I first knew Sum 41 10 years ago when I was in Primary 4. The first song that I heard from them was Over My Head and I felt in love. I asked my mum to by “Does This Look Infected” cassette and imagine her shock by looking at the album cover! But, well, I get it anyway. Sum41 song is a mass of running away to the other world, to our own world, to a better world. That’s how Sum 41 rescued me, rescuing me by focusing in their kind of songs, Punk Rock Songs, a distraction from listening to the kind of songs that were famous back then. All those sappy love songs, and other songs full of violent and sex are worthless. Sum 41 introduced me to what is a real talent, a meaningful music and a right cause. Hence, Sum 41 saves my soul.

I have loved Sum 41 since back in the good ol’ primary school days when we do sing-alongs in class and print lyrics out to bring to school to share with friends. Long gone were the days, now, nothing left but a memory, but a good one nonetheless. Sum 41’s songs carry such powerful meanings and sometimes they do relate to me at whichever state of mind I was in (not forgetting awesome guitar riffs and drum beats in between) 😉

My favourite song from Sum 41 would definitely be “Pieces”. I first heard this song back in 2005 when I was still in high school, being all carefree and soon to be leaving high school to venture out in the land of tertiary education. 🙂 it all seemed scary yet exciting back then. As you all know, high school, sometimes ain’t a bed of roses as it is the phase of self-seeking and character building. This song totally fitted into my phase of life then: the transition between school to university and how some cliques just decided on a uni together. However, I learnt that it is best to be on my own and make my own adventures. The lyrics “I’d say all the words that I know, just to see if it would show, that I’m trying to let you know that I’m better off on my own” relates perfectly to me when my friends in high school tried to get me to follow them to specifics uni or try to get into the same university.

I hope this entry is good enough to score me FREE VIP PASSES TO SUM 41!! <3

Yo, Jess. Here goes!

1. What’s your Sum 41 story? Tell me your most memorable Sum 41 moments.
One of the bestest, most memorable Sum 41 moments was to first watch them on MTV. That was the first time they made an impact on me. And I kept an eye of the band cos I love watching the video and listening to their music.

The band never fails to make good and enjoyable music. They are not afraid to be who they are and I reckon that is what a true rock band is.

3. What’s your favourite Sum 41 song & why?
Hands down, ‘Pieces’. And my fav line was ‘I tried to be perfect but nothing seems worth it’. That’s because we as human being are imperfect. And yet we kept trying to channel our energy to be perfect which I think could be better off use it to enjoy the journey of imperfection moments.

It’s amazing after almost 10 years, I still can sing to every words of the song. This is how much I love Sum 41 and I wana watch them perform live so badly!!
