Here I am blogging live from my hotel room of our official accommodation sponsor, Link Hotel Singapore. Just left Pan Pacific Hotel’s Grand Ballroom for the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards and I must say, I had a terrific time.
From the food, the company of buddies, the impressive stage set-up, presentation and everything else was just mad-awesome!! Oh and did I mention, all my buddies also looked amazing tonight? We had Allan Wu, the host of Amazing Race as our emcee for the evening.
Good job Nuffies
Yup, totally felt like a gala dinner – with me getting all dolled up with all my male pals in their immaculate crisp suits and my gal pals in their flowing cocktail dresses. Oh and, this is my date for the evening, the boyfie! <3
Next up, will also be the videos of the announcement of the winners from each respective category with their ‘grammy’ acceptance speech! Congrats to triple-time winner Xia Xue bagging the Most Influential Blog Award, Best Blog Design Award & Best Regional Blog Award
More event photos to come, with blogger-pals across the region (Malaysian, Singaporean, Australian and Phillipines), the award show itself, the camho moments during the event, candids, the 4-course fine dining served, and everything else right up till the end of the event… but right now, Imma go crash their rooms to play some cards as planned.
I arrived rather nervously, at a highway I’ve never taken to Bangsar before. Slowly but surely my car halted to a stop at a traffic light and I immediately spotted BSC, Bangsar Shopping Complex on my far left.
Courtesy of Xavier Mah, the PR & Communications Manager of the premier and leading hairstyling center and academy, A Cut Above, I was extended an invitation to their grand opening.
Prepare for some wicked and bewildering looks of the century! 🙂
Whoa!
The grand opening of today’s event marks the start of the largest A Cut Above outlet – ever! With an abundance of hairstyling space and private rooms, tools & equipments, staff and well-trained craftsmanship from A Cut Above, this new flagship store is something to look forward to!
The front entrance
Right before the press conference, I checked out the entire interior of this new outlet. And I love it! Such a modern feel yet never leaving the key elements of a hair salon should resemble. Here’s only one part of it though, the hairwash section :
From what I noticed, they use leading brands such as Kerastase and Loreal while servicing their clients
Whilst I was still exploring, I managed to catch the preperations and last minute touch-ups in progress. Whoaa for big hairdos!
Must be for the hair show later, I reckon
Dayang Nurfaizah getting her hair all stylo-mylo before making her appearance
I hung out for a while walking around and chatting with some familiar faces(in the media line, you’re bound to keep meeting the same people over and over again!)when I bumped into Winnie Loo. Without her, A Cut Above wouldn’t have been proudly standing here till today.
She’s the queen bee yo Founder and MD of A Cut Above!
Much respect goes to her. She started this empire from scratch when she was young and has since spread its wings to many outlets in the Klang Valley and KL City.
The press conference soon began and we were ushered to another room to have a seat. This was where she and Xavier shared the lowdown on the opening of this spanking new outlet. When I threw the question, I asked if she was still very much involved in the haircutting/hairstyling part where she 1st begun, despite climbing so high in this industry and already being on the manegerial level.
She mentioned that she was“still very hands on and even personally cuts the hair of some of her clients upon request.”
I liked the part where she stated that despite having thousands and thousands of staff, she “will never put down her scizzors, why give the fun to someone else?” Well said, babe!
Moments later before the event officially begun, I spotted even more familiar faces and as usual, we camwhored over some drinks, a dinner buffet and yes.. Haagen Daaz ice-cream!
To grace this event, over 40 celebrities were seen mingling about as well. A notable pair being the one directly above. Anita Sarawak, the diva and her Caucasian husband, now acknowledged as Mahathir. I like how they match perfectly well at every event, from the hair colour (were both blonde previously!) to the apparel they have on their backs.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony!
Both, the emcees Baki and Aishah Sinclair did a swell job in hyping up the crowd!
The 1st to go on stage was a duo of Dennis Lau, the amazing musician and Shafinaz Selamat, the Malaysian songbird. Together they cooked up a ravishing duet performance of both vocals and instrumental elements!
As soulful as ever
What really cracked me up during the following performance was that the singer was in her own world singing while Winnie Loo was also in her own element spraying the former’s hair!
In their very niche of life! Such an entertaining performance
Before we knew it, dramatic music was heard blasting from the speakers and everyone huddled by the red carpet to watch the fiery showdown of eccentric hairdos of the century.
Such creative hairdos really enthralled all of us. Coupled with tight fitting latex suits and heavy make up, this one’s perfect for a galactic battle!
Singing ‘One Night Only’ was Nikki, a former Malaysian Idol finalist. I could hardly recognize her as the last time I watched it was when I was still in high school. My my, look how much she progressed in terms of vocals and stage presense! Woots
Last but never the least, came buddy Shawn the human beatbox to crank up the after party. Who’s not to love him? He’s our small little fellow who can bellow a herd of wilderbeasts away!
Beatboxing one of his trademark performances, Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction
The party ended with more photo taking, mingling and fooling around. I had a great time at the event and well, it was a blast! From the food, the warm company, the performances and everything… kudos to A Cut Above!
You’ll see me back here very soon, Imma dye back my red streaks of hair. It’s time for a touch up! Oh but.. um.. not.. like this afro though!
I was driving in the car yesterday back home from an event and I managed to catch this rockish punk song playing on radio. Can’t believe I actually waited all alone in my car even after parking just to hear the radio announcers mention the song name and the band.
This was d last photo I took just before that song played!
It has this Greenday-meets-Fallout Boy feel to it! The beginning was really different though… it was some repetitive electric guitar plucking for quite a while then came the rockish elements and the heavy percussion bass.
Tried to Google and YouTube it but to no avail. It’s a really catchy song. I even checked the latest releases from most punk rock bands like Greenday, Fallout Boy, All American Rejects, Boys Like Girls and even local bands.
Was in my room listening to the radio all night till I slept, but I all heard was Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida, Timbaland, Pixie Lott, Taylor Swift and more. Hey, it’s NOT HELPING!RAWR!!! >___<
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PLAYLIST? ‘THE SONG’ DID NOT EVEN PLAY ONCE MORE!
I only heard it ONCE, but I think it goes something like :
“Me and You When we are not alone *something something* We are together now *another line I can’t really remember* Through my window I can see Our wildest dreams could be so real”
and another part I like :
“there’s more than you and more than me”
It totally felt like a rock concert kinda song despite having such meaningful lyrics! So annoying when you love the song but don’t know what it is!
Ohnoes I need to know this song! Is it some upcoming international band or some indie new song that can’t seem to be found online ANYWHERE on search engines?
If anyone knows what the title of the song is, please lemme know!
Till now, I’ll be keeping my ears peeled and stuck to the radio. Just in case it plays again! Do help me pay attention to the song too alright? If I STILL can’t figure that song out or if all those radio stations didn’t play it again, Imma record myself singing it so that you guys have a better idea.
WILL/MUST/SHALL find out and won’t rest till I know what song it is! Bahhh!
The Malaysian International Gourmet Festival 2009 (MIGF 09) will be here throughout the month of October! Courtesy of Prince Hotel & Residencies, I received an exclusive media invitation for their Fashion, Food & Wine Review in Tai Zi Heen along with the rest of my fave foodies.
Prior to the event, we were privileged to have a short tour around Carven Ong’s boutique. He’s one of Malaysia’s best fashion designers – specializing in evening wear and wedding gowns.
I was enticed by the plethora of bright colours upon walking into his flagship outlet! Yellow, green, orange, pink were seen abundantly in his color coordinated dresses.
I wasted no time in browsing through the ballgowns, while visualizing which one I’d look good or princess-ey in. Hmm… lemme see..
Reminds me of a fairytale wedding of Cinderella!
But one that suits me the most, considering the fact that reddish hues was my most preferred colors. But unfortunately, I was too shy to come outta the dressing room. Ohmy! I wouldn’t wanna come out and parade in it when I was actually just trying it on!
But Carven & his team were very friendly and accomodating. It’s always best to know that you’re around warm company for more proffesional advice whenever you’re choosing the right attire for your wedding/ball.
After all, he is THE wedding specialist!
There were also 2 chinese leggy models present for this event. They were strutting about in tight fitting cheongsams which complemented their svelte figure extremely well.
Double trouble!
Carven Ong specially designed those ‘Oriental Flower’ couture series for this event and it was portrayed beautifully by 2 chinese models.
Very intricately done outfits if I have to say so myself
Speaking of outfits, check out the newly designed uniform of the hotel staff! Pleasant indeed. I like how Prince Hotel made the effort to befit their theme for the evening.
Oh here’s a really random photo. I don’t know why I look so stern and formal in the picture below but anyway, nice brown dress in my background ey? The cheong sam elements remained along with a burst of modernism.
Moving on to our other part of the Fashion, Food & Wine event for the evening was of course, where your tastebuds will take you.
Are your tummies ready to rumble?
For those not in the know, Tai Zi Heen is an award winning Chinese restaurant in Prince Hotel, and will once again, be part of the MIGF 09.
Tai Zi Heen will be presenting ‘A Hong Kong Encounter’ featuring Ricky Thein, their Chinese master chef ‘s sign ature Cantonese cuisine delicacies.
Ricky did the peace sign during our camwhore!
With Andrew, the F&B manager and Donald Pezar, the head chef!
Imma share my very own Hong Kong encounter with yall right now.Let’s begin with the quadruple dished appetizers
Clockwise from top : Foie Gras Yam Puff Shredded Beef with Dried Tangerine Peel Wok-fried prawn with Asian Tomato and black sesame dressing Steamed cod dumpling with crab meat glaze
My fave was the Foie Gras Yam Puff! Imagine, something so westernized met with the oriental Hong Kong style of yam combinations.
A duo of duckling and organic yin choy broths with sun-dried seafood, prawn and hairy gourd was next. The gourds was imported from Hong Kong itself! (Hairy too haha)
Anything with fish will definitely stir me up! Honey and soya baked salmon with fragrant crab roe, soya beans, broad beans, honshimeji mushrooms and wolf berry sauce came in next.
This was a real winner!
Impressive presentation, no? This dish was named the Citrus Marinated Lamb Rack Roasted With White Sesame Seeds, Wok-fried Baby Cabbage, Fresh Lily Bulbs and a Spicy Minted Plum Sauce
The next dish was Dan Mee With Soy-Braised Beef, Carrots, radish and leek topped with splash of red wine. I took d spoon and dunked all the wine into the noodles!
The desserts were a great fusion of Hong Kong cuisine as well. Fancy some Chocolate Whiskey Siew Mai, Vanilla Ice Cream With Fresh Mango Puree, Sago and Pomelo? Yum.
The chocolate whiskey! Gosh.. a real craving
A wholesome dinner would not be complete without a glass of premium wine, yes? Like I previously mentioned, I fancy my meals topped of with a dash of wine.
To further enhance this Hong Kong Encounter, Pernod Ricard Malaysia introduced their fine selections of wine – Jacob’s Creek Reserve Shiraz to complement Chef’ Ricky’s exquisite, festive menu.
For those who appreciate the finer things in life, this wine is for you! Tastes really good to the tastebuds. I bet all of us loved it to bits! From one to a group of more than ten, this fiesta really rocked out evening.
Wine isn’t meant to be drank alone!
With 2 of my fave foodies, Sid & Tocky
The motley crew!
All in all, with much gratitude to Prince Hotel, I can definitely say that their Fashion, Food & Wine event was a success. All the best to Chinese Chef Ricky! We enjoyed every morsel of your gastronomic escapade to Hong Kong.
Now that the craze is on, I can’t wait for my Berry to arrive! Anyhoos, I was down at Republic, Sunway Pyramid to attend the Xberry party – the official launch of the Blackberry Curve 8520 by XPax, Celcom.
There were tweets about the Xberry party being displayed on the LCD screen in real-time!
For that night only, that pretty Blackberry Curve 8520 was sold for RM 888 only! Together with Xpax’s package of course. But hey, don’t fret if you missed this chance because there’s another good bargain for RM 998 + a RM50 reload from now till 15th November 2009.
When I arrived, I headed down to our VVIP area for the free-flow of drinks. The party soon began with buddy Shawn Lee, as the human beatboxer to kick start the party!
If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know I mentioned him before!
Rin and I loves him THISSSSSSS MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Okay, you can’t see the gravity of the lurrrveee in the previous sentence but we were screaming our heads off during his performance
Putcha hands up for Shawn Lee!
After his booming performance, I got him to take a piccie with us. One for the road! You’ll go far in this musical career of yours – ya got us all to back you up buddy.
we *heart* him!
Next up came Joe Flizzow, our pioneer of local HipHop aka the Kanye West of Malaysia. He gave his usual energetic and upbeat performance with lotsa rap, breakbeats and breakdancers.
Kartello Hellllllloooooooooo!
During his performance, the other pals and I began camwhoring – attempting to get Joe in the background LOL

Bok my foodie & I | Erin ma babe &I Joe’s not in the background again!
Okay, so we failed to get Joe in the background. But anyway, here he is still pumping the night away with HipHop yo! I can always remember him during the TooPhat days.
He drove the crowd wild with those familiar hiphop beats yo!
During his performance, I grabbed some dinner with a few others. The meal portion was so huge at Republic until Hong couldn’t even finish his pasta. That’s where I came in – but still unfinished after the 2 of us ate!
But KY finished his in a jiffy!
After dinner
Joe was still performing and I noticed something pretty darn interesting. I caught him scratching/digging/toying/adjusting/whatever down south during his performance!
Hmm.. that doesn’t look very nice ITCHY AH?
Next on the line-up was Arabyrd shaking her booty with her rap numbers and Lap Sap spinning the decks. But I was already inside Republic having some rad drinks with the rest already. Could hear then from inside though!
piccie credits to Joshua
Dancing, drinking and partying what more could I say? Jeremy’s back is all wet from the breakdancing!
Woots!
With the ex-roomie and a rare specimen behind us. 🙂
I then went our for a short breather and bumped into Shawn again. He yelled, “Jesssss!!! Come camwhore!” and there we go again!
Back inside, I was fascinated by the lighting inside Republic, as those dancing and flashing laser lights resembled splatters of Nickelodeon paint on the guests.
Interesting! Let’s play some more!
Oh and… apparently I failed to get Joe in the background earlier on, yeah? But *cough* look who’s partying now?(Of all cameras, you just HAD to look at another person’s camera huh Joe?)
On a final note, I can’t wait for my berry to arrive! Ah sweeeeeeeeeeeeet 🙂 1st thing I’ll do is to pimp it with black-red and bling it
