10 things I learned from being away from my iPhone.

October 21, 2014 by thejessicat

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Hi! No I’m not dead. I’m just not online. Many of you (sweethearts) have called or sent me emails asking if I’m alright, how I’m doing or if everything is okay.

Yes, my dears, I’m fine.
I just haven’t been living in my online sphere that’s all.

I’m still kicking and very much alive – in a place called the real world.

There’s such a thing, you know? 😛

Two weeks ago, I sent in my iPhone 5S to Maxis for some troubleshooting due to some battery issues. It all started a month ago.

When my iPhone’s usual 6-7 hour battery life took a nosedive into a miserable 3 hour lifespan, I began to think something was amiss.

But I only knew for certain that something was dreadfully wrong was when one night’s sleep – without touching my iPhone, could deplete its juice from 100% down to 17%.

DribbleDribbleDribbleDribbleDribbleDribble

Before any of you techies jump to conclusion, yes – all my apps are turned off, battery-draining features/settings are disabled and nothing is running in the background.

Chop sign confirm la. Cool
Okay, back to the story.
So I sent it in and I was told that within 14 working days, Apple’s standard practice usually has customers getting back a new iPhone of the same model to replace their faulty current one! Hurrah! New iPhone. Laughing

Looks like I won’t be needing to get my iPhone 6 after all hehe. Big Smile

Anyway, it has been almost 2 weeks and I’ve been having pretty mixed feelings about being deprived of a smartphone in today’s fast-paced bubble, home to my own kind, Generation X & Y. Here’s what I have to say.

THE GOOD Ha Ha

1.     I actually READ THE NEWSPAPER now.

No, it isn’t an ‘old-man thing to do’.  I am sitting in San Francisco Coffee as we speak and I’ve just finished reading the New Straits Times, The Star and the New York Times.

It has been a long time since I’ve touched a hard copy of a periodical.

And hey look – my fingers are darkened with carbon-stained ink. Laughing This reminds me of my high school days where my fingers will all be blackened after reading the newspaper!

I’ve begun to continue where I left off in my daily reading habits.
Truth be told, there’s nothing like the tactile pleasure of flipping pages. Not e-pages or Kindles, mind you, I’m referring to actual paperback novels.

My bookmarks and bookshelves at home now play more than just decoration feigning intelligence. I used to be such an avid reader when I was younger and now… I’m back to reading bedtime stories! (Gee, I hope this lasts)

Oh and you know when I see well-dressed guys in geeky glasses reading a novel while waiting at a café, a bus stop or whatever?  That is so sexy. Just saying.Cool

2.    I pay attention to my surroundings!
Ergo, I realize I don’t bump into objects/people while walking.

OR walk into the wrong bathroom as often anymore. Damn. Been one too many times… Yell

I tend to look around more around the suburbs, towns and cities I’m in and the places I go, instead of keeping my eyes fixated on my phone running my blog, replying emails, replying texts and keeping updated with social media feeds & digital marketing pointers on all platforms. Surprised

Hey, don’t blame me. Social media is my profession.

That’s the industry that puts the food on my plate.

Sometimes, I take multitasking too seriously when I’m with my iPhone.

3.    I am closer to the people around me.
Chatting with my loved ones and friends face-to-face beats typing on a touch screen, hands down! Social media…? More like anti-social media, because most smartphone savvy & social media junkies neglect their nearest and dearest way too often.

It is not only disrespectful to be glued to your phones whilst out with anyone, but it also implies that whatever it is on your screen is more interesting that the person/company you’re with. Undecided

Guilty?

Talking to other people when you’re supposed to be talking to the ones in close proximity?

Not a very nice thing to do.
Being apart from my iPhone has brought me even closer to my bestest buddies during outings and I’m thankful for those real moments spent side by side.

Thankfully, I never ever have this problem with moo, as we naturally put away our phones when we’re spending quality time together or out on dates. Kiss Yay!

4.    Living in the moment instead of always trying to capture the moment.
This is where photographic memory kicked in. During those two weeks, I got to live in the moment and depended on my memory to smile back on, instead of trying relentlessly to capture everything on my camera roll and video stream.

Just like the old times – wasn’t life much easier to take in all you see with your OWN RETINA instead of that retina display?

I know how good memories ought to be recorded for keepsake and good things ought to be shared; but to a certain extent. Having the liberty and the growing dependency on my iPhone has exceeded this ‘certain extent’ to every hour and every day.

5.    Admittedly, I now pay rock solid attention on the road.
Don’t chide me for this. I know how dangerous it is, but I’ve been doing this throughout all my years of driving. Maybe I’m just good at it – LOL I shouldn’t speak too soon.

But I’ve got a clean track record of driving to prove it. Nothing to be proud of but yes, just putting it out there 😛 #JustSaying

This only becomes a bane when you’re stuck in a merciless traffic jam alone and there’s absolutely nothing to do and no one to chat with or nothing to entertain yourself with.

I used to smoke while driving on the road but ever since I quit smoking, I now have even lesser things to do.

6.    Safety reasons.
My phone is now always snugly in my bag instead of exposed to snatch thieves.

As mentioned in previous blog posts, my iPhone never leaves the palm of my hand. I like being extremely contactable and almost all my replies are instant – sue me.

But for the past 2 weeks, I’m hardly ever contactable so I didn’t see the point of holding my phone 24/7 anymore. Surprised

Sometimes, I even forget that I have my phone in my bag at all! Which is a good thing… I think. Since this exhibits a significant detachment to my phone.

Yay! Progress. Big Smile

Crap. I sound like I need rehab for mobile phone & internet addiction. Surprised

THE BAD  Furious

1.    I get lost on the road!

I am a hopeless nut on the road without my GPS, Waze or even Google Maps, resulting in unnecessary time wasted in traffic gridlocks due to all the wrong turns and detours.

Time & fuel wasted – now that’s frustrating. Yell

2.    Moo & I can’t get in touch
We talk and chat on a daily (more like hourly! Haha) basis and without my phone, we weren’t able to text via Whatsapp! That really sucks. Cry

Sure, there’s always SMS but seriously…? This isn’t the year 2002 anymore.

Nobody CHATS via SMS, unless you’re willing to pay for each time a text is sent. Yikes. That’s not chatting to me.

So we resorted to things like Gtalk, emails and Skype when I’m on the computer.

For the record, I use SMS too but the only SMS I receive is from Maxis.

3.    Similar to the above, I am unreachable instantly.
None of my clients are able to quickly get in touch with me or invite me to their events.

It will leave them wondering why I’m not keen all of a sudden. I also don’t get to chat with my family in our chatroom anymore.

Random (silly) Whatsapp chats with mom.

My friends also wonder why I’ve stopped replying them on Whatsapp…

4.    No access to details and information.
You know how sometimes when you just want a quick check of information, names, prices, dates, spelling, location and so on? Google is always your best friend.

Yeah, being able to access details like that in under 5 seconds now leaves me hanging in the dark and struggling to retrieve information I need, especially when I really need to know something on the spot. Cry

It absolutely sucks when you’re just so used to finding out the answers to your questions almost immediately!

Looks like we’ve weighed both the bad and the good… so which one triumphs?

Being away from your phone for so long makes you realize u can actually live without it and maximize LIFE as it is, nature, surroundings, people and everything around you instead of occupying yourself with only your phone.

First world problems, indeed. Ahh!

That said, of course you can easily say ‘why not just put it down or turn it off?’ Easier said than done, darling. People have become so attached to their gadgets that it’s as though their lives depended on it.

There’s more to life than the windows in your gadget.

Using the mobile phone is inevitable, but I guess being apart from my iPhone for what feels like eternity was a very interesting life lesson. A kind of lesson that reminds you of what really matters most.

Now… moving on, dear Maxis, would you give me back my phone already?

I think you’ve done me a good favour by teaching me this wonderful lesson. Also, I think I’ve had enough isolation. 😛 I promise I won’t abuse this freedom again. Teehee. Laughing

Beautiful AND hardcore: Otterbox Symmetry is my new tough love!

October 9, 2014 by thejessicat

Go ahead, let your phone slip right out of your hand carelessly or let it fall off your lap absent-mindedly. Drop your phone on the ground or lose your grip accidentally before watching it fall prey to gravity.

I worry not about your phone… for I worry more about the concrete floor instead! WHY?

Allow me to introduce my stylish new iPhone case from OtterBox’s Symmetry Series in Dreamy Pink. Say hi! She’s pretty, isn’t she? Kiss

OtterBox, the #1 Most trusted smartphone case protection in the US and Canada, has recently created one of the slimmest and most protective smartphone case in its class.

If you haven’t heard of OtterBox, you must be living under a rock… far, far away from the tech world, for Otterbox is a global leader and award-winner in protection for smartphones, gadgets and mobile devices since the year 1998!

Needless to say, I was truly delighted when I received a surprise parcel addressed to me from OtterBox themselves! Laughing

Check it out:

Opened the parcel to find the latest Symmetry Series in Dreamy Pink,

alongside a beauty-fashion survival kit and a lovely handwritten note. Also check out the time I went to Celcom’s launch of the iPhone 5 here.

OtterBox’s picks in their fashion survival kit:

Travel-sized Sephora beauty/cosmetic/vanity goodies to keep me looking good at all times!

What has a beauty-fashion survival kit got to do with a smartphone case protection, you ask? Because style matters! Wink

Compared to its other hardcore predecessors, such as the Armor Series, Defender Series and Commuter Series, the Symmetry Series takes style and fashion seriously.

 [youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQH2fZCMzrY” width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

If style & personality didn’t matter, you could just wrap your phone in a plastic shell and call it a day, right? I know that I simply cannot. Admittedly, I am one who loves everything to be aesthetically pleasing on top of its practicality. Tongue Out

My gadgets, tools of trade, apparel, footwear, accessories or heck, even the furniture & walls around me has to look pretty. (Geez  I can’t wait to own my first house. It’s gonna look like the best of an IKEA showroom – I swear)

Yes, I do go out colour coordinated. Last Wednesday’s theme was white.

I actually love how versatile my dreamy pink Symmetry iPhone case is.

It is simple, pretty, mildly funky yet has this touch of femininity – something I would definitely take to every business meeting, every party, every dinner date, every music festival and every outdoor activity! Cool

Here’s some pictures of me going out with it:

Another day in the office – jives effortlessly on casual Fridays!

Contrasted well with my vibrant outfit on regular outings and spontaneous meetings

Hello from the fitting room!

Matches well with my eccentric wear on outings and rave parties!

And yet goes seamlessly well with my corporate attire for business meetings!

My iPhone and iPad tag-team also dresses up in matching pastel pink shades!

Now you see how style matters to me so much? Big Smile

OtterBox must’ve granted my wishes in my sleep. The new Symmetry Series lets us choose from a wide array of colours and graphics, so we can protect our precious smartphones yet strut our style and stand out from the rest at the same time.

Look at some of the designs they have!

Having a dull boring colour on hardcore gadget protection is so yesterday – unless you’re a person who likes monotonous &  monochromatic colours, then I guess that’s fine by you. Shocked

But for the ones sitting on the opposing spectrum of design, you can continue to revel in delight. Symmetry does come in a full range of both bright & breezy colours (RM169) as well as the solid single-coloured ones (RM149). Laughing

I know all you’re seeing is about the iPhone. It’s also available for the iPhone 6 now too! Talk about being quick, eh? Tongue Out

But fret not. For those of you non-Apple iWorshippers, the Symmetry Series is also available for the Samsung Galaxy S4/S4 and the HTC One M8.

Moving on…

I haven’t even come to the BEST PART of the Symmetry Series yet. Ha Ha

Aside from it’s pretty sight, it is specially made to protect your phone from heart-stopping drops, without doing any damage to you or your phone’s pristine state.

So yes, go ahead and drop it in style; tough smartphone protection just got prettier.

I’m sure nothing makes us happier than getting protection from a brand we can trust. And I mean this in more ways than one… 😛 *coughs*

Featuring a streamlined design that delivers tough protection from drops and shock, this stylish OtterBox case gives you something no one else can — confidence knowing your device is well protected by a shockproof, drop-proof and scratchproof (pretty!) armour.

My iPhone all pretty & protected every single day at all times!

Its internal synthetic ruber means its ready for the hardest of bumps and the specially designed, raised beveled edge keeps your touchscreen safe from harm too. Say goodbye to unsightly scratches on your screen.

Mine was badly slashed up before OtterBox saved my (phone’s) life! I Surrender!

[youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0BJQWSh-i4″ width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

As illustrated in the video above, its dual material construction absorbs shock and withstands drops with ease. Watch it; it will give you a better understanding of how the shockproof feature works in your favour.

The style you want, the protection you need… is now all yours. Go get it and thank me later!

So hardcore that I have no worries bringing it to the gym!

Let my barbells drop on it for all I care. Whooops. Sorry. Are you hurt? I guess not. 😛

I have to honestly acknowledge that Symmetry is a God sent gift by OtterBox!

For a person that is rather lackadaisical with the protection of my belongings, most of my gadgets are often scratched and dented due to my nonchalance. Undecided

I also tend to multitask by taking pictures & selfies, texting and catching up with my social media feeds all while walking and running my errands. Frown

You can see how my iPhone is always snug in the palm of my hands – never leaving my sight. I don’t put it in my handbag nor my pockets ever. Therefore, I tend to drop it a lot 🙁

Speaking of dropping phones, watch this funny and cute ad for the Symmetry Series!

[youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zgxKH36VMQ” width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

HAHHAAHAH. Yup, doesn’t hurt at all!

OtterBox Symmetry in dreamy pink amongst my notes and work scribbles

OtterBox even has a built-in powerbank case called the Resurgence Series. Surprised

Imagine a heavy user like me trying to efficiently use my iPhone without draining its battery before midday – don’t even get me started.

Hey, I work in social media 24/7, what do you expect? Hit with Brick

I will be sharing all about my new Resurgence iPhone case with you soon! Definitely another God-sent gift to Generation Y.

Thank you OtterBox, for Symmetry – a revolutionary invention!

Now that’s what I call beauty with a purpose.

A sonic brilliance. Hitting all the right notes with the new Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones!

April 14, 2014 by thejessicat

Being an ardent fan of all things music, especially within the genres of Electronic Dance Music, Punk Rock and Symphonic Metal, I am often on a never-ending hunt for a good pair of headphones.

My bounty? That ‘eargasmic’ experience of sound quality and comfort.

Today, I’d like to share some thoughts in a review of the new Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones.

But first, thank you Sennheiser Malaysia, for making this possible.

[vimeo url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPPON3ImNBw” width=”700″ height=”400″ full=”no” ]

Before we begin, check out the official video for the Momentum On-Ear!

UNBOXING

Bet you’re just as excited as I am! Shall we begin? Ha Ha

Unboxing the brand new toy.

Removed the lid of the box.

The first thing I saw was a black suede case in the shape of a horseshoe, with dual zippers.

Opening the case, I was surprised to see another case – a vinyl bag this time!

And finally, right before my eyes, was the Momentum On-Ear.

Such a sleek, stylish beauty – and in my favorite colours too!

Yes, I’m always biased towards red & black. Heh.

Unboxing this pair of headphones proved to be a satisfaction indeed. Cool

Moving on, I will be splitting this review into 3 distinct sections – design, sound and practicality.

DESIGN, MATERIAL & STYLE

For starters, like its name suggests, the Momentum On-Ear, is designed as an on-ear, instead of an over-ear on an in-ear pair of headphones.

This is a first for me as I’m more familiar with the other two types.

Size-wise, expect a slightly smaller design compared to its predecessor, the Sennheiser Momentum.

They’re beautifully made, stylish and god damn fine without a doubt.

I love how it did not fall prey to the ‘futuristic’ trends of gadget design. Apart from the tinge of modern touch and material, the Momentum On-Ear came as a blast from the past for me.

Doesn’t it reminds you of those classic headsets worn by radio operators back in the 50s!? Such love.

The synthetic-suede headband is a very clever and nice touch, while those stainless-steel sliders really turned up the classy, industrial appearance a notch higher.

Beautifully made, with such precision in its engineering and craftsmanship, don’t you think?

The vibrant colours and its shiny, high-gloss finish is flawless too!

If you ain’t diggin’ the classic black, it comes in a myriad of different colours.

Brown, blue, green, black, ivory and pink. Take your pick.

Polished steel lines the frame with Sennheiser’s holographic ‘S’ logo cut into the caps.

 Thumbs up!

SOUND & PERFORMANCE

Having the Momentum On-Ear in my possession for about almost a month now, I have been using it every single day with many different kinds of songs from various sound spectrums, acoustics vs electronics, bass responses, vocals, mid-ranges, differing frequencies and trebles.

So how did this pair of headphones perform?

Firstly, I’ve gotta give props to its warm, rich, and very punchy bass. Just the way I like it!

The Momentum On-Air certainly has a well-extended and boosted bass response compared to the rest of its competitors in its range but… not as overpowering as a certain popular pair of headphones in particular.

Did anyone say Dr. Dre or David Guetta? 😉 No? Okay, moving on!

Tuesday’s comparison to one of my many headphones.

The trebles were very detailed and crisp but well-balanced and controlled with the rest of the frequency range. It proved to be sufficiently dominant especially when hitting the high notes too!

The high-pitched tracks I played such as  electric guitar solos of rock songs, electro genres, and the female soprano of symphonic metal resulted in a rich, clean and distortion-free experience, despite playing it at maximum volumes.

Compared to the stronger bass presence and the impressive trebles, I found the mid-range to be slightly withdrawn, but not enough to affect the overall listening wonder the Momentum On-Air has given me nor hamper the quality of the tracks I listen to.

It would be better if the mid-range was a little more forward in my honest opinion, but then again, nothing to complain about; especially if you’re a regular home-user or a casual/easy-listener. Smile

I have to point out though, that it does not provide much isolation from environmental noise. But hey, this doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing – it really depends what you’re using it for.

If you’re walking about in the busy city streets, crossing the road or commuting via public transportation (i.e trains/busses) with these babies, then it’s probably not such a good idea to be too isolated and locked into your own world.

The least you’d want is to sub-consciously dismiss a honk and get run over LOL. Ugh!

Personally, when I use my headphones, it will either be hanging around my neck as opposed to putting it over my ears OR just putting it over one ear instead of both.

I kind of *still* want to be aware of my surroundings, like if my bosses call my name or if there was an important announcement at the gym.

PRACTICALITY & COMFORT

I like how it’s kept snugly in two cases – the vinyl soft case and the horseshoe-like hardshell.

However, there isn’t a folding mechanism on the Momentum On-Ear which would make listening on-the-go much easier in terms of packing and saving storage space.

If you’re more inclined towards listening to your music while solitary, then it’s nothing for you to worry about! Wink

Attention was even put into the making of the cables. You have not one, but two cables!

The Apple-friendly cable comes with a 3-button remote control and microphone, but there’s another plain cable for those who don’t want or don’t use the remote and microphone.

The remote is slim and sleek, which comes with a 90 degree angle 3.5mm plug too.

The earcups are easily adjustable by simply sliding them up and down the stainless steel body, instead of typically having the whole moving mechanism built into the entire body of the headphones.

The Momentum On-Ear is certainly an ergonomic pair of headphones as I tend to use my headphones over long listening periods of time!

Funnily enough, my ears aren’t exactly tiny and even with all my over-ear headphones, the earcups seem to hurt the upper parts of my ear.

I also have multiple piercings on my ears and they usually hurt due to the compression/pressure of the earcups after an entire day’s worth of heavy listening.

But surprisingly, even after 8 hours with the Momentum On-Ear, I had no complaints!Big Smile

The ear pads feature a a two-layer foam cushion and gripped my ears

with just the right amount of pressure to remain there.

In conclusion, I find the Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear not only a comfortable and fashionably stylish piece, but also an overall winner in the on-ear range. With the rich and enhanced audio performance, it sure is powerful enough to make me head-bang throughout its super sonic brilliance.

Retails at RM809. Get it from your local audio stores or your nearest Sennheiser outlet/booths! Wink

Get your geek on! Dear web developers, this is how to ensure you pass your Oracle Certification Exam.

December 19, 2013 by thejessicat

Fun fact: Being both in a direct circle of friends and working closely with a particular group of people will indirectly lead to an increased interest in what they do.

This is something no one can debunk… as psychologically, we humans do function in that strange way.

Similarly, having many close tech-oriented friends plus working in a digital advertising agency full of web developers and web programmers somehow made me somewhat more interested in programming languages than I already am.

What jargon do you speak of? Does this programming script confuse you?

Hello World, welcome to the codes of JAVA.

This interest is earnest as I have personally taken multimedia, web development and programming courses in college. Though rather basic, I learnt quite a fair deal and possess enough knowledge to hold a tech conversation.Kiss

I have even tweaked and coded my old blog layout back in 2009 when I was less rusty than I am now!

JAVA (not the coffee, mind you) is one of the many, many

computer programming languages that I’ve learnt previously.

Recently, I’ve heard many of my programmer friends speaking about wanting to get an Oracle Certification and I got evidently curious.

Most of them even told me they aim to pass that exam to get to ‘next-level’ programmer status LOL.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ORACLE CERTIFICATION?

The Oracle Certification Program are IT Professional certifications for Oracle and Sun Microsystems products.
There are three levels of Oracle Certification in several disciplines: Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), and Oracle Certified Master (OCM).

These certification are particularly designated for administrators and developers.

Oracle’s Certified Professional SE Programmer (OCPJP) exam is the fundamental exam required to demonstrate solid understanding of Java and is a prerequisite to a number of the other Java certificates.

It is designed as a fairly detailed test of knowledge of the core features and constructs of the Java programming language. Alien

It tests a wide range of Java’s APIs and core features, starting from basics such as looping constructs and variables, to more complex topics such as Threads, Collections and Generics.

To put it in layman’s terms, the exam is basically a test of how well a

programmer has understood the language constructs and mechanisms.

Anyone who has ever taken a professional certification exam knows it can be a very stressful process.

There is a lot riding on successful completion of an Oracle certification exam. You will need to invest time, money and energy in the exam preparation process and you’ll also need to find the right resources for helping you reach your goals.

What are your goals? Surprised

Just like all other exams, an Oracle certification exam requires you to set up and maintain a consistent study schedule.Smile

Most exams take at least a couple of months to learn all of the necessary materials and the more advanced and expert level exams can take six months or more to truly master the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary for successfully passing the exam.

You’ll need to set a reasonable and realistic study schedule for learning the materials and make sure you stick with the schedule regardless of what other commitments you may have in your life.

Trying to master the materials too quickly will only lead to subpar learning.

Unless well… you’re born with it.

You may be able to skim the surface of the materials in just a few weeks, but most people need significantly more time to really master the details for an Oracle certification exam.

For this reason, you should allot ample time for learning and not try to rush the process.Cool

Being a serious person in academics myself, I would seize the best I can should I decide to take an Oracle cert one day.

You will require some prep resources and tutorial services when studying for an Oracle certification exam. But lucky us, there are many resources available online for self study and that offer practice exams for Oracle as well! So I guess it shouldn’t be too hard anymore, eh? Laughing

One of the ones I would strongly recommend is ExamTrace.com (Click here) as it is among the most affordable and best resources to check out.

With ExamTrace, passing your Oracle Certification will be a breeze now. Good luck and all the best!

Treat me a cup of JAVA coffee when you score good grades for the test, aight? Tongue Out

Weekend with a mysterious device – REVEALED! Say hello to my Nokia Lumia 925.

September 20, 2013 by thejessicat

Remember my weekend spent in darkness?

It was spent in the city after sunset, going to a dimly lit massage & spa centre, eating out late at night, partying at Zouk Club KL. Blog post: here

As expected, I would always never get decent photos of my nightlife with just my mobile phone… but that weekend was different. With my new sidekick, I managed to snap awesome photos to remember my weekend!

Did you manage to guess what new gadget that was?

If you didn’t… allow me to reveal its identity.
Drumroll please.

Say hello to the very special, tiny yet mighty gadget, the: NOKIA LUMIA 9

Yup, this is Nokia’s latest smart phone.
One that prides itself on its low-light photography abilities!

I’ve been with my new Nokia Lumia 925 for more than a month now and I must say I am truly impressed with it.
No matter how much technology has advanced, no matter how many gadget brands come up with crazier and crazier mobile phones and no matter which smartphone is the mainstream favorite now, truth is, I’ll always be a Nokia girl at heart.

Getting a little nostalgic here, but my very first cellphone was a Nokia.
It was the legendary, invincible, meme-popular and crabshell opener (LOL) phone:

NOKIA 3310

After that phone served me for a good few years in primary school, I moved on to something cooler – the Nokia 3315. Then, when everyone at school had coloured screens and polyphonic ringtones which were all the rage back then (Gosh I feel old now), my parents got me the Nokia 3100 – in light pink!

Someone then stole it from me in a shopping mall and I was so heartbroken.

My godmum came to my rescue and since I loved Nokia so much, she bought me the Nokia 3220.

That, to my best memory was really cool! The sides would light up and glow in the dark whenever my phone rang!

My then-boyfriend had a Nokia too; it was the Nokia N-Gage. We spent lotsa time playing music and mobile gaming on his phone! It was top notch in the market for its sound system too at the time.

In college and university, I was bitten by the smartphone bug and switched sides after winning one in a contest.
Who would have known 12 years down the road after my first love Nokia, I would be proudly using a Nokia once more?

I was smitten all over again, I tell ya.

At a glance, the Nokia Lumia 925 has a very pretty display and looks amazingly slim, sleek and stylish.

I loved it smooth metal finish and shiny silver body. The look and feel was just spectacular.

You really should hold one for yourself and feel the difference.

In terms of user experience, its display was sharp, crisp and sported bright and strong colours.

The transition from page to page was smooth and I found myself switching between screens and apps flawlessly.

I use a Windows 8 computer so I was practically soaring through the Nokia Lumia 925 like a breeze.

Everything, including the apps and icons on the homepage are all customizable too!

On to its ground-breaking, jaw-dropping camera capabilities.
Here are some very fascinating facts about Nokia’s camera smartphone capabilities.

It is of no surprise that the Nokia Lumia 925’s wondrous camera can take such captivating photos, especially at night as it has 6 physical lenses and uses Carl Zeiss optics!

In fact, I actually took two photos at the exact same moment and exact same place with: my own smartphone V/S the Nokia Lumia 925 just to compare the two images taken and I was shocked at the difference!
Take a look:

(pretty obvious which phone, eh? Clue: you probably have the same phone)

Unbelievable, right? No editing done on both photos btw!

How does Nokia Malaysia’s cover photo look? Nice? 😛

It came as a surprise when my friends informed me that two of my photos taken with the Nokia Lumia 925 ended up featured as the cover photo for Nokia Malaysia’s official Facebook page! Squeeee!

Here they are. Thanks for the shout out Nokia!

I guess it really shows how gorgeous the photos taken from the Nokia Lumia 925 can turn out to be!

I’m trying in vain to be subtle here LOL but take a look at this comparison.

Check out this ad which speaks for itself.
I myself own both these phones and I can totally vouch for this.

And don’t get me started on the built-in photo editing apps that comes with it!
It was so much fun playing and experimenting with its revolutionary camera.

I loved how the Nokia Lumia 925 can instantly snap photos with just a tap on the screen too.

That way, it auto-focuses on the tapped spot and brightens & illuminates the photograph sans the grainy noise.
The result? A much clearer and brighter image even under terrible, dim lighting!
I wonder how they come up with such a technology.

With a camera like that on my mobile phone, I wouldn’t need to lug  my heavy camera anymore, eh? 😉

Check out this very interesting and informational video to see how the
Nokia Lumia 925’s camera works and its camera user interface.

Check out some of the other types of photos that I’ve snapped with my Nokia Lumia 925 on very, very dim lighting.

From self-shots, to indoor ones, to food and many more!

More amazing low-light photography I’ve snapped with the Nokia Lumia 925 in my previous blog post: here.

Many of you have been telling me that the only setback of using a Nokia is that you would have to say goodbye to Instagram, as Nokia’s operating system, Windows 8, did not have an app for it.
But guess what?

Windows 8 has just launched its official Instagram client app, 6tag!

Admittedly, I was out of touch for a while. But not only did Nokia’s incredulous progress and change impress me by tenfold, its interface, features and capabilities made me swoon.

Its user-friendliness and remarkable battery life, however,

remained the same – just as I fondly remembered it.

I also used the Nokia Lumia 925 a lot for browsing. The loading time was short and the pages, images and text rendered very smoothly. I did not experience any lag.
Calling and texting was a piece of cake too – the clarity and reception were excellent.
In terms of media playback, like its sound, music and videos, I was very happy with the quality both with and without earphones.

For my tech-savvy readers out there, here are the specifications:

I am so ecstatic to be finally using a non-mainstream phone once again.

One that I daresay is probably better and kicks ass harder than all the other smartphones out there.

Oh by the way, it also charges wirelessly. That’s right, no more messy, tangled wires! Heaven just heard my plea 😉

Can your mobile phone do that?

Overall, it’s powerful, vibrant and smooth on the inside and extremely light and classy on the outside.

For a girl very particular with gadget aesthetics like I am, this Nokia Lumia 925 is certainly more than just a pretty boy that blew me away.

I think I’ve just fallen in love all over again.
