The Sunday Times XXX: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

July 7, 2013 by thejessicat

This week marks my first week as a 24 year old! Boy, oh boy, do I feel old.

Exactly a decade ago, to sum it up, I was an acne-ridden, hip-hop lovin' streetkid, a high school nerd and an angsty teenager still trying to find herself.

Not that I'm any much closer to finding myself just yet anyway. *shrugs* The journey of self-discovery, to me, is always a perpetual one.

Guess I'll never ever discover who I really am yet. Well that keeps things interesting, doesn't it?

The month of July will be a month full of birthday celebrations for me.

Full blog post on my birthday celebrations will be up at the end of this month!

Oh and, to publicly answer the one question I've been getting over and over again this year –

Why are you not throwing a big birthday party like all your previous years, Jess? blush

I have my personal reasons for this. I guess I can only reveal the answer two years later – no, I'm not joking. It's a legit reason. So far, only a small circle of family and close friends know why, and I plan to keep it that way.wink

Ianya akan disimpan sebagai rahsia buat masa ini!

Posted my last video as a 23 year old, just before I turned 24:

Jun 30, 2013 | Goodbye dear 23 year old girl! Looking forward to a brand new year for me! 😀 by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Anyway, let's get on with the weekly wrap-up, shall we? smiley

I went hiking up my usual BJ Hill @ Bukit Jambul

Next stop – Penang Hill!

Couldn't resist taking this photo of buddyAdrian and a dog in the woods.

He's such a dog whisperer – I don't even! surprise Dogs are really a man's best friend.

'

Being back in Penang drove me to Milkshake Factory @ Gurney Plaza again.

No thanks to bestieVince as I was trying to resist it! angry *dagger stares* I gave in, eventually.

Mungkin ko nih nak berat badanku bertambah? Entahlah.

Okay, fine. You know I love it, don't you? Thanks for the awesome milkshake devil xo

Back in KL, I was booked for a food review session at The Steakhouse KL @ Changkat Bukit Bintang.

Jul 2, 2013 | At The Steakhouse KL about to taste their amazing dinner menu. Can't wait to share the best of what they have! by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Thank you, Mr. Werner Kuhn and team for having me at your luxurious restaurant tonight.

Full blog feature up next!

Silly convex mirror times with the buddies heart Photobomb level: honking car LOLOL

We had a small cosy dinner gathering at In-House @ Publika

More of what happened and a short feature in another post!

Okay time for some kittyphotos of the week. wink Mew!

Plotting his diabolical plan to take over the world.

"I hate mommy's cuddles."

"On second thought, maybe it's not that bad after all."

"But what did I do wrong this time, mommy? I swear it wasn't me!"

"I haz no legs. I'm just a black furry blob with a tail."

Okay that's all for now LOL.

Mid-week, I checked out Tony Roma's Steakhouse Restaurant to taste their "Tony's World Famous Ribs."

Combo of their Bountiful Beef Ribs and Grilled Salmon with a serving of fresh vegetables.

Rating: ★★★★★

The taste of rich beef complemented with Tony Roma's own original barbeque sauce did the trick.

The  meat was just right too. It was tender and fell off the bone with the merest, gentle slice of my knife.

I would say I prefer these ribs to the ones served at TGI Friday's. Then again, it is a close fight though.

The salmon was nothing short of perfection too.

With a hint of dill and lemon enhanced by the open fire grill, this one's a winner.

Their only fallback is probably the house bread that came as a starter.

It tasted fine, but the texture was slightly on the chewy side.

On Saturday my fave partycrew and I were on our way to somewhere… secret.

Yup, it's the annual Carlsberg's 'Where's the Party?'

The location isn't so secret anymore by now; it was held in MAEPS @ Serdang.

Full blog feature up soon. A very honest account. Wait for it.indecision

We had our own little afterparty/late dinner at The Castle Restaurant, KL

Rating: ★★★☆☆

It served a standard fare of Middle Eastern food; though I must recommend the Spicy Shish Tawook and the Lamb Mandy. The latter was served with long-grain kabssa rice. Shisha there was fine with an equally good variety of flavours. yes

The Chicken Kebab though, left a little to be desired. It was too bland and the texture was somehow a little soluble and for some reason, disintergrated too quickly. It was oddly, really wet with hardly any meat that I could chew on. The service was a little slow, but the waiters were amazingly friendly.

After a late night, I don't know how I managed to drag myself out of bed the next morning

for my session with the Bosu. It was akin to dragging a full-grown water buffalo out of a mudhole. indecision

Thursday night's TRX + back and bicep day was fine. Until the next morning, that is.

Good lord. I could hardly raise my arm to switch on the lights in the bathroom as I woke up.

Chilling with my favorite barbell after an intense leg day workout.

And of course, the usual eats. My post workout-meals:

Wheat bran, cornflakes and blueberries in milk!

Chicken breast slices, carrots, spinach,

aubergine and onions stir-fried with olive oil and chia seeds.

Snacking on a fruit platter of oranges, green apples, red grapes and organic pumpkin kernels.

Eggs – in three different variants.

Which do you prefer? Hardboiled, scrambled or as a omelette? wink

Clean eating is the way to go! Have you had your greens today? wink

Before I knew it, Sunday came knocking on my door! cool

Pardon me, as I groove to some 70's disco music.

I know, how very unbecoming. But sometimes, the weekend does this to me.

Jul 7, 2013 | Nothing like a #weekend fix of #70s #music. Anyone remembers KC and the Sunshine Band? That's the way, baby 😉 by imthejessicat on Keek.com

Parked myself at Milk and Butter @ Bangsar and hung out with my boy Chivas before the girls arrived.

When they did, we all had an amazing afternoon over equally amazing food heart

Can't wait to review this restaurant – blog feature up soon!

Sunday evenings were spent in the sun curling up with my favorite book by the poolside.

You can see how worn out the novel looks already! Sorry for the candid shot, I wasn't ready for the photo.

At night, was Bob and Gouya's pool party!

It was fun skewering the kebabs, chicken thighs, onions, tomatoes, capsicums and more.

Helped the boys out in preparing their Middle Eastern food and firing the grill!

I had a great weekend but I was a tad upset about not being able to watch Tydi back in Penang tonight.

He's performing as we speak! frown Right now, at QEII On the Sea, Church Street Pier, Penang in celebration with the Georgetown World Heritage Site Celebration.

What's the significance of the day, you ask?

Tomorrow marks the 5th anniversary of Georgetown being enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Penang, my love, you truly deserve it. heart

Tomorrow will also be a Public Holiday in Penang too. Enjoy your day off, fellow Penangites!

What a fantastic start of a new week no? By sleeping in and spending an extra day of leisure.

Remind me why I moved away to the city, Kuala Lumpur, again? frown Hahaha.

Much love,

kissJessicat

It’s 84 inches wide and long, baby. Introducing the world’s first 84-inch Ultra HD 3D TV brought to you by LG!

June 17, 2013 by thejessicat

Remember that epic TV that I wrote about some time last week?

Well I finally got to see it with my very own eyes!

The 84 inch LG Ultra HD 3D TV and I

No, I am not wearing sunglasses indoors, much less in a dark room! You shall see what it is shortly! wink

So my Saturday morning was spent at the LG Fiesta blogger party.

It was held at the Piazza @ The Curve

Stole this picture from LG's Facebook page LOL.

 Can you spot me? Hahahaha!

Upon arrival, I saw many colourful, numbered stickers!

I was allocated to Group 6 – and here are my matching 3D glasses cool

Giant illustration of LG's latest 84 inch Ultra UD 3D TV.

There was also a DJ entertaining us at the party!

The huge DJ deck was for the DJ competition which took place later that afternoon.

The party was hustling and bustling with people!

With some friends Kelly and Isaac smiley

Amidst all the TV talk, there was another product by LG which caught my fancy.

It was a little handheld machine called the LG Pocket Photo; a smart mobile printer which instantly prints out photographs for keepsake! yes

All I had to do was to take a photo on a smartphone (with the Pocket Photo app installed)

and transfer it over by tapping it on the Pocket Photo machine.

In less than three seconds, the LG Pocket Photo machine begins printing out my photo.

And it's mine for keeps! In this era, I do appreciate a hard copy of a photographs every once in a while.

It's like a novelty to me, ya know? angel Jarang sungguh dapatkan gambar sebenar yang bukan digital!

I went back into the dark room where the 84 inch Ultra HD 3D TV was.

Something was missing! Since it was set to 3D mode, I noticed that I was seeing things differently.

It can't be my eyesight, can it? surprise Looks like this calls for…

LG's Cinema 3D Glasses! Cute as a button, no?

I found it very stylish, ultra-light and colourful! cool

So that explains my double-vision before putting LG's Cinema 3D Glasses on.

Erica and I having fun with our 3D glasses. devil

This toddler wasn't spared from the fun of 3D glasses!

Bro and I had our fair share of fooling around with our 3D glasses too.

Of course, to watch your shows/movies, you can always opt for the normal mode instead of the 3D mode.

But if you do happen to select the latter…

You know you need these to bolt yourself straight into the wondrous world

of three-dimensional ultra high definition wonder! cool

After putting my 3D glasses on, the vision was breathtaking! yes

Much like a cinematic experience without going to the cinemas.

We were then given an introduction to this prized television and

enlightened by a product knowledge briefing session.

During the sharing session, we were also told to put on our comfy, battery-free, lightweight Cinema 3D Glasses to watch an animated movie while he elaborated further on the total immersion brilliance and aspects of this Ultra High Definition 3D mode that we were watching on.

I had no problems putting them on excitedly! laugh

If you were wondering from the beginning, yes, I wore this tee on purpose today cool

Anyway, to save you from reading a truckload of text (and to save me from writing it for you),

you can watch the video below and be amazed by LG's 84 inch Ultra HD 3D TV for yourself!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNNlULLWEbw

Later that morning, we were asked to participate in a series of very interesting games.

A five-second clip was played from 10 different movies which we had to identify. Any movie buffs here?

The first clip that was played.

Forgive my ignorance but WHAT MOVIE IS THIS??? surprisesurprisesurprise I never found out.

The fourth clip that was played. Ahhhhh.. dear ol' Captain Von Trapp and his seven children.

It's The Sound of Music, without a shadow of a doubt wink

Guessing games… brace yourselves!

We got this right. THIS. IS. SPARTA! 300! devildevil

Oh no. What movie is this? I think it had Leonardo DiCaprio in it.

Or was it Brad Pitt? I don't recall!

My team mate Kifly and I were racking our brains for this game!

I think we only got about four correct answers out of the ten LOL.

For the next game…

Can you guess what we had to do?

Obvious enough?

What about this?

Yup… It's PSY's Gangnam Style!

I cannot believe I danced to this song to an audience of approximately 60-70 people. surprise

Terkejutnye aku, apabila disuruh menari lagu ini di depan para penonton. Ala.. ramainye! Memalukanlah!

Admittedly, although I often break into PSY's addictive dance routines (yes, 'Gentleman' included) at the most random places like malls and cafes, I never thought I had to do this deliberately on command.

Oh I have a video footage of our dance as well. Might just upload it f I am in a good mood cheekycheeky

My team! For our 'Gangnam Style' dance, we got an 8-8-9-8 from the judges LOL

Yay? cheeky Good job team.

The event ended at noon and the winning team was announced.

Although we didn't win anything, I had the time of my life that morning! devil It has been quite a while since the last time I attended a blogger gathering which was power-packed with fun and games.

Undeniably,  I absolutely love the 84 inch Ultra HD 3D TV so much! heart

Don't burst my bubble, but I'm already envisioning myself lying on the couch with my loved ones eating popcorn and watching movies from this epic television at the comfort of my own home. cheeky

Thank you, LG for a fun morning at your Fiesta party!

Samsung Galaxy S4 will be launched VERY SOON! Are you ready 4 the next Galaxy?

April 22, 2013 by thejessicat

I don't recall how excited everyone can get over a smartphone.

The very moment I posted about being at the Samsung Galaxy S4's teaser event at The Curve, my phone was ringing off the hook!

Geez, guys! I know you're excited, but hold your horses, will you? Haha! devil

I've got neverending questions like, "When will it be launched?", "Is this phone good?", "How much will it be?", "Will there be a plan/telco package for it?", "Where will it be launched?", "Exact location and map of the launch please?", "Do you recommend this phone?", "What are the new features of this phone?" and the list goes on. smiley

But don't worry, you guys were not the only ones anticipating the Samsung Galaxy S4

The crowd began to build up just to watch the sporadic mini orchestral peformance last Friday

Bumped into buddySam! smiley

Four amazing vocalists (I could hear the alto, soprano and vocal sound effects being sung in harmony!) were belting out latest chart-topping hits; with a twist.

What twist? Well, I'll let you judge for yourself… whether or not you recognize this tune. cool

Galaxy S4 is coming! So get ready for your mind to be blown!

Yup, it's Lady Gaga – Edge of Glory devil

Not to forget the amazing string quartet as well.

The violinists and cello player  were so melodiously in sync!

Everyone was buzzing about to take photos of them and to

catch a glimpse of what was going on in the crowd

It was a hive of activity at the open space of The Curve that evening

Everyone was so amused when they heard the choir-orchestra band sing and play songs that they recognize but incorporating Galaxy S4 into the lyrics.

Rather clever, I reckon! Quite a jingle, they've achieved.yes  That song has been stuck in my head all weekend LOL

I also went home with a whole bunch of colourful balloons! devil

For those of you who were asking me anxiously about the phone, check out the official Samsung Galaxy S4 introduction video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2LHv1FPd1Ec

Such an amazing video highlighting the key features of the Samsung S4

Such an amazing smartphone, right? It's so revolutionary and magnificent. I'm almost sold! surprise

Looking at my clammy iPhone 4S, I can't help but to think… perhaps its time to switch sides? Heh. Heh. Heh.

I'm happy to be invited to attend to the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 – something I wouldn't miss for the world.

Can't wait to hold the Samsung S4 in my very own hands and explore/play around with its incredible new features for myself.

All details regarding the phone and happenings of the launch party will be posted up on my blog after the event! smiley

But if you want to get real-time updates during the event itself, I will be posting it LIVE on:

The Sunday Times XXI: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

February 10, 2013 by thejessicat

I swear I don't remember the last time I stayed in Penang for so long!

Usually, I'll only be down for the weekend or so, but this time round was a record of two weeks straight.

I miss mom & dad, as well as my folks in Ipoh and of course, my dearest Penang buddies!

Here are some of the things that made my week superb.

My favorite Iced Dark Chocolate drink from TheObroma Chocolate Lounge @ The Curve

Stole a picture of babyChivas catnapping  on the TV

Gymtime was merciless, as always. Today, it was lower body & core workout day!

Checking into Dome Cafe for dinner!

Dinner was healthy and filling, as always. My favourite Eggs Benedict and a cuppa Chamomile tea

He had the Gourmet Chicken and Mushroom Pie with a serving of sauteed vegetables

Oh goodness me, look at the thick creamy hot soup underneath that golden puff pastry!

It was so hearty and fulfilling! Definitely highly recommended

Headed on a roadtrip back to Penang! The North-South Highway was crystal clear :D

Random selfshot moments

Caught sight of a sporty white Lotus Evora cruising beside me on the highway.

So lovin' its dangerous curves!

Had a food review scheduled at Chin's Stylish Chinese Cuisine on the night I arrived

BuddyMinny was there with me

Check out the framed modern art portraiture of the iconic figures behind us!

I was reserved a table facing the sea and night sky

Look at how impressive those hand-painted ceramic plates are!

Here are some of my top few favourite dishes from the ten-course dinner

*Full blog post featuring Chin's Stylish Chinese Cuisine coming soon!

DnM conversations and catching up with buddyMinny over shishatimes at Venum Shisha!

The next afternoon's training was an uphill task and all about the lifting the weights!

And then it's partying on a Thursday night at Soho Gastro Pub at Precinct 10 with my Penangmates

Here are some more party pictures!

The music was thumping, bottles were poppin' and the party went hard on

electronic dance music all through the night

Afterparty : Supper at the ever-popular Restoran Yunus Khan,

fondly known as 'Jiao Sai' to the Penangites :)

You wanna know why? The term 'Jiao Sai' ('Bird poo' in the Hokkien dialect) was coined when the first branch of Restoran Yunus Khan was easily recognized for the mass amount of bird poo splattered along the road it was located.

Okay, trivia over. Time for the next day!

Dolled up and got ready to go for TWELVE XII's Penang Invasion at QEII Penang

QEII (Queen Elizabeth the Second) is a bar -club right above the sea if you haven't been there yet!

It was crowded with people way before midnight

Partying with TRIMIX & Tigeranddragon!

With my buddies and two of my favorite partymates, Sam & Minny

They always somehow always have a way of making me drink-drank-drunk.

ONE love for trance and progressive music!

TRIMIX was marvellous as usual; hitting all the right spots of any fellow trancer.

It was my first time watching Tigeranddragon – he was great!

Sam, being one of the coolest partygoers and the usual sport he is,

ordered a round of tequila shots for us!

One shot, two shots, three shots, more!

And it's down! No sweat!

But if they make me drink another Flatliner shot, I'll run a mile away. I have an aversion to tabasco! ;(

Managed to catch a picture with TRIMIX and Tigeranddragon. Thanks Samuel! :)

Ramsey and I. He played before they did – at midnight!

My former collegemates Leo and Mike came to join the party too!

We stayed till the lights came on. Fantastic night, pals!

And that wraps up my week. I am exhausted!

Sunday was spent with the family – good ol' quality time with the folks always proves to be therapeutic!

Have a marvellous week ahead, fellas

Much love,

Jessicat

The Sunday Times XVII: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

January 13, 2013 by thejessicat

I've just returned from my weekend trip in Malacca and feeling really exhausted now!

This entire week had been a really busy, eventful and a nerve-wrecking one (you'll see why)

Managed to snap a quick photo whilst out!

Had been caught up, back-to-back, with heaps of errands, appointments and meetings.

Apart from all the boring jizz, here are some other stuff that made my last seven days.

Sampled a new product : NBrew!

I watched, as Malaysia's first Liquid Nitrogen ice-cream was prepared on the spot for me

Unlike some stingy ice-cream parlours which charge a pricey amount for the tiny scoop of ice-cream, N-Brew's portion of ice-cream was a lot more generous! I took my time enjoying it.

As a health advocate, I'd definitely recommend this. It's low in sugar & fat, and does not contain any preservatives, food colouring and stabilizers!

Had the Aglio Olio Fish Fillet in The Apartment @ The Curve over a brief meeting on Monday

Despite the pretty decent food presentation & garnishing, it lacked in the taste department.

Took my little one out for a cat spa – showering, grooming, nail-clipping, fur-trimming, powdering & detangling.

He was pretty edgy that afternoon, for reasons unbeknownst to me

Frolicking at the back of my car. I hate his afternoon eyes. They're beady and menacing.

Much prefer how it looks like at night, I'm sure you've seen some other photos I've posted!

As babyChivas was busy for about an hour or so, Konzy and I had some time to kill.

We decided to check out a Chinese restaurant called Annie 1 @ Damansara Uptown.

Recommendations: the Chicken Curry Egg Noodles were delicious and the Pork Rib Stew was to die for!

It was so cheap too, under 10 bucks

Mid-week saw me darting back and forth to Mont Kiara and back home several times a day.

Can you guess why? You'll find out soon  It's quite obvious, but I'll announce it once it's confirmed!

Had dinner with bestieJoyce, Jo and Konzy.

I'm beginning to love the food in my *cough* new *cough* neighbourhood already

Highly recommended : Kin San Kichi Japanese Restaurant @ Desa Sri Hartamas

I absolutely love their Salmon Sashimi; it's touted the best in KL too!

For only 36 bucks, nine pieces of freshly sliced, EXTREMELY THICK AND BIG CHUNKS of raw salmon were served to us (as you can see in the picture above)

The Salmon Teppanyaki was unbelievably good too. Portions were huge and it was rich in flavour!

Another night of dinner with the fantastic four at Chow Yang Kitchen (潮阳美食店) @ Desa Sri Hartamas

I had a steamed Red Snapper (Tilapia fish) with ground ginger & lots and lots of Chicken Satay!

Again, a more-than-satisifying meal, I must say. Where was I all this while?

How could I not know how good the food was around Mont Kiara & Sri Hartamas?

This week's self-manicured nails! O.P.I's Bastille My Heart and Revlon's Silver Dollar

Some of my simple and quick whips in the kitchen!

This might come as a surprise but I was struck by the motivation bug and started job-hunting!

I know, how random. I'm still so busy being a full-time blogger as it is.

They must've liked my resume, as I received a call to come into the office.

After tedious written tests, evaluation tests and whatnot, I got selected amongst many and was short-listed to go for the next round of interviews!

In the end, I got the job offer!

Feeling very thankful to be given the opportunity to be a part of this esteemed, prestigious publication company with an impressive portfolio of top magazines under their belt!

More about this piece of good news if I feel like divulging more information next time.

For now, I'm one step closer to being the best that they've ever had.

At least, that's what I aim to be!

Off down south on a weekend trip to Malacca. Thanks, Papulex Asia!

This was my pine-log chalet. It's enormous!

I stayed in Philea Resort & Spa, a breathtaking 5 star eco-resort surrounded by nature

Just some quick snaps of the interior. So rustic and cosy, I don't even!

Apart from being occupied with the sharing sessions, meeting, discussions and activities organized by Papulex Asia,

I had some time to myself and did not hesitate to dive into the pool by the waterfall!

I should swim more often, just despise having chlorine in my hair. :/

More about my weekend trip in a full blog post soon!

Konzy picked me up after I arrived back in KL. We headed for dinner at DIB Coffees of Hawaii.

Little did I know that this outlet tucked away in the deeper part of Damansara Perdana was actually operated by the deaf! DIB here means, Deaf in Business.

The coffee was strong and aromatic! (I don't know about the food because that burger was Konzy's,

but he sure looked like he enjoyed it haha!)

I initially wondered why the waiter was so rude not to greet nor welcome us to the restaurant (I didn't know he was hearing impaired and mute at first, obviously!)

But I soon discovered after I noticed the sign language and gestures he used.

Eventually, we spoke It was so easy to "communicate" to the deaf and mute!

He understood my food orders so easily and we even had a brief conversation with each other.

Hmmm… I forsee myself working with the deaf some time in the near future.

I was impressed with their resourcefulness, determination and dedication to their work!

The most devastating highlight of this week was the death of a friend of mine from Penang

She was the innocent passenger & the driver is now in critical condition in the ICU.

The wrecked Porsche 911 Turbo which crashed into a tree at Kelawai Road (estimated at 4-6AM)

on the 13th January 2013 after they were both clubbing at Nueve, Precinct 10 @ Tanjung Bungah

We were from the same hometown, same gym, same Guides & Scouts camp and have the same passion for electronic music & raves.

My heart goes out to you and your family. Rest in Peace, Eli. I'll always remember you.

It is a hefty price to pay – with one's own life. We don't need another loss to remind ourselves that we should all NEVER drink and drive, do we?

Good times, I know. But what happens after?

Never attempt to drive while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance.

What really affected me was that she wasn't only my friend, she lived a similar lifestyle as I did.

It could have easily been me

I shall end this on a very sombre note. Cherish your loved ones and live a life that makes you happy, for you'll never know which day will be the last.

Have a good week peeps. Party responsibly!

Much love,

Jessicat
