Happy Halloween 2010! Of freaky pumpkin carvings, a Wasabi challenge & unlocking the Foursquare Spooky Swarm badge!

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Hey hey I'm still here! :D

Yes eventhough my finals are what, 2 days away, I kinda still need to work my fingers and mind here for a bit and also to have you peeps still spellbound reading my verbal diarhoea all the time :D Nyehehe. I kid!

So yes, already done with Journalism 2. International Studies will be on Tuesday, Media Culture Power next week and finally, Media Text 2 days after that.

AND I'D TASTE THE SCHWEEEEET SMELL OF FREEDOM!

for the time being.

Also, Happy Halloween to all of you freaks out there freakier than me :P

Here is a freaky collection of pumpkin carvings which my mom forwarded to me. Just thought Imma share it with yall!

and my favorite one ever!

OBAMA OBAMAAAAA!

I guess the president extends his wishes too.

Happy Halloween America! :D

SO YES, I SPENT MY HALLOWEEN STUDYING MY BRAIN OFF! T__T THANK YOU VERY MUCH THAT'S FREAKY ENOUGH OF A HALLOWEEN FOR ME. SIGH.

Oh and guess what!

In conjunction with Halloween, Foursquare has some awesome badges to be unlocked.

Check out the ones I've unlocked recently :)

Sigh. With all the hype, I guess this year is my 1st year stemming my streak of dressing up and partying down on All Hallows Eve.

Check out what I was up to during Halloween 2007, 2008 and 2009

Before I go, I will leave you with a video of my housekeeper challenging us to a Wasabi Challenge.

Apparently, she failed her own challenge LOL

Evidently, she's not having a good time :P

But I'm sorry, you're really barking up the wrong tree. When it comes to anything spicy or hot, I rank first from the bottom.

It always takes me 5 seconds MAX before I end up having hot flushes, tears, runny nose and get soaking wet from perspiration :( Even the help of ice-cold water and tissue paper is proven futile. T__T

ANYWAY

It's always funny how people are always so psyched planning their activities after exams even BEFORE exams begin. So anyways, here's a snippet of my to-do list after the academic hurdle of 2010 is over :D

1. Zouk Out 2010 @ Sentosa, Singapore!

Tiesto, David Guetta and Afrojack, Top few DJs in the world will be partying with all of us in this 12 hour rave beach party.

I won't miss it for the world!

2. Dye back my hair red for the.. 9th time :D

3. Meet up with my tattoo artist for another appointment

4. Holliieeee holliieee daaayyyy with the family

Yup yup, that's all I can manage to squeeze in before my attachment at The Star Newspaper begins :)

For my non-Malaysian readers, it's our #1 and leading English daily!

Just received my offer letter via fax yesterday and I just can't wait :D I will be joining The Star's R.AGE (youth) team by the end of next month. Say hello to day job again! I do hope it will be as challenging and interesting – if not better! – as my previous attachments :D Woots

So that's it. A very rare haphazard update – usually only happens when I'm busy to the core :D

Okay back to revisions. Globalization and its Threat to the Nation-States and also The Rise of the Global Economy the topic for today. Bleargh. Dry. I know. And I also *honestly* don't see how it will remotely be of any relevance to my career in the future.

Trick or Treeeeat? :D Toodles!

Let’s take it back old skool with fond memories in Reminisce Cafe @ Mid Valley Megamall!

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

It was one fine day, my fellow foodies and I paid a visit to this relatively new Chinese restaurant in Mid Valley Megamall.

I was intrigued by the decor upon entering and by the looks of it, this place really brings back old childhood memories!

It's dinner time! Noms :)

Talk about old skool chalkboards we had in school huh?

Aptly named Reminisce, this restaurant had the place all done up ala old skool Chinese style. The interior was rustic and filled with antiques as decorations in every nook and cranny of its vicinity. Even the walls were just bare bricks!

Some specialties they've blown up for all to see

I can't wait to taste them all already

But first! Before the delicacies arrive our tables, I'd usually check out the place first. When it comes to an awesome restaurant, you've gotta look at all aspects, never just the food!

The ambience and setting plays a huge role in the atmosphere of a complete dining experience :)

So yes, pretty pretty pictures of my surroundings coming your way!

Framed up old skool Chinese comics from circa 1950s!

I bet popoh and my late kungkung recognizes this

I'm diggin' the way they use old stereo players, cassettes and video tapes as decoration!

Thumbs up

Anyone up for some Tic Tac Toe and Marvel comics?

I used to have all of them when I was little!

Goodness gracious wow! Ya can't get any old skool than this, can you? :D

Nothing really beats an ol' beat up pair of rusty roller skates and a typewriter

Here's something right beside our table.

A rattan birdcage atop a cupboard full of ancient stuff as well.

Highly coincidental :) There used to be a similar birdcage in popoh's old house as well

I was then beckoned back to my seat by the fellow foodies :)

The drinks had arrived!

Among all the glasses of various drinks, mine was ice-cold Green Tea :)

The first meal then arrived, very light – serves as a good appetizer before the heavy stuff comes in!

Here's the toasted soft bun with Bak Kwa, Meat Floss & Egg

A good start! :D

Next up was the Traditional Yam Cake which was simply delish

It was tender and flavourful

Kinda the type that melts in your mouth! :D

The next meal that came was somewhat a little heavier, but one of our personal favorites of the night.

Behold, the Dry Curry Chicken Noodles!

Loved loved loved the curry flavour and the potato chicken!

So much so that we asked for another one. Yup, irresistible!
Tastes just like the ones popoh used to make. Noms

Mei Yee and I having our 2nd plate of the said dish :D

Ken twirling with the noodles just before he chomps it all down!

Before we finished devouring the curry noodles, more delights came our way :)

Here's something not in the menu – a specialty! *winks*

Check out the Mongolian Spare Ribs

Wicked, juicy and bursting with flavour.

The following meal kept me hyper throughout dinner.

Here's something I absolutely love since I was a child, it's the Herbal Drumstick Noodle!

Don't be fooled by the word 'Herbal', trust me it ain't bitter or yucky at all :)

Have a bite? :D

Another plus point of this dish is that when you spoon up the chicken,

the flesh is soft enough to fall off into your spoon by itself!

I apologize to my Muslim readers for the next photo, as it is Non-Halal. Bear with me, okay? :)

To every other pork lover, here's the Stuffed Pork Balls with Satay Sauce

Though I ain't a pork lover, this one really got me going wow :)

Here's a more common one for the not-so-adventurous! :D But yummy all the same

It's the Crispy Chicken Chop with Steamed Rice combo

A pretty decent and quick meal for lunch! :D

And who could ever miss out the -arguably- most popular dish in Malaysia?

If you wish to opt for a Malaysian cuisine, make way for the Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken!

*drumroll*

So gooooooooood! :D In fact, I'm bias to all Nasi Lemak

How can anyone seriously go wrong with cooking this? Unless one is a horrid failure of a chef haha!

Before it was time for desserts, I had to take a walk around to continue where I left of – and to ease my full tummy :D

Looking around at pretty thingamajigs make me smile

This set-up is just behind their cashier counter!

I like that calender thing on the right. It's quite an icon in Chinatown streets :D

Recycable glass bottles as ornament pieces

My, what a genius :D

I'm not too familiar with these but was told that those are some of the popular Chinese candy/snacks!

And is that beer I see in the carton below? *winks* hehe!

See that stand fan? Most Chinese coffee shops back in the days own those! :D

And the portable keyboard with the stick-it notes on the background.

Really cool, if i do say so myself.

Props to the owners and the team who actually made the place look so close to a food outlet from the past!

When the desserts came, I peeked and wondered what it is :)

Why is Ken laughing at me!? haha

Among some of the desserts they have, here's my favorite pick!

It's called the Black Sesame Tang Yuan in Coconut Milk & Sago Pearls

Really delish! But, I honestly wonder why it has a 'black' in its name when it's pure white! :D

hehehehe :D You should order this when you go to Reminisce. It's joy in a bowl

Right, Ken? :D Sweet tooths will love it too.

I can't bring myself not to finish it!

All in all, I had a great dinner with a group of fab friends. Of good food and company, what could be better?

Thanks Reminisce!

Last night in Phuture @ Zouk SG will be the last time I ever party…

Monday, October 25th, 2010

(Bwahahaha hold your horses! I haven't finished my sentence yet! :P )

.… until my exam week ends!!!

I had an amazing weekend, one of the best parties I've ever been to in Zouk SG since the one with my homies during my 21st birthday party at MOIS Penang.

With the boyfie Josh & the buddies Ven & Cheez :)

Loves! Thanks fo all last nite's pix, gurl

Last night at Phuture @ Zouk SG was a blast! As usual, a crazy mad maniacal night with the gang there with 4 bottles of Tequila, Dewars 12, Johnnie Walker Black Label and Belvedere.

Wont be complete if we didn't storm the dance floor with my friend, DJ Ivan's remixes! You rule the dance floor dude, as always! :D

And we holy smokes! Guess what!? :D We've got featured on STOMP!

YAY to Zouk party scene!

And my party people Josh, Ven, Cheez & Ying Zi :D

Nothing major, nuh-uh. But still. Woots!

Anyhoozers – for once – I'll let the pichas do the talking and its time to crash, after only having 2 hours of sleep the night before :D

With my babe Ven.

Hurraaahhh! We all managed to get her tipsy seeing stars by the end of the night!

So the whole lot of us partied till the lights turned on at 4 in the morning. Dang! I guess time really passes when you're having a good time, yeah? ;)

With my man :)  The partner in crime for everything!

Mwahs

To end a night of booze and wild fun, maybe I should cap everything with a pretty decent & non intoxicated picture of me and my all time fave soup I had during the weekend as well.

One of the best and healthiest I've ever tasted… at Marche Movenpick among a few other outlets!

It's none other than Pumpkin Soup!

I swear by it – uh huh! No doubt about that. :D  Apart from Potato and Leek soup, Clam Chowder soup & also Brocolli soup, Pumpin Soup rocks my dining table.

I can totally vouch for that, try it for yourselves! If I ain't wrong, it only costs 7.90bucks and you can spam as much Spring Onions, Cream, Croutons & all the other condiments in it!

Super noms I tell ya :D

I've always been travelling far and wide *dramatic cue* in search of good pumpkin soup!

Okay, studytime :D :D The finals are approaching and after that, ZoukOut fiesta with legends Tiesto and David Guetta in Sentosa, Singapore.  Woots!

Be there, or be square :D It's the rave of 2010 yo

 BBBbjdssfBe there or be square!

Celebrating Oktoberfest 2010 with Guinness, Heineken, Tiger, Paulaner & Kilkenny! German festivals @ Sid’s Pub TTDI

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

The 1st thing that greeted me upon entering the premises of so much merrymaking was 2 lovely "German" ladies in Oktoberfest traditional outfits! For those who didn't know, Oktoberfest is one of the most famous events celebrated in Germany, and the world's largest fair :D :D

Thanks Serge, for sending me all my pics! My camera got busted that night ;(

Somehow, the entire event was themed in blue, luckily I wore a dark turqoise-greenish top

Considered, pass lah! :P   haha

Courtesy of G.A.B, I was given lots and lots of drink vouchers to redeem that night. I walked slightly further in and saw the wide array of beers to choose from.

They were Guinness, Tiger, Heineken, Kilkenny, Paulaner and Strongbow!

Obviously not able to finish all of the vouchers all by tonight, I shared my beer coupons to the other gleeful alcoholics – much to their surprise! :D

Having my ice-cold Kilkenny draft

One of my all-time fave beers!

I didn't know exactly why they were so surprised though?

It's always double the fun to share the love ain't it! Hehe

Sip sip fellas! :D

I loved the whole atmosphere there! Was practically enthused over all the mingling and exciting activities happening all around me.

There was a Yodelling competition, which was hilarious!

And other traditional games played during Oktoberfest in Bavaria, Munich such as Pretzel Toss, Beer Barrel Roll, Beer Stein Dance and the Chicken Dance! :D Haha! I tried the Pretzel Toss… didn't know it'll be so difficult tossing a piece of hardened pastry!

Getting my Oktoberfest spray-on tattoo!

The moment I saw the Tattoo booth I knew affirmatively that I had to get one :D Yep, if you've been reading my blog long enough, you'd know that imma huge fan of body art and tattoos.

Was done in a jiffy! It took approximately under 1 minute, for the dude to spray the ink onto my stenciled skin.

Now, if only real tattoos were this fast, I wouldn't have endured hours and hours grimacing in pain three times!

Me and a good friend of mine, Haze showing off our new tattoos! :D

Erin, we miss youuuuu! Trio hangout soon kays!?

Apart from the tattoo booth, there was also the Caricature booth. Geez, getting caricatures done in malls can cost a bomb! :( Glad there was a booth here, all hand drawn for you for free! :D Yippee!

I had to wait for my turn, which also took a very short time!

Adjusting my hair before he began to sketch me

Hey, have to, right!? :D If not, I'd have an ugly picture drawn of me with permanent ugly hair

The funny thing was, I kept grinning from ear to ear throughout the entire process…..

Quarter way through!

Holding my grin while watching his artistically deft fingers work some magic!

Oh and randomly, he was using the same calligraphy pen I have :D

Still grinning!

However, he only caught sight of me smiling with my mouth closed.

Of ALL the times I grinned like a baboon, he drew me with my mouth shut!

Same onot? I personally don't think it looks like me lor!

I think he's too kind, he drew me after plastic surgery or something hahaaha

AND WHAT'S WITH THE TWO-FINGERED LALA PEACE SIGN OMG SOMEONE KEEEEL ME NOW

i NEVER do that!!! T___T

But after much whining to yall, I still love it all the same hehe! It's blu-tacked to my memory wall now :)

The whole lot of us were enjoying the bustling busy atmosphere, watching professionals juggle beer bottles, bands playing German traditional songs on trombones, clarinets, trumpets and drums. I recognized 'The More We Get Together'!

Celebrations like these really do bring people together

Cheers folks! :D

Remember I shared my coupons with some friends earlier? The saddest part was I didn't have enough coupons left to redeem my Paulaner! *cries* I was quite helpless, staring at the Paulaner draft being poured again and again to many fellow Paulaner fans… and guess what!?

Someone was kind enough to offer some love too! What comes around, goes around, eh? :D

ALL IN THE SPIRIT OF OKTOBERFEST

& THE LOVE FOR BEER!

Yummyy German Würstl! (Sausages)

Thanks G.A.B for an amayyyyzeeeeng celebration at Sid's Pub :D *thumbs up*

Enjoyed myself thoroughly!

And yeah yeah yeah, I know I've turned slightly crimson red already pfftt.
