ROARRRRRRR 🙂 I just LOVE how body art perpetuates in all areas!
Gone are the days where body art only restricts us to draw Buncho or Acrylic paints on our faces during a circus carnival. Tattoos might’ve been something to frown upon by the elders back in the days but oh no, not anymore – not in this era.
You see many urbanites sporting artsy-fartsy tatts and yes, even grizzly looking ones on almost all areas of the body namely the arms, calves, shoulder blades, back, belly, ears, neck, wrist and the list goes on. But have you actually seen one :
ON SOMEONE’S SCALP?
Now you will. BECAUSE IMMA SHOW YOU THAT IT’S POSSIBLE.
Courtesy of Xavier Mah, PR Manager of A Cut Above, I was extended an invitation to attend Malaysia’s Largest Hair Tattoo Competition Finals 2009 held in Zouk KL. Being an avid fan of tattoos, body art and body mods myself, I was looking forward to it all week! 🙂
Thanks dude! 🙂
So yeah, we made our way to the VIP area of Zouk’s mainroom and waited for the event to begin. It kickstarted with 2 emcees which looked as thought they came out from the netherworld, complete with dreadlocks, doning black from top to toe and with kohl liners too.
We were kinda the only few peeps who weren’t wearing black
In fact, this event had THE MOST amount of guests wearing black that I have ever saw. Ya know in Malaysia, hair stylists or people in this in hair industry always seem to have a thing for black. Everyone looked like groupies of My Chemical Romance! 🙂
Mr. Don Seale of Wahl Far East gave his speach on why Wahl products should only be used for fine and precise hair tattooing
The emcees then introduced a special guest and one of the judges for this Hair Tattoo Competition up the stage. Mac is a world reknowned hair tattooist all the way from Japan!
I reckon that “Mac” could be a short name from his looooooong Japanese name 🙂
Charity is always such a beautiful thing. To give and donate to others with a kind heart gives a sense of a fulfilling wonder back to you. This whole event was actually a joint collaboration between Hair For You For Me (H4ufme) Malaysia and Lions Club of Bukit Tengku, supported by their main sponsor Wahl.
All the proceeds of this charitable event goes to 5 designated beneficiaries Disabled Homes, Deaf Homes, Childrens’ Homes and Kidney Failure Patients. Count me in whenever there’s charity involved! 🙂
Here’s Mac demonstrating a Phoenix + Dragon hair tattoo
It was soon time for the finalists to come up on stage to showcase their fine works of tattoo art. The stage was very oddly shaped so I couldn’t get to shoot ALL of the contestants but here’s a few though. Let’s take a look at some of them!
I have my personal favorites, what’s yours?
This one was a fusion! Reggae colors and dreadlocks on top
The flaming skull totally reminded me of Hot Wheels!
Bloody cool Hellboy designs Not to mention, the hair tattooist was really cute too with hair ala dragonball character
THE NEXT ONE TOTALLY WOWED ME
My personal favorite 🙂 Look closer, you’ll see facial features, complete with eyelashes and mascara
AND SINCE it’s my favorite, here’s another angle of them 🙂
Blingblings on the sideburns yo!
More! Spot Spiderman All of them vying to win the overall tital
When all the contestants finished doing their thang on stage with a few intervals of mysterious dance shows of dancers clad fully in a black translucent netting by A Cut Above, it was time for THE WALK of fame.
She was the only female model being hair tattooed!
My booties were beginning to kill me. So I finally sat down after a few hours standing. When each and every finalist and their models were done with the catwalks,it was time to reveal the winner!
But while waiting, how can I not camwhore with the peeps around me ey?
Mac the (cute) Hair Tatoo Artist from Japan and I
And of course Xavier and Erin who were sitting beside me 🙂
OKAY NOW LEMME ANNOUNCE THE TOP 3!
Winner
R5. Steve Chong Wai Fatt + His striking hellboy creation
1st Runner Up
R2. Heacky Cheach Yeu Hoe + His multi-coloured skull creation
2nd Runner Up
R6. Peter Pang Yong Chang + His life facial features creation
(He also bagged Most Talented Artist Award!)
Which was your fave anyhow? Mine is still THE FACE! 🙂 So abstract and Aquarius-like
Wheeeeee! Finally have the time to sit down and blog. Can’t believe I was in the car for 70% of my entire day today. Delivering CDs of event photos to a few clients and so on. Oh and it doesn’t help that I got lost in Cheras! Argh.
Anyway FML cases aside, Imma share with you my 2nd day of my travel escapade to Sabah! 1st day – [here]
Before I continue, I would like to acknowledge my sponsors Mayflower Holidays and Discovery Travel River Lodge. Without them, I wouldn’t have been thrown out to venture the unknown and this trip wouldn’t be made possible!
The day began with my waking up early in the morning – I’m so not a morning person!
My guest and good friend Jacque and I quickly got up and headed towards the main lobby of the lodge to have our breakfast. Yummy! It was prepared ala American breakfast set.
We set out for our morning river cruise, to spot the early birds and other wildlife on the speedboat again with our lifeguard Gary Solacito. This time round, we took the Teneggang Creek detour
And managed to see a Great Egret and the Oriental Pied Hornbill! They were flying really swiftly and looked really regal perched up high above. Sorry, it was incredibly faaaaaarrrr and impossible to catch them in a solitary position so this is (unfortunately) the only picture of the latter yeah.
So much for bird spotting! Hee.
Anyway, we kept seeing so many birds and some of them were really huge! Whoa I wonder what they feed on in the wild. Hmm… that’s not all. Here’s some really beautiful flower buds and full-bloomed flowers :
before
after!
The cruise along Teneggang Creek took some time and we finally arrived at another detour to the Ox-Bow Lake. Check out the “entrance” to it!
Looks like 2 pillars guarding or marking the territory
And here we are!
As we kept going deeper and deeper into the depths of the lake, we stopped by something that really is a wonder in the wild. It’s really pretty, no? The lake was almost crystal clear and freezing cold! Yeah I dipped my finger inside for the fun of it 🙂
Such a scenic view!
We continued cruising the creek and lake for more flora and fauna. Hmm truthfully, I never regretted setting off so early in the morning. Should we have not, we wouldn’t have managed to see certain animals which are only active in the morning as well as the fresh morning dew on the lush greeneries.
Couldn’t resist shooting the lil spider!
Such beauty should be shared! 🙂
As we c ontinued the cruise, Gary Solacito suggested that we go jungle trekking in the mangrove. I was initially very interested but alas, he mentioned that our shoes weren’t suitable to withstand the insanely thick mud and if we did go ahead, we would have to leave Sabah with one pair of shoes less.
AND I WASN’T GONNA SACRIFICE MY PAIR OF CROCS! Hee.
To make up for it, Gary and our speedboat captain then stopped by the river bank and dropped us off at a slightly-less-muddy ground to check out some insects and other creepy-crawlies.
Yes, creepy-crawlie Exhibit A.
I tell you, I reckon I’ve woken up the entire Borneo rainforest with my loud shrieks of revolt when I volunteered to place that wriggling leech on my hand.
God knows how hard I had to hold a straight face It was literally inching its way all over my arm! Dammit hahaha 🙂
Then again – an experience well endured. First was the giant roaches now the leeches! What next? LOL. Anyhoozers, after a few hours out in the early morning, we decided to head back to the lodge as it was beginning to get very sunny.
Teenaged boys catching fish for a living Man you should see their well sculpted bodies at such a young age! Totally beats our overweight Michellin young kids here in the city
Here’s one very interesting catch I spotted! It’s a silverish looking prawn with extremely pink eyes! No need for coloured contact lenses yo. But ermm.. it looks really angry in the picture.
Like, GTFO kinda angry. Okay prawn, I shall leave you in your crummy old cage in peace.
Ahhhh home as last! When our speedboat arrived at the makeshift jetty to our lodge, we jumped off, thanked Gary & the captain and made a dash to our rooms for a much needed rest – and more sun block lotion!
Doesn’t our cabin look really cosy here? It is just as comfy inside too 🙂
Okay, I gotta admit. I didn’t exactly get much sleep. Like, who on earth can still sleep after being out for almost 5 hours exploring the wilderness in the morning sun? Totally gets your adreanalin going bonkers already!
So I took more pichas for you! Wheeee This is the lovely view from our cabin balcony
After we slapped on some mozzie repellant (thanks Jacque dearie!) and sunblock, it was time for lunch already. Wonder what Chef M made for us today?
Simple yet mad-tasty! Technically, if you’re hungry EVERYTHING tastes amazing. Human are psychotic like that 🙂
After lunch, I spent some time with the adorable tabby cats around the cabin. Both of them were extremely tame! I wonder if they have names but I’m just gonna call them Mufasa and Aura.
Don’t ask me why I named them so, because if I named them Mickey and Minnie you would ask the same thing 😛
Meet MY PETS for the day!
I was madly in love with these beautiful yet tame felines. Jacque can totally vouch for that. I was practically sprawled all over the wooden flooring just to play, romp and take pictures with them.
Now, it’s quite obvious why I’d get a black cat tattoo-ed on my shoulder blade ey? I adore cats. And even that is an understatement.
But they don’t adore me as much. Se e? They fell asleep in my arms. 🙁
But too bad, I don’t need reciprocal love from cats! Muahahahaha so here’s more of these meows. Just because I love them so.
I bet right now mom will already be puking her gall out She hates cates LOL
One day mom, just one day Imma have 9 cats and you’re still gonna have to live with me! ^_____^ I know you love meeeee. Kakakaka
Next on our itinerary was mountain biking! Dammit, I don’t even remember the last time I rode a bike. Oh wait scratch that, I think I was chased by stray dogs the last time I did. Gahh.
THIS TIME AROUND I WAS CHASED BY A CHILD
Ohmy so terrified Im shaking in my shoes. -_-
Okay mebbe kids ain’t so bad after all. Provided they don’t wail or whine nor crap in their pants and make a huge scene after that. They are actually adorable – and fast learners! *cough*
I TAUGHT THEM THIS! WOOTS ROCK ON KIDDOS m/
We then went exploring past the main trunk road and riding all the way towards another village altogether. Needless to say, I almost fell off the bike countless times so yeah.
Spotted a colony!
But it was a long endurance mountain bike ride as certain parts of the roads have a very steep inclination so lets work out those thigh muscles yo! We rode past farms, plantations, deers (yes I swear I spotted one walking aimlessly by the roadside), cemeteries, wooden houses, brick houses, construction sites, schools and eventually pulled over by the river.
Hand crafted toys are such fun too! In your face, Toys R’ Us
With the locals
I was very fascinated by the likes of the children diving in one by one into the river, completely fearless of the murky waters deep down below and the existance of crocodiles or so I’ve heard.
No this is not a picture of me robbing the child of his candy
Did I mention that the logs and planks laid to float were extremely mossy and slippery? Better watch your step lest you fall straight into the river!
This was the last picha taken before I slipped right into the river! Arghh I was muddy all the way home 🙁
Back at the cabin, we took our showers and chit-chatted. I soon set out to lie in the middle of the grassy riverbanks admist the glowing rays of the evening sunset. Who could miss that? I certainly never would.
Evening sunlight is love
Yup, I began frolicking in the grass enjoying the breezy atmosphere of Borneo. Never had sucha relaxing evening in the city. This is just mad awesome here in Sukau Village
For a second there, I think I fell asleep right in the middle of the grassy field. I suppose if we did that here in the city, it would be far too dangerous. Soon, the sun began to set and I did some photography by the makeshift jetty with a very hunky young English gentleman which Jaque and I thought was reeeeeeeeelly cute!
Yes, the picturesque scene of the evening No pichas of the dude! 😛
Dinner buffer was served and the batch of tourists from the United Kingdom joined us for the meal. We made friends and I got to know that they were on a 3 week trip around Malaysia. Pretty cool 🙂 Makes me think of my bff there in UK! Miss her much.
M then cleared up the tables after dinner just before I took a picture 🙂
Somehow, Jacque was yearning to go fishing all afternoon. I never really took the interest… until, nightfall. *cough cough*
I wonder why. HAHA!
Stay tuned for Episode 3 the finale! Hope you’ve enjoyed Sabah today with meeee
Just got back from an extremely short trip to Penang for an appointment with Hard Rock Hotel’s Communication Manager Elisa Saw, over lunch. I had a Salmon Steak and Chocolate Ice Blended – which were my top faves in Hard Rock Cafe!
Can’t believe she only had Wild Mushroom Soup and a bowl of French Fries, like seriously babe, that’s all? Coolios. She kept yammering about needing to go on a diet, well the only person that needs dieting is certainly not her! It’s me LOL 🙂
Thanks for the awesome meal yo! Cheers
Anyway, remember the BRANDs Generasi Hebat launch I attended with Jaclyn and Cheesie [here]? Well the video is finally out for us to see!
After seeing the vibrant, fresh and talented ambassadors in the flesh, I was more keen than ever to watch the entire MTV video of it! Once again ,they are Hafiz, Aril, Akim, Black and Choo Hou Ren who were performing on stage during that launch!
Happy to share it with you guys 🙂
It’s in Malay and Mandarin – love how it all jives so well together.Oh and, I simply adore Hou Ren’s popping, locking and dropping moves! Smooth criminal yo, especially with his Mandarin rap verses. Totally owns! 🙂
Heyyy did you also notice that the dudes in the video has something in common? No it’s not their gender duh, it’s THE GREEN TIE which I blogged about [here] !
So you know what to do if you’ve read my blogpost on The Green Tie. You’re just a Green Tie competition away from a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. For more info and to check out their Facebook App, clickety click [here]
Anyway folks, I’m back in KayElle already and I’m ready to rumble Heading to a shoot for Martell for tonight. BRB! 🙂
I’m sure all of you are pretty familiar with Pizza Hut, it’s been around for decades. If you didn’t know, Pizza Hut is the biggest pizza restaurant chain in the country with over 200 outlets offering dine-in, takeaway, pick-up, delivery and online ordering services!
Back when I was growing up, there was a Pizza Hut store just opposite my place of residence where I’d always walk over to grab some lunch/dinner.
The new Crunchy Cheesy Bites pizza comes baked with triple cheese!
So needless to say, I was ecstatic when my usual foodies and I were all extended an invitation to try out their latest pizza products which was just launched in the market for public consuming. Something that gives pizza lovers a unique crunchy and cheesy eating experience all at the same time.
We began with some light appetizers, and I ordered some Chocolate Ice Blended and some soup and Garlic Bread. Love that light buttery taste topped off with sesame seeds! 🙂
And some calamari rings too Hee look! I stacked them up
It was much higher, I would’ve shown you if only we didn’t gulp them all down so fast!
Another thingI can distinctively remember about Pizza Hut is not only their pizza but their Deli Wings too! Dear ol’ Uncle Mike would always order a dozen each time the fammy eats together at pizza hut. Smoked chicken wings in aromatic spices, who could resist?
We would finish a dozen under 5 minutes It really is that good.
The newest addition to the menu would be a variant of the Deli Chicken Wings above. It also comes in 2 flavours! The Honey BBQ Wings and the Sweet Chilli Wings.
I strongly recommend this one! So mad-awesomely good I tell ya
Made crunchier, smaller and bite-sized for easier consumption (is it a sheer coincidence with the bite-sized Crunchy Cheesy Bites pizza they launched too?). Just last week, I brought my fammy to Pizza Hut for a triple joint birthday celebration and I ordered 2 plates of these. They loved it just like I did!
Looksextremely spicy but trust me, if I can handle it, you can! (I’m known for my low tolerance in spicy food)
Amongst the new things which I haven’t tried yet is also this
Thai Tuna Roll
If you fancy something light, then this is just right for you. It is basically tuna with Thai flavours, wrapped in this pita-like skin. Yumm!
YES I KNOW YOU’RE WAITING FOR THE CRUNCHY CHEESY BITES PIZZA BUT WAIT! 🙂
Nyahaha. We also had this, a regular pan pizza. Crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside! Baked to golden perfection on their signature pan. I’m sure the Pizza Hut junkies out there knows this pizza inside out!
But how many of you know THIS pizza inside out too?
It is really thin yet so crispy – just like cracker biscuits with toppings! This thin, crunchy crust is baked really finely so you can taste more of your favorite toppings. I liked it when they slice the entire round pizza to you into squares
For more people to share the pizza! The more the merrier
THE BEST IS FINALLY HERE!
The all new Crunchy Cheesy Bites pizza, unlike normal pizzas! The regular ones have a smooth round crust right? Well, this new pizza is cut around the edges, creating bite-size pieces all around its crust.
The cornflakes makes them crunchy on the outside and the cheese soft in the inside, giving the pizza its unique crunchy-cheesy eating experience. To add to this innovative delight is a scrumptious bed of eight tempura prawns.
The prawns were so tender omg! I feel like just robbing the pizza of its prawns and leaving the bare pizza to everyone else =P
These pieces are filled with crunchy cornflakes and stuffed with an exquisite blend of three of the world’s most famous cheeses – Mozzarella, Parmesan and Cheddar.
This is such love!
Lawrence Ding, the big shot and top guy of Pizza Hut and his team Winston, Moon, Lee Sim, Sook Yee and a few others was actually acompanying us throughout our amazing Pizza Hut experience.
Lawrence and I
He’s such a down-to-earth and warm friendly person despite being in sucha unreachable position at the Pizza Hut food chain! He was extremely accomodating to all of us too 🙂
Oh did you notice the LCD flat screen TV behind us? Well, he specially had it placed there for us to show us their new TV advertisement of this Crunchy Cheesy Bites. We all loved it! It’s so novel and funny too. Technically, it involves people, pizza and ground-shaking earthquakes!
Okay no more. Hush hush! Watch it yourselves 🙂
As the Crunchy Cheesy Bites pizza’s lil bite sized pieces were made with 3 types of cheese, like I mentioned earlier – Cheddar, Mozarella and Parmesan! Lawrence specially requested his staff to bring out the sticks of cheese to show us how it looks like before being oven-baked.
Okay, I pulled and pulled and pulled But it’s so durable! The power of cheese yo
But that wasn’t all. After we were extremely stuffed to our throats with the delightful new pizza, there was still more of the all time favorite dishes served to us! It’s pasta perfetto babeh!
Meatball Bolognaise and Creamy Carbonara for us all!
The Cheese Baked Meatballs was really good too. It reminded me of Potato Au Gratin 🙂
After this amazing dinner feast at the chosen location of Pizza Hut, Maju Junction Mall, I daresay that it was my best Pizza Hut experience ever!
Now be good and grab your Crunchy Cheesy Bites! It’s already out 🙂
What’s scary? No, it’s not how you look in the morning
What’s big, green and scary? No it’s not the Incredible Hulk
What’s big, green, scary and local? We’re about to find out!
Last weekend, I was invited to The Palace @ Sheraton Imperial Hotel KL for a special screening of Dimensions TVC – A joint effort by Maxis and Astro, Malaysia’s 1st made for mobile science-fiction series.
The event began with a speech by T. Kugan and Eric Foo, to introduce to us, the media and consumers, about what the entire plot is about and how to go about watching it.
11 Episodes of Dimension altogether created exclusively for 3G and online platforms.
Soon, Episode 1 of Dimensions premiered to spark the suspense within us. Whoa, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed! Given that the local film industry is kinda sullen, the production crew of Dimensions did a pretty good job.
I like the cinematography and effects involved in the making of this sci-fi series. Well, it’s definitely something I look forward to as I can totally relate to the settings of the location and cast. Wheee! Because this sci-fi thriller is set in the heart of KL which reinvents the myths and legends of our city rainforest and ancient spirits of animist tales.
Now that’s some awesome-pawsome stuff! 🙂
Here’s the plot I find worth sharing!
A series of mysterious outbreaks is sweeping through KL.
Entire shopping malls struck blind, multiple incidents of group hysteria, heart attacks en masse, an entire secondary school comatose. The entire medical comunity is at a loss for the cause, except for one doctor.
Convinced there is a correlation, she goes in search of the truth, discovering a group of unique individuals with extraordinary powers.
With the appearance of an enigmatic young girl and 2 dark characters on the hunt, an epic adventure beckons, with millions of lives at stake.
Will that curious and determined doctor uncover the truth and save the nation from this widespread epidemic? Or will these dark forces ultimately find what they are looking for and plunge the world into chaos?
Our popular local actor Jehan Miskin stars as this metrosexual malay male with abnormal agility. Oh and *psst I think Rufus starred by justin chan is pretty cute! He plays the short geeky young chinese male by the way.
Nom nom time!
Right after the screening, activation stations were then set-up for anyone who is registered with iPhone 3G to watch anytime they want. And it was time for dinner! In other words, camwhore time wheeeee~
Jon from Fleishman-Hillard Thanks for the invite dude! (Esther was outside at the registration table)
love them heaps! fab people /big hugs
Buddy Joe who gave me a loooong talk about my grandpa’s demise Thanks for so much consoling ya 🙂
Shouters unite!
Bumped into Angelene, my former classmate in college KDU Mass Commers FTW! (because we’re just better) =P
Colors vs. white the 4 of us could stand for a laundry detergent ad
I cannot believe I bumped into you! Long lost friend from Penang
Soon after, it was time for some lucky draws! Oh for the record I’m NEVER lucky in Lucky Draws. Arghh. 2 people won an iPhone 3GS just like that, including a friend of mine, Xiang. Gosh. Jealous over the top dot com dot info. >__<
That’s him in a black shirt showing off his new box /boxes Xiang with congrats 😛
Bumped into Bo from Unseen TV in the carpark just before Tocky and I rushed of for another event. His hair is just mad awesome, no? hohoho! Ps. I like Unseen TV because they NEVER censor curses and swears alike. Woots! 🙂
OH AND ONE MORE THING :
And the war between iPhone 3G vs. Blackberry never dies!
End of story. But I won’t be able to sleep without saying this
