 2 years ago – so sorry!) but I somehow didn't quite feel like sharing it in a blogpost.

But finally, I relented. Here's an entire post about my tattoos. Random decision, but here goes!

For those of you in the know, my most recent body art is a Greek tattoo on my ribcage; got it done last month in Singapore.

Greek scriptures and an original quote written by me

Just before I made my final decision to have it imprinted on my body forever

Just like all my previous tattoos, my design was printed out and carbon-copied onto my ribcage for positioning and preference purposes.

So far so good!

I took an immediate liking to it and gave my inkmaster the green light

On the tattoo bench. Yup, I'm all set and ready to begin!

What did I get myself into?

Bring on 5 hours of intense and gruelling pain.

With each and every time I endure hours & hours of yet another hellish tattoo session,

I ask myself one question :

But oddly enough, I never fail to keep coming back every year and mark myself with another body art

Simply 'cos I adore tattoos, its intricacy on human flesh & how it is a new experience for me

They say pain is addictive. What say you?

I daresay that my ribcage tattoo was the worst, most excruciating experience I've ever had amongst all my other tattoos.

Funny thing was, I've always known the ribcage tattoo to be the most painful spot to ink on.

So intense that my inkmaster gave me some Tequila shots to down

Felt better after 2-3 shots. It helped to numb my senses

Alright. Breaktime over, continue the buzzing of the needle!

I've always wanted a tattoo in a foreign language, but never knew what language.

Chinese? Nah, I have Chinese heritage.

French? Nah. Too mainstream.

Latin? Nah. Sexy… but *still* quite mainstream.

Thai? Sanskrit? Arabic? Japanese?

Then it struck me

A Greek tattoo came vaguely to mind since my high school days.

Unfortunately, I hadn't a single grasp nor knowledge whatsoever about the language and I didn't wanna trust Google Translate – of all things!

But guess what?

This year proves to be the best & most coincidental time for me to finally get started on my Greek tattoo because my Greek boyfriend and his father so kindly helped me translate the quotes I had in mind and pen out the sentences in perfect grammar for me.

For that, I wholeheartedly thank the both of you, Σας ευχαριστούμε Κωνσταντίνος και Γεώργιος!

SEMI FRONTAL VIEW

After 5 hours into the procedure : and it's done!

So that was it. My latest (5th and counting!) tattoo – the ribcage tattoo in Greek.

What's next? Okay so… I know I owe you stories of my past 4 tattoos in the past.

So hit the button and let's begin!

It was my freshman year of college back in 2007.

So young and innocent… yet wild, bold and raring to go!

2007 : 1st ink

The tribal heart lower back tattoo

It was done at a friend's house by a tattoo artist from Singapore who was touring Malaysia at that time.

Oh guess what? I found something quite interesting. My blogpost about this very first tattoo!

My reaction after reading that blogpost written by my 18 year old self :

Oh geez. Seriously, 18 year old Jess, seriously?

Exactly a year later….

2008 : 2nd ink

The tribal cat outline left shoulder blade tattoo

Trivia time!

I deliberately requested one of my kitty's right eye to be blacked out.

Bet you didn't know, my own right eye is semi-blacked out as well. My right vision is terribly impaired.

Felt somewhat proud yet nervous at the same time.

Someone was interviewing & filming me throughout the process!

DONE DONE DONE!

Had it done in Mandala Tattoo parlour

Candid shot displaying my 1st two tattoos

Expecting another tattoo a year later? Well no, not in 2009.

Skipped a year of tattooing; that year put me through something more painful than that.

What can I say? The emotional pain that lingered outweighed physical pain any day.

But once that was over and dealt with…….

MADE A COMEBACK

2010 : 3rd ink

The Egyptian Eye of Horus wrist tattoo

If you haven't read it, I found my blogpost that I wrote about this wrist tattoo written back then! 🙂

Since I've skipped out on a year, I had TWO tattoos done in that year to make up for it.

So here's the second tattoo done in 2010 :

2010 : 4th ink

A winged camera + film neck (nape) tattoo

Inking session in motion – outlines first!

Keep on going!

My not-so-enthusiastic-but-holding-in-the-pain face

Had both my tattoos of 2010 in Singapore by this Phillipino tattoo artist who owns a shop in Orchard Road

Filling it in….

Done before you know it!

I absolutely love how it peeks outta my back collar like that

I hope you've enjoyed the short history trip back into time.

And now…… as mentioned in the beginning of this post.

2011 : 5th ink

A Greek scripture ribcage tattoo

So there you have it, an entire post which encapsulates my entire journey of tattoo thus far.

Don't ask me why I do this, why I inflict myself with pain on the surface of my skin is honestly beyond me

Perhaps, I find it an incredible journey of self discovery, personalization.

Truth be told, it does not, in any way alter my personality even one tiny bit

I know will look back with nostalgia and reminisce my younger days of what was significant to my youth.

My body is a canvas and body art leaves an indelible mark I will hold close & personal to me for life.

Bear them to my grave, I shall.

My defeat at pre-drinks King’s Cup X Toga Party! Let the drunken shenanigans roll…

May 12, 2011 by thejessicat

Sorry I took a while to write this blogpost.

Was laden with assignments (still am!) but here's the post so stop bugging me about it already, rawr!

bring on the Greek goddesses 😛 😛

If you remember this preview post I blogged just before I headed to the party, you would kinda remember I had a similar picture to this:

except without Todd photobombing me from behind!

So as usual, my mates and I were having pre-drinks before the party

We decided to play King's Cup tonight.

Here's some of us! The rest had adjourned to the party already

I finished my bottle of Baileys and ran outta drinks in the midst of the party

LOL forcing drinks down Devin's throat and applying eyeshadow on him

Check out his sweet lavender eyeshadow bwahahaha!

Must be a dare or something

Anyway, back to the game.

The whole lot of us played and played, did hilarious stuff and when the final round came… I LOST THE GAME.

and had to drink the entire full King's Cup of the mixture of everyone's different drinks FML

That was NOT good 🙁

Nasty and it's a one way bottoms up without stopping

down to my last few sips… I hate this game! Ughh

And so I finished. Am actually surprised I didn't pass out or anything, seeing that I finished my own bottle of Baileys and had a few shots of bourbon before King's Cup.

I'm lasting longer than I thought! But my head was already very woozy

All my mates knew I was SO smashed and sub-conscious already

I initially couldn't give a rat's arse about going to Toga Party anymore for I was light headed and all I wanted to do was to sleep.

But then again, we were all dolled up, dressed up and looking our best to go already 🙁

So how can I just ditch the party?

Bleh. So I went ahead hoping to survive throughout the entire night

goodness gracious if I didn't change the lighting of this picture, I would look even more red and flushed

Hit the party in full swing

Don't remember this picture being taken nor who this person is

Sorry for blurry photos, tipsy photos aren't really the best

The DJs of the night!!! DJ Nick James and his special guest DJ

(blur photo again, I know)

By the drinks bar…. can't believe they still wanna drink some more!

I've clearly surrendered LOL

Make way for more tipsy shots.

Since I don't remember most parts of the night, let's see the drunk shenanigans roll –

With Benny!

He's lookin' all hyper here

With Laura Cook and someone's head popping up behind

She looked like a Chinese monk tonite!

With Kayla 😀

Two kitty fanatics… purrrr purrr meow!

With Konzy!

Still pissed drunk. Need some zzzzzzzz's

With Rowan!

He's looking all Sparta 300 tonight

With Laura!

Though I still don't get what's with the mouth drawings… but it's pretty cool 😀

Don't remember this photo! But it looks like we were on the dance floor

Outside on the uni deck with more mates in Togas!

Romans/Greeks in white!

With Cherie, Brittany and Laura

Deanna reminded me of Medusa that night!

Also don't remember this photo… AND WHY AM I HOLDING MY PASSPORT?

Back outside at the deck chilling

FINALLY. I remember this photo! 😀 😀

I think I managed to sober up by the end of the night. Phew!

From the photos, it looked like a fun party had broke free last Wednesday night!

It's a pity my only memories was from the pictures I have. Ohwell… one last themeparty to go next week:

GOOD vs. EVIL Bring it on!

Sigh. I KNEW I should've brought my devilish horns & pitchfork to Aussie with me

My Greek venture on a Sunday afternoon! Hellenic cuisine @ The Olive Grove | Richmond, Melbourne

May 8, 2011 by thejessicat

Just before I headed to Sydney for the Easter holidays, I decided to meet up with a friend of mine for some Greek delights.

If you guys have read my tweets on Twitter, yall would've known where I went for this nomfest already!

One of my new fave delicacies – Greek food!

Also, I can't believe I've never had it ever before I came to Aussie

So the Sunday just before I left for Sydney, Grace and I headed to this restaurant to have our Hellenic cuisine 🙂

Right along Bridge Road in Richmond, lay a very cosy 'The Olive Grove' Greek eatery. Bingo!

In for lunchies we go!

I loved the interior to bits.

It was in pristine condition; elaborately decorated, yet still boasted a minimalistic concept

The table set-up had a tinge of fine dining to it

Chandeliers, large wooden-framed mirrors and wenge-like furniture

We were ushered to a nice lil table for two and given the menu.

The first thing we ordered was some unctuous wine to kick-start our palate 🙂

'

Some red and white wine for us ladies, please? 🙂

Carbonello for me and Chardonay for her 😀

Although I do prefer white wine to reds, I reckon a slight venture into an acquired  taste would be nice

So we did some catching up and clinking our wine glasses over funny conversations and itsybitsies of our lives 🙂

I vividly remember how we met for the first time though; on the plane. Yup, you read right.

Grace and I met on our flight to Melbourne, some 2 months ago.

And now, we're sitting here together, having a splendid lunch on an Easter Sunday 😀 What are the odds, ey?

Our food came and it sure looked yummy. Here's what we ate, beginning from the Mezedes:

Skordalia and Melitzana served with Pita Bread

(Greek translation: puree of potatoes, garlic & lemon and roasted smoked eggplant sprea)

They were best served warm. Perfect with the dips

I always love the lemon twang in my food, just like how I enjoy most of my meals extra (black) peppery.

Our mains arrived and oh lookie here, a candid picture of me squeezing the lemon!

Lo and behold, get ready for some food porn! 😛

Our mains are as follows :

Soutzoukakia,Marithes and Chicken Souvlaki

(Greek translation: tomato salsa meatballs, white bait and marinated chicken skewers)

It was so nommy! I loved the meatballs – it was so juicy and rich in flavour. Massive too!

The white bait was more like Malaysian 'ikan bilis' to us LOL talk about familiarity 😛

And the chicken skewers was simply fabulous

Reminds me of grilled chicken satay, back in Malaysia – only yummier!

Kalamari, Keftedes & Loukanika

(Greek translation: Calamari, ground beef mince patties & spicy lamb sausages)

The fried calamari was absolute yum and so were the beef patties!

But I didn't really like the sausage, Grace liked it though. She said it tasted like Taiwanese sausages.

Ok since I'm always smiling and readily posed in most of the photos posted up in my blog, below is a rather unglam photo for you to see. Bleh.

It's me nomming – I don't know what it is – looks like the meatball to me.

Also, we had potato crisps served with our meals too. Just the way I like it –

salty crinkle-cut types! 😀 😀 😀 which is probably why I love Cottage Fries so much.

Hand chopped patates crisps

All's well, end's well.

We had a great catch up lunch and shopping in Melbourne Central followed thereafter 🙂

thanks Olive Grove, for a deliciously good time! 😀

Now I know where to get good Greek food. Here, in Richmond!

There's more Hellenic cuisines in Melbourne city too… and in Oakleigh. Heaps of them 😀

Once again, cheers to friendship unexpectedly brewed from an 8 hour plane ride

We click so well that it's not even funny 😀 Now that's why I love flying…

…for you'll never know who you'll meet during a flight!
