If Photo Communication classes this semester weren’t interesting enough with all the field trips I’ve mentioned here and here, we had MORE field trips! (ohh how I love my course)
It’s a good exposure, for I doubt I’ll deliberately visit these places for the mere sake of it. Nuh-uh. Nadda. So yeah, thanks Mr. Aaron Goh for bringing us around the streets of Penang and the other places!
This time around, we went to…
Since today was about photojournalism, I took the chance to interview as many people as possible. Boy, it was rather insightful to hear people from all walks of life speak and share their point of view!
Among the peeps I interviewed were:
The Coconut Man
The Silk Fabric Shop Owner
(who seems rather blur at the moment)
and a few others.
Entering shops to check em out
whooops! Joycie, ya checking out the poster lady?
A Chinese scrap-material collector
Even the ‘cool’ ones hang out here
=P
There were foreigners from overseas just as fascinated by the glorious Lil India
They were also capturing lotsa photographs!
Look! A stand-up poster of Father Jesus! =D
And of cours
e, the glory of Indian Food at its best. There were plenty of Indian delicacies, almost at every corner! This time, it was pure Indian food.. not the fusion of Mamak fook.
Such ‘magic gourds’ are hung at each shop to ward off
evil spirits
Mr. Aaron & bestie Joyce were also snapping pictures of the delicacies served at Lil India
LOL.
The guy would probably be thinking –
“Are they starved immigrants from Bosnia who
haven’t seen what food looks like ever before??”
In the whole of Lil India, these were the only two awnings that had rainbow colours in them. Who can justify this? =)
Oh but wait, certain things need no substantiation.
A Chinese temple on the streets of Lil India.
There were some violence involved.
*shut your eyes little children*
(click to enlarge. the expressions and words are NICER)
LOL
Aside from all the fun, it was scorching hot and this added much outrage and annoyance to my bestie Joyce. =) Well, to make things worse,
lost.
LOST.
lost.
LOSTLOSTLOST
Yes, lost in the hustle and bustle of Little India. The routes and pathways seem to repeat itself and we kept going around in circles! We were desperately directionless during the extreme weather but oh well, upon seeing this magnificent Pakistani mosque –
wow.what an adventure u had there babe!

right…
first of all, there are MANY indians who are christian, so no not just lord shiva or something (which, by the way, ‘shiva or something’ is reli rude).. shows how ignorant you are.
secondly, YOU ARE NOT A FOREIGNER! your chinese, look in the mirror, its pathetic when u think your something your not.
please, get a life 🙂
plus, taking pictures of EVERYTHING will not get people to like you, so u should seriously stop sometime soon
okay point taken. Yeah, many indians are christians dats right. Mebbe i didnt think of that when i said it. =)
and by me saying foreigner, i do not mean ‘ang mor kao’. I even purposely put it as ‘foreigner’ and not foreigner, just in case ppl misunderstand. and what i mean by a ‘foreigner’ here is EVERYONE THAT IS FOREIGN TO THIS PARTICULAR PLACE – lil india. This is because many of us chinese or malay hv not actually been there or frequent lil india. So yes, people who are foreign to lil india are the the ‘foreigners’ here ma.
hmm.. about the picture part, okay point taken. mebbe sum ppl doesnt like pictures being taken but sum ppl do, for example things that are picture-worthy. aight, okay i guess it’s everyone’s individual liking then.
=)
whats your problem here anonymous? leave ur name and ur blog address la since u criticize people’s blog till like that.. i really wanna see how ur blog looks like..
I see how and what this is all about: supposely, today being Jun. 15 is Father’s Day and there is NO posting of Male/Father’s Day celebrations! Just poking you, ok….because here I am AGAIN waiting for my flight home to sweet home USA again from Vancouver, Canada.
ps.: I do like your mom’s posting though….LMAO!
thanks for standing up for me gav. but dun get too worked up.. i guess he/she just misinterpreted the meaning, when i actually meant feeling like a stranger and foreign to a place i’ve never been before. *hugs*
lol another men KEV! =D haha. well mebbe it wasnt that exactly a big celebration.
lol mum can be so random sumtimes, yea? hehe
Anonymous,
Ever heard of “Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press” ?!! I can understand this might be a new revelation for you so I will take my own precious time to give you a 1-minute run-down: if you don’t have the right/feelings to express what’s really inside, there is meaning to life or joy….and how about turning it around and what would you respond if I said, “Damn, you are so ugly that the birds went out of their way to poop on your face?” It’s pretty hurtful, ain’t it?
So, let’s practice this: Let’s not critize, condemn or complain about others….if we feel we need to at least, let’s be constructive about it!
Think about it & leave my niece alone,
Miyagi Son II
(from the Karate Kid movie)
Anonymous:omg . what’s ur problem ? dare to comment people blog , n so RUDE ! tot ur english very gud zit ?? show urself la , if u dare to comment people blog, then show urself prove that u realli gud !! prove that u were human ! hate this kind lame people, tok bad bout ppl but is so timid to show himself !! n plz keep away from here ,so luan! so no manners!!
okok. babe! hope ur fine .
well yeah actually, ‘foreigner’ does indeed mean ‘strange and unfamiliar’ for one who has never visited a particular place.
not just for overseas expatriates, and overseas foreigners. For example, A malay gurl may also feel like a ‘foreigner’ when she visits Chinatown. But that doesnt mean she’s not Malay. And it definitely does not mean she’s ang mor kao.
And yes, I AM chinese and never said I wasnt, anonymous. In fact, I am proud of my Chinese roots. =)
thanks guys dear benjieos and rachel for always havinh my back as well. *hugs*
hey dear jess,
i’m also a ‘foreigner’ in lil india. haven’t heard of the name and the place. but i’m no ‘foreigner’ in ur blog 😉
*hugs*
wish to visit the place someday. XD
holla adrienne!
yeah, it was a GREAT place! apart from the heat of cos =) but hey, u should go. theres so many things to buy and the indian food is truly indian! marvelous right from lil india itself!
it was my first time too, indeed my classmates and I really felt so foreign to that place. but after a while, we did manage to find our way around!
thanks babe. *hugs*

Anonymous,
Only 2 words for you…
GO DIE.
Bye.
poor anonymous… me supporting him la… i guess freedom of speech is to be respected as well la… u can write wat you want but jz take into consideration wat sum ppl may interpret it to be… and anonymous, maybe you shouldn’t be too sensitive to all these comments lar… loads of blogs out there that may be against your principles so dont go wasting your energy getting frustrated at them… read, think of love & peace and then jz leave ;P
haha, jz realized im actually not supporting anyone…
and no Malaysian should be a stranger in Malaysia…
Malay, chinese, indian, same je = Malaysian.

YUP YUP guys. peace making karyn is right. let’s not continue this anymore =)
gosh. i didn’t expect all this contoversy to be stirred up all because of this blog post. my conscience is clear and i had no other negative intentions whatsoever. just doing my daily dose of blogging. and when i saw that anonymous comment so ganas n full of malice, i had a shock myself.
guess i shudnt’t post up anyth regarding culture or anyth close to races next time. will be more careful in the future =)
and yea, no malaysian SHOULD BE a stranger in malaysia but what if some of us have yet to explore malaysia wholesomely or isnt as exposed as others?
well, then nth can be done except that everyone should explore malaysia more so that they don’t feel foreign and unfamiliar to any part of malaysia =)
thanks again for everyone who had defended me and stood by my intentions.
w00tw00t for peace making karyn‘s first comment! =D
