Tales of my Aussieguest and I : all things Malaysian… LAH!

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Pretty damn sure you would've known how occupied I was the past week with my lovely guest from Australia.

If you follow me on Twitter or subscribed to my Facebook updates, I've posted up heaps throughout her stay!

I hosted my Aussie buddy on her trip to Malaysia and decided that I only yearn to achieve one goal.

To be the best host ever of all things Malaysian. I wanted to share our culture, people, food, nightlife, shopping, hanging out, nature with her and condense everything Malaysian lifestyle was all about

- into a single, one week!

Picked her up as she arrived! :D :D

I documented our (mis)adventures all documented on Twitter with the hashtag #aussieguest :

Brought her for a late lunch-tea time sesh at Secret Recipe to try our famous signature cheesecakes.

We shared a Creme Brulee Cheesecake & a Dark White Chocolate Cheesecake. Absolutely loved it!

Brought her back to my humble abode 13 stories above the ground in the cosy & busy suburb of Damansara

Rested for a bit and it's out the door for a shisha session!

Shisha has been deeply intergrated into the Malaysian lifestyle now – it's everywhere!

Another shisha sesh elsewhere!

Took her for the famous Satay Kajang! It's grilled/barbequed meat on skewers with yummy peanut sauce!

There were all kinds; we ordered all kinds! Chicken, beef, mutton, fish and duck

Rabbit wasn't available today - yes, I said rabbit.

No need to double take

Brought my lovely Aussie guest to experience another Malaysian way of life – PASAR MALAM!!!

Pasar Malam (night markets) come in abundance here. It boasts heaps of food, trinkets, clothes, gadgets, accessories, shoes – you name it, they've got it!

Best part is, everything is so cheap!

Brought her to try a Chinese-Malaysian favorite, known as Lok Lok

… she never looked back ever since then. Love at first sight!!

Told ya it's yummy! :) :)

Can't really explain what it is, something like cut-up food (anything!) on a skewer and then you boil it yourself then dip it in a variety of sauces. Pretty healthy too, if you ask me :D

Homehomehome in my cosy room :D Wheeee

Carly somehow loved tormenting me with cotton candy (of which she calls fairy floss)

We headed to Singapore for a roadtrip with my buddies

Why? Because we were going to attend the biggest beach rave-party of the year – ZOUK OUT 2011

(more of that soon!)

Had some nommies at Esplanade, Singapore

Brought her to sight-see around Esplanade and its pretty sights, a lightshow and well-lit buildings across the water! When I last went to Singapore before my stint in Australia, Marina Bay Sands hotel wasn't exactly quite open yet.

So this is technically my first time here too!

Marina Bay Sands hotel

From a friendly local host, I suddenly warped into an over-enthusiastic tourist

Yes thank you I know I'm being all touristy

Moar photos with my chicas!

The 5 of us headed to a Chinese Dim Sum outlet for late dinner/supper

Geez I look lika typical Asian here; with chopsticks and whatnot

Breaktime & breathers at Orchard Road

Public transport-ing it back home!

I'm so not used to public transport as I drive all the time!

More public transport-ing the very next morning!

Yeah, don't we look like over-zealous tourists waiting to excavate the city? :D :D

Writing our lovenotes & well-wishes for 2012

Some little cute tradition where the balloons will be placed into the sea & let it float away

Brought this foreigner to something all foreigners hate.

Is it REALLY just a stereotype?

Why on earth do yall hate durians when it's sucha soft, creamy and flavourful fruit?

Ya'll say it's the smell. But really… WHAT SMELL? The only way to get rid of the "smell", is to eat it :D

Ohhhh so delicious and creamy! It's like eating creme brulee or ice-cream

Apart from bringing her to Singapore, I also brought her along to a Christmas party that my clan and I have been planning for a few weeks! It's a houseparty + Christmas potluck + BYO drinks and MORE ;) ;)

Let the good times roll!

Christmas photo credits to housie Edwin!

We did some more touristy stuff like taking her to Petaling Street to eat local hawker food!

Some of which, I hardly eat myself. But here they are…

KL Hokkien Mee and Beef Tripe Noodles

Yes. Beef tripe. The 1st half of the cow's stomach

Teehee! Don't kill me, babe!

All I wanted was to have you remember at least ONE exotic food/animal organ you ate whilst in Asia :P

More outings!

Ready to rumble?

Heading off to the city again – this time, to Pavillion Kuala Lumpur along Starhill

Thanks housie Edwin for all the photos taken tonight at Starhill! :)

Welcome to Bukit Bintang (Starhill)

The city never sleeps

One of our largest & most prestigious malls – Pavillion KL

Christmas time!

Coincidentally, there was this United Buddy Bears campaign going on along the streets of Pavillion.

Every single country and nation acknowledged by the United Nations will have their own version of a bear – fully designed by a national of whatever country they represent – portraying their culture or their identity.

There were so many; couldn't take all! Here are a few which I took an instant liking towards

The two main Western capitalists & movers of the world, United Kingdom and the United States of America

I'm in love with all things Egyptian

My wrist tattoo of the Eye of Horus testifies that!

Here's the Greece bear which bears Goddess Athena's name!

My other tattoo along my ribcage, are ancient Greek quotes in scriptures

Israel bear!

But of course, the country which I was born and bred in – MALAYSIA!!!!!

Carly found her Australian bear too!

See the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge motif in yellow?

Shisha and mamak sesh at NZ Cafe right beneath the Petronas Twin Towers

Malaysian food omnomnom

Wondering what this is?

One of my mamak faves – Roti Tisu

Malaysia loves you Carly! :)

You assimilate so well with us… and your Malaysian slang is pretty good hahaha!

So technically that sorta sums up what we were up to within the week – albeit a very summarized version!

If given more time, I could've shown her so much more :D

It's time to play host again. My 2 new Aussieguests

Allyce & Lauren has just arrived Malaysia yesterday

Three cheers for Round 2!

Thanks for coming to Malaysia, Carly. T'was a pleasure hosting & showing you the very best of Malaysian lifestyle!

It's my 1st time playing host; here's to hoping I did a good job teehee!

Oh and….. your best friend says goodbye :P

Drinks, fashion and tapas atop the city skyline! A Kronenbourg L’aperitif French affair

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Remember this blogpost and contest which I ran a few weeks back?

As one of the official bloggers for Kronenbourg 1664's L'aperitif Fashion, I shared the launch of Kronenbourg in Malaysia in that blogpost as well as the contest whereby one lucky reader wins 2 invitations to the French fashion event at The View.

Fast Forward- Ta-da!!

Whisked off to The View at G-Tower

I love this place. It's an open-aired bar up 28 stories in the air with a magnificent view of the city

Glad that Kronenbourg chose this place as it is sophisticated, classy and jives well with what their event is about!

Cheers, Kronenbourg!

Oooh the glorious Petronas Twin Towers in the background :D :D

This time round, I brought along a guest with me to the event.

Meet my plus one for the night. my housie Pamela :)

She's actually my childhood friend-turned-housie :)

'Cept the fact that we hardly (if at all) ever talk in high school lol

Housie Pam and I at the L'aperitif photowall :)

Showed the way in by the usherettes

Even more elaborately dressed usherettes

Kronenbourg 1664 in their various packaging

Bar counter

Pam and I enjoying our Kronenbourg 1664 :D

Catching up with some friends Dennis & Fay

With my fellow ex-redhead, Linora :)

With Fateh whom I met at a barbeque beach party some months back

(My weird expression is a result of an expression refraining from pulling an

even weirder expression as Mike tried to rob me of my fedora!;(

Funtimes and silly moments never stop with Kronenbourg ;)

Before we knew it, the event kick-started with a warm welcome by the MC and speeches by Carlsberg Managing Director Soren Ravn & world renowned luxury label designer Dato' Professor Jimmy Choo

Josiah Mizukami was the MC for the night :)

Models unveiling the design by Gallo by Thian

Introducing the design of the Kronenbourg bottle

by the official designer of L'aperitif fashion Teresa Thian

Closer look at it :)

Sucha sleek and chic design for a French beer bottle methinks

The VIPs and celebrities on stage making their special appearance at the event

A design from Gallo by Thian in the display window

We media were then ushered to a private zone whereby the sneak preview of Gallo by Thian's live mannequin show was held. It features her Spring & Summer collection for 2012!

Ssssoooo cuuute! They were *actually* mimicking a real gardening routine

The first of its kind and inspired by Kronenbourg 1664's French Art of Pleasure, L'aperitif Fashion was launched with the unveiling of Gallo by Thian's concept designs by lead designer, Theresa Thian :)

Well-known for her chic, feminine and elegant designs, the design combines vintage with elegance; reflecting French sophistication. A bold fashuon statement that is seductively French infused with Malaysian elements

Theresa Thian and her models showcasing the designs

LOL candid photo of me snapping photos of the fashion show (while still drinking Kronenbourg LOL)

and Josiah grinning in the background

The VIPs, Theresa Thian, the models and the fashion mentors & icons of Kronenbourg's L'aperitif fashion

Watched the lovely and adorable live mannequin show, mingled with the crowd and sipped on more Kronenbourg draught. Too fun! Glad I bumped into many familiar faces too :)

International model Amber Chia of GUESS fame and I

Dato' Professor Jimmy Choo OBE (Order of the British Empire) and I

Just like my fellow Malaysians, I'm so proud of Dato' Jimmy, you have no idea!

Malaysian-born shoe designer hailing from Penang Island (hello, homeboy!) of Jimmy Choo couture fame – EST 1996 – is now based in London running his self-named luxurious designer shoe label, Jimmy Choo.

He has hand-crafted shoes to high-profile clientele such as the late Princess Diana and red-carpet celebrities across the globe. One shoe would cost at least RM3500 in my currency! To date, he has 140 stores in 32 countries worldwide.

True story, bro

Haha enough gloating about how amazing he is!

Kronenbourg certainly made the right choice in appointing him as the mentor in the L'aperitif Fashion.

Way to go!

So much excitement :D

And now it's time to chill by the balcony over some (more) drinkies and good food

Pam and I by the glass balcony

TAKE ONE

TAKE TWO

TAKE THREE

Couldn't decide which one was better :D

Aaaaaaaaanyway, it was free-flow for a quite a number of hours so we just couldn't stop sipping the goodness of Kronenbourg. Pam and I both liked the Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc better due to its sweet, cidery after-taste!

The Blanc version is the one on the left

But my guy friends prefer the original Kronenbourg 1664

Perfect way to unwind on a Thursday night

Amazing free-flow of draught & bottled Kronenbourg, fashionable crowd, tapas food, picturesque sky-high bar, so much catching up and camwhoring with my friends & fellow partygoers :)

Let the pictures speak for themselves!

Candid shot of Fay and I

LOL an obviously tipsy Mikey

With Charles and housie Pam

With Soren, Josiah and housie Pam

With Jess of whom I went with on my trip to Tioman Island last year

With housie Pam and Michelle

With Tim! Putcha drinks up!

With Josh and housie Pam

My two friends with amazing musical talents  So proud of yall!

Dennis (above) wickedly plays the violin while Shawn (below) beatboxes epicly.

Together, they steal the hearts' of the crowd

With American-Latin DJ Dean Richards, who brings us tracks of HedKandi and Defected in the House

He has continued making waves in the dubstep scene and house tracks locally too

Await an exclusive interview, dear readers! ;)

Anyway, housie Pam and I stayed at The View till past midnight. Kronenbourg's definitely had it going

So much going around to leave so early just yet, hey?

Totally unrelated photograph but this beer rack in spirals at The View bar caught my eye

Oh before I forget, I'd like to thank photographers Jaz Khai (the unwatermarked photos belongs to him), Vince Khoo and Feroze Roman for their photographs.

Thankew for the lovely photos :) I didn't bring my DSLR to the event due to some unforseen circumstances :(

Thank you Kronenbourg, for a wonderful Thursday night out

That being said, congratulations on a successful L'aperitif Fashion launch in Malaysia!

Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Label is back in town – with a sexy, exotic Brazilian twist!

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

All things bold, stylish & delivered in black can only be epitomized with the Black Circuit Label series of exclusive parties. Yupyup, it's THAT amazing and more.

Think classy partying with fellow invited guests (money-can't-buy-passes!), free-flow of delicious Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch whiskey and its cocktails, tapas food served to all & a stellar selection of entertainment line-up.

Jason and I at the entrance :D

Two redheads in the house! ;)

Bumped into Linora and was surprised she dyed her hair red too!

There were heaps of mighty fine rides – owned by the rich & famous –  parked at the jockey area.

T'was all nicely in line as though partaking in an exhibition of sleek automobiles!

The official car for the event – a sexxxy Porsche Cayenne!

There was a whiskey appreciation booth as well.

So… how do you appreciate whiskey?

Sip it slowly , let it stay in your mouth for a bit and savour it.

Bumped into Kevin at the entrance! :D

Had a very lovely official photograph by the photowall

(ignore random person on the right)

Walked into KL Live where the party has already started.

The stage was elaborately set-up and decorated with 2 regal lines of Johnnie Walker Black Label

Photos can't do it justice!

When I arrived, Mr. Gin had already begun playing.

He was good, got the party started pretty well!

But his music just ain't my kinda thing – R&B, hiphop and AT40 mainstream stuff

Chilled by the bar and indulged in Johnnie Walker's trio of signature cocktails

My favorite was the one named 'Black Circuit'. The Mojito one wasn't too bad, hey!

Had the cocktails alongside the bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label

Brought some of them back to the table with me where my buddies are

Thanks for the photo, Radius!

Although it is beyond me why he would turn the photo monochrome

LOL okay back to colours! :D

Performances soon began, there was a fire-twirling crew in the house!

Keep it flaming high guys!

Wooots!

We were entertained with a Brazilian samba dance too!

Heaps of Belly Dancers and super-flexible dancers wootwoot!

What's a party without bumping into your friends from everywhere? :)

At 11pm, t'was time for the next DJ of the night!

It was DJ Von Kiss hailing all the way from the US of A :)

I immediately took a liking for her when I saw her Skrillex-quarter-shaven head

Had the feeling she was gonna drop some wicked basslines throughout her 2 hour set

And I was right!

First time I see a group of dancers dancing to electronic music!

Not bad! They sure know how to rave

DJ Von Kiss played most of my favorite EDM tracks, electro-house-dubstep ones ranging from Steve Aoki, Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, UKF, Benny Benassi, Laidback Luke and more!

My rave kaki's and I had a ball of a time. You go, gurl!

Then came the Brazilian belly dancers again

Our local percussionists were thumping away as the dancers shook what their mama gave them hard!

They even mingled amongst the crowd and lured some of the partygoers on stage to samba away with them!

Bumped into some former colleagues & friends from the industry as well! :)

Ken Wei and I!

Ben and I! :)

Bervin and I :D

Flanked by Vince and Ash ;)

Don't stop belly dancing yaw!

There was such a huge camaraderie on stage! It was fascinating to watch :D

The entire stage was filled with dancing, music and so much hype!

But the star of the night was yet to make his way to the decks….

Clinton Sparks – I swear he is arguably one of the best performers I have *ever* seen LIVE

Why? Because he is unlike any other.

Never have I ever seen a DJ like him before. He spins, he scratches, he announces, he raps, he runs to the front of the stage and dances, he hypes up the crowd with his incredibly energetic ways, runs back to the DJ decks and drops an insane track, wickedly remixes a few versatile tracks from various genres and eras, jumps around, invites the crowd to the decks & stage and so much more which I really can't describe unless you watch him LIVE yourself.

Clinton Sparks is truly a performer, a talented DJ and an excellent entertainer all in one.

We were all amazed by his flawless performance!

And he grabbed my hand & shook it too! :D :D :D *swoons*

Even more partying as all the performers shared one stage to perform their expertise

Haha our local percussionists and the belly dancers really made me fell like there was indeed a melting pot of cultures on stage! Where Brazilian samba-belly-dance culture meets Malaysian kompang drummers!

It was indeed a sight to see

Shower of confetti! :D :D

As I left at 4AM, I spotted this booth.

Impressive! Looks like Johnnie Walkers really take their Never Drink and Drive policy seriously.

They provided heaps of mineral water alongside the breathalyzer test

Drunk driving is an absolute no-no!

Couldn't help taking another piccie of Johnnie Walker's Porsche Cayenne!

And yet again, Johnnie Walker Black Label proves an excellent indulgence and an eclectic mix of both partying and entertainment – not to mention delicious food as well! :) Keep Walking, yo!

My week in a bottle: Ducati Monster 795 World Premier X 4play @ Zouk X Phuture weekend benders

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Ohai there! It's 4 am now and I can't sleep. Insomniac much?

Anyway, here's the weekly snippet of what I've been up to again, condensed in one blogpost!

Ducati Monster 795 World Premier @ Rootz KL

Superbike helmet – in my possession

Anyone up for a ride you'll never forget? :D

Haha! The only time I've ever ridden on a bike was back when I was still in highschool.

Pretty badass, if I do say so myself, albeit the fact that I was only the pillion rider hehe :P :P

Picked up my gurls and off we went

Kelly and I grabbing a photo in my car :D

The Ducati Monster 795 World Premier was pretty big.

Heaps of people everywhere and the food was just amazing! :)

Helen and I inside the VVIP lounge

Oh and I forget to mention that the theme of the party was white; hence most guests were seen in white

No matter how hard I stared at my bursting wardrobe, no articles of white clothing seem to strike me as suitable for this particular event. Heck. I hardly wear anything in white – at all!

Eventually, I decided on something which I found rather stylish, a Lady Gaga inspired short dress and wore it with sheer black stockings, my dark red boots & a white top hat! :D :D

Rebecca and I chilling on the couch

And here's us at the photo wall, pitched someone's helmet just because it looked cool :D

The Ducati Monster 795 still mysteriously covered from the eyes of the public….

has been officially unveiled in Malaysia!

Isn't she a beauty, mate? :D :D

It sure blows your mind the moment you lay eyes on it!

Congratulations on a successful launch!

4PLAY @ ZOUK CLUB KL

So one Thursday on ladies' night, we just decided to hop into the car and dance the night away

Let my hair down and hit the dance podium without a care in the world

Sometimes, a girl really needs to do whatever makes her happy like no one's watching

I sure did that very night! Was busy shuffling to all the amazing tracks that was thumping so hard on the bass

Boombox magnifique!

And I'm glad I wasn't alone :D

Had a few drinks with the rest of the Monash peeps at the table

and supper & shisha after the sesh as usual

Phuture weekend benders!

Pre-drinks: Absinthe, Vodka, Redbull, Tequila, Jack Daniels & wine

Still standing hey! :D

Phuture's jumping tonight!

Okay to be honest, I hardly go to Phuture anymore.

All because it just feeds us R&B and mainstream shit that is repetitively played on radio anyway. I might as well put on Hitz.FM or Fly.FM in my room all alone and dance or party by myself cos it honestly makes no diffie.

Barsonic is the real shizz right there, with heavy bass, incredibly talented DJs/spinmasters producing uplifting music which never fails to putcha in a state of trance and bring turbulence to the crowd!

But since we always go to Barsonic each time we hit Zouk, we kinda decided to something different for a change.

Which was ironically, something we did for a change a long time ago & never look back since – until tonight.

To go to Phuture.

My gurls and I :D

Swedish buddy David and I

Couzzie Kelvin and I

Couzzie Madelene and I

The housies and I :D

Just another weekend of fun and all things trippin'

Have a good week ahead lovelies!
