My 24th Birthday | Episode Three: With my sweethearts at PickNik, Publika!

August 3, 2013 by thejessicat

[dropcap type=”square” round=”yes” color=”#f5f5f5″ background_color=”#800000″ ]W[/dropcap]hen you think you’ve gotten enough of birthdays for the year,  your best friend decides to spring up on you and take you out on what would be your third birthday celebration to date.
Needless to say, I couldn’t refuse. Thanks, sweetheart!

Check out Episode One and Episode Two for the previous celebrations!

So when bestieJoyce returned from her holiday trip with Jo, she asked me to pick a cuisine or pick an area.

I chose my new favorite spot, Publika, and left the restaurant choice to her.

I was dressed rather casually, as I didn’t feel too dressy on a weekday right after work.

Jessicat wears: Off-shoulder top in black by MNG, denim jeans by Forever 21, clasp-belt by Radioactive,

stiletto pumps in houndstooth by Forever 21, vintage web boston bag by Gucci

Coincidentally, we were both very early. Now, that’s something new 😛

We arrived at just about the same time and got a tad lost because we didn’t know where PickNik was located exactly. It’s probably more difficult for patrons new to the Publika establishment (like me) to locate this cafe off-hand.

But after making a quick phone call to PickNik, we landed ourselves there in no time!

They chose this restaurant as Chef Nik Michael Imran is the mastermind behind it.

If that name doesn’t ring a bell, he’s one of the finalists from MasterChef Malaysia Season 1, and has since opened his own outlet!

Ordered some drinks to begin our night!

Soon after, bestieJoyce gave me my birthday present that she bought from her trip to Sydney.

I loved it. My iPhone needed some new clothes anyway.

Oh and you know what’s awesome about this iPhone case?

It doubles as a vanity mirror. Squee! Now, I can always keep my make up and hair in check.

Gosh, I sound like such a girl when I’m excited.

Thanks BFF! xo

We caught up quite a lot and as usual, had a great time with each others company.

Without waiting long, the dishes began arriving our table consecutively. We ordered lots of tapas for sharing!

Here’s what we had for the night:

Deep Fried Squid. Battered squid fried to golden brown served with wasabi mayo.

★★★★☆

Sauteed Mushrooms. Button mushrooms sauteed in butter and herb

★★★★★

Nachos. Tortilla chips served in guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and minced beef tomato salsa

★★★☆☆

It was delicious, with a good variety of toppings/sauces.  But the portion of tortilla chips was ridiculously meagre.

In the end, we were left with lots of toppings with nothing to dip it with.

Soft Shell Crab deep fried with wasabi mayo.

★★★★☆

Papardelle Bolognese. Authentic beefy italian

★★★★☆

This was very flavourful but EXTREMELY SPICY! Caution! Do not be caught unaware.

We took our time to eat everything on the table, over wonderful conversations and shisha (from next door).

Despite always being occupied with our own thing, we never fail to catch up often.

BestieJoyce and I with our lychee shisha!

If it’s anyone that I trust with my life and have serious conversations as well as bantering with, it’s this lovely lady that I’ve known forever right here.

A while later after all the talking, laughing, as well as deep and meaningful conversations, the lovely bunch birthday-surprised me with something! I totally didn’t expect that. Looks like it’s your turn to catch me off-guard, eh guys?

Peanut butter slice: Peanut butter with cream cheese on a biscuit crust

★★★★★

This was heavenly! I chomped it down like a voracious glutton.

BestieJoyce and I with my present and the awesome birthday “cake”!

Make a wish!

Credits go to the boys as well for making my night wonderful.

Thanks Jo, for tonight!

Okay it isn’t fair if I put up pretty photos of us girls but unflattering photos of the boys.

So.. here’s a decent-looking one.

I was a very delighted girl that night.

Picknik was a great choice, which set an evening like this perfectly.

Love you guys… and thank you!

My 24th Birthday | Episode Two: Middle Eastern dinner & shisha at In House, Publika!

July 31, 2013 by thejessicat

Fresh off from Episode 1 of my birthday celebrations, I’m leaving no delay before writing Episode 2.

If you’ve read it, you would know that the first part was spent with my family and workmates. The second part, as you will see, is spent with a small group of buddies doing what we love most.

So what do we love most?

On the night of my birthday, I roped in bestiePam for a night out of food, relaxing and…

SHISHA OF COURSE! wink

On huge, comfy couches, no less! devil

It wasn’t just the both of us tonight, as we gathered a few more people to join as well.

Cue the boys! Drumroll please?

Tonight’s company and I. With all the food, drinks and shisha in tow!

Shot some photos of the beautifully decorated interior. Take a look:

What do you think? Marvellous, isn’t it? Very, very Middle Eastern yet extremely contemporary.yes

I loved the play of lights, perfect usage of wide spaces and their stained glass decor!

Us again chilling all laidback on a breezy Monday night laugh

Apart from the two shisha bongs we had (thanks so much Eshan!) we ordered a great deal of food too.

Ready for them? wink

Iranian Tea

This was Pam’s. I never really favoured the taste of Iranian Tea but she loved it. smiley

Greek Salad. It had a generous helping of tomato, cucumber, capsicum, olives and creamy feta cheese.

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

Chilli Potato. Fried Potato Cubes with Coriander, Tomato and Garlic. Very flavourful and mildly spicy! yes

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Baba Ganoush. Eggplant Dip with tomato, onion and olive oil served with bread.

★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

I wanted to try this non-creamy and coarse version but I didn’t exactly like the

texture of this although I enjoyed its smokiness and flavour!

Opt for the creamy version if you can! It’ll be heaps more delicious. wink

Hummus. It was topped with Sauteed Sliced Lamb.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

This one takes the cake! Perfect consistency and the lamb slices made it all the more tastier! yes

Shish Kebab

★★★★★

Shish Tawook and Lamb Cubes with Saffron Rice

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Shish Tawook

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

The food wouldn’t stop coming. We ate so much and took a much deserved break in between!

We like to hog the camera. That’s an understatement but check out our goofiness and vanity anyway. wink

I think we were tuning out of the conversation when the boys began to immerse deeper in their discussion.

I don’t quite recall what it was. To my best memory, revolved around war, refugees and philosophies, I think.

The boys.cool

Eshan, Pam and I

Konzy and I

Eshan, Pam and Fadzly. Hi!angel

After lots of catching up, chit-chatting and talking about almost everything under the sun, we felt like having a sweet accompaniment to our otherwise savoury dinner. Yup, you can probably see where this is going.

THIS CALLS FOR DESSERT! laughlaugh

Caramel Cream. It wasn’t at all cloyingly sweet but more of a mildy sweet, creamy touch!

I could have plates and plates of it and still yearn for more.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Baklava. This is a traditional middle eastern finger pastry filled with nuts.

★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

My buddies seemed to like it, but I was yet to acquire its sweet, sticky, chewy texture.

After some four hours of hanging out, the night was exactly what I had in mind, to say the least. yes

We had shortlisted a few places to check out but I was glad we chose this one instead.

I was aiming for something casual; a night of relaxation, wonderful conversations, comfy seats, good company, delicious food and bountiful shisha flavour and In House, Publika befitted my night perfectly.

The waiters were relatively friendly and our shisha charcoals were changed regularly too. Entertainment-wise, the television channels projected onto the big screen was good enough. Why need any more entertainment when you’re with good company, eh? smiley

Thanks for a great Monday night out, pals! heart

I know this was supposed to be a birthday post but I guess it’s only natural of me to review the restaurant at the same time as well. Couldn’t help it, sorry! angel

Nevertheless, I hope you guys enjoyed yourself as much as I did! laugh

My 24th Birthday | Episode One: The family & colleagues!

July 30, 2013 by thejessicat

Remember when I said I was going to celebrate my birthday during the entire month of July?

Well I wasn't joking. I actually did.

But this year's celebrations will be slightly different. In fact, very different. I didn't want to throw a huge party and get drop dead drunk with my mates like I do every year. If you've been following me, you'll probably remember my mentioning that I have my personal reasons for why and that I will only announce it two years later from now.

Trust me, you'll be in for a shock as to why, when I finally reveal the reason. Haha!

Anyway, here's the cake I was surprised with the weekend right before my birthday!

Such a beautifully decorated cake, no?

Thanks for the effort and the thoughts, mother dearest kiss

A Chinese-style lunch with mom and dad at Foong Yean Chinese restaurant @ Jalan Tengah, Penang.

★★★★★

It was delightful! I haven't had good Chinese food in a while. This certainly quenches my cravings! yes

Here's what we had. I definitely recommend this humble, no-frills Chinese restaurant for small, family dinners!

Seaweed and egg soup

Stir fried tofu, mushrooms, chicken chunks and prawn

Soy steamed fish

Scallops with brocolli, corn, mushroom and carrots

Aubergine and prawns

Celebrations with la famille didn't stop just yet.

The very next day, mom took me to my favorite Japanese buffet place – TAO Japanese Cuisine in Penang Times Square @ Georgetown!

Mom and I with our plates and plates of food!

I was clearly a happy birthday girl that afternoon.

Gosh those barbequed prawns were mighty yum! yes

Only some of the food we had. We ate like there was no tomorrow LOL.

I'm not embarassed to admit. Hey, cut me some slack. Birthdays only come once a year, don't they? cheeky

When we were done eating, laughing, chatting, taking photos and having fun, a loud birthday song blasted from the speakers. I was a tad confused as to who TAO was playing that birthday song for.

Surely they didn't know it was my birthday; mom and I didn't breathe a word! surprise

TAO not only played me a song but also surprised me with a tiny cake!

It was so thoughtful of them! They didn't have to! heartlaugh

With my tiny surprise cake. Thank you for your graciousness in making me feel special on my birthday. I sure did!

But above all, credit goes to mother for taking me out this weekend. heart

I had a splendid time with her not only celebrating my birthday but also catching up on all things mother-daughter and girly conversations.

Thanks a bunch, mom! heart

Much love.

While my weekend of a be-early/pre-birthday celebration in Penang went perfectly well, I wasn't at all excited nor counting the minutes to my actual birthday on the 1st of July when I was back in Kuala Lumpur.

Ironically, I was busy doing some work when the clock struck midnight Like clockwork, the overwhelming surge of birthday wishes via calls, texts and social media swept me by storm devil

And that's when the excitement began to grow on me.

Waking up the next morning with more than 70 people sending me their birthday greetings!

What a wonderful thing to wake up to. Love you guys, thank you heart

Reached the office and the post man came just in time as I walked through the door.

It was a birthday card full of cats! Thank you so much, you know who you are heart

I spent my birthday in office doing work LOL. The 1st of July 2013 happened to fall on a weekday – a Monday, even more so! surprise

Didn't look like I had much of a choice, but I didn't mind going to work and spending my birthday with my workmates anyway. They're a fun bunch! yes

I had expected the Monday to pass just like any other regular day, but my boss and colleagues took the time to take me out for lunch at Friendscino Restaurant and Bar. devil

Our set lunch came with an awesome spread of salad, fruits and soup.

Some of the food we had

My baked John Dory fish

Some of us. Thanks for the celebratory lunch, dear boss!! heart

Makeshift birthday cake.

We had a warm chocolate brownie to end our session! laugh

Back in office, the colleagues ordered Dominos Pizza for an early dinner.

Oh dear… looks lke it was really an indulgence for me. I had to declare today a Cheat Day!

In fact, the weekend before my birthday, and my actual birthday aren't my only Cheat Days.

The whole of July was practically a Cheat Month LOL! Hey, I didn't mind at all wink Cue the cupcakes! Haha.

So there you have it, Episode One of my birthday celebration.

The last I checked my drafts, there are five parts altogether. Stay tuned for Episode Two! heart

A charcoal-grilled dinner feast in this cosy, city cavern! The Steakhouse KL @ Changkat Bukit Bintang

July 8, 2013 by thejessicat

Changkat Bukit Bintang is an enclave all-too familiar to KL city-dwellers, tourists and food afficionados alike.

Though more commonly recognized and famed as an upbeat bar street where nightlife sees no daylight, Changkat has also carved a name for its exquisite dining outlets and fine choices of international cuisines.

Just last week, I was invited to experience one of the establishments fringing Changkat Bukit Bintang.

To enjoy the evening even further, I brought Konzy along as my date. heart

Where did we dine?

It was none other than at The Steakhouse KL, another premium dining outlet

established by expatriate restauranteur, Mr. Werner Kuhn.

Upon arriving, we were ushered to a table that was reserved specially for us.

It was nice to be seated right in the middle of the restaurant! smiley

When we sat down, the waiter opened a bottle of mineral water and poured it into our glasses, before gently placing a napkin onto our laps very courteously.

Soon after, we were given a menu for our perusal.

He soon returned with a basket of The Steakhouse KL’s own complimentary house bread and butter.

It was very soft, fluffy with a light, herb aftertaste. yes Lovely, but I would have prefered it to be served warm!

After scrutinizing the menu, we let our stomachs and tastebuds lead the way to our selections.

For now, it’s time for a visual tour of The Steakhouse KL’s cosy interior.

The dining lounge area boasted a very rustic atmosphere enhanced by soft, sombre luminaires.

The arches were reminiscent of a traditional European tavern.

Dimly lit, a chandelier hung from above and wall lighting which resembled street lamps flanked each column.

It also had a fair share of traditional bare brick-walls, exposed beams as well as ornaments of

classic, whiskey pin-ups and dark walnut wood surfaces complemented by a similar dark, leather upholstery.

The al-fresco dining area utilized wooden wicker chairs and bare tables for a more casual, outdoor feel.

We got back to our seats after a brief exploration of the interior.

Our meals arrived before we knew it; leaving no room for us to be kept waiting.

Let’s begin with our choice of starters and soups! wink

Scottish Smoked Salmon

This starter came as four strips of neatly rolled-up smoked salmon, served with a side of salad.

I did ponder upon the absence of the cream cheese, as do most Scottish Smoked Salmon dishes. But nevermind that, as the strips of salmon were deliciously thick and fresh with a mild oceanic aftertaste.yes

This dish also gets extra points for its presentation – rolling it up to resemble a flower bud with a caper bud placed right down the middle. Nice touch! smiley

Garnished with chopped parsley and horseradish cream, they double as a dip for an otherwise plain bite of smoked salmon.

Baked Portobello Mushroom

When this dish arrived, I was astonished by how it looked!

Of all the portobello mushrooms I’ve had in all my years of food tasting, food reviewing and dining out in general, they’ve all been very predictable; served as the usual 4 – 5 pieces of tiny, bite-sized portobello mushrooms.

This one, on the other hand, was presented as one, enormous portobello mushroom! yes

This plus-sized Portobello mushroom was topped with spinach and seafood.

The generous amount of lush spinach was sandwiched in between a mix of fresh seafood cooked au gratin. It was cheesy and filled with shrimps, scallops and squid rings.

One bite had me going for more… and more. Each mouthful spelled warm bites of very thick, juicy mushroom with its naturally rich taste and a smooth, creamy texture.

Florida Crab Cake

This dish came as four oval balls served with a saucer of tropical tartar sauce.

enlightenedCaution! It is served very hot.enlightened  Best to let it sit and cool for a short while before consumption.

After letting it cool down a little, we enjoyed that tiny piece of delight.

It was crispy on the outside, yet soft and meaty inside! Crab meat is such love heart

As tasty as this one was, I wouldn’t consider it an actual cake/pastry though, as its make up had little to no similarity to that of a usual cake. Its texture – dusted with crumbs and slightly crunchy to the bite – was more to a resemblance of breaded, deep-fried crab patties/balls.

It’s main composition were, apt to its name, shredded Florida crab meat and bits of vegetable and herbs.

Ready for the next one? smiley

Escargot

As a dish known for its acquired taste and indulgence, these baked snails with garlic herb butter was a sure winner in my books.

The escargots came in a hot plate and were presented still in their shells.

enlightenedCaution: hot!enlightened

I loved its charred and smoky flavor, enhanced by the sharpness of the cheese and the piquancy of the herbs.

I know making snails edible require lots of work. Toxins have to be purged, shells are to be cleaned thoroughly
The Steakhouse KL did a marvellous job! yes Thumbs up.

On to the soups! We ordered all three soups as I wanted to compare and contrast them.

Potato and Seafood Soup

I was slightly dissapointed with this one. Not only did the presentation required a lot of room for improvement, the consistency of the soup was relatively diluted and a tad too powdery.

However, in the taste department, this soup scored extremely well! yes It was fresh, light and mild.

It had an adequate taste of potatos and it was filled with a liberal serving of shrimps, squids and scallops. Almost every spoonful had at least 1-2 seafood treasures in it.

Wild Mushroom Soup

This warm bowl was served with a dash of olive oil and chives.

It lacked the boldness I was expecting in a wild mushroom soup. The courseness and deep, ground-earthy wild mushroom aroma just wasn’t there and it also felt slightly watered-down.

Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t tasteless and neither was it bad.

It just wasn’t as good as other Wild Mushroom Soups – mostly due to the lack in texture and intensity of flavour

With all due respect, I certainly have had better ones.

But I do recommend that you sprinkle some ground black pepper as accompaniment. It worked magic wink

French Onion Soup

This soup, I swear, is unlike, I repeat: UNLIKE the French Onion soups I’ve ever tasted in my life!

Nevermind French Onions, it is unlike ANY OTHER soup. It doesn’t even look like soup, but pot pie sans its crust.

This was the first French Onion soup I’ve had that stuck close to its 18th century French roots, as it was traditionally topped with baked cheese and croutons. yes This “soup”, baked with two different types of Swiss cheese – gruyere and emmental cheese – was thick, decadent and extremely flavourful.

Some may find it too cheesy, too thick and chunky. I may not disagree, but then again,

I’m certainly not going to slam the merits of its fine originality and the uniqueness of the soup in itself!

This bowl contained explosive flavours of sweet and tangy french onion, tantalizing each and everyone of your tastebuds the moment you indulge in so much as a mere spoonful. yes

Mining through it was like a treasure hunt, for I found caramlized onions aplenty hidden at the bottom and as you can see, this soup was laden with croutons as well.

This soup was undeniably filling too, and those tasty croutons soaked in the flavours of this soup? No crouton was left untouched wink

Mains: Grilled Black Cod Fish

It was well-presented, with good colour combination and, despite the flowing juices, boasted a clean arrangement.

The black cod was grilled and lightly charred around its sides and skin.

The fish was very tender and warm inside, bordering it was a yummy, crispy skin.

It was served with sides of baby spuds, mushrooms, baby tomatos, chili flakes (underneath) and garnished with parsley. The creamy wasabi pesto sauce gave this fillet of perfection an extra zest too! yes

Cooked to the most accurate time and temperature,

the flesh of this black cod was tender and gently came apart section by section.

Now… for the gastronomic star of The Steakhouse KL! Prepare to salivate and yearn for…

24oz./750gm T-Bone Steak – cooked medium rare

For all of their Chilled Australian Grain Fed beef, the steaks are served with a side of grilled vegetables, a choice of sauce and a choice of potato.

Sauces: black pepper, red wine, mushroom, BBQ or Béarnaise sauce.

Potatoes: french fries, mashed potato or sauteed potato.

When asked for our preference, we opted for the latter for both choices.

The steak was divine! It was huge slab of Australian T-bone; very tender and juicy, still pinkish towards the middle and almost bloody right in the centre – the perfect embodiment of a medium rare steak. yes

It was firm on the outer surface, with its sides well-browned and the top and bottom part of the steak charred to crisp, dark brown.

As if all I said wasn’t impressive enough, I’d like to up the ante.

The steaks at The Steakhouse KL are all charcoal grilled on the open fire! yes

Though I usually prefer my steaks medium well to well done (not quite the fan of blue, raw cuts and anything close to it), this steak got my date whirring with culinary delight. smiley

Still, I had a quarter of it and loved it nonetheless!

Steak doneness relies heavily on temperature and precise timing and only a good, experienced griller can

execute a steak with the desired level of doneness, without having to poke through the middle to check.

.

Poured Béarnaise sauce all over it. I would suggest against this!

Lightly dipping each chunk into it was fine, but to pour the entire thing? indecision

The buttery emulsion killed it for us as it masked the aroma and flavour of the steak.

When we were finally done with our mains, I was feeling a tad full from all that eating.

Took a short walk around the restaurant to “rest” my stomach, which was hard at work this entire time.

Jessicat standing amidst the dining lounge.

Just lounging at the corner! Perfect place for some tête-à-tête and after-dinner cuddles, or in stark contrast,

even a large but intimate gathering with loved ones on the comfortable, plush leather seats.

They say it’s good to save the best for last. And that’s probably why dessert is put at the end of a course!

We’ve come to the part where all sweet tooths would rejoice in unison and that extra spacious dessert compartment in your stomach would be best be utilized right about now. wink

Andreas Special – A Dream in Chocolate

This fantastic dessert comes in an excellent combination of tastes and sweetness.yes

It consisted of white chocolate ice cream, milky chocolate mousse, chocolate syrup, banana in passion fruit, and pear in red wine.

Carefully arranged layer by layer and presented in a glass, Andreas Special tasts just as good as it looks.

For the non-adventurous, I implore you to try their homemade chocolate ice-cream. It’s the bomb! yes

Classic Italian Tiramisu

Its presentation intrigued me. Not only did it not come presented still in glassware, as do most tiramisus I’ve had, this one came neither in a cube form but in a shape of sphere.

This piquant coffee-flavoured dessert came garnished with strawberries and drizzled with mango sauce, and tasted molto buono! The Italians would be proud yes

Baked Cheesecake

This cheesecake had a nutty biscuit base that tasted like, to my best guess, either walnuts or pecans.

The texture was soft, fluffy not too rich and had just the right amount of crumbliness. On one side, was decorated with strawberries while the other was decorated with blueberries and ice-cream.

I was overjoyed that this cheesecake wasn’t cloyingly sweet nor did it melt in my mouth too quickly.

I like to savour a good cheesecake and this one undeniably, falls into that category wink

That’s a wrap!

Flanked by Restaurant Manager, Henry and F&B Manager, Chris.

With them around, you can be sure you’ll be getting the most of an impeccable service. They are also approachable, friendly, and had been very open and receptive to my suggestions and constructive criticism. yes

Oh and before I forget, don’t take my words too harshly or seriously, as I can be quite the nitty-gritty, food critic and perfectionist when it comes to documenting my culinary experiences.angel

Last but not least, is the man himself behind the famed chain of prestigious restaurants.

Mr. Werner Kuhn and I. Thank you, for having me at your premises that wonderful evening!

Your best bet for a swanky, yet intimate dining session over premium food and whiskey or wine.

I had a brilliant dining experience at The Steakhouse KL that Tuesday night. heart

Shall be back to try their Deluxe Chilled Seafood Mountain, BBQ Short Ribs, Shanks and
Roulades some time soon, as I was not able to stomach anymore that night! laugh

A birthday double-date affair at Silver Spoon, Publika KL!

June 10, 2013 by thejessicat

Having said about a million times before that I haven’t been to Publika ever in my life, when its probably one of the most frequented malls by youths, artsy community and hipsters alike, I have finally been there for the first time!

This marks my second time in Publika and I was spoilt for choice on where to go for bestieJoyce’s belated birthday dinner.

Besties since circa 2007

I probably don’t need to begin telling you who this girl is anymore, especially for those of you who have been long time readers of my blog. Hence, no introduction needed; the caption above says it all smiley

I decided to check out an Italian restaurant, Silver Spoon, for dinner as we have both not dined there before.

Plus, some fancy Italian delights sounds good! wink

As theboyf and I arrived first, we grabbed some drinks before the rest joined us.

His: Paulaner draft beer | Hers: Apple-Orange Juice

More often than not, the four of us always opt for alfresco dining, so a nice table right out front was booked for us. Thus, I took the chance to explore more of Silver Spoon to check out its lovely interior. devil

Just before entering its indoor premises.

To my right, there was a rather elaborate bar, counter and a cake display below.

I liked how neatly they exhibited their bottles of alcoholic beverages and wine glasses.

They seem to complement the chandeliers above, which looked like glasses themselves!

As I walked in further, there was an wall almost entirely dedicated to their bottle display shelf

and huge flat screen TVs adjacent to the dining area.

To my left, there were more dining tables, catered to fit a bigger number of patrons.
To the left of the entrance, were even bigger tables for maximum capacity! Group dining would be a breeze.
enlightenedDid you know that their chandeliers are made of actual silver spoons itself?
Hence the name of the restaurant.
A slightly closer look.

Made my way back out again and took a seat back at my table.

Still, nothing beats the enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere of the alfresco dining! smiley

Maklumlah, aku dan kebanyakan rakan2ku lebih menyukai menjamu selera di luar restoran, berbanding dengan di dalam premisnya. Ini juga telah menjadi kebiasaan kita semua.

We perused the giant menu and kept getting distracted;

we just couldn’t stop catching up and talking to each other!

We all took so long that I wonder if the waiters were beginning to think that we weren’t exactly planning on dining in their restaurant but instead, just planning to sit here freeloading their seats haha! devil

We eventually ended up ordering so much food! Yummm.

Our boys and their beers (like the men they are)

Us girls and our fruit juices.

Let’s get on to the food shall we?

We didn’t have to wait long before the first dish came. The rest all came consecutively – all at one go!

Roasted Pumpkin Soup

★★★★✩

It was made with oven-roasted pumpkin puree blended with vegetable stock, with croutons on top.

I didn’t quite fancy the rather oily,  cream based on top of my soup, although aesthetically, the design was pretty creative, forming a beautiful presentation for a soup dish. yes

It tasted wonderful, made with just the right consistency of a perfect pumpkin soup!

Caesar Salad

★★★★★

This is one unique Caesar Salad, that’s for sure! Instead of the regular ingredients like chicken strips and regular hardboiled eggs. tandoori chicken chunks and hardboiled quail eggs were used. yes Delicious!

Apart from that interesting twist, it came, typically, with baby romaine lettuce, caesar dressing, croutons and parmesan cheese.

Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms

★★★★✩

These were fantastic! The mushrooms were so soft and juicy, bursting with even more goodness of herbed mushrooms stuffed inside. Very flavourful, though I was expecting more stuffings than just mushroom inside.

Either minced meat, bacon bits, sauteed onions or capsicums would be a nice addition to the stuffings inside the mushroom caps. But I guess this works as well smiley

Norweigian Salmon Fillet

★★★★★

The risotto was made with squid ink, hence the blackened colour.

I loved how thick the flesh of the salmon was, and it was grilled to perfection too. Soft on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside. The spinach was a nice touch to balance the meal.

Chicken Tandoori Pizza

★★★★★

This thin-crust pizza was very well made and crunchy with each bite!

The mint sauce yoghurt goes very well when paired with the tandoori chicken – pretty sure the Indians would approve! It also had mayo underneath, tomatoes and onion rings, decorated sparsely with mint leaves.

Braised Lamb Shank

★★★★★

I couldn’t find a single flaw in this dish. It tasted too good, tender and tasty, exceeding my expectations!

It is rather balanced a meal with a generous helping of vegetable sides too.

The Fantastic Four feeling all burped out (a sign of satisfaction!) and well-fed. yes

Hi! It’s us again.

I then quietly excused myself and whispered to the waiter of how I would like the grand entrance of her birthday cake slice to be like. They did an excellent job! Not only a ‘Happy Birthday’ song was played, but the staff were singing the song as well.

From their array of cakes, I chose their Molten Lava chocolate cake.

Molten Lava Chocolate Cake.

★★★★★

(I would give more stars if I could. Actually, I will)

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Five stars from EACH of us. You deserve it, little one! heart
