The Sunday Times XXXIV: Sights, sounds, thoughts, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

August 4, 2013 by thejessicat

Hi lovelies! How was your weekend?

Mine was incredible, as you shall see in a bit!

But hey, let’s start from the beginning first, shall we?

First of all, if you’re reading this, you’ll probably realize that you are now looking at the brand new facelift of my blog. Yup, it was relaunched last week during my birthday month but we’re only at Phase One for now!

Credits go to my awesome sponsor, Haze Long of Virtual Misfits!

Will blog  more about this and share our journey towards the launch.

Gymtimes as usual

Shot before circuit training Tuesdays.

My usual post-workout meals (yeah I was told that I eat rabbit food LOL)

Oh and due to popular request, I remember I promised you peeps to make a gallery of all the healthy and clean meals that I often make once the new blog is up.

So I guess its time to fulfill that promise, eh? 🙂 Will be working on that soon!

Weekday midnight runs and chocolate/coffee times with my girls at Mukha Cafe, TTDI.

Ramadan month traffic jams! It took me more than an hour to get to 1 Utama via the LDP highway.

I forsee an equally, if not worse, traffic congestion on our roadtrip to Penang

this weekend due to the festive season of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

For those in the know, the past few weeks had been pretty arduous for me. It’s complicated.

In a nutshell, I was distraught and drained, both emotionally and mentally, due to a personal dilemma that left me especially confused, frustrated and troubled. For those following me on Twitter, sorry for the torrent of emotional tweets! 🙁

It didn’t help that I had so much work, blog notifications and so many emails to reply.

As it was already the beginning of the weekend, I decided to screw it all and not open any one of them.

It can wait. I need my break!

Which was precisely why I packed my bags and left for my favorite island up north – Penang.

Ergo, my weekend was a perfect respite from the exasperating times and everything I’ve been going through in the city. I needed that break and it helped me to re-evaluate life with a calmer mind.

And for that I thank you for everything, Marc.

Checking out the awesome view of the beach from the 6th floor!

Aug 2, 2013 | Hello from #Penang! ❤ by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Went to Flamingo Hotel’s poolside for an early morning swim.

Fancy yourself swimming to this mesmerizing view:

I know bliss when I see one 🙂

Swimming and chilling in the warm, bubbling jacuzzi over fantastic conversations on a weekend.  I could get used to that 😉

Candid shot on the deckchair while I was just about to take a dip in the pool

After swimming, Marc and I headed for some extreme sports. Yup, it’s time to bust out the adrenalin!

As terrified as I was of jet-skiing (no more terrified than I am of roller coasters!), I absolutely love the high-speed, plunging depths of either skyfalls or underwater madness as well as experiencing death-defying moments.

It’s an exhilarating rush, you know?

Except from the fact that I screamed and held my breath 50% of the time, I loved it.

A second time jet-skiing ever, it was no doubt, the ride of my life.

Having the luxury of owning a car, I realized that I have overlooked my surroundings and all the buzz around Penang – especially in Georgetown! It’s relatively easy to jump into your car and look at nothing but your destination.

But as Marc rented a scooter to get us around town easily, I had the wonderful chance of exposing myself to what I would deem the ‘real’ Penang.

Aug 3, 2013 | Scootering ’round #Georgetown, #Penang this #afternoon! Yeaaaaa boi. by imthejessicat on Keek.com

The strong wind blowing against my face, the weathered-walls of British architecture, the scorching rays warming me up (a stark contrast to the comfort of my air-conditioned car), the loud chattering of age-old men reminiscing their youth, watching a close-up of locals bargaining on the street markets and more. It was indeed all new to me.

Georgetown was a hive of energy and true camaraderie, between locals and tourists alike!

By one of the many comical trivia.

Since Georgetown was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Site status, lots of interesting metal rod caricatures had been erected around town, bringing life to history via art.

I love how humour is injected in educating tourists (and locals!) on Penang’s rich history, community stories and culture.

We visited the Camera Museum along Lebuh Muntri.

It was a wonderful gallery of all vintage cameras, photography information, a store of all things camera-related and more Check out this adorable handmade crochet Instagram pouch!

Blog feature soon.

Look du jour.

Mythical creatures and religious icons dot the spacious compound of this 200-year old sacred enclave. Unafraid of the myriad of chimeras and chinthes guarding the temple grounds, here we are at the only Burmese Buddhist temple in Penang!

Dhammikarama Burmese Temple.

By the feet of the Reclining Buddha/Sleeping Buddha

at Wat Chayamangkalaram, a popular Thai Buddhist Temple.

We also headed to Air Hitam, where the Kek Lok Si a.k.a Goddess of Mercy Temple was housed atop a hill.

Aug 6, 2013 | Bringing a foreign buddy around Kek Lok Si temple, #Penang! #Malaysia #tourist by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Wishing ribbons hanging atop a Wish Tree in Kek Lok Si Temple.

Caught sight of an adorable statue of a pig.

I tried to replicate its expression – rather successfully, no?

Sunset on the horizon of Batu Ferringhi beach.

Had dinner at the beautifully lit Straits Quay by nightfall.

There’s so much more that we saw and so many places we headed to, but I’ll leave that for a full blog feature, aight?

Admittedly, I’ve never experienced Penang Island the way I just did.

I was born and bred on this very soil; practically knowing every nook and cranny this island has to offer. Such often breeds a sense of neglect and disregard after a couple of decades, eventually being unappreciative of Penang’s heritage and splendours.

After all, familiarity does breed contempt.

But this weekend, on the contrary, was highly opposed  from “going home”. This weekend, it was as though I had traversed to a different island; an island I embraced with open arms and a fresh panorama from my mind’s eye.

It was an actual holiday, for once.

So proud to be an island girl!

You’ll never know life like the way you know the ocean waves of home.

I left Penang with a heavy heart and twice the knowledge of my beloved island.

It is only when you show another around that you begin to see this little notion called ‘home’ from a completely different perspective. One of a traveller’s; armed with a ravenous thirst of the unknown and starving for the thrills of adventure.

The Sunday Times XXXIII: Sights, sounds, thoughts, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

July 28, 2013 by thejessicat

Hi loves! Gosh, the past seven days has been such a busy week for me.

I just realized that it's been exactly a week since I've last blogged. Sorry for the absence!

Anyway, I've just got home from a long weekend of work and holiday in Ipoh.

Yeah it's a public holiday again, one of the best things about living in Malaysia, eh? Public holidays come in abundance haha! This time, it's Nuzul Al-Quran, a religious occasion commemorated by Muslims.

Yes, babyChivas, mommy's home.

Have you been a good boy while I was gone? smiley

So… let's get on with what made my week this time round. cool

Was requested to record a video for someone special for her birthday.

I hope you're not reading this because it'll spoil the surprise, I suppose LOL cheeky

Did my charity work for the week. This time, it's for Pathway 2 Society.

A non-profit effort to reintegrate ex-offenders/ex-convicts/ex-juveniles

into society by giving them a second chance at life. Check them out! yes

Had a pretty refreshing dip by the poolside.

Random photo on the way for my training at gym!

Those guns are ready to cry!

Another thing that made my week were smoothies.

Ahhhh yes, fruit and veggie smoothies! Can't live without them yes

This week's post-workout meals:

Seven nut muesli with green apples, milk and cinnamon

Organic cellentani with brocolli, garbanzo beans, egg white scramble and flax.

Wholewheat bread with peanut butter, almonds and garbanzo beans!

Organic wholewheat fusili tossed with zucchini, olive oil, carrots and flax.

Oven-baked salmon with diced potatoes, capsicums, egg-white scramble and garden peas

Stir-fried carrots, spinach, aubergine and chicken chunks

Peruvie Peruvian Grilled Chicken @ TTDI

★★★★★

Loved it. It gave me a good bang for my buck. Delicious and cheap!

Full blog feature soon.

My furkid Chivas always steals my cushion. Perhaps I should get him an actual pet bed of his own?

But then again, he sleeps and lounges about practically EVERYWHERE. surprise

Aku rasa, usahlah membelikannya tempat istirahat sendiri dah.

Oh since my cat seems to be very popular now, I figured you might wanna watch his antics for yourself

Weekends are best for your trusty ol' kicks, no?

I love my worn-down sneakers, the Chuck Taylor Converse All Star high tops.

Weekend outfit of the day with granny. heart

I wish I was a stoic as she is. Her pokerface sends me chills down my spine.

Restoran Fai Kee @ Ipoh

★★★★☆

We had brunch here. A very popular place among the locals for noodles of pork, fish and drunken prawn.

I was overjoyed when I found my favorite Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) machine

tucked away in an arcade in Ipoh Parade called 'Molly Fantasy'.

12 rounds back-to-back came as no surprise. I was sweating buckets and panting rather audibly

up till a point where the people around me probably thought I was down with an incurable disease. Erk. blush

The Limestone's Fine Dining Restaurant @ Regal Lodge Hotel

★★☆☆☆

Saturday lunchdate. The place was nothing to shout about. And… really? Fine Dining? Not to me.

Full blog feature soon!

Random video after returning home from a long day.

Jul 25, 2013 | Nighty night!! ❤ by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Packed my gear and dressed professionally the next day for a heavy responsibility of shooting a wedding.

While the thought of holy matrimony has always been the last thing on my mind for the longest time, undertaking this task of shooting a wedding and making sure every memorable moment is recorded made me realize a few things that I've probably never thought of.

Prior to this, I've never really seen weddings in this light nor have I envisioned how beautiful a wedding can be.

Biar benar, begitu indah menyaksikan akad nikah mereka sehingga hampir menitis air mata! crying

Stole a quick selfie in the bridal chamber before I began the shoot

at Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites, Ipoh

With the stunning couple. Congratulations, Soon and Shirly! laugh

The very look on the bride and groom's faces, the merriment that filled the wedding reception, the congregration of old friends and long-lost family members coming together to celebrate a wonderful union, the expressions of both young and old, the nostalgia rising from speeches and presentations, the picture-perfect wedding photographs, the grand ballroom, the decorations, the wedding cake… and the whole celebratory shebang. heart

Wow. Guess I've never looked at it this way before.

One day, just.. maybe someday, I'll be a beautiful, blushing bride walking down the aisle in my gorgeous white gown, complete with a delicate veil and bridal train cascading behind me.

But it all seems so far away as we speak.

I've not even found my Mr. Right yet (No, I'm not looking for the time being!). Who will I end up spending the rest of my life with? Who will I end up growing old with? Could it be you? I'll never know. blush

Walaupun aku tidak mencari pasangan buat masa ini, tidak salah jikalau aku bicara bahawa aku masih menunggu jodoh, kan?

On another serious note, I've been busy with very important and legal papers this week.

Many were quick to assume when I posted it on my Facebook and Instagram but no, it's not a marriage registration.

Some of you have already accurately guessed but I'll only officially reveal and blog all about it when the time is right.

The end of the long weekend is over and so are the parties.

The long weekend was a perfect respite from the city. But for now, work beckons once again.

WIll be back in office tomorrow!  Have a great seven days ahead, you. cool

Much love,

kissJessicat

Raise your pints to Arthur Guinness as we kick off the month-long celebration of Arthursday music parties!

September 18, 2012 by thejessicat

Let's celebrate the legacy of Arthur once again… all month long!

GUINNESS Arthur's Day 2012,  themed 'A Celebration Made of More', makes it comeback for Guinness fans and music lovers nationwide.

I was glad to be part of it too!

Inspired by Arthur Guinness' bold legacies, this year's series of month-long Guinness parties pays tribute to the founder of Guinness, a man who dared to make bold choices in his time.

What exactly did he do, you wonder?

Well, while other brewers boiled their barley back in the day, Arthur Guinness made the bold decision to roast his, creating a brew with more flavour, more taste and more look, which we now fondly know as the iconic black brew – Guinness.

Uh-huh! That's the one right there

I was invited to usher in the Arthur's Day series of month-long parties at the official launch party.

Hey, ho… let's go! :D:D

Made my way to the party!

It was held at Studio Lounge @ Tropicana City Mall

Yup, there you have it… the remarkable man made of more!

Hello there, Arthur Guinness

((STYLESHOT OF THE DAY))

Jessicat wears : Tribal motif dress by Miss Selfridge | Hippie plait headband by Diva |

Brass Guitar Pick necklace by Hard Rock | Audrey Hepburn tote bag from a bazaar in Singapore |

Cream diamante wedges by Vincci + |

MC Serena C hyping up the party and giving us a warm welcome!

The party saw a delightful spread of a buffet dinner for all its guests.

I helped myself to their rendang chicken, satay, carved beef and so much more

Enjoying dinner with some friends!

The many faces of Jessicat X Guinness

3..2..1….

And the party kicks off with a bang!

Quite literally, as confetti exploded everywhere!

The lounge was filled with shimmery streaks and glitter :D

Local pop-rock band, Underheadlights, were amongst the band performing for us

A few local bands & artists vying for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity happening at the end of the month!

They are Underheadlights, Car Crash Hearts, Once Upon a Time There Was a Sausage Named Bob, Rhythm Nation, SonaOne and Busco.

Yup, they will be battling it out for a chance to be the opening act for Creed at the Arthur's Day concert in Indonesia!

All the best! May the best band win

Need another pint for good luck? :D

No party is complete without its photographic evidence, yes?

Well… here they are!

Soon after, theboyfie and I decided to check out the much-talked about Arthur's Lounge.

It looks like a huge container/caravan thingy from a  distance.

Let's enter and find out….

Guinness draught stations were all lined up for guests to learn how to make their own pints!

One of the Guinness boys taught me how

I've always wondered how they made a pint so smooth, frothy and foamy!

Finally, my question was answered as I was taught how to make my own pint of Guinness.

Success! My very own frothy Guinness and I

Theboyfie had a hands-on experience too!

Both our perfectly made pints of Guinness!

Thanks Guinness, for imparting the art of making one of your draughts

Here's to a successful series of celebrations throughout the whole September.

To Arthur! :D

Speaking of which, my Sunday afternoon (Malaysia Day) was spent at Sid's Pub @ TTDI.

Headed there to attend one of the series of Arthur's Day month-long parties! :D

((STYLESHOT OF THE DAY))

Jessicat wears : Black Camisole by GUESS | Cream High-Waisted Shorts by PDI |

Accessories by Hard Rock | Hermes inspired skinny belt |

Raspberry Nova Tote Bag by Burberry | Black Strappy Wedges by Vincci

There was so much going on, Guinness revellers buzzing all over the pub vicinity :D

Local bands served as our entertainment for the afternoon as well.

Just as I was entering Sid's Pub

Warm & cosy pub setting. Perfect for an afternoon of mingling over deep dark Guinness

Love their bar! I bet with the amount of alcohol stash they have, it could feed all alcoholics for a year!

The bartenders were such a friendly bunch

Pretty Guinness usherettes were present too

Decided to have lunch there too soon after.

We had an assortment of Chicken, Tuna & Cheese double-stacked sandwiches, Chicken & Pork Hotdogs

They were pretty damn good! :D

Thanks for the photo, Wilson!

Really? Allow me to have another sip then

Good food & good company!

Serena & I enjoying our pints!

The more the merrier!

A perfect frothy pint of your favorite black brew for a perfect sunny afternoon

Wanna have just as much fun as I did? Don't miss the next ones then

There are 5 more Arthur's Day music parties being held :

Dirty Nelly's @ KL Live : 21st September 2012

Backyard Pub @ Sri Hartamas : 27th September 2012

Beer Factory @ Sunway Giza : 28th September 2012

SOULed OUT @ Sri Hartamas : 28th September 2012

Laundry @ The Curve : 28th September 2012

You can always make your way down to any of those outlets to enjoy pints of Guinness at special discounts all throughout this month! :D:D

Thank you Guinness for a fun Sunday afternoon!

Perhaps it was love after all *winks* ;);)

The Sunday Times IV : Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

September 16, 2012 by thejessicat

Happy Sunday lovelies!

My past seven days were likened to a happy breeze kicking up colourful leaves on an Autumn evening

I was back in form. Cheerful &  brimming with smiles, compared to last week's dreadful crawl of a week

Out and about on a sunny afternoon!

Oh and to my fellow Malaysian people, HAPPY MALAYSIA DAY!

Yup, for you non-Malaysian readers, today is Malaysia's birthday and we are 49 years old.

———-TRIVIA ———

Malaysia Day is NOT to be confused with our National/Independence Day,

which was celebrated some two weeks ago on the 31st August.

Today, 49 years ago, the formation of four independent nations :

Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak & Singapore gave rise to a new nation….

and that new nation was Malaysia.

16th September 1963 was the very day we became a country of our own!

HAPPY 49TH BIRTHDAY TO MY BELOVED COUNTRY MALAYSIA

——————————–

Anyway, what made my week this time round?

We'll see :

Headed to The Pool KL in Ampang for a food review of their Japanese restaurant, Kyoto Lab

Being a Japanese food enthusiast, the excellent quality, taste & choice of meals exceeded my expectations!

Full blogpost coming soon!

Slowly regained my appetite again and indulged in some comfort food

Traditional American Pancake Stack by Paddington's House of Pancakes @ The Curve

For some reason, those pancakes that I had above tasted like cardboard & had a rubbery texture.

What happened to the soft, fluffy, melt-in-your mouth pancakes I always used to have?  This makes the avid pancake-fan in me, sad :/

Had some retail therapy to make me happy.

Hey, who doesn't love pretty things in pretty boxes? :D:D

Char Tang Hoon in SS2 Pasar Malam (night market)

Only RM3.50 and was superb!

Dinnertimes with the magician boys Andrew & JB :D

We hung out at Delicious @ Mid Valley Megamall and I'd fully recommend the…..

Pumpkin Soup with chopped almonds!

It's a new item in the menu. It was flavourful, not too creamy & just the right texture

Party time at NSFW presents : 12th Planet all the way from Los Angeles, USA!

I jumped right onto the podium (and made bestie Pam join me up there!) and I shooked 12th Planet's hand!

Thanks for the photo Pam xx

The heavy dubstep-DnB artist shot our faces to full colour once he took control of the party

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HOLr0jqnCI&feature=player_detailpage

Song of the week! I love Zedd, 'nuff said

This was the song that 12th Planet boomed and catapulted me to rave on the podium!

Just a lil SELCA again

Headed out for dinner with my suede grey fedora & a buttoned American flag blouse!

Made some dinner. Inspired by popular Arabic dish, Shakshouka

Baked eggs, tomatoes, onions, black pepper and cumin!

Got a little SELCA crazy whilst stuck in a jam. How narcissistic, I know

Found something extremely relevant whilst I was caught on the LDP traffic jam

Why that highway is congested even at 3PM is beyond me. But that's something to think about, no? :P

Spent my entire Saturday with theboyfie in Borders-Starbucks, The Curve.

He was reading the new book he bought, The Great Mortality by John Kelly,

while I was working away on some of my blogging & photo editing.

Attended another one of the Arthur's Day celebrations in Sid's Pub @ TTDI today

Gee, I love the month-long celebrations! So much merriment

To Arthur!

Dinner at TGI Friday's @ Sunway Pyramid!

For the non-health conscious, I'd recommend the Deep Fried Mac & Cheese balls

Should you prefer a healthier meal, I'd recommend the Stuffed Mushrooms with ground beef!

It's served with bruschetta toppings and pretty damn delicious too

Dennis & I :) Just came back from Youth Jam, held in Sunway Pyramid!

I was the judge for the blogging competition by Youth Jam-SONY's National Blogger Festival

So happy to be able to lend my support to the movement and youth empowerment

And that wraps up my seven days this time round.

It was a pretty average week, with some good news (still a secret at the moment!) to share very soon!

Just a little secret (well, not so secret anymore!) I'm pursuing magic & aim to learn a new language.

A while back, I promised a certain French magician that when I go to Paris one day, I'm going to impress him with my magic performance and a particular mentalism/illusion trick. And I will.

That being said, have an awesome seven days ahead dearies.

And to my Malaysian readers, enjoy tomorrow's public holiday thanks to Malaysia Day! :D:D

Much love,

Jessicat
