CHIVAS: Akon Freedom Beach Concert | Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach

November 1, 2009 by thejessicat

Nyahahaha.. looks like Akon was the most preferred choice in the end, when I asked in this entry. Thanks for the immediate response loves! Okay as promised, here’s the lowdown on the R&B HipHop artist Akon’s showstopping gig :

beautiful
Love the lyrics to his song ‘Beautiful’

I had a trip in Singapore cut short and flew back to Malaysia on Saturday, just in time for Akon’s gig. Now, I wouldn’t miss that for the world. After all, he is to date, one of the dopest artists I reckon – producing and singing so many of my fave club anthems. Yup, huge fan speaking here!

Headed right down to Sunway Lagoon with Erin, who was my guest for this event.
Funny how we darted back and forth from the carpark to the entrance twice whilst chomping down our to-go dinners in between!

Photobucket
Myself & Erin

To kick-start the event in style, singer Nikki blew the crowd away with her powerful vocals whilst Caprice, our local HipHop homeboy melted the ladies hearts’. I could remember Nikki from being one of the finalists of Malaysian Idol (I forgot which season LOL)

Emcees of the night was Hunny Madu & Nadia from Fly.Fm and to be frank, Hunny did most of the talking while Nadia responded a tad too little. Hmm but ANYWAY the duo hyped up the crowd to ensure Akon could hear them beckoning him to come upstage – FAST!

Photobucket
Extremely TALL man spotted!
(he was prolly on some big burly man’s shoulders)

The moment he came upstage, all of us at the VIP Island put down our Chivas on the rocks and dashed to the front to take in a better view of Akon, the man himself.

He began with his older songs from the 1st few songs I recognized him for. ‘Ghetto’ especially. I recall singing along to it when I was only 14 – 15 years old. Sadly, he didn’t sing ‘Mr. Lonely’! I absolutely love that song and apparently my folks fancies it too.

konvicted
One of his fans even gave him a jersey bearing
“KONVICTED”
on it! Talk about passion, boyyyyy!

Throughout the entire performance, he was practically stripping. Woots! Now now, don’t get your thoughts infiltrated by my words. Heh. He was just removing his tops piece by piece to gradually reveal a drool-worthy of a muscular body.

Check it out :

Was also there partying with Andy, another fellow photohunter with 10 years more experience than I have strapped to my belt. We were shooting almost all night but hmmm.. but check out our flushed faces. Blame the free flow of Chivas on the rocks! Woots

andyme
Where photos come alive!
And thanks to this awesome event by Martensia events, Chivas Regal and Sunway, I also met some new friends, who were equal die-hard fans of Akon as I was! Had a good time partying with you peeps too

Photobucket

The strangest part was when Erin nudged me when I was sitting very still on the rocks, asking me to observe Akon’s lips and try to match it with the songs that were amplified from the speakers.

Photobucket
in deep concentration
Thanks for the candid Andy! 🙂

Only then I realized that he could probably be lip-syncing at certain points of time. Hmmm.. I’ll leave that to your imagination then, but let’s just hope he doesn’t pull a Sean Kingston on us yeh?

Photobucket

Akon still rocks our
socks crocs anytime!

oh and he has VERY CLEAN SHAVEN ARMPITS YO.

He was amazing with a capital A during this song! Trying not to be controversial, he shoved the microphone at the crowd after singing “I wanna…” to finish words to his sentence

fucku
And let’s just say,
the crowd didn’t finish it with the radio-edit version
MUAHAHAHAHA

He whipped the crowd into raptures when he pumped up ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Smack That’! The songs ‘Just Dance’ and ‘What You Got’ by his proteges Lady Gaga and Colby O’Donis just proved his versatility even more when he sang that too!

It was amazing with a capital A when he began to crowd surf all the way to the very end just to get to the fans who were so faraway from the stage. Security tried to stop him, but he reprimanded them in fronta everyone!

Photobucket
SECURITY! STOP TRYING TO PULL ME DOWN!
I WANNA GET TO MUH PEOPLE!

And he did manage to, with the strong support and relentless fanbase to back him up (literally!) It was a real heart-rending sight to see him struggle, trying to avoid falling straight to the ground. When he reached his destination, he raised his arms in utmost glory above roaring cheers…. for 5 seconds.

YES YOU GUESSED IT.
HE KAPLUNKED RIGHT TO THE GROUND!

akon

Poor Akon – hope you didn’t bump your head or something! You were brilliant tonight, now if only there was an encore performance! We were all yelling our heads off for it

Halloween Zombie Crawl | Changkat Bukit Bintang

October 31, 2009 by thejessicat

roar

WISHING ALL MY DEAREST READERS
A VERY GRUESOME HALLOWEEN 2009!

Yesterday night was awesome! As Halloween will always remain my favorite festival of the year, I still wanted to make it a point to celebrate it with ghoulish hype! But this year round, I won’t be able to join any Halloween parties as I will be at the All American Rejects concert in Bukit Jalil.

me
But WHO says I still can’t celebrate Halloween on the eve?
*evil laughter*

But yeah, I know I’m a little too mild this year as compared to all the previous years of dress-ups. All because I joined in the fun here immediately after 2 events. Obviously can’t be a zombie already at these functions right 🙁 ? The Malaysia Airlines bloggers’ dinner session and a premier Spanish brand, Desigual’s outlet launch in Pavillion. Will blog about it soon! 🙂

Wil and I

Okay, back to today’s entry! Courtesy of NTV7 Breakfast Show cutie, Will Quah, we had some dinner in a swanky restaurant & bar with the others and later proceeded with a zombie crawl along the entire stretch of Changkat Bukit Bintang in our blood and tattered clothes!

deranged

hallowsAlign Center

We drank blood, attacked cars, thumped at restaurant glass doors and joined in the crowd for some drink in each and every bar we could get our pale fingers on! It was great that most of the other party people joined in the Halloween spirit and even wanted to take pictures with us

photogs

But my babe Erin, didn’t fancy the idea of getting her face or clothes smeared with bloody goo when we literally pinned her down to force her to! 🙁 (there’s always next year) 😛

gals

Aight, I gotta run! Will be having a round table session with the All American Rejects in the afternoon followed by their gig at night. So come back for me tomorrow 🙂

Video & Photo coverage | Nuffnang Asia Pacific Regional Blog Awards 23rd Oct 2009

October 26, 2009 by thejessicat

Aight this is it! Since most of you guys were anticipating more piccies from the Nuffnang Regional Blog Awards night, Imma put this up first as promised! Are you ready?
Let’s HOLLAA THE NIGHT AWAY – NUFFNANG STYLE!

kennyme
Kenny & I
with his ‘Best Entertainment Blog’ trophy!
Congrats mannn 🙂

The event was a very grand one with at the Grand Ballroom of Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore. Before it began, all the bloggers were mingling around at the red carpet and the photo wall. As we were sponsored by Pringles, there were Pringles crisps available in all 3 flavours for us to munch on!

pringles
I personally liked the original one & the green one
The spooky orange Pringles one tasted strange

As another one of the sponsors of the event would be Canon, we all had the luxury of having our photos instantly developed on the spot after being taken a picture of at the photo wall. Like these!

Oh and randomly, I initially wanted to wear a long dress to this awards dinner as it kinda reminds me of a prom night. Something grand, glamorous and classy. But then again, I’m now living 300 kilometers away from home so I didn’t have my gown with me T_T

choices
So these were the only 2 which were most appropriate

And as you can see, I chose the former. The reason was kinda because it was new and I wanna break into it for the 1st time hee 🙂 I wore the latter during Valentines already. And much thanks to Diese for doing my hair, there’s tiny plaits at the back you wont be able to see

ANYWAY.

Before I begin with what happened during the event, allow me to spam more piccies (hey it’s not everyday we doll up like this right) from the red carpet, and also including the ones taken at Link Hotel where we accommodated and the bus journey towards the event!

Anyways, the event began with a video of Nuffnang’s milestone and how it all began in the early 2007 days back in Penang woots! I too, remember their 1st Nuffnang gathering in Foodloft gurney plaza with only a handful of bloggers supporting them.

And 2+ years down the road,
Nuffnang puts together this huge event!
With Allan Wu, the host of Amazing Race as our emcee

Nuffnang takes center stage in 2009!

The video was superbly done, with co-founders Ming & Tim speaking in unison at certain jump cuts and transitions. All the Nuffies from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Phillipines had their chances on camera too, to make this video a complete and wholesome one.

nuffies
The Asia-Pac Nuffie Family!

Hence the thunderous applause and approving, proud smiles of everyone present.

Ming & Tim then began with a simple yet meaningful speech to officiate the event. I’ve shot a video of each of their speeches for you guys to relish. Do take a listen, it’s worth it 🙂

omg dunno where did Ming’s speech go. Don’t worry. Will figure that out soon.

The food then arrived to satiate our rumbling tummies. We had a simple appetizer of sour dough bread and salted butter for our tastebuds to make way for a splendid 4-course fine dining menu ahead.

And this was what we had :

The 1st course was Marinated Smoked Tuna with Feta, Herb Salad and Balsamic Olive Oil.

tunaAlign Center
It was so tender, such love!
And the chunks of cheese had this salty zing to it 🙂

Next up on the list was this Light Cream of Asparagus and Green Peas topped with a Chive Mousseline. Gone are the days where bland, clear soup ruled the tables!

asparagus
Loved every drop of it.
Smooth creamy soup has always tickled my fancies
Next up for the 3rd course, was the Rosemary Marinated Chicken Breast with Saffron Cheesy Mashed Potato in Balsamic Mediterranean Vege in Mango Coriander Salsa Sauce.

rosemarychix
Most of us at the table loved the cheesy mash!
And the chicken was really tender to the bones.

Our entertainment for the evening is from the magic-illusionist couple, JC Sum and Magic Babe Ning! The live band playing was Electrico. Woots for all of them! Oh and since we had to wait quite a bit for the dessert, ducclebears & I began to camho for the fun of it. Don’t mind us – it’s self entertainment 🙂

bme4bme3

FINALLY THE DESSERT ARRIVED! Alas, it was a tad too sweet to all tastebuds, but I loved it all the same. Hmm.. I’ll take this as a good excuse to get myself hitting the gym again!

In between meals, was of course, the video for all the nominees in each category. The categories are as follows : Best Blogshop, Best Food Blog, Best Parenting Blog, Best Geek Blog, Most Influential Blog, Best Entertainment Blog, Best Original Blog Design and lastly, the Best Regional Blog Award.

It was really a pain in the you-know-where as the boyfie and I faced lotsa complications in uploading of the videos due to incompatible video formats. But apart from that, we’re more than glad to share with you these videos I shot during the event.

Jengjengjeng, so as promised, here are the videos of all the winners of each category going up on stage accepting their trophy and giving their acceptance speech. For those of you who didn’t make for the award night, see it with your very own eyes to feel it! But for those of you who made it, relive the moment! 🙂

I’m so very sorry I didn’t get Xia Xue’s acceptance speech during the receipt of her Most Influential Blog Award & Best Original Blog Design Award. This is because the boyfie went to the Gents and brought the videocam along wtf. I hope he video-ed interesting moments in the Gents to make up for my rage of not getting to video BOTH XiaXue’s acceptance speeches! (okay love, I’m obviously kidding about your video-ing other men in the restroom wtf)

So I shot these 3 piccies instead, just before the announcement of the finale of Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards 2009! Check out Kenny giving the smirk when I took his picture. Nervous anot wei?

And the winner was XiaXue for yet another Award! She let out a loud squeal when her named was announced.

Kenny pulled a Kanye West on her during her Best Blog Design award. You obviously know what Kanye did to Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech did you? Well, our dear Kenny West ran up on stage and grabbed the microphone from XiaXue and parodied it.

Run! Run like the wind, child! 🙂

I then quickly made it in time (yay!) to video the VIDEO OF THE NIGHT. Xia Xue sweeps 3 awards, taking home the Best Regional Blog Award! Wow talk about triple time victory! Now, feast your eyes!

I’m actually quite happy she won. She’s sucha diva and a real b!tch at times but that’s what makes me love her. Oh well, you do need a lil drama in your lives dontcha? 🙂

Congrats, babe! I’m sure Mike is very proud of you
(and I know you’re proud of yourself haha!) 😛

Okay, this is a very very long post I know haha. But nemmai 🙂 I enjoyed myself hell alot and am glad to have this getaway with all my fellow blogger pals too. Thanks to Nuffnang, Pringles, Canon, Link Hotel, Pan Pacific Hotel, Exabytes and Uniquely Singapore!

And to all the rest of the nominees, congratulations for being nominated. Even if you didn’t bag home the title, chin up! You are still winners anyway for being hand-picked out of the thousands of bloggers out there. If it’s any consolation, I’d kill to be in your place 🙂

Crazy hairstyles! | A Cut Above BSC launch

October 22, 2009 by thejessicat

I arrived rather nervously, at a highway I’ve never taken to Bangsar before. Slowly but surely my car halted to a stop at a traffic light and I immediately spotted BSC, Bangsar Shopping Complex on my far left.

Courtesy of Xavier Mah, the PR & Communications Manager of the premier and leading hairstyling center and academy, A Cut Above, I was extended an invitation to their grand opening.

Prepare for some wicked and bewildering looks of the century! 🙂

sinister
Whoa!

The grand opening of today’s event marks the start of the largest A Cut Above outlet – ever! With an abundance of hairstyling space and private rooms, tools & equipments, staff and well-trained craftsmanship from A Cut Above, this new flagship store is something to look forward to!

frontpano
The front entrance

Right before the press conference, I checked out the entire interior of this new outlet. And I love it! Such a modern feel yet never leaving the key elements of a hair salon should resemble. Here’s only one part of it though, the hairwash section :

frontal

From what I noticed, they use leading brands such as Kerastase
and Loreal while servicing their clients

rear

Whilst I was still exploring, I managed to catch the preperations and last minute touch-ups in progress. Whoaa for big hairdos!

Must be for the hair show later, I reckon

I hung out for a while walking around and chatting with some familiar faces (in the media line, you’re bound to keep meeting the same people over and over again!) when I bumped into Winnie Loo. Without her, A Cut Above wouldn’t have been proudly standing here till today.

winne
She’s the queen bee yo
Founder and MD of A Cut Above!

Much respect goes to her. She started this empire from scratch when she was young and has since spread its wings to many outlets in the Klang Valley and KL City.

The press conference soon began and we were ushered to another room to have a seat. This was where she and Xavier shared the lowdown on the opening of this spanking new outlet. When I threw the question, I asked if she was still very much involved in the haircutting/hairstyling part where she 1st begun, despite climbing so high in this industry and already being on the manegerial level.

milestones
She mentioned that she was “still very hands on and even
personally cuts the hair of some of her clients upon request.”

I liked the part where she stated that despite having thousands and thousands of staff, she “will never put down her scizzors, why give the fun to someone else?” Well said, babe!

Moments later before the event officially begun, I spotted even more familiar faces and as usual, we camwhored over some drinks, a dinner buffet and yes.. Haagen Daaz ice-cream!

To grace this event, over 40 celebrities were seen mingling about as well. A notable pair being the one directly above. Anita Sarawak, the diva and her Caucasian husband, now acknowledged as Mahathir. I like how they match perfectly well at every event, from the hair colour (were both blonde previously!) to the apparel they have on their backs.

The 1st to go on stage was a duo of Dennis Lau, the amazing musician and Shafinaz Selamat, the Malaysian songbird. Together they cooked up a ravishing duet performance of both vocals and instrumental elements!

What really cracked me up during the following performance was that the singer was in her own world singing while Winnie Loo was also in her own element spraying the former’s hair!

Before we knew it, dramatic music was heard blasting from the speakers and everyone huddled by the red carpet to watch the fiery showdown of eccentric hairdos of the century.

Such creative hairdos really enthralled all of us. Coupled with tight fitting latex suits and heavy make up, this one’s perfect for a galactic battle!

Singing ‘One Night Only’ was Nikki, a former Malaysian Idol finalist. I could hardly recognize her as the last time I watched it was when I was still in high school. My my, look how much she progressed in terms of vocals and stage presense! Woots

Last but never the least, came buddy Shawn the human beatbox to crank up the after party. Who’s not to love him? He’s our small little fellow who can bellow a herd of wilderbeasts away!

Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction

The party ended with more photo taking, mingling and fooling around. I had a great time at the event and well, it was a blast! From the food, the warm company, the performances and everything… kudos to A Cut Above!

congrats

You’ll see me back here very soon, Imma dye back my red streaks of hair. It’s time for a touch up! Oh but.. um.. not.. like this afro though!
