The Sunday Times XVII: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

January 13, 2013 by thejessicat

I've just returned from my weekend trip in Malacca and feeling really exhausted now!

This entire week had been a really busy, eventful and a nerve-wrecking one (you'll see why)

Managed to snap a quick photo whilst out!

Had been caught up, back-to-back, with heaps of errands, appointments and meetings.

Apart from all the boring jizz, here are some other stuff that made my last seven days.

Sampled a new product : NBrew!

I watched, as Malaysia's first Liquid Nitrogen ice-cream was prepared on the spot for me

Unlike some stingy ice-cream parlours which charge a pricey amount for the tiny scoop of ice-cream, N-Brew's portion of ice-cream was a lot more generous! I took my time enjoying it.

As a health advocate, I'd definitely recommend this. It's low in sugar & fat, and does not contain any preservatives, food colouring and stabilizers!

Had the Aglio Olio Fish Fillet in The Apartment @ The Curve over a brief meeting on Monday

Despite the pretty decent food presentation & garnishing, it lacked in the taste department.

Took my little one out for a cat spa – showering, grooming, nail-clipping, fur-trimming, powdering & detangling.

He was pretty edgy that afternoon, for reasons unbeknownst to me

Frolicking at the back of my car. I hate his afternoon eyes. They're beady and menacing.

Much prefer how it looks like at night, I'm sure you've seen some other photos I've posted!

As babyChivas was busy for about an hour or so, Konzy and I had some time to kill.

We decided to check out a Chinese restaurant called Annie 1 @ Damansara Uptown.

Recommendations: the Chicken Curry Egg Noodles were delicious and the Pork Rib Stew was to die for!

It was so cheap too, under 10 bucks

Mid-week saw me darting back and forth to Mont Kiara and back home several times a day.

Can you guess why? You'll find out soon  It's quite obvious, but I'll announce it once it's confirmed!

Had dinner with bestieJoyce, Jo and Konzy.

I'm beginning to love the food in my *cough* new *cough* neighbourhood already

Highly recommended : Kin San Kichi Japanese Restaurant @ Desa Sri Hartamas

I absolutely love their Salmon Sashimi; it's touted the best in KL too!

For only 36 bucks, nine pieces of freshly sliced, EXTREMELY THICK AND BIG CHUNKS of raw salmon were served to us (as you can see in the picture above)

The Salmon Teppanyaki was unbelievably good too. Portions were huge and it was rich in flavour!

Another night of dinner with the fantastic four at Chow Yang Kitchen (潮阳美食店) @ Desa Sri Hartamas

I had a steamed Red Snapper (Tilapia fish) with ground ginger & lots and lots of Chicken Satay!

Again, a more-than-satisifying meal, I must say. Where was I all this while?

How could I not know how good the food was around Mont Kiara & Sri Hartamas?

This week's self-manicured nails! O.P.I's Bastille My Heart and Revlon's Silver Dollar

Some of my simple and quick whips in the kitchen!

This might come as a surprise but I was struck by the motivation bug and started job-hunting!

I know, how random. I'm still so busy being a full-time blogger as it is.

They must've liked my resume, as I received a call to come into the office.

After tedious written tests, evaluation tests and whatnot, I got selected amongst many and was short-listed to go for the next round of interviews!

In the end, I got the job offer!

Feeling very thankful to be given the opportunity to be a part of this esteemed, prestigious publication company with an impressive portfolio of top magazines under their belt!

More about this piece of good news if I feel like divulging more information next time.

For now, I'm one step closer to being the best that they've ever had.

At least, that's what I aim to be!

Off down south on a weekend trip to Malacca. Thanks, Papulex Asia!

This was my pine-log chalet. It's enormous!

I stayed in Philea Resort & Spa, a breathtaking 5 star eco-resort surrounded by nature

Just some quick snaps of the interior. So rustic and cosy, I don't even!

Apart from being occupied with the sharing sessions, meeting, discussions and activities organized by Papulex Asia,

I had some time to myself and did not hesitate to dive into the pool by the waterfall!

I should swim more often, just despise having chlorine in my hair. :/

More about my weekend trip in a full blog post soon!

Konzy picked me up after I arrived back in KL. We headed for dinner at DIB Coffees of Hawaii.

Little did I know that this outlet tucked away in the deeper part of Damansara Perdana was actually operated by the deaf! DIB here means, Deaf in Business.

The coffee was strong and aromatic! (I don't know about the food because that burger was Konzy's,

but he sure looked like he enjoyed it haha!)

I initially wondered why the waiter was so rude not to greet nor welcome us to the restaurant (I didn't know he was hearing impaired and mute at first, obviously!)

But I soon discovered after I noticed the sign language and gestures he used.

Eventually, we spoke It was so easy to "communicate" to the deaf and mute!

He understood my food orders so easily and we even had a brief conversation with each other.

Hmmm… I forsee myself working with the deaf some time in the near future.

I was impressed with their resourcefulness, determination and dedication to their work!

The most devastating highlight of this week was the death of a friend of mine from Penang

She was the innocent passenger & the driver is now in critical condition in the ICU.

The wrecked Porsche 911 Turbo which crashed into a tree at Kelawai Road (estimated at 4-6AM)

on the 13th January 2013 after they were both clubbing at Nueve, Precinct 10 @ Tanjung Bungah

We were from the same hometown, same gym, same Guides & Scouts camp and have the same passion for electronic music & raves.

My heart goes out to you and your family. Rest in Peace, Eli. I'll always remember you.

It is a hefty price to pay – with one's own life. We don't need another loss to remind ourselves that we should all NEVER drink and drive, do we?

Good times, I know. But what happens after?

Never attempt to drive while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance.

What really affected me was that she wasn't only my friend, she lived a similar lifestyle as I did.

It could have easily been me

I shall end this on a very sombre note. Cherish your loved ones and live a life that makes you happy, for you'll never know which day will be the last.

Have a good week peeps. Party responsibly!

Much love,

Jessicat

The Sunday Times VII: Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

October 7, 2012 by thejessicat

Hello hello! It's Sunday again & I'm feeling so energized!

All pumped up from today's gym session but my legs feel like complete jelly at the moment.

I'm a work in progress.

Well I guess that's whatchu get from insane, merciless core trainings & floor workouts of crunches burpees, front planks, leg-lifts, push-ups, lunges, sit-ups, squats yesterday and straight on to today's high-intensity Body Combat session as well as more crunches & planking.

I think I over-exert myself sometimes

Which is why I only drink Horley's Sculpt protein shakes to restore the protein I need from all those mad workouts

Today's choice of gym shoes: Adidas Adipure 360 for Body Combat & floor workouts! Thanks Adidas Malaysia

I need a massage to relieve my tired muscles. Pronto! ;(

Oh and I think I've said this before, I eat like a pig but I train like a hunting dog.

I can never say no to mamak food. Oh the delicious curry, tandoori chicken, spices & thosai

We all gotta reward ourselves sometimes. Heh. heh. heh.

My treats include chocolate, milkshakes & cheese cakes.

So if you're feeling kind or want to fatten me up with anything like how the 'Hansel & Gretel' witch tried to do to Hansel, you can make me a happy girl

Which was exactly what the wonderful peeps at Pizza Hut Malaysia did last Tuesday.

I was invited to the Pizza Hut Cheesy 7 Red Carpet party!

They blindfolded me while I sampled the Cheesy 7 pizza – which was a much-speculated comeback.

(Full blogpost coming soon!)

What I wore for the night!

After sinfully good food, I always I burn off what I eat – if not at least half of the consumed calories.

Let's kick some arse.

And the gym has always my second home since 2007

Yes, I'm emphasizing the year I became a gym rat, because lately, I've had many people asking me "So what made you so into fitness & gym all of a sudden?"

You asked the question five years too late, baby.

My answer would be – NOTHING. Because I've always been into health & fitness.

Throughout all these years as a fitness junkie, I've never shared my routines nor workout photos before. (I think the most obvious is my constant tweeting and Foursquare check-ins into various gyms and parks).

So, I hope you guys don't ask me the same question anymore pretty please T__T

Here's a Thai restaurant I'd like to recommend – Restoran Aroma Thai @ Damansara Perdana

Tom Yam Seafood soup, Pineapple Rice, Thai-style Curry Beef, Pandan Chicken & Cashewnut Prawns

They all tasted authentic and each were reasonably priced around the range of RM8 – RM20

Attended the Topshop Members Day party on a Thursday night

Major love for polaroids! Always wanted a polaroid camera

My Thursday was quite eventful. It was spent undergoing a very special procedure for my hair.

It is the Brazilian Keratin Treatment  This is only available at A Cut Above hair salons!

I daresay it was the best & most professionally done treatment for my recently-damaged hair

(Full blogpost coming soon!)

The gorgeous & talented Winnie Loo also gave my hair a magical touch with her expertise at haircuts

She gave me a very bold & edgy new asymmetrical hairstyle – just the way I like it

Can't wait to blog about the entire experience at A Cut Above!

I had so much fun with dearest Winnie experimenting new & unconventional looks for me.

Dinner Thursdate with boyfieKon at Chilis Bar & Grill @ Mid Valley Megamall right after

He had the Jalapeno Steak Quesadillas while I had the Chicken Club Tacos

More healthy homemade goodness when I stormed my kitchen as usual.

Take a look!

Fresh garden salad & Thousand Island dressing

Fluffy omelette with Old El Paso salsa & lots of ground pepper!

Friday's breakfast!

Cornflakes with fat-free yoghurt & apple slices

It's Friday night! Off to shimmey down & usher in the weekend with some electronic music at Zouk Club KL!

Feeling a lil punkass tonight ;)

KLCC hey hey!

I don't know about my fellow Malaysians but even after living in this country all my life, I never fail to be amazed at our very own iconic KLCC Petronas Twin-Towers, which was once the world's tallest building!

Partied my Friday night away at Sidney Samson LIVE in Malaysia at Mainroom, Zouk Club KL

RIVER! RIVER! RIVERSIDE… *bleeeeeep*!

Had so much fun with the buddies

Sidney Samson dropped beats from Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, David Guetta, Zedd, Steve Aoki apart from his very own original tracks. Heck, he even surprised us with several old skool, hip-hop/rap music!

On second thought, it's pretty obvious that he's a fan. He even had a Snoop Dogg T-Shirt on :D

Oh did you know (or even bother to know) that every Saturday is NO PLASTIC BAG DAY at Tesco?

Well, now you do… and you better be prepared!

The last thing you'd wanna do is to lug all your groceries by hand, all the way to your car LOL. For the first time, I actually remembered and brought along two large non-woven environmental friendly bags with me :D

Spent my Saturday night being Bob the Builder with bestiePam

Was busy fixing a new shoe rack for our my collection of shoes!

Hey, they need a nice pedestal to sit prettily too

Let me introduce to you my (now) neatly displayed, happy family of 55 pairs of my favorite footwear!

High-heels, wedges, stilettos, flats, peep-toes, slingbacks, boots,

sneakers, high-tops, runners, gym shoes & flip-flops!

Will be sharing a panorama photo of both mine and bestiePam's shoe collection soon!

I know, don't freak out.

Some girls collect handbags, make up, perfume, stuffed animals, soap bars… and the list goes on.

I told you I'm a caterpillar. I have too many feet & all of them want a pair of shoes to wear :P

httpv://youtu.be/zXspm7k7juE

Song of the week that came just in time! That's some epic dubstep right there

BoyfieKon is blasting it in our living room right this very moment & totally got me hooked

Another thing I did this week that I just have to share is…

HAHA! I TRAILED A SPEEDING AMBULANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!

You know how people follow/tailgate ambulances because every vehicle will make way for them?

Well, I've seen lotsa motorists do it, and since I've always wanted to take advantage of the ambulance's emergency lane, I did. It was cool how everyone gave way to me too :P (It works. I arrived my destination in half the usual time)

That's all for this week. G'night, dearies. Dream of unicorns and rainbows tonight, aight? ;)

Make sure you're well-rested to tackle your next seven days with gusto!

Much love,

Jessicat

The Sunday Times V : Sights, sounds, adventures & eats! My week in a flash ♥

September 23, 2012 by thejessicat

Hellooooo dear readers! How's your week been so far?

7 days of sweat and toil at your workplace? Or 7 days of hard-pressed studying & assignments?

Whatever it is, hope you guys tackled it with a big wide smile!

This week has been pretty intense for me; I've had back-to-back trainings everyday to prepare me physically and mentally for my very first marathon!

Did my routine of strength, endurance and high intensity interval running at Celebrity Fitness

The ground WILL tremor beneath your strength, people! So push your boundaries and work that body!

A good friend of mine, Ken, shared this quote with me and I took an instant liking to it!

Decided to make it my motto of the week

On lazy days or rainy days (LOL excuses) I'd just go to the gym at my condominium pool!

Since I'm back in Penang for the weekend, I dragged mom & kakak to Bukit Dumbar to accompany me

And obviously to get them up and going too! No life is sedentary with me around :D:D

Ran 7KM in 45 minutes. I wonder how long tomorrow's session will take?

Got the latest Adipure 360 Born for the Gym sports sneakers!

Thanks Adidas Malaysia for these lovely pair of versatile gym shoes

Decked in Adidas from top to toe on the day of their official launch party!

(Full blogpost coming soon!)

Found this on Tumblr and couldn't agree more :)

Outfit of the day. Feeling a tad sporty one afternoon!

Anyway, apart from my vigorous trainings and running practices, I've been up to heaps of other stuff.

I gotta eat, too! I can now afford to eat like a starving pig – believe me, I have a voracious appetite! – because I constantly burn almost 500 calories everytime I work out. So, no worries!

One I'd always recommend, time and time again –

The Dragon Roll from Sushi Zanmai is my absolute fave. Made with tempura prawns, avocado & roe!

Made a healthy dinner of Chicken & Vegetable Stew!

All the protein & fibre I need to get me going

My current favorite morning bites which always gets me on the move!

A hot cuppa coffee + cornflakes with all natural yoghurt & a dollop of honey

Caught up with my Greek friend Jason as he is transiting/visiting KL before he goes back to Australia!

Why not bring the two Greek boys out for dinner + shisha at Herris @ Damansara Perdana

Had a great time catching up with Jason. Talked about everything and anything under the sun!

When we were eating, a filming crew shot footages of us eating, for a local program called 'Jalan-jalan Cari Makan'. So you might see me on TV when its aired LOL!

Sent my car for a thorough carwash, polish & vacuum (finally!) at the neighbourhood petrol station

Now, even a single piece of litter in my car gets me in a frenzy. OCD time haha

Amazing how these petrol station/carwash boys only charge 4 bucks per car wash and an additional 2 bucks for interior vacuuming. That's real cheap, seriously. I know it's not rocket science to wash a car, but surely it isn't only worth 4 bucks?

They do a pretty good job too though!

Not going to tell you which petrol station, because the queue is long enough hahahahaha!

Don't wanna recommend and have to wait even longer ;(;(

(But if you really, really wanna know you can always ask me la)

I can't wait to watch Hotel Transylvania!

Had always been a fan of freaky cartoons & Tim Burton-ish kinda movies

Found this and got so enamoured by the progress humankind has made over the years!

The shopaholic in me strikes again! Love this rugged pair of brass-buckled leather heels from Pedro.

I know I can always trust Pedro for their exquisite quality of shoes

As crazy as I am over high-heels (I have 35 pairs altogether, no, I cannot believe myself either LOL!), my love for pumped-up kicks & sneakers alike knows no bounds.

I turn to the casual, street-style when I feel like kicking back on lazy afternoons!

My new pair of Playboy high-top sneakers!

Major, major love for them. It's studded and the Playboy Bunny has diamante blings for its eyes

And no, just so you know, I'm not a crazy shoe lady

I'm just a caterpillar with too many feet, hence needing many, many shoes

Updated my iPhone software the all-new iOS6! Go update yours too!

It's heaps smoother & I can't stop listening to all the new podcasts I've downloaded

Oooh I'm back in Penang for the weekend!

It's daddy's birthday so yes, here I am back at home to celebrate with the family.

Happy 52nd Birthday, daddy-o!

Mom ordered giant freshly baked crabs during the birthday dinner!

I recommend Teluk Kumbar Seafood place for amazingly fresh & quality seafood

Randomly, I just noticed how "unskilled" I am in eating crabs – that's the only reason why I don't eat crabs often! I will often end up wasting a good crab all because I'm dreadful at peeling the crab or knowing just where all the hidden meat are. :/

Watching mom's sleight of hand while cracking, breaking and twisting out the crab meat from the crab made my jaw drop. I guess she's a more pro seafood person than I am hahaha!

Thanks boyfieKon for sending me a piccie of babyChivas whilst I'm away!

Was beginning to miss my mischievous little ball of fluff

That's all for this week! Will be back in KL on Tuesday for a meeting and to continue the rest of my week.

Have a wonderful seven days ahead. Don't forget to ALWAYS stay fit & eat healthy too!

That being said, remember to drink 7 litres of water everyday

Listen to your body, it is powerful

Much love,

Jessicat

Learnt some magic under the tutorledge of two fabulous cardicians

You know who you both are. Much love & gratitude!

Made a snack at home  Do I smell something healthy?

Fresh lettuce, red corals, wild rocket leaves, butter hearts, radicchio,

red oakleaves with watermelon chunks, oregano & thousand island!

Hit the gym again! Did my usual routine and a 5KM track-run :D

Had a bout of a rather dreadful emotional turmoil & lost my appetite for 4 days.

Stayed in bed. Refused to get out. Wallowed in depression. But yeah, tried to smile for the camera anyhow LOL

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx6deVzKeKQ&feature=player_detailpage

Song of the week

Picked up the pieces, put on a smile and buried my misery six feet under

Question is : How can you forget someone who gave you so much to remember?

Just got back from a satisfying dinner! I recommend the Chicken & Lamb Mixed Royal Kebab with Saffron Rice

A cosy & VERY reasonably priced Middle Eastern place : Saffron Cafe & Restaurant in Damansara Perdana!

Well, that's what's I've buzzing with during past fortnight, apart from the emotional rollercoaster ride.

It's rather personal, don't ask  But what didn't kill me, made me stronger!

… overcome the tears & attempt the next stride with a smile :D

This week, I am thankful for :

1) The immediate people around me

2) The lessons in life which I learnt the hard way.

Have a great seven days ahead dear readers

Much love,

Jessicat

I'm going overseas and I need your help! Ritze Perdana Studio Apartment for Rent (Available Feb 2011)

December 8, 2010 by thejessicat

I've got a short announcement to make… and I really need you guys to help! 🙁 🙁

My contract with the owner of the current condo I reside is until 1 April 2011 but I was accepted into Monash University in Australia for February 2011's semester.

See my dilemma here? 🙁

This would mean that I will have to burn extra 2 months of rental, despite already being there in Melbourne!

And also, if I don't manage to get a replacement tenant (can be staying for 2 months only or for long-term as long as you want), the owner is unable to return me my deposit fees, which means, more money burnt for me! 🙁 🙁 I'm so screwed.

The view outside my house

I lived here throughout this year (2010) and in all honestly, I really do love this place. It's a safe neighbourhood, with nice and friendly neighbours and everything that I ever need.

My crib Ritze Perdana in Damansara Perdana is right smack in the middle of so many places all walking distance! From shopping malls to highways, grocery stores, hair salons, laundrettes and most of all, so many outlets to eat!

You name it, Chinese food, Malay Food, Mamaks, Restaurants, Cafes and everything mannn.

I'd continue staying here for as long as I can – because I like it here so much! – if I wasn't heading off overseas so soon 🙁

Before I moved in, I kept searching high and low for a place which is really convenient to get to anywhere and one that I can actually call home.

And i found it right here! 😀 😀

My condo even has a nice, private park just downstairs

Great place to jog and stuff. Windy too!

I swim really often here. Oh and there's a big BBQ area on the left
which you can't exactly see due to the tree branches

Pretty, right? 🙂

Please share this information, tweet, Facebook, email or just tell anyone that might be interested or looking for a place to stay!

I would really appreciate it, and I would even treat you to a meal too if all goes well! 🙂

On to the insides!

My kitchen + dining area!

It's really spacious too! 🙂

I've had cook outs and lunch potlucks with my friends here before

I love the stove too! 🙂 And yes, I do cook at times.

Anyway, as the months go by, I began to do a little decorating hehe 🙂

😀 😀

I have this really really huge built-in wardrobe too. Lotsa compartments inside for hanging, drawers, shelves and plenty of room for all your stuff.

In fact, I've no idea how it managed to keep all my clothes, bags, pillows, accessories, and many other of my things. Next up, I'll be putting up a sale to sell all those favorite things that I've no choice but to let go. Can't possibly bring everything overseas! 🙁

My friend came over to visit and was shocked at the size of my wardrobe!

Super-awesome storage compartment

There's a television set inside too 🙂

Here's the bathroom.

But don't worry! My owner has already removed the bathtub and fixed the shower head with a built in water heater.

'Cos not many people actually like bathtubs, I prefer showering than taking baths too 🙂

And another reason why I say this is a good bargain and very worth it, is because when I first moved in, the place was quite bare. It looked like this and this was all I got –

But now, I've spruced it up and these are all what you're gonna get!

Obviously you won't get my clothes, toys, photo frames lar okay. 🙂

Logically, please!

Anyway, I live alone with family members coming over to stay often. On one occasion, my homies from Penang needed a place to stay before our Genting trip and all 4 of them stayed over with me for the night. 🙂

It's perfect for individuals or a couple/siblings/2 friends… anything!

I also loved it here 'cos it's more private and you have your own freedom to do anything, no more shitty housemates or horrible demanding landlords that you gotta put up with 🙂

The bestie Joyce came over to stay with me before too

I've got lots of fond memories in this house, so take care of it for me dear future tenant! 🙂
